26  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Where are all the townies? on: 2009 July 06, 04:51:36
A word of warning:

From the Bug Reporting thread -

I'm having a couple of glitches with the newest available awesomemod*. One is that when I use the runstoryaction Move In Family, families are moved in correctly but seem to move out within a day or two. The other glitch is that my sims, after I used the runstoryaction cheat, now are both displaying a red box in the relationship panel.
Runstoryaction was intended for my personal debugging use only and is not meant to be used by the hoi polloi, so any problems you cause with it are your own fault.

I too am getting red boxes in relationship panels/all household members sharing the same relationship panels/Reward Points showing up on the wrong members/etc.  Hopefully, re-doing the Awesomeconfig to turn the 'testing cheats' and 'debugging' back to disabled might fix the problem.  (At least, that is what i'm going to try - if not, looks like i'll have a BFBVFS on my hands.  Smiley
27  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Where are all the townies? on: 2009 July 04, 17:40:37
I tried this with the 7 homeless families I had, worked wonderfully and also got rid of my 1am lag.

I totally concur.  After I FamilyFunds/runstoryaction the 17 (yes, you read right, SEVENTEEN) homeless families to their own homes (most of whom seemed to be single parents with little children), my 1 AM pauses went from 20-30 seconds per, down to about a second.  It was such a relief to see it zip thru those pauses.  Smiley

I've never gotten it to work in my game. Testing cheats and debugging are both enabled. This makes no sense.

Make sure you're typing those phrases correctly.  FamilyFunds will show up in the console box (type help) if you've enabled it correctly.  'FamilyFunds TheFamilyName amount' and 'runstoryaction Move In Household'.  If there's not an eligible home, the runstoryaction check box will have a 'move in where??' response, then you know you'll need to adjust either the homes (add beds) or make cheaper homes or set the family funds higher.

This challenge is forcing me to play several different types of LTW's (ones I wasn't normally playing in TS3), but I'm currently having problems getting the "Super Popular" one fulfilled.  She's showing 22 current friends in her panel (and Charisma info page is showing 22 friends).  She got the "Super Friendly" reward, but has yet to get her LTW fulfilled.  Any info out there, do household members still count against that 20 total?

Update:  She finally fulfilled the wish when she got her 24th friend (the 24th was a ghost).  5 of her friends are household members, so that makes me wonder if once again, Sims start with an Mystery friend?

I have had an issue with the rule about accepting the first lifetime wish that comes along. I understand why this exists, it's definitely much more fun and interesting to play with Sims of varying interests and personalities, but the problem with this is, all my Sims keep wanting is to become professional athletes due to the fact that my Sims all enjoy playing with the football and baseball together. There's nothing random or varying about that! I have since banned the use of said objects, but it's disappointing not being able to let my Sims play with them. It's a good way to increase fun and build relationships without having to micromanage them.  End Quote

I saw you deleted this post, maybe you figured out that there is no such rule yet, or mis-read a previous post about YA's being forced to accept a random LTW (if no LTW has previously been accepted).  YA's still get the 5 LTW's to choose from, if one hasn't been chosen yet, and there is yet no such rule about accepting the first LTW to pop up for children (or how to pick one for your Founder in CAS).
30  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: The Legacy Challenge for TS3 on: 2009 July 01, 23:53:55
Keep in mind (because I didn't) that in order to get 33 LTW, you need 33 sims. I suppose that could break down as 2 in the first generation, then probably 4 each generation since the legacy ends at the birth of the tenth. I should have kept all five sisters of the second generation in the house and had them reach their LTW, using one of the youngest twins as heir. Instead, my next family-oriented sim gets to be a baby factory. I'm truly tempted to restart the Tests, my Sims 1 & 2 family. They had 11 children in Sims 2.

I actually have a feeling we'll need more than 4 each gen to get all 33 LTW's.  Even with waiting until YA to get the 5 LTW options to pick from, I'm sure there'll be alot of repeats (unless one gets really, really lucky).  Are those 5 choices at YA purely random or do their traits and/or skills learned influence it?

Whenever I plant water melon it dries up and almost dies every day.. soo sick of this.

Also.. I havent figured out how to make the sprinkler automatic water the plants at night.

From my experiences, Watermelons (and the Money Tree) show the effects of needing water differently than the other plants, tho they'll all show as 'wilting'

As for the automatic sprinklers, they work automatically from 4-7 am, and there is no night option.

You'll also need a sim with a high enough 'Handiness' skill, to upgrade the sprinklers to 'Auto-water'.  I have yet to have a sprinkler actually break tho, when starting out a family and leaving them running 24/7.
32  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: The Legacy Challenge for TS3 on: 2009 June 25, 17:02:05
...I guess at least their relationship scores with others will improve.

With the lack of normal interactions while in the same house, and the rate their relationship scores plummet, those darn kids wil stilll be strangers to the rest of the family by the time they're teens.  Sad

Edit: My Sim married someone with the same LTW, so I got the perk to change LTWs. I didn't see any way to randomize how to select one of the five choices. Do we select based on a die roll? 1-5: pick from order listed from left to right. 6: roll again?

Shhh, don't give him anymore ideas.  Wink
33  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: The Legacy Challenge for TS3 on: 2009 June 25, 14:58:56
Regarding aging up sims early, you must wait for the "Birthday Message" the game gives you before you use the cake...

Just one more quick clarification.  Which "Birthday Message" must I wait for?  The one I get a couple days before, that say's it's almost their birthday, so start thinking about getting a cake (it's not like I have to call up a bakery, to pre-order a silly cake).  Or the one on their actual Birthday, when they have 0 days left of their current life stage?

I absolutely hate the way EAxis did TS3's Larvae/Sprog stages.  With TS2, having them at those ages was a joy.  And with 7 days as a Sprog (toddler), it just drags on and on.  With the 2-day pre-Birthday message, we're at least cutting it down to 5 days.  I still wait till the day-of for the Larvae's (no pre-message).  (I'd kiss the ground they walked on, if someone ever manages to bring the toddler-blanket forward)  Smiley

Edit"
Portraits: 1 point for creating a portrait of a family member and keeping it on display after their death. Like above, the sim must be part of the family tree and living in the legacy house to qualify for this point. You earn this point after the portrait is created, you do not have to wait for the sim in the portrait to actually die. Portraits are still worth their points even if the family member pictured is moved out of the house later on. The skill of the artist doing the portrait does not matter, as long as it features the sim in question it counts. Portraits may be of any size or style. Keep in mind that a sim must have a painting skill of at least 5 to get the option of painting a still life (needed to capture a sim's picture).

This confused me for a bit, for when my Founder's Spouse got to skill 5, she still couldn't paint a portrait (which actually comes at skill 7).  It finally hit me that you actually mean a 'painting' showing an eligible family member, not an actual 'portrait' (I was dreading having to waste the time of this generation's kids, getting to skill 7 in order to do one of the starting spouse, now I won't have to)..  Since a still life could be of anything, I could have several eligible family members in the same 'still life', would I still get 1 point for each eligible person in that painting?

I too await the separated parts of this mod.  I will be using everything you've included, except the 'faster eating' part.  The 'make out in bed' that just seemed to drag on and on, drove me up a wall.  --Presses thanks button--
35  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Objects I miss on: 2009 June 11, 03:58:47
Optional Cell phones!  One thing that drives me crazy is when my sims out on the town and they keep getting harassed by callers.

Turn off ringer?  I don't know if that stops the sound wave tho.

If you only turn off the cell-phone ringer, the sim still gets the sound waves.  If you turn off the Main phone in the house, then no more sound waves.  And my sims still get those random opportunity pop's, without having to stop what they're doing to answer the phone.

Larva and Toddlers are no longer interesting to me.  I totally enjoyed having spawn and sproglets in TS2, but for TS3, it's a chore in order to get to the interesting stages.

I also miss genetics that actually produced something interesting to look forward too.  Now each generation is the same as the last generation, because they all look the same.  I've got one line of males that spans 6 generations and they all look exactly the same.  EAxis went and gave the "First-Born" effect a whole new meaning.
36  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Facts & Strategery / Re: A special breed on: 2009 June 02, 05:42:02
I've been wondering if this doesn't just apply to Service Sims.  I had a sim that had the Clumsy trait.  I didn't give either of her kids the Clumsy trait, yet they tripped over everything just like she did.  Granted, I doubt EA is clever enough to come up with something like this, but has anyone else noticed little behaviors like this?

I concur.  My 5th gen male is clumsy.  His 2nd daughter is now a toddler, and even tho she doesn't have the clumsy trait, she's constantly stumbling over her feet, tho none of the toddlers in the past ever did.

like I don't have testingcheatsenable.

If you're typing it in exactly as you've spelled it, then it's no wonder it's not working.   It's TestingCheatsEnabled true/false, with a D at the end.  Type help for a list of the cheats in the game, tho i can't recollect if the Debug mode cheat is listed or not.

Just noticed, that after my paperboy kicked my non-working gnome, and I stood him back up, the gnome started his hijinks later on that night.  So obviously the old saying "He needs a kick in the pants to get him moving" really is true.
I already Kicked all of them several times and stood them back up, they're still stiff frozen. Thanks for the suggestion though Smiley I will kick them like 5 times in a row each just to be sure. Since you had that non-moving glitch too i wonder if they're just borked. Or maybe the RLD version is the culprit since they already had stopped moving before changing it for the Razor one. I will have to get new gnomes to test anew.

Looks like my solution wasn't the best.  After the first night of my gnome moving again, he never moved again.  Now I'm starting to doubt even my own memories.  I also tried kicking him several times, and no go.  I'll wait on that paperboy to autonomously do his thing again (my NPC's are weird - the paper boy sat on the outside couch a couple of times and the mailman sat at one of the outside computer stations and logged onto the interwebs - tho they both only did it for about a minute or so before leaving).

My three non-moving-anymore gnomes were brought back by my thief from her work. She also brought back a truckload of paintings and statues. Apparently these extras are supposed to be her share of the night's booty.
Too bad these damn gnomes stopped moving after a week. Arg i hate this bug.

I haven't tried the multitasking trait. Does it really make a difference?

I had a teen, who was having big problems doing her homework.  It'd take her over 3 hours to do HighSchool homework, and this was if she was in a good mood.  Bad mood, 4 1/2 hours.   Finally able to get her the Multitasker, and the time to do homework dropped by half.  That was worth it in my opinion.  As far as Skilling or work performance goes, no idea.

Save yourself up 40,000 Life Points and buy the Collection Finder thing, or what ever it is.. you can then see all the seeds on the map... so yeah its hit-and-miss.

Yep, my starting sim grabbed that after her LTW was fullfilled, and thank goodness it's transferable to other sims.

I suppose I need "moveobjects on" to drag and drop in live mode.

Nope, you can just grab/drop papers/plates over to the road-side trash can, no cheats needed.  The can will light up when the object is in the right place (like the fridge lights up when putting food/harvestables in).

Also, where is the money tree seed found?  Anyone know?

I found the Money Tree Seed on the up-slope besides the Cemetery (it might also be found by that Dome of the Science Center).  It will be one of the Unknown Special seeds.  So it's pot-luck planting them and seeing what grows, tho once it sprouts, you can tell it's a Money Tree, then get rid of the rest.
44  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: THE HORROR: The REAL TS3 Scoop As It Unfolds on: 2009 May 24, 16:43:04
Has anyone found and unknown seed? My sim found a seed that was unknown and uncommon, she needed level 5 gardening just to plant it, it is now a sprout but still says unknown.

Look moar, there's also Unknown Rares and Unknown Special seeds.  There's only one Unknown that you'll know immediately after planting what it actually is, and that's the Money tree from a Special seed.  You'll be able to deduce what it is by it's picture.

Edit:  Oh, i guess if you see a tree in a planted Unknown Uncommon, it'll be a Lime tree.  Unless besides Apple, Lime and Money, there's another 'Tree' out there, my sim has only planted 84% of the varieties.
45  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Story Progression Toggle: Is it borked? on: 2009 May 22, 03:01:25
It probably just runs a random roll among households for possible eviction. Anyone but the family you are currently in is included.

That explains the missing ONE and ONLY Friend my starting sim lost.  This will also play havoc with any future planning on which family I might like to marry my spawn into.  Who's to say they'll even be there when my now teenage son grows up?
46  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: THE HORROR: The REAL TS3 Scoop As It Unfolds on: 2009 May 22, 02:19:56
It's not only the doors, they could have a 2-tile wide hallway (or turning a corner in a larger room) and if two sims going in opposite directions meet, they'll stand in front of each other until one decides to go around the other.   grrr

That's interesting to know Kutto (mildlydisguised), because I found SimSocial interesting.

I found SimSocial a waste of my time.  Played for a week and got bored.  The only thing I found at all interesting, was the sliders to adjust my sims clothes.

I have almost the same problem, tho mine is one of the waitress NPC's being mixed up with one of the maid NPC's.  I could have my sim go to a restaurant and interact with the waitress NPC, it would be her face/name in his contacts list, but everytime he'd invite her over to his home, the maid would show up.  She'd have the waitress's name and pic in his wants panel, even tho the maid looked nothing like her.  I ended up killing the maid, then the waitress showed up for dates with no problem.  This also happened in a prior install and i was surprised when it happened with this current install.

I don't mess around with SimPE (my phail at understanding SimPE, let me show you it) so i never use it.

I vote for 4 Danish Drive. ciane's gone to all that trouble and it would suck to see it go to waste. Make a note for 407 Edgewater Parkway for June.

I'm fine with that too.  As I mentioned before, I'd be thrilled just to see what someone MOAR talented than I, can do with that Duplex.
