Uh huh, and they are being trained.  In the meantime, they can stay the frell off the beds since sleepclock doesn't auto-shoo on a call to bed.  Any time they're caught up on counters, the sofa, etc., they get scolded.
But cats are supposed to get on counters and sofas. Plus "using a sim bed" is a seperate behavior from "getting on furniture". And that's an excellent idea. I'm glad I thought of it.

Cheesy Yeah... I'm glad you thought of it, too.
52  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: Authorized Personnel Only Security System v5.0 on: 2007 March 15, 23:27:41
try shift-clicking and pushing "Set Route Blocking". That's the experimental option to attempt to make the room invisible to people not allowed.

I've done that, and haven't noticed any further like behavior... so far.  I'll keep watching it, or maybe set up something ridiculous like a cube room with a door, an APO, and a bubble blower or other high attraction item.

First of all, you need to have your sims *train* the cats to stay off furniture. There are hacks that can do that for you if you aren't patient enough to do it the normal way.

Uh huh, and they are being trained.  In the meantime, they can stay the frell off the beds since sleepclock doesn't auto-shoo on a call to bed.  Any time they're caught up on counters, the sofa, etc., they get scolded.

The point was not about cats being on the bed (though that is why I slapped an APO in that room).  It's about the contents of the room not being invisible to denied sim-beings.  Hopefully, the above debug thing will "make it so."

Second, APO controls doorways, so you'll need a honest-to-goodness door to the room (or doors if you allow a sim to pass through it).

They are doorways, not arches, and not some other bizarre variant that isn't a door.
53  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: Authorized Personnel Only Security System v5.0 on: 2007 March 15, 09:06:15
Mightily confused.  There's a bedroom with two single beds, a sleep clock, and an APO.  I put the APO in to prevent the damn cats from sleeping on the beds and forcing a sprog to pass out on the floor or kip on a couch.

The APO was set to Deny->Everyone, Override->2 Teen Sims (that use that as their bedroom), and Locked.

My question is, since I'm just not getting it... should the APO be making the room invisible for anyone not permitted?  Like, adult father-type sim won't ever want to autonomously make the beds in there since he isn't allowed?  (Which, of course, he's been doing, but can't make it through the door.)

Or is this simply denying them when they get to the door?  Adding Deny->Autonomous didn't make a difference, so I'm assuming at the moment that it's just a plain yet fancy lock, and not something like the Myne doors where they vanished the room contents to prevent envy?
54  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Bathroom envy on: 2007 March 08, 20:41:34
I thought it was normal for some reason.  Pretty much any time a person uses the loo, everyone on my lots gets that thought bubble.  It's like they're all complaining that not only is the room in use (because we all know that sims like to party in the bathroom), but that they expect the sim in question to break something, leave toothpaste in the sink, or miss the toilet entirely...

All righty.  I guess I'm going to have to work up the enthusiasm to beta test.
56  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Empty and Cleaned-up Templates. [UPDATED] on: 2007 March 05, 11:45:03
For the sake of argument... (And sure, if nobody actually knows the answer, I suppose I'll just have to be brave and test this myself.)

Assume that you've replaced the original templates with clean ones, and don't have any neighborhoods whatsoever (you've deleted the EA threesome or foursome).  That being said, the first neighborhood you create ought to be N001.  Also assume you have the noregen mods in place (at least for the creation process).

So you, the innocent simmer, decide to create in CAS a bunch of themed townies (Fairies, Potterverse, Anime, whatever) that you would like (should it be possible) to appear as defaults in any new neighborhood established.

You create them, moving a single sim onto a lot, and using that one to teleport the others out of the sim bin, and make every last one of the suckers into townies, ending with the original sim being transformed.  (One might be compelled to age certain upcoming townies down to bypass that whole nasty mess with editing relationships in SimPE that would have been necessary had you created CAS "families" with actual relationships beyond roomies such as required by including children).

You save, you exit the lot, and then exit the game.

In theory... you should have a set of N001 character files and a N001_neighborhood.package containing only what you just whipped up.  Maybe?  You then take these lovely files and drop them into the appropriate folders of the Template N001.  After launching the game again, you create a brand new neighborhood.

At that point, do you have the custom townies you dropped into the template alive and well in your new custom neighborhood?

back to this theory,  which i also saw in a documentary.. there was a second part of the postulation which i dont think was provided.. forgive me if i repeat something..  that the reason for the more emotive/feminine male attraction most of the time was because your best dna contributer does not necessarily make the best child upbringer.  in this way you would have the family-father with the more feminized features bringing up a mix of his children and children sired by 'warrior donors'.  he gets his mix in because statistically hes around more often for insemination.   this makes sense when you figure the warrior-donor is always running off to battle and getting killed.   yes up to a point skill matters but with enough battles you are going to see the attrition rate.   anyway it was a point i found interesting.

This reminds me of The Gate to Women's Country by Sheri S. Tepper.

Playing the Grunts, I have tank, buck and Ripp wants filled with they want to teach pet tricks to General Buzz Huh.

Revenge of the militarily oppressed progeny!  Take that, daddy!

Don't know for sure, just a thought: try to delete that head in CAS, it should be in the "Heads" section.

I'm not sure that's the point.

In any case, I'm interested in this myself, since the available number of templates isn't enough in my opinion.  So if there's a way to include more without having to replace existing default replacements, I'm all for it.

I perfer manly men with facial hair and chest hair.

For sure, so long as that doesn't translate to hairy backs!
61  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Why do so many people's male sims look like women? on: 2006 November 19, 05:52:32
Looking mean and intimidating is sort of the point. It scares off the predators. I even like my women to look mean and intimidating. You know, with teeth, spinities, and angry eyebrows.

Yes, but you're like.. a legend in your own mind.  Of course you want women of that sort.
62  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: ... I should probably try to fix this, but it's actually pretty damn funny. on: 2006 November 19, 01:04:07
Oh wow, this is like that one neighbor we had who kept a very... close... relationship with her german shepard.
63  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Why do so many people's male sims look like women? on: 2006 November 19, 01:03:00
And on a related note, I hate how pple love to bash on the skinny folks. There are lots of naturally skinny girls out there. LOTS. Just b/c America is so frigging HUGE doesn't mean that "real" women are chubby, and anyone skinny is automatically a sheepie drone who willingly starves herself to oblivion. I love how so many pple who say that "real" women come in all sizes seem to be oblivious to the fact that yes, real women do come in all sizes, on both sides of the size spectrum.

I find this hilarious considering I'm one of those more or less naturally skinny girls (and according to Pescado's reckoning, I'll be 36 for a few more years yet).  My aunt, who used to be thin, blurfed up due to a medical issue, and now keeps giving me the eye and asking my mum (behind my back) if I'm anorexic.  *gasps*

Related to the topic, however, I personally don't get a lot out of 'rugged good looks.'  I frequently think they look mean, or intimidating, or flat out unattractive.  Give me Cloud Strife (of Advent Children, naturally) any day of the week.  I tend to appreciate features that mix the best of both genders.  I mean, Arnold might have had a fantastic build, but I'd run in fear of my life if I was ever confronted with that monstrosity trying to get in my bed.

(Having said that, I've always gone for tall, thin, geeky blonds, but married a shorter, somewhat hefty, geeky brunette.)

Isn't that fixed by romanceurnstonefix over in hacks?

Hehehe.  And that's exactly what he purchased... a rabbit head.  They are possessed toys, after all, so it makes sense... right?
66  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Corrupted tiles in "Federal Fortress" house. on: 2006 November 11, 07:15:44
For what it's worth, mine do as well.

68  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Any one else having this? on: 2006 October 21, 15:52:32
How peculiar.  I had to use IE (cringe) to get that censor file, as Mozilla (SM) returned a file called "No" rather than the zip.
69  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: I'm new here, wondering about an automation feature! on: 2006 October 19, 21:16:29
A stupid question, but whatever.  Can the NPC routines from maids be piggybacked onto a normal sim, or is that unlike say... the cheerleader behavior which can be removed from one that's been married/moved into a "normal" family.

Go to:  My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Config\

Open userStartup.cheat (if you do not have one, create it as a text file and save with the shown extension).

Add this line:
boolProp allow45DegreeAngleOfRotation true

Save and close the file.

The next time you play, you can just select an object and use the period (full stop) and comma keys to rotate the item.

Examples of adding an alias to userStartup.cheat:

alias snapon "boolProp snapObjectsToGrid true" "Enables snap to grid"
alias snapoff "boolProp snapObjectsToGrid false" "Disables snap to grid"
alias cfeoff "boolProp constrainFloorElevation false" "Disables constrain floor elevation"
alias cfeon "boolProp constrainFloorElevation true" "Enables constrain floor elevation"

Right, I have seen clarification in other threads that perks are not lost via the "pass on" option.

I'm just saying he's "shared" with the rest of the applicable household.  I can only assume that the perk in question that causes this is from the rightmost column, and is either the third, fourth, or fifth available, since he may not have passed those around yet, which would explain why the others don't have this explosion of influence.
72  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Eh? Wants gone wonky. on: 2006 September 24, 13:45:36
I can dig that, but that sim has passed on his ... eh, maybe he didn't pass on those last couple from the right hand column.  The other three, yes.

All right, thank you.  I'll have to remember to look at that again next time I go in.
73  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Eh? Wants gone wonky. on: 2006 September 24, 13:25:05
Okay, so I did a search and all I noticed were references to things like video cards and lot sizes so...

The evidence:

Every want this guy has that gives influence has that same (x5) bit.  Nobody else in the household is affected, and it doesn't seem to be causing any problems, but it makes me wonder.

Has anyone else seen this particular phenomena?

Note: I haven't gone back in to check him again yet, nor have I forced an error, and I will provide an exhaustive list of my mods if necessary (that is, if I can remember how to redirect a directory listing to a text file so I can attach and/or cut and paste it in).

Edit: Whoops... should this have gone into the child board?
74  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Technical knowledge on LCD monitors needed on: 2006 September 21, 08:37:09
Well, for what it's worth, I'm using an AG Neovo F-419 LCD and I've never had any problems with it in conjunction with... well, anything, Sims 2 included.  And it certainly doesn't go all wonky when scrolling.
75  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Your Choice Image Editimg Program on: 2006 September 18, 01:49:00
PSP, v6 (v7 for certain features).  Other programs are too cluttered up with crap and seem to be designed by cruel, sadistic people.

I have v10, but haven't installed it.  Saw it, though.  I hate Corel, so...
