If you can use s3pe, it could be simpler to open your .sims3 file in it, select all the SNAP or 0x0580A2CE files, and export them to files. You'll end up with hundreds of PNGs of Sim thumbnails. The younger versions of dead Sims' thumbnails might still be in there if you sort through them.
27  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: TS3 was to include weather. on: 2009 September 14, 23:06:24
Quite frankly, I want EA to make a lot of money off of this.  You see, if they make a lot of money, they will keep on making supplements and improvements to the game.  If they don't make money, the game dies.

EA not making money from making a good or improved game. They're profiting from the massive amount of money they shovel into marketing, which apparently "excuses" them from making any more than a functioning game that will visually appeal to their audience and impress game reviewers. Quantity over quality.

Feature hiding is only one symptom of the issue. I think most people are realistic enough to know they'll never get everything the first time around.

Where did you find that price? If it was at EBGames, they overcharge in Australia a LOT (I would know, i live in Australia)

Google. It's the full retail price, which you always assume EB would charge anyway. I'm sure they'd LOVE to scam their customers with $50 copies of TS2. I'd tell them to go and arr a Sims 2 Complete torrent and download the extras off their website if they so desperately wanted them.
30  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: What will be "The Sims 2" Remastered? on: 2009 September 08, 09:55:30
Or... what do you wait from "The Sims 2" Remastered?

The Sims 2 Remastered is another attempt from EA to take our money.

Unbelievable. It's priced at AU$49.95. You can find bargain-bin copies of this game for $5 to $10.
31  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: Name List Help? on: 2009 September 04, 07:53:06
What's the instance you *are* using? I don't think all zeroes would work.

Try using the FNV Hash converter in S3pe (under Tools) and hash "AbsNames", then copypaste that value into Instance in the Resource Details box. Change the first two digits after the X to 00 for the language code (I presume your game is English). Then see if it works.

Nitpick time: you mean trademark infringement. Can't copyright words.
33  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: TS3 was to include weather. on: 2009 August 31, 14:02:12
Well it explains why this EP is being pushed out pretty quickly. It's not surprising in the least though.

I think it just explains how they're doing it so quickly. The "why" is EA's desperate need for Christmas monies.
34  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: TS3 was to include weather. on: 2009 August 31, 05:25:08
TS3 was supposed to include the entire World Adventures thing, too. I saw references in the code to a moodlet for "Adventure", just like with weather and pets, meaning all these things were ALREADY in the game and were intentionally cut. We know they already existed because they are already solved problems, and thus the only reason they are not present is because they were intentionally cut to be resold seperately.

Lies & Propaganda of a different sort, eh? I'll be laughing when they refer to these as brand-new features down the track.
35  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: TS3 was to include weather. on: 2009 August 31, 00:51:46
I got these copied text files from two .ini files in TS3 from a friend.

You make it sound like some kind of conspiracy. Keep spreading the truth, man.

I'm more pissed that they got rid of NPC parties. There were supposed to be birthday parties and wedding receptions, as well as parties for babies and promotions.
36  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: Awesomod discussion/questions/helpful tips thread on: 2009 August 31, 00:46:16
or I will, at some point when I get around to it, create a simple crappy DOS utility to convert a simple NOTEPAD list into a nametable.

Chann already has a utility to convert a simple comma delimited csv file to a string table or vice versa:

http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=360093

The problem is it doesn't work with raw alphanumeric keys yet, so any new (non-default) keys have to be hashed individually. I will look into updating it when I have the time.
37  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: Awesomod discussion/questions/helpful tips thread on: 2009 August 29, 00:55:50
This isn't really the place to be explaining the whole process. I recommend you try Tiger's STBL editor on MTS. You should be able to open the STBL in that. All you need to do is change the keys so they follow the pattern I mentioned.
38  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: Awesomod discussion/questions/helpful tips thread on: 2009 August 29, 00:01:16
The space in the config is for you to enter a key or String ID. Whatever you enter will be the "prefix" that AM will use to load the names. For instance if you enter a generator key like "MyNames" in the MaleNameGeneratorKey box in the config the game will use the names with a key of "MyNames/MaleName:Name#" in the STBL (hashed, of course).

I am also curious about how to enter the name files in the Auto Config. I made my own replacements, but am not entirely sure how to add them in to AwesomeMod. In other words, I do not understand what the Auto Config is asking for. Also, I have all 3 (male/female/last names) combined into one STBL so I was wondering if I needed to change that. If anyone could help, that would be great. Thanks!

I'm sure they would work as one STBL as long as the different names were set to the appropriate keys.
39  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Pudding Factory / Re: Less Blue Nights / Longer Shadows on: 2009 August 26, 21:46:27
Nice mod (I never realized how BLUE the default night lighting was!). I recommend that you follow Rick's instructions here and package the INI files so they will work with future patches.
40  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: Awesome Story Driver Beta-Testing reports on: 2009 August 24, 12:50:31
I just noticed one married Sim with TWO ex-girlfriends.
That is normal. Sims tend to initially start out playing the field a bit, otherwise they'd deterministically settle into their best relationship, which people think is boring. However, after they reach the commitment stage, the other relations are frequently terminated, to avoid the previous pattern of the retained relationships resulting in constant affairs.

Yes, I'm actually surprised and pleased at it. Grin There's no way you'd see that happen in Indie Stone or vanilla story mode. I hope to see an autonomous divorce soon.

42  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Objects I miss on: 2009 August 17, 10:47:41
I'm certain that they could have made neighborhoods customizable even with the lack of borders, but they designed the system stupidly and lazily, sacrificing user customization for superficially pleasing curvy roads. Making these neighborhoods customizable would require a lot of effort; it isn't worth the effort because they figure most players won't give a crap, and they are probably right, so go them!

I can't see why the default towns would not be editable if we had that custom hood tool. Unless they've put some special encryption on the default .world files, which would obviously be retarded, because they're already impossible for users to even edit at the moment.
43  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Pudding Factory / Re: More Fun Activities For Sims 3 on: 2009 August 17, 10:35:41
Out of topics. Do you casually know if Beds are global? I couldn't find the xml that says "Availablity: todldlers, children, teens, adults, elders - true or false". Reason: the highest required mod over here is to avoid that kids use double beds.
There is a "BedSleep" XML for that interaction, but I don't think it differentiates between single and double beds. If you change it, you might find kids will never autonomously use any bed.

I don't like it, some of my friends vomit if they see a kid in a double bed.

What, the kids in double beds or your friends' vomiting in revulsion at the sight of it? I had to ask.
44  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Pudding Factory / Re: More Fun Activities For Sims 3 on: 2009 August 16, 01:37:26

I was thinking of something like a Preferences or Settings utility that would be universal.  It might generate a mod XML but that would be transparent to the user and you wouldn't have to know its name.  You could have everything set up in a nice GUI app with the EA defaults that you could change as you pleased, all in one place.  Why have several different mods with different names that aren't terribly descriptive of what they do if you could have one app that does it all for you, all in one place?

If, then, you wanted to change something, you could just tell people what setting to change in the app rather than releasing a mod.

It's a nice idea. The tool would need to be well-supported though, in the event that patches update the XMLs, and tool-makers often come and go.

Sure, we could tell users to edit the values in the mods if they wanted to, but some users can't for some reason or other. Or have their reasons for not wanting to touch anything out of fear they might screw up their own games.  Grin

Funny, because XML tuning is incredibly easy to do once you get a grip on using s3pe and knowing how the mod framework functions. Still, sometimes you never realise you needed a mod until you see somebody's made one (like for children reading skill books).
45  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Pudding Factory / Re: More Fun Activities For Sims 3 on: 2009 August 15, 10:43:13
I wonder how hard it would be to make a single offline GUI utility that would let you modify all or any of those values and then spit out a single XML package that contains them all.  That way you wouldn't have to keep track of all the individual XML tweaks you have in your system.

Like morgade's Mod Generator?
46  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Pudding Factory / Re: Awesomized Neighborhoods With Cribs on: 2009 August 14, 02:24:43
@chann: Even if you destroy all humans the game will start to generate at least some new ones. How many depends on which story mode you are using. With ASM and EA you'll get minimal ones but still get some, particularly when needed like coworkers and such, but also just some townies. With Indie stone new sims will be making a run for the border to your town like crazy.

Oops, I should have been clearer. I meant the Riverview ASM Friendly save which has the premade families intact. I'm sure they were in the save and not generated by my game because they have because they have random EA names, and I'm using modded names.

I'm using ASM now and things have been quiet on the immigration front. With the new co-worker system it only seems to check if the active household needs new acquaintances, which makes it almost impossible to populate an empty town with a single Sim.
47  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: Indy Stone Mod development stops - News at 9 on: 2009 August 14, 02:12:28

Is there alleged communal ownership of property in the TS3?  No?  Well, then it's not communism.  It's definitely centralized economic planning, though.

Well, households are really communal units. Except for business deeds, Sims don't have any personal property rights at all. Everything belongs to the household. Just look at how easy it is to kick a Sim to the curb and render them homeless.
48  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Pudding Factory / Re: Awesomized Neighborhoods With Cribs on: 2009 August 13, 16:12:42
I do not the Riverview Hood in my game and it doesn't matter which one I download it never works in my game. I place it in the saves and it shows up in my game as an empty tumbnail. I can click on it and it seems to load. Soon after I get a message that something is seriously wrong with it and it recommend that I restart the game.
I know that Sunset hood has a very big file in the root game that seems to have all the elements necessary to fire the hood. All I get from this Riverview is a save game that never works.
What file is missing?  I could have got the Riverview directly from Store because I have 1000 points granted, but I cannot download because it seems that it requires the damned launcher that I do not use and do not have in this computer (the one connected to internet) that doesn't play Sims and does not even have capacity to play it.
Thanks.

You don't need the launcher to download Riverview; search for the links here, download it and copy it over to your other computer. The launcher doesn't have to be connected to the Internet to install it.

Also, I think a random (non-premade) household sneaked into the Riverview ASM save. One of the members is called "Chin-Han" which is a dead giveaway Grin. Anyway the household is called Wheatley and they are living in "Cyprus Villa". Did anyone else notice them?
49  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: 1.4 patch is now out on: 2009 August 08, 02:51:19
'Twas the phone-hack that led me here.

1.4 patch installed fine for me, even though I'd removed and backed up the EA families and lot library. For 1.3, I had put them back in to be on the safe side.

BTW, channTL's and my list are about 90% identical. I guess we used exactly the same source and just made different choices Cheesy

The majority of the male/last names I found in a baseball game Wink I used the census list as my first source though.
