476  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: HUZZAH! Banned from Rentech.com! on: 2005 July 21, 13:14:21
Both, you and Rentech,  had a widely different opinion on how a site should be run, that was a dead give-away.
As I pointed out, I have an intense dislike of censorship, but I do like civilized discussion about issues at hand. Being told to take it or leave it will usually result in my "leaving it".

Exactly my feeling. The modders are great. Being able to download things is fantastic. BUT, it's the community that makes or breaks a site. If people bring up a valid concern, and do it in a mature and civilized manner, it's not good business sense to tell your customers they can like it or not, that you don't care either way. That comment *really* rubbed me the wrong way. In my real life I often talk like a sailor when in close company, but I am mature enough to understand the concept of decorum. And if the avatar truly had been "adult content", I would have said, fair enough. But the fact that it wasn't and then rentech wouldn't even give a reasonable explanation as to why she removed it, well, I just can't stomach that sort of heavy handedness or that attitude.

Pssh. Snow is good. In a few years when global warming causes everything down south to BURST INTO FLAMES from the sheer heat, up here it'll still be quite tolerable. THEN who's going to be laughing, hrm?!? Besides, what's the value in going out in short sleeves? You can be just as comfy going out in FULL BODY ARMOR, when it's cold, and be better protected, too. You should ALWAYS wear body armor!

Well, if I'm burninated I won't be around to be jealous, now will I?  Wink And we laugh in the face of global warming down here. If global warming is accompanied by lower humidity it's bound to be an improvement.
478  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Better Use of the SimVac? on: 2005 July 21, 02:32:21

That's a great idea, why didn't I think of that? I never used the SimVac because..., well, because it just didn't seem right to steal someone else's skills (yeah, yeah, I know, I'm a wuss Smiley). However, I will use it on the coach and those idiotic professors with pleasure. Not only do they bother my sims, they bother me, I find them simply obnoxious. I can now play Uni again, it sounds like this is fun (I haven't played it in a while, it bores me to tears).

I can only play Uni with Pescado's clock. Otherwise I feel like I am somewhere in the depths of hell. I had that guilt feeling with the Sim Vac, too. I don't ever use it on playable Sims. It just doesn't feel right. I'm a wuss, too. Smiley

How is it going down there Reg? You must be positively baking; stay cool, have an Ice Tea (sweetened ofcourse), and pour some enhancers in it.

G.

It's hot as blazes, but that's nothing new. Fortunately, everything down here is air-conditioned and it's a comfy 72 degrees in my house. But I'll take heat over snow any day. When I can go outside in short sleeves in February you'll all be jealous.  Wink
479  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Better Use of the SimVac? on: 2005 July 20, 18:19:08
You'd think they'd be able to max out their Body Skill Points from the coach!  Obviously, they aren't actually any good at their jobs, which is why sims who give in to their yelling and start working out don't actually get any fitter!

She already had maxed body thanks to the Obstacle Course. Come to think of it, though, I don't think I've ever gotten a body point from a coach. Interesting.
480  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: How about a "don't eat the rotten food, you moron" fix? on: 2005 July 20, 14:49:31
It definitely works, except I've noticed really greedy, lazy ones do still eat it, just as the greedy lazy ones go on eating after they're full, and get fat, so are always having to work out!  (Bit like us humans, really!)

Yes, if a Sim is sloppy enough that they will eat out of the trash, they will still eat rotten food. The hack works for visitors and Townie dormmates as well. It even works if the food goes bad while they are eating.
481  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Better Use of the SimVac? on: 2005 July 20, 14:45:48
I don't get the Sim Vac at all. (So I don't use it... I find that way I don't mess up my game Wink )

Ok, say my Sim has 4 cooking points and he sucks the skills out of a Sim with 2 cooking points. Does that mean he now will have 6 cooking points, or does the fact that he already has more than 2 cooking points negate the effect and leave his skill total the same?

 Huh

Uni+Sim Vac+Irritating Coach=A good thing. Uni is the only time I really use the Sim Vac. When the coach comes to yell at your Sim, you have the prime opportunity for lots of free skill points if your Sim is not maxed. I only use it in Platinum. Last night my Sim maxed out her charisma, cleaning, and gained several cooking points from the coach. I also topped off her Platinum at the end. The thing about the coach is that he won't leave after being vacced. He'll just run to another part of the dorm so you can repeat the procedure many times. I emptied two Sim Vacs on him. I did have to take a short break during the shrink visit.

You get one skill point per use of the Vac, which is good for 5 uses, and it's random. It does not matter if your Sim already has more points than the suckee. My next victim will likely be one of the irritating drama professors that visit at random. If you show up uninvited, you're fair game. Besides, it's fun. Wink

Speaking of Asp. points....Is there any way to pool them in the game? IE, sometimes, especially when first starting out, an individual Sim may not have yet accumulated enough points for something, but two together would.
483  Awesomeware / Playsets & Toys / Re: Ghost Buster - Anti Ghost Device on: 2005 July 19, 11:34:53
In theory, yes. It's a standalone object with no overrides.

I like this a lot. I like having ghosts about but it'll be cool to have "safe zones". I also like that you make people pay a reasonable fee to have convenience. It removes it from the outright cheat category.
484  Awesomeware / Playsets & Toys / Re: Ghost Buster - Anti Ghost Device on: 2005 July 19, 11:26:12
Would this be compatible with Jeff's Ghost hack?
485  TS2: Burnination / The War Room / Re: Factoids and Statistics on Skill Gaining on: 2005 July 18, 23:57:33
I noticed for the first time this weekend that the obstacle course is unavailable to pregnant sims, a male in my case, although he could use the exercise machine.  I guess Maxis decided that all that falling down wouldn't be healthy for someone who is pregnant.

Vicki

Yep. Pregnant Sims can't be instructors on it, either. Annoying since all they do is stand there.
486  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: The Email Challenge...Because Those Other Challenges Are Boring And For Wusses! on: 2005 July 18, 10:41:57
You could still use him as a genetic donor...well, except for his overwhelming laziness. That's not really such a great trait.

Hmm...I could tie that in with both my plans for a second Email family in Strangetown and my upcoming Curious "Legacy". Great idea.

What, Reggikko, no dumpster diving? That's pretty dirty business and my female child does that instead of running the obstacle course if her fun bar is full.

My founder brought Lazlo Curious home from work. After a while, Lazlo went and ate out of the trash. Too bad he's:

1. Male
2. A Playable character

He'd have been a perfect mate.

I have tried this challenge twice and now feel utterly indaequate cos I haven't figured out a way to make a female sim who doesn't have accidents.  Huh

There are several ways to avoid it.

1. Keep them in gold or platinum and Energize as needed.
2. Get them to at least 3 Logic points so they can meditate. This works well to have them hold off until work. *Especially helpful during pregnancy!
3. Have them change jobs a lot so they go to work every day.
4. If they are sloppy enough, they'll pee in the shower. Buy the expensive shower and have them workout first to get hygiene as low as possible.
5. Acquire a ghost. Be careful, though. That's how I accidentally killed my last one.
489  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Board-Warming Party! on: 2005 July 17, 06:09:18

Don't diss wild boars? Have you ever seen one of these brutes in action? They attack just for the hell of it, they just like to wreak havoc. A friend of mine told me that a mortally wounded wild boar attacked their high-stand and kept at it for at least five minutes before it finally realized it was already dead. If you can't kill them with a single shot, you better be a very fast runner, a good climber, or an exceptionally calm person so you can shot it again and do it right this time, otherwise you're dead. May I recommend a tank for boar hunting purposes? Tongue

G.

We have those types of boars down here, too. They are the meanest thing that ever lived. A group of them used to terrorize an apartment complex's dumpsters. One night a group of my friends were going home when one of the boars attacked their car. When he was done, the car looked like it had been involved in a major collision.

One of my dogs is a Catahoula hound (the Louisiana state dog). They're called "Hog Dogs" because their original purpose was to bring these boars down. And these things are not little Babe-like pigs. They are as big as bears and much, much more ruthless.

You may be interested in the LTW tweak, also. It makes LTWs make more sense relative to the sim in question. Smiley

I am interested in it. How and when would we be allowed to use it in the challenge? I guess I haven't been clear on this. I know we can reroll on the teen transition and after completing Sophomore year in college. Can newly created or newly acquired Sims be rerolled? I know you said I could do it with that 6 Grandchildren want, but wasn't sure if that was just a special circumstance.

The Waterloos just gave birth to twin boys. Yippee-Kai-Yay!

When I recently played a Uni student, I had her go on fast forward to get her grades up, used the clock to take the final, and was done with her entire Uni experience in about 2 1/2 real play hours. It was awesome.  Cool

Official restart has commenced. I redid John Waterloo and moved him onto a lot in Strangetown. Stats: Knowledge. Gemini. 0 Neat/10 Outgoing/10 Active/2 Playful/3 Nice. LTW=Chief of Staff.

He just married townie Margaret Howe. Stats: Fortune. Scorpio. 6 Neat/5 Outgoing/8 Active/3 Playful/3 Nice. LTW=Criminal Mastermind. She came with a fair assortment of skills and was in the Business Career. She brought $18K and the Execuputter with her. Woohoo!

Yeah, I need a new one. I had a great pic that I was going to use, but I lost it in one of my recent clean-ups. I'll get something up soon.

And I do like your picture. Smiley
494  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Board-Warming Party! on: 2005 July 16, 09:51:37

By the way Reg, talking about southern things, I just inspected one of your brilliant southern houses more closely. I'm getting ready to move a sim into it; how on earth did you get the porch to hang out over the water like that. I am simply amazed. I'm really beginning to wish there was more greenery available so you (cough) can build even more houses.

G.

::Blush:: The pole deck will do that automatically. Just start from land and drag it out as far as you want over the water.

I have a couple that are done, but I built them in my regular hack-filled game. I need to draw out the plans and build them in the hack-free zone. I kind of go about it in a backwards fashion. I don't draw up plans until after the house is done and I decide if I like it. I also need to go and take some pictures of Anne Rice's house. I've been wanting to build it for quite some time, but I want to make sure I get it right. Smiley
495  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Board-Warming Party! on: 2005 July 15, 22:08:25
While I'm at it, I'll just put this kudzu plant right over here so you'll have some greenery to brighten up the place.  Grin

I think Pescado's place is the one place on earth where kudzu wouldn't dare grow. And Greg, your southerness is showing.  Wink

And, of course, in grand Sims tradition, the story of an ongoing not-entirely-serious stab at the Email Challenge. I'm not posting the serious one, because I'm too lazy to take pictures of something that I don't find terribly funny.

Without a doubt, this site is and will be more awesome than all of us. It's all shiny and new. Glad you made it here in one piece, Fishman.
