76  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Play Style: The Nitty Gritty on: 2007 July 18, 01:24:22

So with that in mind....

How do you play? Please include details such as:

- are you more into building lots, decorating lots, creating sims, or playing families?

I do a mix of those. I usually enjoy building and decorating, but sometimes it makes my brain hurt. I hadn't been playing regularly of late, until I started the MATY 'hood.

Quote
- lots: do you play highly decorated, with walls up/cutaway, with a focus on 'whoever has the most toys wins"? Or do you play barely decorated, walls down, with a focus on interractions/spawning?

I play with cutaway walls. I rarely use any money cheats. In the MATY 'hood, I've been a bit more lax on that rule. I've given Sims just enough to start in the house I want them to live in, with bare essentials. The house gets better furnished/decorated as I go along. I decorate and landscape moderately.

Quote
- is genetics your thing? Do you like watching spawns, and spawns of spawns for how they turn out? Or do you barely get through one generation before you're off to the next family?

I am a compulsive restarter. I'm going to try to play the MATY 'hood for numerous generations. We'll see. I get bored once Sims have more money than they know what to do with, have maxed skills, etc.

Quote
- do you build lots of hoods, or have you been playing one or two hoods forever?

I usually play one neighborhood at a time. Sometimes, I'll play two...Strangetown and whatever custom 'hood I have going.

Quote
- in terms of what your sims do: are you into relationships and interractions, or are you more into how they skill and climb the corporate ladders?

Depends on aspiration. Of late, I've been trying to keep some Sims from reaching the tops of careers to keep it a bit more interesting. I'm also trying to play in a more Sim-directed way. They only gain skills and such when they have a want.

Quote
- do you play lots of community lots, or are your sims homebodies?

My Sims are mostly homebodies. I've been forcing myself to use Community lots more, again, to add interest and variety.

Quote
-city/country/suburban?

Suburban

Quote
- do you do themes? (aliens, medieval, Victorian)

Not yet, but Marhis has gotten me tempted.

Quote
- do you play with pets?

Yes. I just recently installed Pets and am slowly getting into it.

Quote
- do you do the vamp/werewolf/alien/zombie thing, or are you more a 'real person' player?

I love aliens. (Laverwinkle aliens, FTW!) I've done both vampires and zombies and had fun with both. No werewolves yet.

Quote
- hacks: do you like to make life simpler or harder? insim? inteen?

I use fixes and hacks that handle annoyances. I don't use cheaty hacks at all. No Insim and no Inteen. One thing that I am using is Inge's Heirloom cake so I can age Sims when I want to. For example, my new thing is that Sims will become elders when their grandchildren become adults. I feel like that is a bit more realistic.

Quote
-custom content: lots or a little? what do you have the most of?

A fair amount. Mostly building and decor stuff, clothing, hair, and genetics, ie custom skins and eyes. I used to have a lot of custom meshes, but not so much anymore.

Quote
- and finally, if you share your creations...what do you create?

I build houses and lots. Nothing terribly fancy, but playable. To me, if a lot is pretty but a pain in the ass to play, it isn't worth it. I don't like to do a lot of camera rotation, so my lots are usually designed so that you can view the entire floor from almost any orientation. No enormous, laggy stuff, either. I have quite a few nice Starter homes up, along with 2X2 lots, and some fancier stuff.

The game assigns random friendships to townies just like it does for skill points and jobs.

1.95 for aesthetics. Your other entry is prettier.  Cheesy

Yeah, I think so, too.  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy
79  TS2: Burnination / Building Contest of Awesomeness / Re: NVA's Submission on: 2007 June 27, 21:43:37
Inge's reservable easels are a MUST in my game. (I am the one who requested them in the first place.) I almost always put the easels in bedrooms so that when Sims wake up, they have something constructive to do if I'm not paying close attention. In dorms, I either put them out front so Sims returning from class will paint, or stick them in the bedrooms.

The house is nice, too.

81  TS2: Burnination / Building Contest of Awesomeness / Re: Reggikko enters the fray on: 2007 June 25, 02:24:05

By the way, Regg, I thought the house was very cool, and aside from the massive amounts of high-maintenance foliage and missing fence/garage, there is not much I will change here.

Thanks. I don't usually put anywhere near that amount of greenery on a lot, but with aesthetics and such in the contest....shrug. Be sure to put a door in the master bedroom, though! Otherwise, PHAIL!!  Shocked
82  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Did I broked it? on: 2007 June 22, 18:31:56
While creating a custom neighborhood, the game paused to 'Create Pets'. Next thing I know, the game is gone and I'm on the desktop. I restarted the game and the secret Pets 'hood is in Pleasantview's spot in the Neighborhood start-up. I have Pleasantview renamed as per Jordi's tutorial, but did not install any blank templates because I'm just fooling around with Pets and don't plan on keeping any of this. I have to do some maintenence (reformatting the HD, and so forth). Anyway, will it hurt anything to play with things as they are? What caused it?

Unless it's not really Heg because Reggikko axe-murdered him.

84  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Stupid question about Downloads folder on: 2007 June 15, 22:22:50
I still don't get why people don't just create multiple sims 2 folders. I have a vanilla one - for testing, my cyberhood, a more traditional hood etc. I just rename the folders as needed depending on what I want to play. Much easier and quicker than swapping users all the time. Mind you, I am the only person on my PCs so I boot straight to the desktop, so don't bother with the welcome / login screen.
* reggikko nods

That's what I do, too. it's the easiest way for me to switch between building (totally clean), challenge (somewhat clean) and regular (chock-full-o-crap) configurations.
85  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: Anti-Date Flowers on: 2007 June 15, 03:47:40
I didn't realize this annoyed people.. I usually stuff the flowers in the inventory, so it helps to keep track how many dates they've had. Useful with Pleasure who date their spouses Tongue

Some of us have had a problem with Sims getting stuck in an endless loop when delivering flowers.
86  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: Anti-Date Flowers on: 2007 June 15, 03:46:08
* reggikko now sees the compatibility and feels like a dumbass

Thank-you, O Awesome One. Will this work for those of us peasant-type people who have everything up to OFB, but do not have ZOMGPetz!!!!1111one!one! or Seasons?
See manual.

I did see manual and I see nothink!

89  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Never-ending flower delivery and some other random crap on: 2007 June 10, 14:00:22
The new shiny is currently being tested by the Fat Gwilly One and will probably be stamped for public release later today.

Excellent! Now we need an "object in use", ABORT, ABORT! hack.
90  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Never-ending flower delivery and some other random crap on: 2007 June 10, 03:56:26
I pause just as they finish the placing and put their hands over their heart...then go into buy mode and delete the offending object.

That's what I have been doing, but it borks the Sim. They can't be interacted with and you cannot queue up macro-type stuff on them.
91  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Never-ending flower delivery and some other random crap on: 2007 June 10, 03:54:45
The only way i've found to break that loop,  is to que up something else for them to do, then cancell that cue at the end of the next loop.  For some reason, that seems to break them out of it.

Thanks, I'll give that a try.
92  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Never-ending flower delivery and some other random crap on: 2007 June 09, 20:24:59
Five times you say? Hmmm. Maybe I'm being impatient and acting too soon. I'll have to check that. Thanks!
93  TS2: Burnination / Building Contest of Awesomeness / Re: Reggikko enters the fray on: 2007 June 09, 17:06:23
What mechanical flaws?
94  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Never-ending flower delivery and some other random crap on: 2007 June 09, 17:02:31
If I have two Sims who live on the same lot and they have a date, when the Sim goes to deposit the flowers after the date, they become stuck in an endless loop of putting down the flowers. I can delete the flowers with move_objects, but then the Sim cannot be interacted with, nor can I click on the Sim itself for Macrotastics and the like. I cannot shift-click to force an error. All I can do is delete the Sim from the lot and reload. This problem started when I got OFB, I think. I do not have Pets or Seasons. No error message is produced.

Second problem. My Sims seem suddenly to be obsessed with using objects already in use. For example, Sim A is taking a bath. Suddenly, Sims B & C want to clean the tub while Sim A is in it. No one is stargazing. I send Sim A and suddenly I notice that Sim B is heading for the telescope. Same with the piano. It's like a copy-cat syndrome or something.
95  TS2: Burnination / Building Contest of Awesomeness / Re: Reggikko enters the fray on: 2007 June 09, 16:46:02
What probably happened is that I was changing out doors and forgot to replace that one. I spend a lot of time dicking around with decor. When I put the Curious brothers in, I pulled out all expensive features so they could afford it and probably never noticed that that room lacked a door because I was replacing all the doors. You know, mass delete and replacement. Who knows. I had a brain fart. There is, in fact, a door to that room in my game and Pascal sleeps in there every night.

Just slap a fricken' door in there, Pescado. I really forgot the door?

It's a 3X3 lot. Sorry for not saying so. I've been playing this house with the Curious brothers. It plays extremely well. Smiley

Everyone, please indicate somewhere in your post which Ep's and stuff packs you have. I didn't think to ask before installing a lot and my game crashed/froze. I had a few very scary moments there. Thanks!

This is actually pretty cool. I think Sim Pescado has a new home.  Wink
