Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: Awesomemod Request Thread

Requesting a re-tuning of the new attraction system. I want it to be more logical and selective, although I don't know how feasible some of these ideas are. There's already a similar mod available at MTS, which is fairly extensive, but the attraction scoring for that mod is too arbitrary. (Here's the mod if anyone's interested: http://modthesims.info/download.php?t=492102) Anyway, here are some ideas of what the retuned attraction system could incorporate: - Opposites Attract: Sims with incompatible traits will be attracted to each other -- this is the main thing I'd like implemented, because it's already far too easy for trait-compatible sims to strike up a relationship, whereas sims who are incompatible take forever to get anywhere. The attraction system could be useful for balancing this out. And it could lead to interesting households, instead of just families with homogenized traits.
- Body Types: Sims are more likely to be attracted to sims with the same body type
- Lifetime Rewards: Sims with the 'Attractive' or 'Eye candy' LTR will be more likely to attract other sims
- Interests: Sims are more likely to be attracted to each other if they have the same favourite music genre / food / colour
- Tattoos/Accessories: Sims with tattoos, or sims who wear glasses, will be attracted to other sims who do the same (or the opposite could be true)
- Skills: Sims with high proficiency in a skill (i.e. => 7 bars) will be attracted to other sims with the same proficiency
- Moodlets: Having certain moodlets could contribute to attraction (e.g. Minty Breath, Attractive, In the Mood, Love is in the Air)...
- Reputations: Having certain reputations could affect your chances of being attracted. (No effect for faithful reputations, positive chance for experienced reputations, negative chance for betrayal reputations)
- Facial Hair: No idea how this could be implemented, since TS3 lacks a "turn-on" system, but it'd be nice if some sims could be attracted to sims with facial hair
- Celebrity Status: High-ranking celebrity sims will be attracted to other high-ranking celebrities.
- Age range: Sims will be more attracted to sims in their age range (YA-YA, A-A, etc). Alternatively there can be age discrimination, and sims will be more attracted to Young Adults than any other age
That's all I can think of for now. I'd add to this a request for a way to have a sim opt out of the attraction system altogether. A new 'Repulsive' trait seems like a logical way to do that.

@Cyberdodo: Who's that chick in your pic? She looks Korean.
I'm pretty sure she's a member of a South Korean music group, but I don't know her name. I like the avatar because she looks like she's having fun.

Ah, now I see what your issue is, Claeric. It would seem that the initial purchace price is based primarily on just the private area, but the bills you get in the mail are calculated based on the value of the whole lot.
Actually, that makes sense to me. It prevents people from having a pauper living in a mansion by making everything public except a broom closet.
So, to reduce your bills for your "rented room" apartment, decorate with cheap crap throughout the house (including cheap wall/floor textures), and keep hidden rooms empty.

I haven't used CAW since the first beta version (It simply takes longer to build a world than I care to devote to the task), so I don't have an answer. I can only guess.
First, I'd try poking around the menu to see if there's a setting for where to save. Probably under Options. Or, like many Windows programs, it might default to the folder where it last saved a file. If so, when you want to save a new copy, choose Save As and then select a different folder in the same window that you choose a new name.

Thanks for sharing your solution to your crashing problem.
I doubt your save file actually got packed. It's much more likely that it got corrupted, due to CAW crashing while it was accessing it. The error handling code in CAW is likely not sophisticated enough to tell the difference between a packed file and a corrupted one.

If I intended to use the word piece but wrote peace, that would be a homonym error. However, I intended to use the word peace and I wrote the word peace. Therefore I did not make a homonym error. I used the correct word, with the correct spelling, for my intended purpose. Why is that such a difficult concept to understand?
Actually, never mind. Don't bother explaining why you fail to comprehend. I'm no longer interested.

It actually is "said my piece". As pointed out here, a mistake being common doesn't make it any less of a mistake. Thank you for that link. It was an interesting read. However, that article does not at any time state that one form or the other of this idiom is correct. It is a discussion of the trend in the lexical trade between piece and peace within some idioms. An idiom is an expression, word, or phrase that has a figurative meaning that is comprehended in regard to a common use of that expression that is separate from the literal meaning or definition of the words of which it is made. -- The Oxford Companion to the English Language(1992) pp.495-496.
In the case of idioms, if a mistake becomes common enough, it is no longer a mistake. However, for the time being I will concede the point. I used an incorrect idiom. It is still not a homonym error.

Piece? Piece of what? Piece of cheese? Piece of pastrami? Piece of ugly butt? No.
Peace, for those here unfamiliar with the word, means the opposite of Moar Fight.
I wrote exactly what I meant. I did not say a "piece" of anything. I declared my intention to discontinue arguing with jeromycraig, because I felt we had come to some common ground in our dispute. The phrase I used is considered valid in the parts of the world I am from and have visited.
Thank you, snowbawl, for the help in pointing out where people think I made an error.

Okay, the way I am going to take it is "someone who makes basic homonym errors failed to recognise intelligent meanness." Thanks for the lulz, Cyberdildo. I shall add you to the P&L list for Grammar Day.
You're welcome. I'm happy to help the easily amused. By the way, the correct spelling is recognize, and there's no homonym error.

Ok jeromycraig, you finally gave me a chuckle. At last, a witty insult instead of merely acting like a belligerent ass. I knew you could Be Less Stupid. That's all I really wanted. About hunting down patch files, there's no need. The 3rd party patch downloader over at MTS is good at doing that for me, and in fact I already have the patch files thanks to it. Others here have said you're a major proponent for this patch downloader, so I find it odd that you have yet to mention it. Anyway, I have not yet had any need to uninstall and reinstall my game, but if I did I would simply install them in release order and then use the patch downloader to insure that everything is properly patched to the current patch. I don't suppose you have any complaints about that plan? At this point, I'm willing to concede the argument. I was just poking you for not including the patch downloader in your advice anyway. In the meantime, I'm checking my closet for launchers.

Yes, the launcher is flawed, but there is a point where your EA paranoia starts to make you look like a tinfoil-hatted moron.
There is a difference between conspiracy theories and recognizing patterns of poor quality control. Thanks for playing, please try again! Oh, how cute, a noobtard lecturing a senator.
Being a senator is supposed to mean something?

When you install TS3's stuff packs and expansions? And it says, during the installation, "NOW PATCHING previous versions"? What that means, you see, is that it is PATCHING PREVIOUS VERSIONS, which has nothing to do with the launcher, because it is part of the AUTORUN INSTALLATION PROCESS, you fucking idiot.
1) You trust EA's installer to work better than their Launcher? Why? 2) Even assuming the installer is better programmed, it is still limited to whatever patch EA put on the disk when it went gold, not the current patch. Fail. 3) The installer has never patched my game. Instead, it likes to complain that I'm already patched to a newer patch than it supports. 4) You're late. Do you really need Claeric to graphically point that out? 5) Your ridiculous changes in font size make you look like a shouty tard. Is that how you want to look?
