1  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: Mailbox problems with AM installed on: 2012 December 22, 19:18:37
I was given to undestand that the 'Omniplant' gift boxes were in some way related to having too many large stacks of collectibles (and some suggestion that it is specifically triggered by uncut gems and/or unsmelted ores) in your Sim's inventory. I have only got the base game and Ambitions, patched with the 1.42 patch, but the 'Omniplants' only started to appear in my mailbox after a ridiculous spate of obsessive collecting on my part. I do not have any mods or CC in my game.

Add any further traits as you see fit, although the inclusion of any of the following will move the Sim further away from reality than most:
You know, normally, it helps to list additional traits that fit, rather than just the misfit traits.
Oh, alright then. Initial post adjusted.

Sorry, couldn't find Pompous Moralising.
If you can think of what mechanical effect it should have, I will make it. Tongue
I have to say the other two posters have pretty much captured my expectations. I would imagine that the Grumpy, Hot-Headed, Mean, and Neurotic would react with anger, at the very least, if not violence. Meanwhile, the Cowardly, Easily Impressed, and Insane would be awed by my verbose virtuousness. Everyone else would lapse into a bored coma without delay.

Edited to remedy the complete ballsup I made of the quotes....

For you delectation or voodoo-style hatred, as you prefer, one Preacher.

Boringly traited with:

Commitment Issues
Lucky
Good
Friendly
Bookworm

Sorry, couldn't find Pompous Moralising.

Add any further traits as you see fit, although (adjusted for JMP's convenience) the five listed below would be most likely to reflect my real-self:
Charismatic
Couch Potato
Good Sense of Humour
Loner
Natural Cook

and the inclusion of any of the following will move the Sim further away from reality than most:
Ambitious
Angler
Family Oriented
Heavy Sleeper
Neat
Party Animal
Workaholic

However, if 30% of the users are the opposite of how they appear to be online then 70% of them are exactly what they seem to be. That means that the majority of us here at MATY are just as likely to make people cry in real life as we are here.

It also means that 7 out of 10 of the sheep really are illiterate, retarded 12s in real life, whilst the remaining 3 are educated, intelligent, mature adults who choose to act as though they are brattish, egotistical children. If anything I hate the latter more than the former.

Psst. Hook. We know who you are, your lecherness. You don't need to sign your posts. Ta ta now.

I'm reasonably sure that the Hookster is aware that signing his posts is not obligatory. I am, furthermore, pretty much certain that he chooses to sign his posts. I am also confident that Hook is grown up enough for you to be explicit with your comments. If you want to say: "Hook, stop signing your posts!" then simply say it. This coy, sly obfuscation is beneath you and, might I add, disrespectful given the years of e-lechery that have been so selflessly provided by the esteemed former Senator.

Hooray! This noob brings us gay pronreaux! I vote we keep this one.

Aforementioned noob does appear to have some authority on gay pr0n, which is a highly marketable skill of course.. It would behoove us to accept him into the fold.

Zucabr is not actually a n00b.

Looks like we already kept him.

So i've been called a fuckwit because i showed a bit of empathy to either side? Wow, well thats polite for sure. I'd say not calling someone a name is more polite than if you spell the sentence wrong. That is all i was saying.

No, you have been called a fuckwit both because I like the term and to provide an example of the fact that the normal rules of politeness are more than a little warped here. The fact is that the use of pejorative terminology towards your fellow posters is not regarded as rude at MATY. Indeed, one might almost conclude that vituperative comments and ad hominem attacks are, if anything, seen as de rigeur. Should you care to investigate the forum as a whole you would soon see that derogatory terminology, insinuation, and even spectacularly insulting lies are not reserved solely for the neophyte posters but are bandied about gleefully amongst even the most venerable MATYzens.

Which being said, of course, MATY regulars do, indeed, tend to give new arrivals a particularly hard time. This serves several purposes. Firstly, it allows us to winnow the recent intake. Those who survive the onslaught with their good grace intact, those who adjust their posting habits in light of the relentless sporking, or those who fight their corner with humour and zeal, they are the wheat from the apocalyptic harvest and they are, quite rightly, retained and valued. Those who display butthurt, meanwhile, or who fail to take on board the viciously-delivered lesson, are considered to be the chaff and are left to blow away in the sour wind of failure. Secondly, it discourages at least some contributors from continuing to repeat their mistakes, whether that be by means of taking the time to couch their messages in terminology and structure that is less likely to attract the opprobrium of the MATY regulars or, alternatively, by simply not posting so frequently, if at all. Thirdly, and this, perhaps, is the most important purpose of all, it affords us a great deal of entertainment, both from the inept flailings of those who take it all to heart and from the simple enjoyment to be garnered from witnessing an exquisitely barbed dart being delivered with precision and style.

Its ironic that this site is so bothered about grammar, yet doesn't care in the slightest about common politeness to people you don't know.  You'd think priorities would be different.

Since this a text-based environment, in which one's interactions, abilities, and associations occur solely in the written form, the use of correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation forms the basis of politeness, you fuckwit.
9  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Important notice from the GRAMMAR POLICE. Plz read. This means you. on: 2009 May 29, 11:30:10
Grammar and spelled, moron.

"Spelt" is a correct and common British form of the past, and past participle, of "Spell". Since the poster is fairly obviously (c.f. "arsehole") a Briton, or colonial offshoot, I feel we have to let them have this.

Moi? Famous? Aw, shucks... I haven't even made uploaded anything in ages. My interest in Sims 2 practically went down the toilet after Pests Pets. I never even got around to reducing my Laverwinkle skin file-size after learning how to years ago.  Embarrassed

Not nearly as famous as you deserve. Your alien skins are one of only three pieces of cc I have ever been prepared to use.

Think of Pes's pesonality. Think of the sorts of physical feats and battles that are part of his relationship with Mrs. Pes. Continue that thought on to realize what level sex would be at. When you are done throwing up, you must admit that a fetus is unlikely to survive that sort of activity.

Never mind that, the man pees drano. Goodness only knows what sort of mutant killer sperm spring from his loins.

* tngrspacecadet hands Marhis some tea.

I think it is really funny that the first ever hack made the sims lose bladder control (OK, I know that was just a test), and the second one took the censor blur off. This is so indicative of where true priorities lie.

The most important thing about the second (and/or third, depending on how you look at it) is that it resulted in twelven butthurt, foot-stamping and fight. This is, therefore, a MATY win.

This has already been denied vociferously both here and there. There is no reason to suspect that just because someone is a fat, obstreperous jerk that they must also be a stupid, evil bastard, chinwear not withstanding.

No. Demon child is definitely the genetic daughter of Ms. Schmoe. She has the same hair color, down to the subtle blue streaks. She also is extremely ugly.

Holy shit! Ms. Schmoe appears to have been raped by Diesel 10 from Thomas the Tank Engine!

And on another note, how the hell do you get your Sim to bike? I bought one and placed it in all kinds of different areas around the lot. Nothing's working, when I click it it says there's no interactions available. What am I doing wrong?

Just a guess - in TS2, sims needed to gain skills in order to do things.  Do they need to skillinate on anything to learn how to ride the bike?

Or, alternatively, it could be one of those actions you initiate through clicking on a Sim, like going for a hike in TS2.
19  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: THE HORROR: The REAL TS3 Scoop As It Unfolds on: 2009 May 19, 11:50:20
But this is the internets, this is how it works. It's hardly like people were all 'zomg n00b gtfo!!11!', a little light hearted ribbing isn't really worth the effor of climbing up on a soapbox, surely?

You forget that, as usual, I start on the moral high ground and that, therefore, it is merely a gravity-assisted step down onto my soapbox. Hardly any effort is required.

Anyway, I was merely amused to see people who have not, apparently, arred the game, or played it, poking at someone who has done both of those things and who has taken the trouble to contribute their impressions in a fairly well-written post.
20  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: THE HORROR: The REAL TS3 Scoop As It Unfolds on: 2009 May 19, 11:40:02
Perhaps Pes isn't the best example there FB.

I deliberately chose Pes because his opinion on games is so widely respected around here. I am not stating that ttech is, necessarily, a maestro on the same order as the FOJ, I am merely trying to illustrate the point that, in the absence of any obvious idiocy in a post, you have no way of knowing anything about someone's abilities or capabilities from their first post in a forum.
21  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: THE HORROR: The REAL TS3 Scoop As It Unfolds on: 2009 May 19, 11:31:48
Alright, so I joined to express my opinion about this game. The people making it sound horrible are over exaggerating, IMO.
Look ma! Is sheeple, can I pets it??
Don't you let that dirty thing follow you home Tasha...you're not keeping it.
But I could keep it in the yard and train it up real good!

Actually, with this sort of kneejerk, pointless reaction, you guys are acting more like sheep than ttech is. Whoever they are is obviously un-sheeplike enough to have arred the game, for one thing. Additionally, they have taken their time to post a capitalised, grammatical, correctly spelt post outlining a few points of interest, to which they have attached screen shots. They didn't say the game was unequivocally great, nor did they say that it was irredeemably bad; they simply noted their experience with the game so far and added their opinion that it was not so black as some would paint it.

As for the rubbish about it being their first post and, therefore, not to be trusted, the insinuation is childish and invalid. Imagine that there is another forum, one which Pes, say, is not yet a member of but that you are. Imagine there is an ongoing discussion to which Pes, newly joined, contibutes his first post. Do you automatically dismiss his observations as incorrect and untrustable because he is a 'noob'? If so, then you are an idiot. Judge a post on its content not just on the poster's join date.

People are allowed to have differing opinions, you know, especially when they are prepared to present them in a cogent and considered manner. Sometimes, some of you behave like the coke-fiends of my acquaintance who treat anyone who doesn't want to partake of their drug of choice as though they are engaging in some sort of moral attack when, in fact, they are merely expressing a personal choice.

Good luck with the move, TwoJeffs. A new place is always so exictingly full of possibilities and potential (and, shortly, kittens, I suppose, if they aren't elfnapped first).

I do so look forward to the bacchanalia housewarming party and hope an invitation is in the post.

I'll also help frisk Elfie as she leaves the premises.  Cool
24  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Wildly improbable - two abductions...? on: 2006 September 24, 15:46:34
I think dizzy's saying that clumps in random sequences are normal, and RNGs that have very few of them are actually less random (though for some applications, that may be what you want.)

Truly random sequences will have non-random appearing clumps sometimes.  For example, flipping a coin 6 times and getting the same result each time seems improbable and non-random, but it's not that improbable, nor necessarily non-random.  It will happen now and then with a good RNG.  A good random number generator will produce these sorts of clumps at the frequency at which you'd expect them to occur.  Since humans are very good at spotting patterns, and very stubborn about accepting the randomness or non-pattern-ness of something, a truly random sequence of numbers usually has a lot of apparent clumpiness.

My clump was particularly improbable though, so that's why I asked the question.  On the other hand, there are an arbitrary number of improbable combinations of events that haven't happened in my game, so maybe I just got lucky.
Isn't this in danger of becoming a syllogism? Yes, random generation may provide messy clumps and streaks.  This does not mean that the appearance or absence of such clumps is a de facto qualitative statement as to the effectiveness of the generator. The fact is that 'random' is just that and any attempt to define tendencies is (or should be) self-defeating since any tendency towards particular results suggests the lack of randomness.
25  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Pillow Fight Obsession on: 2006 September 22, 11:52:33
Is there a hack somewhere that stomps the want to pillow fight? I don't see how it could possibly be replaced by a stupider want.
There is definitely a more stupid want. That is when my Sim pulls out their mobile phone to fulfill the "Call X to Chat" want and has it replaced by the "Buy a Mobile Phone" want because their mobile is no longer in their inventory. I guess that's my fault for sending a single Sim to buy mobiles for the whole household. However, just because I'm stupid doesn't mean my Sims' behaviour isn't.
