TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: CONFESS! How many of you pay for downloads?

On the topic of such oxymorons as 'donation gift,' I offer this:
I subscribe to Blockbuster Online. For roughly $15/mo., I get all the movies I want, three at a time, restricted only by the speed of the US Postal Service (for me, that means at least 10 movies a month, and I don't have to go anywhere, so good deal). In addition, I get 2 "free rental" coupons each month, good for DVD's or games at my local Blockbuster store.
Recently, I received an email from Blockbuster, urging me to "upgrade" my subscription. For roughly $17 per month ~ "only $2 more!" ~ I could get four "free rentals" (DVD's only), instead of just 2.
Now...if I have to pay $2 more per month to receive 2 more "free rentals," doesn't each of those "free rentals" actually cost me a dollar? (I don't rent games anyway.)
I wonder if anyone's fallen for it??

Why start a site if you have to rely on others generosity to maintain it?
Why buy a game if you have to rely on creators' generosity... Oh, forget it. I love free stuff, but I also respect my fellow creators enough to occasionally chip in a little on costs...or for them to buy themselves a drink or a candy bar, or whatever, after they've slaved for several hours over a hot keyboard. I just DO NOT understand this pride that some people have about never having paid for anything. You PAID Electronic Arts ~ one of the greediest corporations in the US ~ for the game. And you belittle CC creators for asking you to pay a dollar or two for the privilege of downloading their work?!? I just don't get it.

If a person wove a piece of fabric and gave it to me wouldn't it be my choice if I made it into something beautiful and sold that something? Your choice, yes. But only a fool of a weaver would give you a second piece of fabric.

Thank you, Blue! Ooooooooooh, I feel so dirty. I didn't preorder, but I bought NL the first day out. My trailer-trash guy needs an appropriate set of wheels. So trashed recolor, here I come! I almost panicked when I read the requirements for OFB. Then I realized...I have a 2.66GHz with a speedo.

I'm wondering: where can I check max number of sims programmed for my home lots....
I don't know that you can. As far as I know (which is far less than some others here), the limit is set during installation according to your processor's capabilities. I have a line in my userStartup.cheat file setting the limit at 8, but the game obviously ignores it. intProp maxNumOfVisitingSims 8I could probably delete that. [edit] Wait! DOH! Never mind. That sets the limit on the number of Sims that can be invited to a party or gathering. It has nothing to do with the number of visitors that show up on their own.

Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: Programmable Sleep Clock v3.3 (01/24/06)

Why do sims try to sleep in coffins? Answer: Because coffins are the best sleeping item for energy in the game, at 40 NRG/hr. Even for non-vampires. I have several mortal Sims who sleep in very pretty coffins (textures I made myself), so I'll be testing this with both vampires and mortals, in coffins. Did I mention they sleep in coffins? "Coffin" mode now deprecated. Vampires now always assume coffin mode (and will not use non-coffins).
This is what I've been impatiently waiting for, since my biggest problem in the game is keeping vampires in their coffins until sundown. No problem getting them to go to bed, they just won't stay there half the time. So this will get a vampire-workout from me. I can also let you know if/how this works with a couple of non-FFS hacks: ElderSleepNight.package (none of my Vampires are Elders) simlogicalReserveBeds_patch2.package (would like to keep as backup for beds without SleepClock control) (Both by Inge, so they're fairly awesome!)BTW, I did print out the list of bed classes just now. Took all of 10 seconds.

Sara, maybe you need to ask the daycare provider which of the kids there has LICE.
Got lice? Don't tell the parents, who may tell the health department and have your daycare shut down. Just shave all the kids' hair off.
OK, so I'm a cynic.

...I did find that she used to be in love with someone who used to live there three generations ago.
That's pretty much how one of my married Sims got caught "cheating" on his Wife. He and the missus were in the bathroom, chatting away, when all of a sudden, in walks the old Townie girlfriend he hasn't even spoken to in Sim- months, without an invite or so much as a hello! She grabs the unwitting Husband, and plants a hot, wet one on him. Right in front of the Wife. Of course, Wife smacks the living crap out of him; he smacks her back; they're both in Deep Red. If I were the Wife, I'd smack crap out of the OLD GIRLFRIEND. I'm not the wife, so I'm just gonna kill her.

Yeah, best thing about Vacation, IMO, was Sims' being able to bring home those kitzchy prizes. They were ugly, but it was cool...it was STUFF! And the souvenir cabinets were rather nice, especially the tacky peacock style. Everybody needs a wooden acorn and eight scummy boots on a peacock cabinet in their living room. Whelp, there went my other lips.

I didn't resurrect this thread, but I'm going to reply to the original subject:
You know you're an Internet geek when...
...you ask for (and receive) your own phone line for Mother's Day (1999), because you're on dialup and when people call they knock you offline and you can't stand that!
...you ask for (and receive) DSL for your birthday quite a few years later.
...you ask for (and receive) a new graphics card for your 27th wedding anniversary, and a new hard drive for the following Christmas.
I met my husband before there was an Internet. Or personal computers, for that matter. Somehow...we've survived anyway.

IRONY: You prepare a scathing letter of resignation, and upon placing it in your boss' box at work, find a pink slip in your own.
SARCASM: Your reply to your boss says, "Thank you. I love you, too."
---
I don't pay my subscription fee. I simply PM-ed my PayPal username and password to Pescado to do with as he wishes.
[edit] For non-Americans, I should point out that a pink slip is a notice of being fired or laid off (sacked).

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Feed the baby somewhere else!

A realistic hack (or patch by Maxis) would have Sims get the bottle from the fridge, then take the baby to the nearest chair, sit down, and THEN feed the baby. Sims carry plates, and books and newspapers to chairs and sit down. Why not babies? Hell, they even do the crossword sitting down, with no table. I doubt that whomever wrote that bit of programming ever actually fed a baby. I never fed my kids standing up when they were babies. Even the bottle-fed one.
