TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: My sims complain a lot on my home business

Mine tend to complain about an employee when that particular employee goes on break. I guess, according to the customers, they aren't allowed to take breaks?
They also complain about things that they themselves did. For instance, a shopper comes in and kicks one of your flamingo's over. That sim is going to complain about the flamingo laying on the ground. Another example, a sim comes over and eats a hot dog that you made for customers. That sim will now complain about the empty plate that they left on the ground or table.
WTF, I say. Bad sim! No doughnut!

My question is: Why is it necessary to have an extra 120+ megs of locale files on the user's machine when there is only one locale in use? It's not like the user will one day decide to switch from English to Japanese on a whim.
Regardless, I replace all of those silly simlish music files. It's just the same songs over and over and over and over.

Ah ha! So that's the trick to painting the platforms. Thank you for that tidbit of info.
Now if I could figure out why, sometimes, when I put a new floor covering on, a part of the platform will disappear. You can't see it unless the camera is at the right angle but when you do, you'll see the ground beneath for some reason. It's hard to explain I suppose but it tends to happen when you use the 45 degree angle platform tool.

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Best Nvidia Driver for OFB? Anybody know?

Yeah, the 8 series was causing video resets which, at times, would last up to 5 minutes. I suspect it also lead to the demise of my MX440 after which I purchased a 6200.
Now, I assumed the 8 series were no good for me because I was using an older card so I installed them for the newer 6200 card. No dice. Video resets and poor performance. Rolling back to 7 series drivers does the trick.

These LTW's are all wrong which makes the majority of the list incorrect:
Max 5 skills (should be 7) Have 10 children abducted by aliens (doesn't exist) Become Cult leader (Paranormal career) (doesn't exist) Become ecological leader (Natural scientist career) (doesn't exist)
Graduate 10 children from college (should be 3) Have 10 grandchildren (should be 6) Marry off 10 children (questionable)
Woohoo with 10 different sims (should be 20) Have 10 simultaneous lovers (should be 20) Become visionary (Artist career) (doesn't exist)
Have 10 simultaneous best friends (should be 20) Become cult leader (Paranormal career) (doesn't exist) Become Icon (Show business career) (doesn't exist)
Go on 100 first dates (should be 50)
A note on the career LTW's, the careers exist if you have UNI but the LTW's aren't there for them.

Well, following the chain of expansion packs, doesn't it make more sense that a vacation-style expantion be next?
Where are we? Colledge (work) -> Nightlife (fun) -> Business (work) -> ?
All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.
Sorry.
Pets? Gimme a break. Sounds more like an add-on to me and I can see the irritating wants now:
Sleep with rover on the bed. Pet Rover. Play fetch with Rover. Teach rover to play dead. Sick Rover on zombies.
You don't really want that, do you? OK, well maybe the "sick rover on zombies" want at least.
Speculation, all speculation. Hell, I might just be bored with this game before the Fall anyway.

This works great. Very little attention needs to be payed to, well, anyone.
Question: Would this prevent interactions with the reporter NPC? I had one pop into the shop and do that stupid "I don't know where anything is" action and when I tried to "May I help you?" it would immediately drop out of the que. At the time that this happened, there were no other salespeople on site.

Understood. That's one of the reasons I don't play that goofy aspiration. As funny as it is, it gets irritating after a while. Of course, I don't think it was intended to be played through a full life cycle but I may just try it some day. Maybe he/she could run a grilled cheese resturant.

Not a bug, but a funny oversight (?) by developers. Robots: Cheerleaders and Llama mascots cheer to them, Cow Mascots try to pester them. Sims will sometimes walk by them and do the "you're ugly and you turn me off" animation. And the robots have thought bubbles over their heads while they work (they have the Family aspiration). Robots, family...hmm, the "Maximum Overdrive EP" is coming soon? Who made who? Sims be doomed!

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Help me install the game on an external hard drive
|

I can't remember if maxis allows for custom installations or not, but if they do, you'll want to select your remote drive as your installation folder.
If not, I'm fairly certain that the path data for the game will be written to windows registry and should you move the installation folder, you'll need to tweak those entries before the game will work otherwise it will look in c:\program files\etc. for its executables and data files.
I'm fairly certain that they don't allow remote installation since you're only allowed to use the game on one machine and running from a remote share would allow more than one machine/person to play. It would require a significant amount of registry hacking for sure.
