I get the same blue screen problem with my ATI Mobility Radeon X1400...I know what's causing my problem: the drivers.

That and the fact that you are running off a laptop, which means your processor may overheat if you don't do some extra cooling.  This could also cause slowdowns and crashes.  Your card's specs suggest that it should run the game in any case.

I'm on a Dell, which is a warranty replacement for a previous computer that had major overeating problems (I don't seem to have as many problems with this now). The Dell part means that Ati won't support the drivers, and the warranty replacement means I didn't choose it. I know it's not the best thing ever, but it's not like I can impulse-replace anything, being a college student. The Sims is the only thing I really ever have a problem with. I only have one computer, after all.

Is there a list of hacks that are not compatible with FT? I think that'd be more useful to me than anything else.

I get the same blue screen problem with my ATI Mobility Radeon X1400. The more CC I use, the more often it happens. Stripped down, the game doesn't do it barely at all. I actually had to stop using custom cars because they put to much strain on the system. I know what's causing my problem: the drivers. If this problem gets too serious it crashes my computer, blues screen of death-throws style. The blue screen tells me my atiblahblah.blah driver has crashed.
I can't really do anything about this problem, but I thought it might help someone else to hear about it. And as advice to those of you having a similar problem: watch the CC. Poly counts are a bitch, apparently.

I wasn't sure if anyone would want to know, but this is still broken in FT, even with the new BV patch. I just installed all that this weekend (I now have all stuff and expansions installed) and tried to have my kid drink cocoa (he was exhausted at 7PM. What little kid goes to bed at 7?). Anyway, I was looking through the FT hacks directory and this wasn't in it, and I was wondering why. Another question: would it be possible for the kids to make their own cocoa? It gets annoying to need an adult to do it; how hard is dumping packets and water in a machine, anyway?
Also, does anyone else feel the motives in FT crash really fast? I'm suspicious that Eaxis made regular sims' motives go down fast so the rewards would be more worthwhile. Just a thought.
Thanks for this fix.

Thanks for this. I hate to seem uninformed, but it works for the vacation lots, too, right? I was able to borrow BV after getting FT, so on my first vacation I was very disappointed that my sims didn't seem to be enjoying their hobbies. Aren't hobbies one of the things people take time for on vacations? Honestly, I would've thought that with the shininess of FT, they would've polished up their second-newest expansion as well....

I wanted to add my own anecdote here.
I  couldn't play the Sims for a few months earlier this year because, off and on my comp would overheat. The processor ran hardest for the Sims, since i don't have any other processor-intensice games.  Anyway, i have a 3-year waranty with Dell (expires in Aug.), and so i make them fix it everytime. This April, they told me that the overheating had become a safety hazard, so they wouldn't fix it anymore. They insisted on replacing it. i wasn't to happy about this, 'cause the only computers they still had with the same spec. would be old and refurbished (3 years is a long time, tech wise). My new comp came, and it was refurbished, but it is comparable to the value of my first one when I bought it. I now worship the almighty waranty when not playing the Sims 2 with my dual core processor and 1 GB of RAM (I had 256 MB before). I had never realized that the Sims didn't take 15 mins to load every new screen for everyone.
Anyway, my point:
1. Computer hardware errors cause overheating
2. Always buy the extended waranty.
3. I don't think I'm spelling waranty right.
