76  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Jealousy with Romance mod on: 2006 November 28, 11:12:49
First, what aspiration are the other crushes?  It's a little unrealistic to ask for a sim where nobody else gets jealous about anything they do; jealousy tends to work on the part of the party that observes the "cheating" behavior.  If these observing sims are romance/pleasure sims with the right personality, everything should be hunky dory.  Otherwise, jealousy should rear its ugly head.

You'd probably also be wise to look into TJ's casual romance mod if that sort of freewheeling is what you're after.  After all, the woohoo leading to jealousy thing is an artifact of the game system; woohoo in the vanilla game requires love, and jealousy is triggered based on crush/love.  Lower the relationship requirement for woohoo and you can indeed have sims slut it up without attendant feelings coming into play.  (Although be warned.  Woohoo gives a nice boost to both daily and lifetime relationship, and a sim who has enough dalliances with a slut does run the risk of developing enough relationship to fall in love.  You're probably best off looking for something a little broader than the hacks here if you want jealousy to be entirely quashed from all sims, or even just all sims not currently in an established relationship.)

Why am I reminded of the fact that fun and games only get better when someone loses an eye?
78  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Expansion effects on regular play on: 2006 November 24, 22:22:04
I dislike the fact that the new careers are not addressed as LTWs & EA lying about why they didn't implement it. Supposedly they didn't want to force people to go to college, but, now there are new Pet & Business related LTWs? What about the people who don't want to start 5 businesses? or have 20+ pets? They are being "forced" to complete those goals.

The difference is that any sim can, at any time they chose to, start a business or buy a pet.  The player may not be that interested in a given EP's features, but at least nothing's stopping them if they feel so inclined.

The regular career LTW's (and possibly the child based ones, I don't remember how adoption plays into things) can become unattainable when your sim hits elder.  Which I guess is a bad way to go about things, but in practice unless you specifically don't want your sim to achieve their LTW, it's hard not to top off a career before then.

Uni careers, OTOH, are unavailable to all CAS adults and any natural sims you decided not to push through university.  Furthermore, as pre Renu-U aspirations were set in stone before graduation status was determined, Maxis decided not to risk shafting a good number of sims with permanently unattainable LTW's.  Things would probably be different if the aspiration change orb were available pre-Uni, or if EA were to put out a "cleaning up after ourselves" EP, but the first is counterfactual and the second woukld require stability to sell better than flash.
79  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Expansion effects on regular play on: 2006 November 24, 05:13:37
Pets...  yeah, largely adds pets.  If you're not looking for the whole pet experience, probably the best thing they add are the wormrat and bird, which can be nice without being as needy.  But even with the new cheats and build mode tools (basically, you get a lot of stuff to help you tear down or set up a lot much more quickly), it's not worth the sticker price.  Maybe worth $15-20 once the patch comes out.

Most of OFB's content requires some effort to unlock, as the real meat of the game isn't in the actual business dynamics, but in the things you can get from a business instead.  Business perks can give you some nice new abilities, and craftables can add some interesting new quirks to gameplay.  If you don't mind cheating a teensy bit, you can have one salesman sim who you spoon-feed money and badges to, have them buy a community lot as a general store or mall, and have your other sims buy toys, flowers, and robots there.

NL and Uni, though, you do have pretty much pegged.
80  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Getting paid to WooHoo on: 2006 November 18, 22:14:18
The actual hack part of it sounds trivial to do, but the request is both poorly described (does the selected sim pay, or are they paid?), and poorly thought out (this would affect every woohoo in the game, which would feel very wrong for many nonacknowleged couples and pretty much all married ones).  You'd be better off asking for a specific paid woohoo object, and you'd be better off asking at some other site; this really doesn't sound like the sort of thing a MATY modder would be up for.
81  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Why do so many people's male sims look like women? on: 2006 November 17, 10:19:43
Because Rohina is the only one saying it, I'm going to back this up.

Just as it's easier for a girl to be good-looking than a guy is, it's easier to make a good-looking feminine face than a good-looking masculine one.  That probably explains a lot of bishou even before you have to ask questions about poly count inherent to any video game environment.  So lots of modders, especially if they like using the newest custom content (either to fine-tune coloration or just to try out their newest makeup) will go for the feminine styles that go well with most things.

What gets me more are the lack of non-Maxis, non-over the top plain faces.  Sometimes what I'm really looking for is someone plain or even a little awkwards to fill out my neighborhood, and they all tend to gravitate to the same maxian templates.
82  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Is there any benefit to being a doofus? on: 2006 November 11, 03:55:19
With most traits for both sims and pets there can at least be some point seen in each end of the spectrum, but the genius-doofus spectrum seems a little silly.  I don't see any reason not to want fast learning in all my pets, so is there any counterbalancing benefit to being a doofus or is this just proof in concept that any innate "smarts" stat for a sim is a stupid idea?

Also, before I start an extensive retraining regiment, is it possible for a pet to learn the commands for both ends of learned behaviors, or are the learned behavior commands linked to the extreme scores?
83  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: missing expansion packs = missing Life Time Wants? on: 2006 November 09, 15:13:46
The prima guide said that the uni careers were legit LTW's, and many people seem to have gotten the idea from that, but even back in Uni they never showed up.  Removing them as wants in NL would be doubly silly, as NL introduced  the object that would actually make uni-based LTW's viable.  But in a surprising moment of good design at the time those LTW's were left out of the game, and it's unlikely that EA will go back and clean up any of their little oversights from past EP's.
84  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Safely bringing in a preplayed family... on: 2006 November 06, 02:58:16
To safely move an external house in, you need to sever all their outside connections in simpe.  I think the only places to find these artifacts are in the family connections and sim memories, but for any properly established family that can take quite a while combing through sim memories for everything, including gossips and markers, that points to someone outside the family.  And of course, all this is best done in a throwaway 'hood to avoid polluting your real 'hood with all the extra character files.  (Once the lot is clean, it can be binned and moved to a real 'hood at your leisure.)

Of course, the most important thing when loading someone else's lots is clean pack installer, and do be aware that certain mods your cousin is fond of might render her sims unplayable in a game that doesn't have such mods attached.  (I've had friends send me lots with anti-awesome mods attached; not just unawesome, but actively bloated and intrusive.  When I stripped these things out, all I was really left with was an empty house.  If your cousin is fond of such things, I'm afraid you'll have to use the "my computer choked on them" excuse unless you can extract the DNA on your own.)
85  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: There HAS to be a better way to find orphan meshes on: 2006 October 31, 09:05:31
Backing up Pes, with a but.  Nuke everything on your laptop and start fresh.  Look through all your objects and find the ones you most like (keeping in mind the tradeoff between the amount of stuff you have available and the load times required for it).  Make one lot with your CC essentials, package it to a file, and load that lot to a temporary neighborhood.  Nothing but the CC you chose.  (Well, that and hacks, so as always clean pack installer is a good thing.)  Like the boss said from there, see what you can collect and rename for your convenience and subfolder things properly this time around.
86  TS2: Burnination / The War Room / Re: Deleted 2: Electric Boogaloo! on: 2006 October 30, 19:49:46
Family aside, moving an occupied house into the lot bin is fairly well-known as a VBT.  There are ways around this (read:  severing every connection the incoming sim has to everyone else in SimPE; package a lot to a file and then reinstall it with clean pack installer to see just how many sim files have to come along), or else you can just find ways to make sure the furniture doesn't leave as the outgoing sim does.

If your method of getting rid of sims involves killing them but no mucking about in files outside of the game, you should be in a better position.  Dead sims are generally processed in much the same way as the living, even shredded files after gravestone deletion are designed to be parsed by the game.  It's just that the game is prone to confusion and population bloat as the number of sim files grows.  Pes' solution is for when you have a lot of sim files floating around the neighborhood unproductively and you want to cull some of the unnecessary files floating around.
87  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: I Have No Sales..Pet...(Name) Option..Anyone else? on: 2006 October 29, 20:00:13
I haven't had pets breed yet, so it might be that puppies/kittens can't be pawned off that easily.  But I just tried this with a fresh-from-CAS sim, and they were able to sell their pet without a hitch.

To see what might be causing your errors, turn on debug mode (don't worry, it won't make your game go asplodey), enter the lot, and try to sell your pet.  If you get an error popup message, remember what it points to, as that's your probable source of headache.  If you don't, look in (assuming you used the default installation path) My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Logs.  Sort by date to find the most recent one and post to see if that's any help.  (Yeah, Miros, that's the right path.  The my documents file doesn't subfolder itself.)

As a quick heads up, because one of the following two is what usually causes problems people post here.  Awesome modders will regularly update their hacks as they find bugs or EA changes the code, and awesome modders have no control over the works of the non-awesome.  So if your problem is caused by an outdated or non-awesome mod, all the people here can tell you to do is update or delete, depending.
88  TS2: Burnination / The War Room / Re: Myths, Urban Legends, And Apocrypha Of TS2 Explored And Exploded on: 2006 October 28, 20:53:25
Just to experiment, I made a sample family, moved the elder out, and had her invite and mass-encourage the broodling.  Encouragement was still available, and had effects when I checked back in on the home lot.  Furthermore, when the trait is maxed out (or minned out, for those of you who prefer it that way), you lose the option to encourage for that trait, so you can tell when you've reached what you want.

Actually adding a personality trait progress bar might be stymied by the dual nature of encouraging.  You want to keep track of the progress towards a new point, but you also want to keep track of it point by point if you want to fine-tune personalities.
89  TS2: Burnination / The War Room / Re: Myths, Urban Legends, And Apocrypha Of TS2 Explored And Exploded on: 2006 October 26, 18:02:09
I haven't tested this with pets, but in OFB I had a family where I wanted to try raising them to perfect personality.  Since the older sibling had time to kill in college, he would often invite the younger sibling over and mass-encourage her.  Once I got back to the main lot, the personality changes did indeed show.
90  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: locks on doors and gates not working ... on: 2006 October 26, 16:55:08
My personal experience has had illegal users ignoring locks, but only when they're either leaving the lot or they've already set their paths before the door was locked.  Users intending to actually use an object behind a locked door don't even show the blocked route thought bubbles.  Although I have had problems on home business lots playing the "come here" shuffle when I unlocked a door for a guest.
91  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: DAC in pets on: 2006 October 24, 14:04:15
There have been reports of maids not properly regenerating, and for some reason you need to set the townie-creator tree to create downtownies before the game does it right.  There are also new sim scores information in simpe, but I usually flush those along with everything else post-DAC.  Probably some other stuff I haven't come across as well.
92  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Zombie Cat? on: 2006 October 18, 20:43:51
I don't have either the game or the guide, but I thought the main points with pets was that they couldn't die, ever, from anything other than old age.  Has that changed in the shipping version, or was that ressurrection thing thrown in as a backdoor for when people do start modding in their own pest poison?
93  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Hooboy... family startover/save family options? on: 2006 October 07, 18:15:26
"screwed up?"  Define this a little better, as it's pretty hard to do anything with lasting consequences in this game.  If you're really bothered by a bout of suboptimal playing, it might be wiser to just cheat in what you think you should have than flush the whole thing.

If you actually want to paste a sim family in fresh, it's easy in theory.  "In theory", of course, ignores the immense amounts of note-taking and hassle you'll have to go through to either delete or splice every relationship, memory, and gossip.  Add in the X-factor the scenarios might cause, and it's wiser to either stick with what you might have or start the whole hood from scratch.
94  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Higher Hygiene for Communal Shower? on: 2006 October 03, 01:12:31
I tend to agree with Ness about the reality of communal showers.  But if you really want a hacked shower with a higher hygine, it might be an interesting learning experience to do it yourself in simpe.  Object cloning/modifying isn't horribly hard, and if you need pointers you can either post here or PM me.
95  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Uni questions, and playing advice on: 2006 October 03, 00:55:38
Second, is there someway to have the game properly reset the dorm rooms?

"Reset" in what sense?  If you you don't want the dormies to be there when you move in a new sim, I don't think so.  You'll have to have them give up their rooms by hand.  If you want a complete reset, on the other hand, you can always bulldoze the dorm and replace it with a carbon copy from the lot bin.  You'll lose any swag you bought for your dorm, but you will have the most complete sort of recall possible.  (And since students in the real world tend not to benefit from whoever lived in their dorms earlier, this approach is arguably more realistic.)
96  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: So what exactly IS it safe to change in SimPE? on: 2006 October 02, 20:44:27
Usually I change LTW's between careers, although at times I'll change it to *have event happen* *N times*.  The problems here are twofold; with two of every available career you might grab the teen version by mistake, and if you change from, say, max all skills to a career you'll have to change the number listed by the target.

If you want to change your LTW to a specific event, I've never tried that, so you might be better off asking someone else.
97  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: So what exactly IS it safe to change in SimPE? on: 2006 October 02, 18:59:32
I've taken to changing my sims' LTW's in SimPE, and so long as you know what you're doing there's no problem to it.  The issue with changing LTW's in particular is that you have to change several things, and SimPE isn't nice enough to update them all when you change one thing.

Which leads to my next point.  So long as you're not going after deep game files, you should be fine.  Everything in the neighborhood menu, for example, is fine.  The things in the main sim browser in particular are not only fine, but they're easy to change too.  The problems can come when you change some things without changing others, which turns it into more of a "know what you're doing before you do it" sort of thing.  Thankfully, you can figure that out by asking people who already know.

Much of the same goes for deleting things.  Some things, like SWAF's for sims who are no longer around, should be deleted as a matter of course.  Other things, like SDNA's, should never be deleted.  As a general rule, though, except for SWAF's you shouldn't need to delete things.  Again, if you're curious specific questions get better results than generic ones.
98  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Pregnancy Token? on: 2006 October 01, 22:13:34
Bubbs, first you might want to look more generally into multiplayer mods.  This might go over better at MTS2, but random tokens sims can be given to password protect lots and prevent those sims from having certain fates befall them unless specifically played at that lot.  The second thing you might want to do is say that each of you has their own grouping of lots that you'll play, and you won't mess with the other's sims that badly.  That way, the baby crazy people can play total family sim style, you can play your style, and at least until the whole thing goes BFBVFS you can share simspace without stepping on each others toes too much.
99  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Undoing Pregnancy on: 2006 October 01, 19:57:43
Interesting stuff, and I'll have to look mess with pregnancy in SimPE to see what fun stuff I can do later, but I'm curious where people figured out where the pregnancy modifier token came from.  I remember reading something way back in the day that tested it and found it wanting, as well as looking for an actual first tester for the case for the twin gene.  Pardon if this should be simple stuff, but to me it sounds like one of those things that everyone knows because they heard that everyone knows, rather than being able to point to something concrete.
100  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Automatic daily changing of clothes on: 2006 September 28, 17:12:36
Thanatos: I don't know how big JM is on hack requests, but what you sound like you want is two things; one that spawns a version of the dresser image whenever a sim changes into a certain style of clothes, and another that causes a dresser change to change to a random outfit into that category.  You might be better off asking some other modder, but neither of those looks to be particularly hard.  Just keep in mind that random clothing changes can lead to ugliness, a'la the random outfit sims get when going up an age category.

Ancient:  Even easier.  All we need is something to cause sims to change from nakedness into their underwear, whether or not you want some form of towel/bathrobe underwear for such occasions, and aforementioned random dresser.  Actual laundry elements will be harder to include, but at least the dresser should avoid the "back into dirty clothes" issue.

mdrturner: Something in me says that'd be harder to do than it sounds, but if someone with more awesome skills says otherwise, I'm willing to take the brunt of the pointing and laughing here,
