126  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Sim won't stop skipping on: 2008 December 18, 20:59:15
Roberte, this forum is for reading as well as asking.  Jelenedra gave a perfectly good explanation for your question.

If your sim missing other destination options, you either have a borked sim, or a hack conflict.  Since you only want the sim for machinima, just clone him.  Note however, that unresolved hack conflicts may cause other problems for you, if you need these sims for an extended series.
127  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: TS2 Store Asian Fusion Collection - do not share files using MATY server spa on: 2008 December 18, 20:46:39
Well, I did check over the packages to see if I'd fat-thumbed anything.  There's nothing that I can spot, so maybe you could have a look at it, too?  I just set the same flags that we did for the spooky and castle sets, and then followed Lord Darcy's instructions for the set_version bit.

I also started to compare the door against others we got from the Store, just to see if I could spot an inconsistency, but so far, I've come up empty.  If more people report on this issue, maybe we can persuade Havelock to take a look at it.  So far, I haven't figured out why it's only borked for you.  What I see in my BV game is indistinguishable from the M&G installation. Undecided

How strange!  You have all EPs up to BV?  And the door looks the same even if you place just one, yes?  I'll look at the packages again, and check my work.

Is anyone else seeing this problem, and if you are, could you tell us what combination of EPs you have?

What time is it?  You're not trying to throw a party at 3am, are you?
130  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Transferring lot files between neighborhoods on: 2008 December 16, 21:30:27
Have a look at this post by Mootilda.  It outlines a way to empty a 'hood of residents, but keep all of the lots furnished and placed where they are.  Once you've done this, you should be able to move the entire Neighborhoods folder to a new installation, or keep it where it is and simply re-populate.

I remember that discussion your referenced, and if I remember correctly creating two accounts with two different hoods was ok. It was having the same hood--but with different neighborhood file numbers--on the same account that was dangerous.

You remember correctly, the OP was trying to clone a neighbourhood just by renaming all the relevant files.  He wanted to play them on the same account.
131  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Deleting Characters Properly on: 2008 December 16, 21:17:55
Though I've compiled the dizzy tools, I've never had to use them.  I compiled them sort of on principle because -- uhh, well they're mac tools.  I don't come across mac tools too often. Cheesy  I don't mind mucking around my own 'hoods, but I think it would be best if Mootilda fixed your 'hood for you, Selesen.  She's More Awesome than I.

As for your borked birth, the most obvious issue would probably be the corrupted state of your neighbourhood, if you are confident that you cleaned out your downloads.  You should play with testingcheats enabled as a general practice, so that you can be alerted to CC that's causing errors.  If you're still getting them in your fixed 'hood, you'll know that you still have some bad apples in the dl folder.
132  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Harvesting Plants. on: 2008 December 16, 20:54:37
You don't sound like a pedant, which is difficult around here, but you do sound like a noob.  This effect is well-known and Macro' already takes advantage of this very thing.  In fact, even if your farmer is a complete idiot, Macro' will patiently take him in hand, and force him to water a sickly plant all the way to mouth-watering condition, before permitting him to harvest.

Have a stroll on over to the War Room.  While it is nowhere near comprehensive, it captures the gist of what MATYzens assume you know already.
133  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Deleting Characters Properly on: 2008 December 16, 00:02:08
If I understood that correctly, in Mac you should first compile the sources (dz-utils-src...) and then run them in terminal, since Mac can't handle .exe binaries. I don't remember a lot of C and C++, but those source files seem to include libraries and functions regularly available and functional under unix, therefore it should compile with no issue.
Problem is, you have to know how to compile; I could give it a try, but it's a lot of time I didn't compile something, and I also never was a real programmer since the beginning; so please don't hold your breath in the meantime.

I can handle the compiling, and the last part about re-packing and compressing.  I started to sweat at the instructions to edit bits in hex. Cheesy

What I really want is to keep all the lots in this hood, decorated and placed as they are, that's all I care about. So if I were to make a new hood, with the same terrain, and then copy the Lots folder from the old hood to the new hood (and rename all the files with the right number, which I can do fairly easily)... would that do what I want it to? Or would it be a really bad idea?

I don't think the houses will show up properly in a new 'hood with that method.  The NXXX_Neighborhood.package has to be updated for all those lots.  You can at least keep the lots furnished after you move out the families this way:

1.  In your userstartup.cheat file, add this line:
boolprop ShowLotPackageFilename true

2.  For the family you about to evict, note the lot catalog number and name of their house.  Move the sims out as instructed.
3.  Load the empty shell of a house, save and exit to the neighbourhood.
4.  Repeat for as many houses as you wish to save.

5.  Quit the game, and now copy over the backup files for just those lots on your list above.
6.  Launch the game.
7.  Enter evicted house again, see it in its formerly furnished glory.  Save and exit.
8.  In 'hood view, package lots as usual.

I'm wondering about EA's intentions for the store, too.  I don't think they'd want to cannibalise EP sales for TS3, but maybe they want to keep milking money out of TS2 now that they're done with EPs?  Maybe it's just a hedge against sluggish adoption of TS3?

I agree the percentage of broken objects is astounding.  The Store makes TSR look good.
135  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: NEWS: WE CAN HAZ LEGAL THREATS? on: 2008 December 15, 20:39:57
And in any case, all this illegality may exist in USerica, but the internets are not just USerican anymore.  What links a Malaysian site has on it, may turn out not to be in this lolyer's area of expertise.

Out of curiosity, do you happen to know what stance Canada takes on intellectual property?
136  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: The One Shiny: Autonomy Control on: 2008 December 15, 20:33:17
I think antivacation-something-or-other is better.  Sims will still dance solo or together if radios are on, but they won't hula or slap dance back at home unless you start one sim doing it.
137  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Deleting Characters Properly on: 2008 December 15, 20:24:17
Umm... no, at least not from me.  I can barely get the gist of what he means, and I like the command line! Cheesy  If you're allergic, I'm afraid there are no other options without SimPE.  I think you're going to have to abandon that 'hood, or just play on borrowed time.
138  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: NEWS: WE CAN HAZ LEGAL THREATS? on: 2008 December 15, 20:08:51
Sounds like you'll have to get your links to EA Store stuff through #grah. Or people need to start sharing links in a way that searches cannot detect it. Y'know. Lots of spaces or missing the .com or something.

There are still some working links in there.  Vineeta wasn't very thorough. Wink  It's impossible to tell which links were listed or why, so I'm not sure what measures would be useful, if any.

Doesn't the whole issue with Napster set a precedence in the U.S. that links to copywritten material are illegal?

It's illegal if you, Mootilda, were to put up a link to store stuff for anyone to take, and of course, it would be illegal for me to take it from you.  It would also be illegal if Pes invited a bunch of people to put up links to content he would host.

However, if you were to put up a link to stuff and ask me to fix it, that would not be illegal.  If I put up a link to the stuff I fixed for you to take back, that's also not illegal.  If we do all this on JMP's forum, but host the files somewhere else, there's nothing illegal about it.
139  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: NEWS: WE CAN HAZ LEGAL THREATS? on: 2008 December 15, 03:23:40
Yeah, that's pretty much all I got. All they gave me was a bunch of Mediafryer URLs, which falls entirely outside of my control, and in any event, are completely non-readable, given that mediafryer does not use human-parseable URLs and the document supplied is not readable by the computer, so none of those URLs can actually be used. So I have done the only thing I can: Suggested nicely that if anyone happens to ACTUALLY control them, that they might want to re-move them.

But how would any of us know if we control those URLs?  EA did not address any letters or faxes to us, and I can't see how we are to decipher any of our handles from those URLs, such as they are.

141  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Bon Voyage Bugs Found After AL Installation on: 2008 December 13, 20:22:35
And they still gain STR points from it!  I rilly think if you fail at something, there oughta be consequences... Tongue
142  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: TS2 Store Asian Fusion Collection on: 2008 December 13, 20:14:54
I looked in my BV game and didn't see what you meant, so I checked both versions of the door in M&G.  They all look the same to me from both sides. Undecided

Could you post a pic?
143  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: SimPE, cloning dead sims. Halp. on: 2008 December 12, 19:26:57
He means you won't be able to clone the ghosts and package them.  Instead, you should try to save your original, corrupted neighbourhood, by fixing whatever was trashed.

Basically in order to accomplish what you've proposed, you'll need to extract each sim with no memories, history or relationships -- just personality and genetics.  Then you want to put them in a new 'hood and use SimPE to re-build the family tree, and re-create every memory, and relationship they had with one another.  This isn't only time-consuming, it's quite likely that you'll make a mistake along the way, because it will be your first time doing it. Then your new 'hood will be corrupt before you've even started to play it again.
Either give up on your family or follow the FOJ's advice instead.
144  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Homework, The One Desk, and kids of all ages on: 2008 December 12, 19:06:51
In families with more than 2 school age children, I delete the One Desk entirely.  4 children all trying to do their homework on the floor around the One Desk inevitably ends up with one or more of them trapped and frozen by macro-homework.  I follow saramk's example, and let them do it in the middle of the road.  In knee-deep snow.  And they like it. Grin
145  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: TS2 Store Asian Fusion Collection on: 2008 December 11, 22:03:41
Three cheers for Lord Darcy! Cheesy  Following her intrepid lead, I was able to revert all of the TSStore objects I had tucked away.

The Asian Fusion set includes the seating made recolourable by knightguy.  For the sake of completeness, I also included Lord Darcy's fixed objects with extra deco slots; these are unchanged, except for the TV.  The TV has fixed animations, but doesn't require FT/AL.

The Castle set now includes the double bed and chest.  I also made a bite-sized file of just the bed and chest, if you already picked up my upload earlier.

The Spooky set has a complete set of windows and doors now, two columns, a fence lamp, the larger gargoyle, 2 jack o' lanterns and a funky cactus.

Lastly, the Cubic and Deco dining chairs.  The rest of those sets had already been made compatible with earlier EPs.

Reminder: I tested these with all EPs up to BV.  Many objects are probably compatible with earlier EPs, but some may cause crashes (particularly likely if your latest EP is pre-Pets).

ETA: Corrected the Spooky set to include single and two-story columns.
146  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Deleting Characters Properly on: 2008 December 11, 20:33:48
However, I have this re-occurring problem with corrupt files in my downloads that make my game crash when loading the neighborhood. When it crashes, character files are deleted. (If anyone has any advice about this problem, I would love to hear it.)

Nope.  You did the only thing which can be done, you kept backups.  I'd suggest maybe keeping some in another place though, like once a week rip it to CD or something.

Also, it's a good idea to hunt down bad downloads promptly -- definitely before adding anything more.  As you discovered, once you have two or more corrupt files, binary search is no longer as efficient.  TS3 could very well be released before you find the corrupt files.
147  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: TS2 Store Asian Fusion Collection on: 2008 December 10, 20:03:00
Aha!  I did see that, but having thoroughly frustrated myself on chasing other blind leads, I didn't follow that clue to the finish.  I shall try again on some more objects and report back.

I have been updating all the OBJDs for consistency on multi-tile objects, so that definitely hasn't been the missing element so far.  Thank you!
148  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: TS2 Store Asian Fusion Collection on: 2008 December 09, 20:57:21
Would someone be willing to set the flags for these objects to base game?  Right now, very few of the objects are showing up for the Mac game configuration (EPs up through BV plus FFS, GLS, and Holiday SPs).  The objects that ARE working are both end tables, the coffee table, both dressers (fixed by Lord Darcy), and the bed (fixed by Lord Darcy).

I've been working on them as fixes have come out.  Unfortunately, very few of the remaining objects show up with just a flag change: the arm chair, dining chair, and one floor lamp.  That's it.  I'm not sure if Lord Darcy just lucked out in picking most of the BV-compatible objects, or if she worked her magic on them... Cheesy

I'll put up a link for the missing objects shortly.

ETA: As promised.  This is knightguy's recolourable arm chair and dining chair: the cushions are made recolourable and the dining chair is slaved to the arm chair.  As well, the zip includes one floor lamp.  All three are flagged for base game, but note that the chairs probably require Pets EP or higher.
149  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: What hacks/fixes are absolutely necessary on: 2008 December 09, 20:27:14
I think it's fine to be choosy about what you put in your game.  If more people were, there wouldn't so much tight-pants-itis going around.  I started by putting in just the fixes, and even now with most of the DC in my game, I know on sight which updates to pick up from the Armory.

It takes time to become educated about hacks, but srsly parrot, if you're going to be choosy, it means that you have to do the choosing.  Don't be asking other people what you want in your game.  How the fuck should we know?

They also behave normally, if you greet them outside of working hours.  I have one who likes to show up at the owned businesses, and the salespeople all have the full range of social interactions with her.  She may not be a Local Chef though; I can't remember.  Maybe the chefs from the vacation 'hoods are off limits?
