TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: What controls how much a photo can be sold for in OFB?

One nice novelty with selling photos and paintings is that you can buy the same one over and over again. I put up a photo for sale, closed the shop and sent the owner home. Then I went to another house and had a sim visit the shop. He bought the photo and came home. His roomie then went and bought the same photo, so now they have two copies. There may be an easier way to duplicate photos and paintings, but I found this fun.

I have a home business that sells clothes. I used one of the special "community stuff" collections, as mentioned above. Just be sure to use the tool to set it for sale, or it won't work. Yes, that's what I did. Took me several (sim) days to figure it out.
And hey, why not sell communtiy lot trash cans? Then you can use Pescado's handy tip. Not to mention the thrill of marrying a townie into the family, to learn they own 100 of them.

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Recommended hacks for Sims 2 with no expansion packs?

Thanks for all the help. It's been so long, I knew I had forgotten a lot.
I want to be sure to get all the good / vital hacks, and also appreciate the tips. It's amazing after all the problems that I could forget about the remote control car trouble.
There is a reason, by the way, he's going to play the base game, then add slowly. He loved the original game, but got bored with it pretty quickly. We think this will make it more interesting.
Of course, if Caesar IV is any good, we may both be abandoning the sims for a while! That's not due until fall, though, which probably means more like Christmas.

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Recommended hacks for Sims 2 with no expansion packs?

My brother is just starting the Sims. He's going to play the basic game a while before adding any expansion packs.
He has the official patch. What hacks do you consider must-haves for the basic game? I remember there were a lot of problems at the start, but can't remember how many were fixed by the patch. Or what new problems were created by the patch.

I have an exterminator named Robi Charvat in my game. The gypsy chose him for Kaylynn's blind date. I wasn't impressed with his grubby clothes, but she's crazy about him.
He's probably a standard sim who comes with the game. That means it could be some simple error that caused the memories.

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Hey Brynne - or anyone with Radeon Mobility 9700 graphics - help???
|
on: 2006 April 14, 21:21:53
|
I've specifically seen Brynne say she has a Radeon Mobility 9700 card, and it works well. I just bought a laptop with the same card, and I'm having problems. I get big flashing black blocks at the neighborhood screen and little black pixels twinkling here and there. When I load a house I get objects with jittery edges, and long triangles shooting out from moving objects.
I am assuming this is a driver issue. Well, it's more than an assumption. I had minor problems, and they got worse when I updated with the latest driver on the ATI site.
So if anyone having good results with this card could tell me what version driver they use, I can try to track it down and use that. Thanks!

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Help me install the game on an external hard drive

Ah, that makes sense. Thanks for the help!
I have to say, I'm really annoyed that EA used the "My Documents" folder for the save files. I at least think they should give us a choice of where their files go. My feeling is, it's *MY* documents, not EA's documents.
Luckily I don't use the folder that much, so it won't hurt to move it.

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Help me install the game on an external hard drive
|
on: 2006 April 02, 20:04:13

I want to install the game on my external hard drive. The game itself installs fine, but all the user files end up in "My Documents" on drive C.
This is a real problem, since I want the Downloads folder on my external drive. (It has a lot more space.) Any advice? I created a "My Documents" folder on the external drive and moved everything over, but the game just recreates the files on drive C when it runs.

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Can't change townies clothes - yes, that again
|
on: 2006 March 16, 10:11:50
|
After I give someone a make-over, I want to change their clothes. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. For some reason the "Plan outfit" screen will have no choices, no matter how many clothes the sim buys.
I'm wondering if it has to do with the townie's neighborhood. Can downtownies only "Plan outfit" downtown?
I would really love to see a fix for this. Has anyone researched it? Thanks!
Oh, I forgot to specify - I'm using the mind control mirror. I know I can use the teleport bush to make someone a family member, then make them a townie again, but don't want to do that. I have no way of knowing if a random sim is truly a townie, or a Maxis sim living in a house somewhere.

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Nightlife community objects available for residential lots????
|
on: 2006 March 04, 03:58:30

I think most people use these commands:
changeLotZoning community
changeLotZoning residential
You enter the first to make the lot a community lot. You exit, then reenter the lot to make it take effect.
When you've added all the community objects you want, you use the second command to return it to a residential lot.
I think this works with Nightlife objects, but I haven't tried it myself.

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: what!? no next EP hint in OFB box?

I'm afraid Pescado is right. There is no "Open For Business" expansion pack. Even worse, there is no "Sims 2" game. It's all a terrible scam by EA. I just loaded up my "Sims 2" game, and saw this: I'm afraid we were all tricked. How could we be so silly? You can't have little moving pictures on a computer! It's impossible.

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Poof! Teleport straight to work!

Somebody mentioned a flying carpet. Does anyone know where this is available for download?
I also like the idea of a sims teleporting to work, but ideally I would want them to disappear amidst a sea of sparkles, right after saying, "Beam me up, Scotty."

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Does cologne affect anything besides turn-ons/off?

Oooo, that would be good. Sloppiness and neatness would both make good turn-offs. Especially when you consider that extremely neat sims are pretty strange really - making up other people's beds, "cleaing up" plates of fresh food, and cheering when it's time to clean the toilet!
I imagine it's too complicated to make personality a turn-off/on, however.

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Wedding Limosine
|

For a temporary fix, you could use "moveobjects on" to move wedding guests away from the door.
As for other actions filling up their queue, you can temporarily turn free will off.
I've never seen the limo yet, myself. I've only had one wedding in my game. I keep intending to get sims married, but I forget. When I do get around to it my sims' wedding photos will feature their children and grandchildren.
