451  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: Using Aging Off/Story Mode Off - game takes 18 minutes to save on: 2009 July 08, 17:09:36
I went ahead and made everyone in my neighborhood sacred, then raptured the rest. The game removed 149 sims, but saves still take about 6 minutes for me. Not as bad as 20, of course, but still annoying. So the homeless might not be the cause.

I tried the therapture command without sacred and it removed 189 npcs. Then reloaded and used it after setting households to sacred in edit town mode. Again it said 189, but I doubt that it actually removed that many, that is probably just listing what it expected to remove if it wasnt for the sacred option. However, It did remove about 55 from the listhomeless. The problem is, i still had 10 NPC homeless afterwards, and then after returning to the game that number went up to 33 NPC.

Where do all these homeless "NPC" come from I wonder, and how can I be rid of them; do i need to be rid of them?

Dont know what could be causing your issues, but just in case, here's a few tips.

Even with a non-legit game, you can still use the ea launcher to install stuff. The recommendation is usually to disable the network connection first, though not sure if it really matters. Then to save diskspace, just delete the files from the downloads folder after. That's if you think you are having issues with Delphy's installer. I usually always clear cache files when installing new stuff, i just find it's more reliable.

As for extra protection. I doubt they are protected, as every person who downloads from the EA store gets the exact same links to files. Though always run those official sim3packs through the compressorizer, as most the time they wont work otherwise.

Actually ive just done something similar. Using the listallhomeless command I found I had 59 unnamed NPC and about 6 named. I went and made each household sacred and then did the command JM suggested "therapture", which then purged everything but about 10 nameless NPC (unsure why they remain.) If that doesnt work right, then I'll try the export method.
454  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Where are all the townies? on: 2009 July 08, 15:39:24
I thought I should try this in an attempt to clear up my save issues. However, I get a fail each time, even if I bump up family funds to 500k on all homeless bums. I have 6 homeless families and 59 NPCs homeless. Each time I runstoryaction on them, it says "FAIL" and tells me the action could not be vailidated.

Anything more I can try here?

Why, why, why does MATY sometimes just not load pages without me refreshing repeatedly for days at a time, and then work fine other times?  I never have this problem with unimportant sites!

I have the same problem. Sometimes pages don't load at all, other times they load immediately. It's very inconsistent.

Welcome to the internets

It's not quite as inconsistent with most other sites, at least not for me. The tubes to MATY give me more trouble than my other regular sites. But I'll live with it.

I live on an Island. All the tubes are inconsistent, but equally so Tongue

Pescado, that was ebil!  Grin
I just managed to kill my entire neighborhood, trying that! I do have story mode on, unlike the OP, but I have the 20 minutes save problem too after installing some custom content -- which also fails to show in the game anyway. Meh.

I have story mode on. What sort of custom content are you installing?

My GF was having issues after installing lots of .package patterns. It would reach a point where she couldnt save and was getting graphical corruption after installing a certain amount of patterns.

No tabbing out, in my case.

My AwesomeMod neighborhood takes forever to save--or almost five minutes, anyway--and causes my computer to sound like it should be cleared for takeoff, what with all the fans kicking up to high speed.  The amount of time between saves seems to make no difference at all.  It takes forever to save even if I've JUST saved and haven't even done anything else.

My Indie Stone Mod neighborhood saves quickly, and the computer stays quiet about it.

Differences in the the two neighborhoods besides the mods:

The AwesomeMod neighborhood is older by about one generation of Sims.
In the AwesomeMod neighborhood I'm essentially playing the entire town, while with the Indie Mod Neighborhood only one household has been played thus far.
The AwesomeMod neighorhood has six or seven lots I've created in it (actually only four, but one--"cheap housing"--is plopped several times.)

I'll plop some of my custom lots into my Indie Mod neighborhood and see if that causes that one to take forever to save.

ETA: I plopped all my custom lots, and moved to another household, following the oldest child of the original household.  The game still saves quickly and without computer fuss.

I've had the save issues regardless of Awesomemod. They seem more related to the amount of data being saved. The further I progress in the game, the more likely I am to experience save issue. Early on in the game my saves were fine. Starting a new game and my saves are fine (with AM.) The problems show up once my main house gets to larger sizes, and I start manipulating more NPCs or adding other houses, and thus the save gets bigger. We arent alone in these save issues. If you do some googling like I have, you will find there are plenty of people with the issues I listed above. Everyone has a different "idea" as to why it happens. I've heard everything from cheats, cracks, 64bit, patching, piracy and mods to cause it, but I can dismiss most of those as I have several installed versions of the game running here, one has no Awesomemod, no cheating, no cracks, is 32bit and is legitimate, yet still gets the issue.

From all I've experienced with bugs around the time it starts having save issues, it seems to be more to do with a memory leak issue than anything else, and that problem seems to get worse as you progress through the game and obtain more items and more sims.  Take a look at your save game sizes. The bigger they are, the more data is being saved and the longer it will take to save. Mine are currently around 40Mb, and the GFs are around 35Mb, though they have been known to jump up to around 60Mb from time to time for both of us (remember she doesnt use any mods, just patterns.)

As for the act of saving. I never alt-tab when saving. The first couple saves usually work fine, and take about 20 seconds. After I've played a couple hours, I start getting issues with saving, such as crashing or error codes during trying to save.

I've recently tested my theory of mods possibly causing memory leaks and it doesnt seem to be related as nothing changed in terms of my save ability. I would guess that it's and EA problem and only crops up for players after they have progressed in the game and accumulated a lot of stuff. That seems to be when I start having issues and when the GF starts having issues. Which seems to be the case in your example above too. In one game you have no issues, but it's a fairly early game, where as the AM version has been played a lot longer.

459  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: Using Aging Off/Story Mode Off - game takes 18 minutes to save on: 2009 July 07, 16:09:17
Doing a little more investigation on the saving issue. Seems that after a certain time my game starts experiencing little bugs, which are hard to notice unless looking in the right place at the right time. One of those is textures go missing or turn black on certain objects, the other is that animations start doing odd things (arms on backwards.) Most of which to me sounds like a nasty memory leak, which would also explain the corrupt saves after a certain point. However, I can't really say what could be causing it.

I can say that my GF was getting some graphical corruption when having too many patterns installed. The more she installed, the less time she could play before having issues (she doesnt use mods, only official addons and player made patterns.) This could mean that the base game has a issue that is made more obvious by installing more packages and mods. Or that the packages themselves are causing an issue. I'm going to try removing some .package patterns and see If i get more playtime from doing so. It has to be something pretty common, as a lot of people report these save issues, and my guess would be crappy coding from EA rather than an issue with the package files or patterns themselves.

Keep in mind that I run a legitimate copy of the game, without any NO-CD cracks or such. I have all the EA addons installed, Awesomemod, some xml tweaks and a lot of patterns. While I can play longer than she can, it could be due to having twice the hardware she has.
460  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: Using Aging Off/Story Mode Off - game takes 18 minutes to save on: 2009 July 07, 10:08:10
I've been living with save issues for a while now. Usually I get around 2 good saves before I start having issues with saving, and it's always one of three issues.

1. Endless save. Possibly the same as your 18 minute save, except I haven't waited around to see. I usually end-task, as it's quicker to redo the last day than wait for it.

2. Error Code 12/13. I haven't had 13 for a while, but 12 happens quite often, and at this point in time I have not found a working fix.

3. Save Crash. Simple CTD when saving.

What I have noticed in all these three scenarios is that the bad save files are usually much bigger than the usual saves. Also that they usually don't start showing up until later in the game, as the save sizes increase.

I've had these save issues before installing mods. Some have suggested it's 64bit Windows, but there is no evidence of that and my GF's PC is 32bit XP, yet she still gets them, just not as often (without awesomemod). I've reinstalled the game as recommended by EA, and it didn't fix it.

Originally I went through all kinds of system tests to make sure my RAM, CPU and HDD was in good health. So with all this, I can assume it's EA's fault and not anthing to do with AM or my own system.
461  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: Awesome Mod and EA patch installed, Story progression and Aging won't turn o on: 2009 July 05, 08:23:27
You seem to misunderstand what features do:

First, story progression is not aging. Story Progression is the random "phantom events" that are forcibly imposed on sims instantaneously. Aging is the gradual progression of the aging meter, regardless of the above. If you turn story progression off, your sims still age, and vice versa.

While discussing story progression. AwesomeMod changes/disables a lot of Story Mode events. What other phantom events are remaining that arent handled by AM? I

I know there is a commandline switch to disable Storymode, and I'm wondering what else that may affect, that isnt already covered.

Doesnt surprise me at all. When my pre-order arrived, I went and grabbed every free item I could from the Store, only to find that half of it wouldn't install correctly. I had to use a third party app to patch my official addons to get them working in my official game. Good Job EA!
463  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: Awesomod discussion/questions/helpful tips thread on: 2009 July 05, 04:24:23
When it comes to compatibility for AM and other mods, is there an easy way for one to check those mods to see if they will conflict with AM or not?  I often open the .package files with Postal for a quick look through, but what is it I need to look for in those .package files to determine whether or not the mod will conflict with AM?
464  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: Awesomod discussion/questions/helpful tips thread on: 2009 July 03, 17:40:24
Anyway, after finding the enablescripterror thanks to some "lovely directions" I applied it to the game as well as the booter program. And I did make sure i read everything very thoroughly this time, believe me i wont make that mistake again! But the game just keeps booting over and over and never makes it past a black screen. I made sure i tried all the suggestions right down to removing all my mods and deleting caches to see if there was a conflict. I had downloaded a version of the town that makes people not generate so its an empty shell town but when i removed it the same thing happens. I can only guess that I have something else that i downloaded that has changed a global setting or something. This mod sounds incredible and i desperately want to try it so I may be facing a uninstall/reinstall? I'm not sure.

the enablescripterror.package actually made me unable to boot with the latest release of AM.  Uninstalling mods is as simple as removing the package files you installed from the Mods directory. You may also need to clear all cache files from the sims 3 folder in my documents (under electronic arts)

You need to enable the check disabler. After that, it probably takes an XML tuning to enable the interaction for 12s, but I bother with that, it's not a priority. Someone else may have made one, though.
I am in the process of making one, and have succeeded in making WooHoo available from Bed Cuddle. However, it is not possible to get teens to get the WooHoo option from standing up (or Move In, Propose Marriage, etc.) with AwesomeMod installed because you recently added the 0x4B0FC8F0A28B12EF resource to AwesomeMod to get the Pedophile and Pedobait traits in. I could make the mod a mod of AwesomeMod [lol] but that would require an update every time AwesomeMod is updated.

Is there any way to make part of a XML Resource or something? Huh

Edit: If someone could make a tool that could 'patch' together two mods that use the same resource file but different parts of it, it would let us get around the ONE AND ONLY ONE thing. It could compare the differences between the two modded resources and then check the original resource to see if the two mods could be successfully combined.

Remembering how it was when I was a teen, it was usually the on bed cuddle that got me into trouble with the woohoo Tongue

I assume once you work out woohoo, teen pregnancy wont be far behind?

Opera has zoom per tab, and some other nice features, but lack others.
I use FF, Opera and when forced to, IE, depending on what I need of my browser for the moment.

I have tried Opera in the past, but at the time it wasnt the browser for me. I used to use maxthon back in IE6 days, but then got tired of its instability and incompatibility. I went back to IE7/8 for a bit, but found it took ages to load, it kept hanging on certain sites and was generally a pain. Gave chrome a try, but didnt like its lack of features. I've been using FF for a while now, and mostly use it due to its high level of customization and available plugins. I have no need for IE at all, as IE Tab does that trick at a click of a button. Customization is a big thing for me, and in FF i have made an entirely custom skin based upon the default skin, but using stylish scripts. Even when it comes to gaming, all my installed games are heavily modded,  and there is always something im tweaking or modding on my PC.

I was actually quite surprised over the reaction to my stylish script, as it's a pretty common thing for me to use and this being a modding forum, i thought i'd find some folks that appreciate a small custom tweak Smiley. However, i have been and still am Admin for a couple forums around the planet, so I completely understand the miss-communication issues that arrise from all the different cultures around the world, which is why i've tried to explain myself as calmly as possible. Hopefully everyone understands now that this wasn't a request post, but simply an optional mod Smiley
468  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: AwesomeMod Config - Stylish on: 2009 June 29, 04:09:10
I think it's nice the stylish option for sites such as google but kind of silly to bother changing the lone Config page. Why would you be spending large amount of time on the Config page anyways? Should it not only take a few clicks to use and be done with it? If the text is too small though, there is a text only zoom option in Firefox (and most browsers?) under View > Zoom. I do use that, because my eye-sight is poor and the text becomes so small on my large widescreen monitor sometimes.

It is true that zoom will increase font size and I still use it frequently, but unfortunately (Even in FF), it will increase the zoom for every page, not just one you are viewing. Stylish allows to tailor a specific page without altering others. For example, my zoom level is set to a comfortable level for most sites, but I still found awesomeconfig to be a little too small for me to view comfortably, so stylish allows me to alter that and bring it up to a level I find comfortable.  Most my reasons for doing so for the awesomeconfig have already been stated in above posts, and it really only took a minute to do, so it's not really a bother to do so. Also the fact that sometimes us geeks enjoy tweaking anything and everything Smiley

I'm Senator jolrei, and I am AGAINST any and all mods that would increase time spent in bathrooms.

But jolrei, bathrooms are pure, holy creatures - like trains.  Sims should do little else but spend their time in the bathrooms.

It is asinine that sims don't actually animate out of cars anymore - even without watching a vehicle I'd figured something was going to be wrong with the "go ahead and put them anywhere" driveways.  Pretense is for things that do not at present exist, and while there might not be a "get out of your car" or "pull into the driveway" animation, there is a hand washing animation.

How hard would it have been to add sections to the driveway extensions of sims2, such as corner extensions or shorter extensions. At least then we could have put the garage/driveway pretty much anywhere on the lot and still had nice animations rather than warping.

One of my sims washes their hands after every loo break. Its possibly the neat trait, but I dont recall exactly which traits she has. I dont think sims do number 2s, only number 1s. The men stand up every time. Tongue

Simplified. Black background, white sans-serif font, with fixed px rather than percentage size changes. Keep in mind that this is to suit my widescreen and screen res, so make your own adjustments accordingly.

473  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: AwesomeMod Config - Stylish on: 2009 June 27, 14:38:33
It seems I have misunderstood your presentation.  Originally I thought you were saying the config page should be redesigned.  However, from your last post I gathered that Stylish isn't something that has to be implemented by the site but rather something implemented by an individual.  That being the case, my observations were completely wrong.  I apologize for taking umbrage and speaking out of turn.

Not at all. I'm just thankful that we have a config page in the first place Smiley

Science tells us black (boldish) text on pale yellow (slightly paler than Excel pale yellow) is easiest to read, closely followed by dark purple on same.
For large text san serif is better, for small print serif.
The contrast between background and text should not be to large, black on light grey is easier on the eyes than black on glaring white.
This is at least true for printed matter (subtractive blending), screens (additive blending) don't seem to chance the result.

One drawback with colour is that if you look at one colour for a long time and then look at a white wall, you will se a shadow image in its complement colour.
Green is the complement colour of blood red, so operating theatres usually have pale green walls and scrubs.

Black on yellow might be ok, but for me (at least in this scenario), it was about staying up late and having sore eyes from the monitor glare in a dark room, i didnt really plan it very much, other than choosing a colour from another stylish I use on another similar site. However, the good thing about stylish is that each person can edit the fonts and almost every other page element to their liking.

474  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Pudding Factory / Re: No money for you! Higher bills in three flavours! on: 2009 June 27, 11:50:43
Cool, the higher bills will make things more challenging next time I make a household. I like the idea of having to be very careful with my funds.  Have you tried the 5% and 10% versions yourself from a new game? Im wondering if it makes the game impossible or not.
475  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: AwesomeMod Config - Stylish on: 2009 June 27, 11:41:05
Then why the fuck are you at this website? Don't you take offense at the fact that there are mods here that change what EA made? Why don't you give Pescado the same shit you're giving Anach? Using your logic, he should make a new people simulator game from scratch because modifying the Sims is telling people "I'm not saying you're doing it wrong, but here's how you are supposed to do that." Roll Eyes

The fact that Anach posted a stylish script doesn't affect you AT ALL. He didn't tell Pescado to modify anything, he was simply offering something up for people to use.

Did Pescado go on the exchange and tell them they were doing it wrong?  Nope, he made a forum and posted his mods there.  I suggested that if the OP didn't like the site as Pescado designed it, he could make his own version to do what the config page did and host it himself.  Pescado didn't like the bugged version of the sims games so he fixed what he thought needed fixed and hosted his version.

I'm not sure if you are misunderstanding what Stylish does, but I dont understand the logic of your hostility over this. No one came here and said anyone was doing anything wrong either, I havent once said that my theme should be used over anyone elses. The config I made simply edits the page colours to my preference, which is what stylish is all about. It is no different than allowing each person to choose their own forum theme. J.M has done a great job of the config, and having two config pages available to the public would just confuse the whole mod and would most likely be frowned upon by J.M.

Take a look at this Stylish theme for Google.  Simply because I use this, doesnt mean I'm telling Google how to run the show. It's simply a theme. The same if I was to offer a pattern for Sim3, doesnt mean I'm telling the whole world that my Pattern is supperierr to all others. It is simply an entirely optional alternative, which only affects those who choose to use it. It makes sense to offer the script here as it is for this site. If J.M had an issue with it, im sure it would be removed in an instant.
