TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: sims not aging

I used to have one Sim on a lot who wouldn't age. Well, he'd age during play, but as soon as I exited the lot and went back, he was reset to the beginning of the Adult stage. Very odd, considering that in all aspects, he was an Elder.
I finally got so tired of his being stuck in early Adulthood, yet slouching around and talking in that irritating voice, that I used Merola's painting to suck his life away. Death and the Hula Girls came, and left behind a gold-trimmed urn, despite the Sim being nowhere near the top of his career.
He was too corrupt. He needed killin'.

I've been fighting depression and mania most of my life, and didn't even know about bipolar disorder until I was diagnosed with it in late 1989. I've since become "rapid cycling," which means my moods swing more often, anywhere from several times per hour (worst) or several times per month. I no longer take medication. Mainly because it never worked, or when it did, it made me feel "flat," and then stopped working after a few months. You might say I gave up...or you could say I learned to live within my limitations. I'm still here. I've tried a couple of times not to be here...but both of those times were while I was on medication what was supposed to prevent such desperation. I finally caught on! I think anyone who benefits from antidepressants and/or mood stabilizers should take them. But if you've taken every type there is like I have, and have never had real relief, it's time to reconsider, and possibly adjust your life to accomodate your unique needs. If you ignore it, it won't go away. However, I think that sometimes fighting it is the worst thing you can do. (Note that I'm in an extremely LUCKY situation: I don't have to support myself financially, as I'm married to a most exceptional man. I feel great sympathy for anyone who lives with depression or bipolar disorder who must fend for themselves. I don't know how they manage to do it...)

I sometimes get the urge to get my own bunker in the mountains somewhere mountainous and just ignore the human race at will.
That's a fantasy of mine, too...but it would have to have Internet access. Re: Asperger's obsessions, airplanes are not my son's only interest. He's also into athro-art, and draws HUGE fat, furry naked women. He's very good ~ he does commisions and earns enough to pay his share of our DSL, with enough left over to keep his aged computer in top condition (computers: another obsession of his, which works out well for me! I have my own personal techie ). Too bad there are no patrons of anthro-art around here, someone who could take him under their wing so to speak and promote his talents and make us all filthy rich. *sigh*

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: "Instant Meal" bug?

I don't know if this is related to the "Instant Meal" bug or not, but it's certainly related to refrigerators. Last night, I had a fridge go bad for no reason. No Sims of any kind could do anything with it. I'd tell them to go cook something, or get a snack, but the icon would generate from them and just fade out on its way up to the queue. Clicked stove and microwave to tell them to eat, and the same thing happened as soon as they headed for the refrigerator. I tried buying a new fridge, but that didn't help. FINALLY, I moved the damned thing over one space ~ just swapped it with a counter, and suddenly everything was fine. Now...I've had this happen when there's a baby in the house, and a bottle is left in front of the fridge. Why Sims can't just step over a bottle, I don't know. But there is no baby in this house (two Adults, two Elders, and a Child), so no bottles. No puddles on the floor. No dropped newspapers or cups. Nuthin'. Weird.

Sounds feasible - or get them to make spaghetti using the food processor!
Except that the only option they have is "Instant Meal." (Reminds me of my phone company's recorded message asking if I'm calling from the number with the problem when I'm reporting a NON-WORKING phone line. )

I have a theory. Well, not a theory, per se, but I noticed a few things on the two occasions that the "Instant Meal Only" bug popped up in one of my houses (none of which have diagonal doors, btw).
In a house with four adult Sims, only one got the bug. He had a very high Neatness score, 8 or 9. He was standing within the kitchen area (it's an open floorplan) when I gave him the order to Serve Dinner.
The kitchen counters are very crowded with appliances, with only two open countertops. This happened at night, so meals had been prepared since the maid had been there.
The Sim who eventually served hamburgers for dinner has a low Neatness score.
So, what I think is happening is, when this "bug" pops up it's with very Neat Sims who refuse to prepare food on a dirty countertop, when all unoccupied counters are dirty ~ not visually dirty, but "used," and thus "cleanable." When it happens again, I'll check the condition of the countertops and the Neatness rating of the Sim who's stuck with Ensure for dinner. If I remember to. I probably won't.
In the meantime, those who encounter (ha ha) the bug may want to try having the limited Sim clean the counters, and see if that brings back the rest of the menu.

<-- Raises hand.
I'm very familiar with SimPE when it comes to object retexturing, and then modifying the related files, but I don't even know what part of the program to use to delete memories; I never edit my Sims except in-game, with Merola's objects. I have fewer jagged line bubbles than before installing JMP's fixes, but they still pop up now and then, and I'm concerned that those are spreading.

Meaning if your parent/relative/friend is PRESENT for the wedding, the college enrollment, the graduation (not the party!)... Wait! There's a graduation ceremony? Or do you mean the video at the end of the graduation party, where they gather for a photo and then throw their mortarboards in the air? If there's an actual presentation of diploma, how do I get to it? If there isn't...go ahead and make fun of me, I deserve it.

Thank you all for talking about Asperger's Syndrome. My son, now 25, was given a diagnosis of ADHD at age 4, then "non-specific schizophreniform disorder" at age 13. This was all before AS had been recognized. He meets all the criteria for AS; his current obsession is with airplanes, and he spends his days playing with a flight simulator. Since you can't force a legal adult into evaluation and treatment without a court order, he will probably remain obsessed with one thing or another (and thus unemployable) forever. He goes to job interviews and talks about...airplanes. I'm a rapid-cycling bipolar for whom all types of medication have proved useless. Fun, no? Sleep may be for wusses, but I'd love to have one good night of it nonetheless.

Thank you, ZZ. Obviously, I don't get around here much, but I seem have to developed a hack-addiction (dreams of ripping JMP's lips off...in a respectful way, of course), and am now hooked on the IOTD forum, as well. And I was so good before I came here.

I'm not quite an Elder yet (46). I'm in Maxis' apparent "twilight generation," which doesn't exist in the game. My kids are grown, but I don't qualify for retirement benefits yet.
I still find the Maxis concept of "Elder" insulting, though. I don't ever want to spend 45 minutes just taking a pee!

I have the bug only in my testing neighborhood, where Sims have visited a downtown lot with coffee bar many, many times. In other neighborhoods, where they spend more time at home, the bug never appeared. So, whether you have the bug or not seems related to the number of times you've asked the game to generate baristas by visiting a lot with a coffee bar. Note that my problem was missing baristas, not too many baristas. The same fix seems to alleviate both problems, though. Barista Fiber!

This seems to work. I installed it, then played a house with two Elders in it for several hours. They broke the toilet only once, not the usual three or four times. I don't recall their shower breaking at all, and they're usually good for at least one such disaster every other Sim-day.
Did I mention I'm not too fond of Elders? Most of mine seem to suffer from constant constipation. I think what we need is a prune-hack.

I could have sworn I wrote this already, but maybe it was just prescient deja vu...
The hack worked. Those coffee bars that were missing baristas (some neighborhoods had them, some didn't) now have them back. And the same baristas are there when I return to a lot.
My lips are yours.

I just developed this problem ~ blank work-related icons (or those scratching lines replacing them in thought balloons), no work clothes, pregnant Sims in their own jammies, etc. ~ so I'm thrilled to find the answer right here. Thanks!!
