26  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: AWESOMEMOD & SCRIPT HACKS: CRASH ISSUES THREAD on: 2009 June 09, 01:40:18
Here to report my crash issues.  I'll update this reply if anything else comes up.

1. Installed framework and awesome mod, started a new game (for testing purposes), everything loaded and worked fine
2. Closed the game and restarted it resulted in crash to desktop
3. Deleted cashe files resulted in CTD
4. Removed awesome but kept frame work resulted in loading
5. Re-inserted awesome and CTD
6. Installed enablescripterror package did not delete any cashe files and game is running smoothly.  In fact I'm now noticing a difference between speeds 2/3 in my game.

I will conduct further testing tomorrow and report what I find.  Now I'm off to bed b/c I have work in a few hours.
27  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Motive bars outdated and restrictive? on: 2009 June 09, 00:46:06
I think that the game play would be fresh but I don't think it would benefit anyone.  Yea, it'd be something new but it's not something most sim players want.  The big thing about the Sims is managing their needs, personal life, work life, family life, and social life.  Now, while I find the use of moodlets to be interesting I wish there were more negative ones.  Heck, I wish there was a way to truly make your sim angry at you enough to  curse you and wish a pox upon your family.  TS3, IMO, is too easy with the moodlets.  And while taking away the needs bars so that you don't know exactly what's wrong with your sim would make the game more challenging it would make you want to punch a baby every few minutes.  Have you ever taken care of a baby/toddler IRL?  That's what playing TS without need bars would be like.  You'll be constantly wondering if they're going to remain happy all the time.  Are they going to eat at work or should you make them eat now?  Are you going to over feed them if you feed them now?  But if you don't feed them what if they die on the job?  GAH!!!111!!one!

Yes, I must say I am happy to have the needs bars, slightly to have the moodlets, and unhappy with how long it takes to kill sims in TS3.

One thing that I wish EAxis had done was make the needs play into the mood bar and then have the moodlets be boosts to that.  Why the heck should my sim be insanely happy when they're starving, just pissed themselves from seeing a ghost, and in the red for fun?  Why?  I'll tell you why!  Because the day before they went to the movies, took a tour of a military base, had a great kiss, and I just so happened to fulfill a stupid "buy something worth $500" wish.  Yea... The urge to download him is way too compelling.  Way to compelling.  *tries to resist and fails*

Thanks for this!

I am so very, very pleased that there is an actual town that you can explore.  You can run around to your heart's content from house to house, park to park, store to store.  This is how I always wanted it to be.

This is something I've been enjoying greatly myself.  Now if time would pass slower at spd 1 and faster at spd 3/4 I think my sims would get the most out of their days and I would get the most out of their nights/down time.

I am OUTRAGED that there is no BodyShop program.  If we had that, we could at least begin the process of trying to customize skin textures (dear God, they are ghastly)

They're beyond ghastly and the same texture is used no matter the weight of your sim.  I was highly dissapointed when I noticed that as I was making a male character. At first I wanted him to be lanky after making his wardrobe I changed my mind.  While he was in swim trunks I discovered the lack of texture change from light weight to heavy.

Also, I am very disappointed by the face manipulators and default face structures in the game-CAS.  I have heard some people say they are more powerful than the equivalent TS2 tools.  This is UTTER, COMPLETE, TOTAL BULLSHIT. ... We might be stuck with this shit for a long, long time.

Yes, those people are full of crap.  I've only found one way of making female sims look somewhat decent and that's a heart shaped, slightly elongated face.  The only downside is that when sims loose weight (which is WAY too fast IMO) the cheeks get really sunken in.  If I make a heavy sim it shouldn't take one work out session for them to shed 40/50 lbs!  I like female sims with a body similar to mine, kinda curvy and muscular and EAxis just takes all the curves away the second your sim touches a treadmill.  Fit women can have breasts damn it!

ETA:  HP has made some re-textures of the TS3 skins.  For some reason I can't get the link to work even after using the direct link to this thread option on MTS3.  It's on the first page of MTS3 though.

Thanks Sleepycat and Zazazu.  I've been following the forum for the past week waiting to see what the verdict was.  I guess I over looked something.

Don't say 'It is retarded". Say the truth- it annoys you. Then people can go from there.
-Dureth  Cheesy

I think she got her point across fine.  Retarded on MATY is different than retarded in RL.

On topic:  fiberglassdolphin, I've had a hard enough time making sims look unique without relying on skin tone and hair color.  While the 'middle ground' EA choose, imo, is hideous I'm with you in the idea of wanting to be able to control how ugly the sims turn out to be.  The sims in the hood look like clones and since someone noticed that their method of fixing it was giving them hook noses and different skin tones.  I kind of wish they had gone with a system where you click on your sim's face and drag the mouse to get the look you want.  Now that could lead to some unique looking sims.

Good to know we're dealing with a rude person who disregards the fact that this forum DOES NOT LIKE redundant stupidity like signed posts.

Hook is a special case, and does it primarily to get on specific people's nerves, to boot.

Stop signing your posts. It is retarded, especially as we can see your username RIGHT THERE.

In my mind it has nothing to do with seeing the user name, it's like ending a note or a letter.  You sign your name.  It's polite in my book.  If it's rude in yours then I won't do it.  Maybe i missed the post where it was said to be rude to sign your post but I have gone through this entire thread (even read the FAQ albeit a year ago) and I don't remember reading anywhere that it was regarded as rude.  Well, now I know and knowing half the battle.

Most things in life aren't awesome; no need to apologize.

Oh, I wasn't apologizing.  Just stating that I knew I wasn't being awesome.   Tongue
Maybe you'll get your neighborhood creator in the next Sim City.  Sim City 500000, a combination of what didn't work in Sim City 4 and what everyone hated from Sim City Societies.

I'm still waiting for the Sims 2 Content Creator they promised us....  Roll Eyes

What do you mean?  We have the Home Crafter Plus and all it's useless wonderful  abilities.  And don't forget about Bodyshop! EAxis is nothing but dead dreams and empty promises.  And the best part is that they probably know this, they just don't care.
34  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Downloading Anything for sims 3 on: 2009 June 02, 05:32:24
just run the game from ts3.exe, instead of the launcher, and it doesn't even attempt to connect.

Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the game need to launch from the launcher if you're going to be using "official" EAxis custom content?  I thought that was the whole point of the launcher.  Well that and to install SecuROM.  But since I have yet to become curious enough to open the game with the launcher I have yet to even see what it looks like.

To be fair, your patience and optimism are under the category of "everything".

Oh and both are being challenged everyday.  If it isn't EA sucking the life out of something its the BBS sucking the life out of you.  A pox on their crappiness.

Speaking of sucking the life out of something, I was looking at the TS3 strat guide at work yesterday (didn't actually read it b/c I'm lazy and didn't feel like re-wrapping the thing) and it's a lot smaller than the TS2 base game guide.  I thought I was feeling like the game was missing things that even a base game should have.

Yeah, promised object/neighborhood editors will either not come or will suck horribly (and/or will be for sale in the Store; -shudder-)

I don't think EAxis is capable of creating a tool that doesn't suck horribly.  Tongue
Whatever happened to "Challenge Everything"?   Roll Eyes

37  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: THE HORROR: The REAL TS3 Scoop As It Unfolds on: 2009 June 02, 04:18:26
This game is a bummer. I started out excited for it, and I became more and more turned off as I learned more about it. It's like everything else in life, I guess. First, I learn that the neighborhood is fixed and unalterable (an inexcusable step back to The Sims original)...

Actually, you can edit the neighborhood you just can't place lots wherever the heck you want.  I've culled the lots in one neighborhood and I'm working on creating a goth themed hood.  With all of the lots, and there's a crap ton, I actually don't mind not being able to place lots where ever I want to.

The thing that'll drive the nail into the coffin for me is the lack of potential for custom content. Will CC creators be able to put mods, textures, and meshes into neat little package files?

I imagine that real CC will find its way into the game eventually.  EAxis' Maxiod Whomever has stated that there will be an "official" CC tool, which I'm assuming if for the "official" version of the game.  I wonder how many more times I can say "official".  If you think back it took some time for CC to make its way to get into TS2 and even longer for quality CC to make its way into the game.  I'm sure EAxis won't be releasing (what I think is) an awesome modding tool like the ones Bethesda releases for ES or Fallout, but maybe it'll be useful to modders in creating a quality CC tool.

I say you just arr the game and decide if the game's worth it.  If you don't like it then you didn't waste $50, if you do like it then you can still not waste $50 or you can wait for the price to go down to something reasonable.

Has anyone else noticed how psychic these sims are?  In TS2 you could have a husband cheat on his wife in another room of the house and no one would ever be the wiser (unless they're woohoo-ing of course).  In TS3 the wife will storm to whatever room the husband is in and berate the guest for being rude.  The babies seem to have also inherited this psychic ability because when the husband moved in on his target again the baby got a negative ML because he (apparently) caught his dad cheating.  He wasn't even on the same floor, much less the same room as his father but I guess he's just sensitive to lewd behavior.   Roll Eyes

When you take pictures in game, do they end up okay quality, or are they as crap as TS2? It makes great graphics cards look rubbish =P

The quality is a lot better than TS2, IMO.  If you head over to here, you can see some on the "Share pix/vidz of the HORROR here" thread.
