101  Serious Business / Spore Discussions / Re: Anti Aliasing issues? on: 2008 December 31, 03:25:04
Yes, Parrot is on a mac, so there is no ATI Catalyst panel thingy.  I didn't install Spore on my mac, but TS2 for OS X doesn't have anti-aliasing either.
102  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Coffecuphack and Nobathroomdishes Incompatible??? on: 2008 December 31, 03:08:07
Are you sure you don't have any hack conflicts?  What EPs do you have?

I have both these hacks, and they work as designed.  Sims drop the cups on the floor if there isn't an open surface or sink nearby, usually in the same room.
103  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: TS2 Store Asian Fusion Collection - do not share files using MATY server spa on: 2008 December 31, 03:03:15
The more people get the files for free the less money goes into EA's pocket. Understood?

Absolutely, and if someone like you wants to assemble links into one post, I haven't ever even hinted you do otherwise.
If you want to share, then you'll do it whether someone asks or not.
If links are dead, it means those people didn't feel as strongly as you do.  Again, what is the point of asking?

To me, the requests seem entirely irrelevant, at best.  They just clog up the thread, but frankly all the Store threads belong more to you than to me.  If requests are what you want to see, then I'll leave you to them.
104  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: TS2 Store Asian Fusion Collection - do not share files using MATY server spa on: 2008 December 31, 01:09:48
I understand that the people who come to this thread are many and varied.  Some of them do want to stick it to EA, and if that's your cause, I have no war with that.  Until now, I doubt that anyone understood what you wanted to say, or why.

Of the people asking for links, I don't see how they're sticking anything to EA.  Many of them may certainly want to, but clearly they're not able to do anything meaningful about it, even if it's something as little as reading some previous pages to the thread.  Somehow, I don't think they're looking to make a political statement.
105  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: TS2 Store Asian Fusion Collection - do not share files using MATY server spa on: 2008 December 30, 22:30:37
I don't think I'm of any importance at all.  In this scheme, nor on MATY.

ETA: I don't know why you're butthurt.  Maybe my posting style just annoys you, but I honestly don't spend enough time or effort here to feel like my presence is of any significance one way or the other.  I hope that puts your mind at ease.

I do think that you've contributed an awful lot, and I'm appreciative of that in spite of not having gushed about it in the past.  I hope that you and others will contribute in the same way in the future, but due to that pesky intellectual property law I wouldn't be surprised if you didn't, and I wouldn't ask you to.  That is just a small courtesy, not demanded around here, but there you go.

I was trying to clarify the silly dance we do with EA around filesharing.  Certain activities are illegal in certain jurisdictions, and I couldn't give a rat's ass who indulges in them.  I do think everyone who does, should do so with some awareness.  That's all.

ETA: There are all kinds of reasons why a person would fileshare.  Maybe they don't think EA deserves the money.
Maybe they feel EA is perpetrating a fraud by selling broken objects without support or refunds.
Maybe it's not available in their country.
Maybe they are committing a political act of disobedience.
Maybe they just don't think they'll be caught.

Any reason at all is better than simply not knowing it's illegal.

We do it so openly here without any discussion at all, that I do think many participants truly are unaware.  I think this is precisely why there is confusion around PMBD activities, and sharing Store files.  I also think it would be a bad development if MATY became a place where everyone expected members to commit illegal acts, just because they have done so in the past.
106  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: TS2 Store Asian Fusion Collection - do not share files using MATY server spa on: 2008 December 30, 19:09:51
However, if you have paid for these items, and you need fixes, or want the content converted for use in lower EPs, many links in this thread still work.  I think you can assume that the broken links are due to files removed as per EA's request.  Please don't ask or expect those people to disobey the law by uploading those files again.

I couldn't pay for them if I wanted to, 'cause I don't live in North America. EAxis doesn't want my money!

You can pay a friend in the US or Canada to buy the items for you, or you can have that friend just buy a TSStore cash card, and download items from links here.  EA gets the money whether you ever redeem their card or not.

The legality of what you do in your country of residence is none of my business.  However, as someone who provided modified TSStore objects, it is somewhat important for me to state the intended purpose of the links I posted.  Understood?
107  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: Apartment Hack: Now For Non-Fat Gwilly People! on: 2008 December 29, 23:23:01
Why should using cheats to get my sims more money be better than make use of the apartment exploit? No way. I'll find out what the magicwand thing is, and if I don't ...

Wut?  Do whatever the fuck you want, it's your game.

Just don't come on here expecting hacks to change for your benefit.  JMP only cares whether he wishes to use the apt exploit.  All his hacks come in one version only: the version he uses.  It's beautiful in its simplicity.
108  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: What's on YOUR Wish List? on: 2008 December 29, 22:36:27
I have quite a few home businesses, partly because it takes so long to load community lots, even when tiny, and partly because there is no other way to correctly handle craftables and produce.

What's the problem with craftables and produce?  I purposely run these as off-site businesses so that the playables can buy only as much as needed.  I don't think I've noticed any problem, as long as I have the playable customer wait until the staff has restocked everything they chose to buy.
109  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: Apartment Hack: Now For Non-Fat Gwilly People! on: 2008 December 29, 00:10:58
There are innumerable ways to cheat sims some money, why not use them?  In fact, you could familyfund your college grads exactly the amount of the security deposit, if you wanted.

On the other hand, there are a paltry number of hacks which take money out of sims' pockets.  I like the features the way they are.  My college grads put up with roommates and max out their credit cards to pay the rent until they get real jobs, just like in real life. Grin
110  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: What's on YOUR Wish List? on: 2008 December 28, 23:40:50
I don't really see the double-dipping issue offhand. Clearly, they are being paid from "remote" income. Just as the business owner receives "remote income" from a business, the employees get paid out of that income. "Live" revenues are paid to both employees and business owners simultaneously, "remote" incomes are paid when you play the relevant fambly.

It's a question of how you choose to play TS2 economics.  Remote income from owned businesses can be controlled by the player.  Choose not to hire managers, and your town doesn't get the benefit of remote income.  As an employee of an owned business however, remote income isn't controllable.

Once, I experimented with not sending my playable employee to work, and after a few days, he was indeed fired.  I've since stopped paying such close attention to capital flow, but I do avoid hiring any playables until I'm ready to have the owner do the remote income exploit.
111  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: How to get rid of SecuRom, NOW on: 2008 December 27, 20:22:14
Neither applying patches, nor installing the game, in themselves, will not give you the nasty.
For more, please read the thread you are posting in, at least this page.  Really, it's not so hard.

I don't have anything against you personally, but do you see Craigbear's posts up above?  It ran away before I had a chance to play, and now I have this extra gallon of gasoline and nothing to throw it on...

112  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Toddler disappearance on: 2008 December 27, 19:47:56
I wouldn't worry too much about impending doom, as long as you repair the memories, and check the other families to see that their character data looks right.

Incomplete saves and game crashes leave trash, but the cause of the crashes is sometimes random.  I've had something similar a few times in my older 'hoods, but after a restore from backup, they march on as though nothing ever went wrong.
113  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: What's on YOUR Wish List? on: 2008 December 27, 19:39:27
I think it's a reference to double-dipping when you have playables as employees.  They get paid when the business is played by the owner, and a second time when the employee's household is played.  That second payment isn't deducted from the employer (unless you fixed it lately and I haven't noticed it yet).

The third time they're paid is when a playable customer visits the business, but I don't think of that as unfair payment, since the business owner is generating income from that visit also.
114  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: The One Shiny: Autonomy Control on: 2008 December 25, 03:54:44
From the untrained eye, the errors look the same.  I agree the logs are quite different, but all sims (townies and playables) threw an error upon dancing solo.  Is it possible I have some other conflict operating on exactly the same interaction?  Never mind, I guess anything is possible with 10K pieces of CC...  I took the dancepositioner out but won't have any time to play, to check whether I have another conflict also.

I regularly poach from the test directory, and even if you don't remember in your advanced age, I'm quite sure I told you that already.  I don't see the harm, as long as I can hunt down my own errors, as I have done?  BTW, the test directory under BV links to the current dancepositioner, the same way it linked to the older one.  I poach, but I don't deliberately poach incompatible hacks. Tongue
115  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: The One Shiny: Autonomy Control on: 2008 December 25, 03:18:55
I was using the LS tabletop stereo, which I think is still Awesomeware, but it doesn't matter.  I did an abbreviated binary search, and narrowed it down to the dancepositioner.  Why am I the only one who has problems with it?  Embarrassed

It wasn't the One Shiny after all, and now I regret making my post here instead of starting a proper new thread.  Attached is another error log, this time using the basegame boombox.  Feel free to move my posts of course, if you want more testing done.
116  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: The One Shiny: Autonomy Control on: 2008 December 24, 19:47:00
I'm having errors whenever a playable or NPC dances solo, either autonomously or directed.  I have many, many pairs of tight pants and normally I'd take them out to test first, but I don't have time to do it now, and one of the logs looked like it might have something to do with autonomycontrol, so here it is.

I've also had inconsistent errors with toddlers dancing autonomously, but they persisted even without hacks, so it's possible something is borked with this 'hood too.  If I happen to be misguided about the One Shiny, my apologies.

EPs up to BV only.
117  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: TS2 Store Asian Fusion Collection - do not share files using MATY server spa on: 2008 December 23, 00:05:26
Please don't nag.  It's annoying, and what you're asking for is illegal unless you've bought the CC from the Store.

We don't care about the legality, just so long as the files are stored off site rather than using a forum attachment (in other words, officially Not Our Problem).  If anyone would like to post the items on Mediafire, I will edit the first post of this thread to include the new links.

I'm not a mod, so I wasn't speaking for MATY.  Of course MATY would not care about the legality, because MATY is not doing anything illegal.  People who upload or download TSStore files are, and I think it's fair to state that.  Though MATY is not exemplary for polite discourse, I do think it's particularly rude to pester people to commit illegal acts.

119  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Please help. on: 2008 December 22, 19:39:06
Novelprogress still works fine in BV.

It's helpful to note, though, that sometimes "obsolete" hacks are still necessary for Macs.  If Pescado's made them obsolete, then yes, they're obsolete, but if an EAxis patch has made them obsolete, the hack might still be needed.

Yes, but if you had read the OP in its entirety, you would have noticed that their configuration is not the same as yours.

I have FT and AL.

Therefore, the use of the word 'obsolete' is entirely correct in this case.  Every statement does not have to be vetted through the lens of every single, possible game configuration.

It's helpful to note that Pescado actively maintains hacks that go all the way back to the NL engine.  I think you can assume he doesn't need to be reminded that older hacks are necessary.
120  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Makeover station glitch? on: 2008 December 22, 18:52:57
If it wasn't before, it is now.  I've had the glitch, too -- many, many times.  It doesn't have anything to do with servos.
I wish it could be invoked at will, but I seem to recall that JMP said that it was impossible to stomp failed makeovers, so I doubt he'd make a hack for this.  There are other, less phail-worthy ways of applying surgery.
121  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: TS2 Store Stuff on: 2008 December 22, 18:37:58
No, and no, not that I'm aware of.  It's technically possible to extract objects and clothes from a PC installation, and bring them over to your mac, but I think it would take you until the new year to learn how to do it and execute it.  It's a tedious process, even after you've figured it out.  Unfortunately, buying the Store objects isn't an option for us, either.  Sorry. Sad

ETA: If you can find a co-conspirator partner with a PC and the TSStore client installed, you can send them the money to purchase the objects for you.  They'd have to upload the objects, and then I can alter the files for your mac.  (Alternatively, if your partner is versed in SimPE, the changes aren't difficult to apply.)  This would be perfectly legal since you will have purchased the right to use the objects.
122  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: TS3 L&P on: 2008 December 20, 15:36:44
A EULA is only as good as your ability to defend it in court.  I didn't mean that anyone could claim ownership of the game by modding it.  I meant that if you made a video using TS2, in which all of the creative content was user-created esp. animations, you might be able to claim copyright (in whole or part) of the video.  A test case like that is only feasible because EA permitted a massive quantity and variety of CC to be made in the first place.
123  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: TS3 L&P on: 2008 December 19, 23:58:31
Given that the game is still months away at best, anything written is speculative.  If you cared about being perfectly accurate, you couldn't say anything at all.

I think EA lost control of TS2.  At some point, when it is possible to customise skins, lighting, replace every bit of default content, and produce custom animations, it is fair to say the game no longer looks or feels like the one EA shipped.  One of the forgotten requirements of owning a copyright is the owner's responsibility to vigorously defend it against infringement.  If Rolex didn't regularly pursue the vendors of counterfeits, they could actually lose ownership of their mark.

I'm not saying that EA has actually lost anything, nor that it matters now that TS2 is at its end.  No machinima artist has tried to profit using TS2.  However, I think they could probably mount a fair argument in court that they also have a claim to ownership, if all of the visible content is user-created.  From EA's point of view, this is not a position they'd want to find themselves in again with TS3.  While a large and lively community of CC creators does help sell the game, there's also a rational incentive to keep it within limits.
124  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Installed AL, new jump bugs on: 2008 December 19, 23:16:39
As you do the binary search, set aside the files which you've determined to be clean.  That way, the number of files you load gets ever smaller as you narrow down the bad one.

Note that the mathematical efficiency of binary search rapidly declines if you have more than one bad file, which seems likely since you've recently updated your EPs.
