Lord, I do hope not. Tight knickers are never good.

Love Amazon... Spend WAY too much, goddamn it! My loft is filled with books, and I have two bookcases full in my bedroom, and one in the sitting room. But still, I keep buying. What's wrong with me?  Huh Oh well.

Christmas? Bah... What really gets my goat is the relentless advertising aimed at the kids who become convinced they NEED the latest piece of plastic junk from *Matel (delete and add company name as wished), and that to deny them would be tantamount to abuse. I'm not certain who has the most psychological damage from it all anymore? Parents? Kids?

Point of distress: I took some of the youngsters I work with bowling about 3 weeks ago and the bowling alley had Xmas Trees (pagan symbolism  Grin) everywhere. Tacky, cheap and nasty. Plus it had the effect of making all the kids go instantly into "how long to Xmas?" and giving me greivous harm to the earhole! Sigh...

I believe JM's furnace is very deep underground, though!

About 4000 miles down, I'd say.

I just want to make a simple point about J.M. being in the altogether with or without beard... ewww! (Feel Certain you're a fine figure of a monst...er...man, she says as she carefully puts on lip guard and helmet.)

As for the underground furnace...? Hmmm, I'm wondering about other places deep in the bowels of the earth with similar heating issues?Huh  Roll Eyes

255  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Holiday Addon pack announced on: 2005 October 12, 22:15:25
While I could go for $10, I suspect the price will be $19.95.

Hmmm, and by the time it reaches Blighty I feel that it will have a mark up of £19.99. Not that I'm even remotely cynical about marketing, you understand.

By the by, bairy, are you the geezer from Brum in the UK? If so, which bit? I live in Acocks Green.

I delete the item. Control of sims should be rigorously pursued as the little deevils, left to their own devices, invariably cock up. God complex much?  Grin

Mendota: MTS2 was the best site for any piece of information for a great length of time, and I still go there to do just that, as well as for the downloads. I won't go to the exchange unless I really have to, and MATY is the only other Sims forum I'm even remotely interested in. Various Simmers has also gone down the pan somewhat, and there is a distinct air of bitterness about it... So what are we left with?

I really enjoy the discussions and repartee here. People are intelligent, thoughtful and witty, without being abusive, and that is my big gripe. You can make a point without resorting to adolescent name-calling.

Z.Z., where have you been? Good to see you back!
261  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: It burns! on: 2005 October 11, 12:37:14
I did think about making a complaint but decided never to bother posting again. I'm not interested in getting people banned, and can't be arsed with childish/abusive remarks about the level of my intelligence, knowledge, impartiality or otherwise. Unfortunately, after checking through a number of threads on the site I've been really disappointed as most of them seem to be random rubbish. I don't doubt they are enormously fascinating to those joining in, but it just don't float my boat. Perhaps it's just a reflection of the average age of the people who use the forums as they all seem very young, not that I'm decrying youth in any way as there are those who display oodles of maturity, or, maybe, not terribly well educated?  Wink My, that sounds horribly arrogant, doesn't it?

Chapter 2 is cool... and funny.  Grin

Your lad is a very talented young person, and we look forward to that site being opened!

All very interesting about MTS2, but I think I can speak for a number of us on this forum when our concern is about the migration of "fans" from the bbs/MTS2 to MATY, and the complete nonsense posted. It's drivel, without a doubt. I've also noticed this has been the case on the forums in MTS2, and I have been nuked on a number of times merely for expressing an opinion that did not concur with the people on that particular thread. At least here, if you do dare to express some rationale it will be discussed in an intelligent and adult manner. Or, you'll be ridiculed, but you have a perfect right to take the pee back and no-one will think less of you.

As for the new format... It is certainly very attractive, but it is also a pain to get round. And yes, I do indeed still use the old style pages.
264  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: It burns! on: 2005 October 07, 10:04:46
I loathe MTS2 now. Like so many here know, it used to be a good forum and you could find really excellent material. Now, the new interface is a piece of shite, and the forums are a complete joke. In my humble opinion... lol

J.M., please don't let the wassacks (not all are) in Retardo Land attempt a takeover...I implore you. It's scary in there sometimes, and crash helmets are the least protection you require. I'm considering investing in a full-on bio-hazard suit with matching body armour.

266  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: My Sims are addicted to the poker table, much like the kicky bag!!!! on: 2005 October 07, 09:36:46
I noticed this too. I made the mistake of giving a table to one of my families as it seemed like a great idea...  Angry Stupid, stupid me.

Oh, has anyone else spotted how easily simmies are provoked into rage now. I've had several spontaneous fights when a sim has been followed just so the antagoniser can get the boot in. Did I laugh? Oh, you bet...  Grin

268  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: NaNoWriMo! on: 2005 October 05, 21:12:54
They most certainly do, and as a past writer of fanfiction (no slash, though), I can tell you it's a good way to start honing your craft. Some is shite, some, on the other hand, is better written than some of the so-called books that are published with regard to whichever show/film they represent... And a few fan writers have made it to the big time. True they aren't developing their own characters, but in other areas of pure entertainment and meeting the need of the public to devour some sort of material that incorporates their favourite characters, they do just fine.

As for writing at that kind of clip, I can only claim to have ever managed a thousand. Any more than that and I'd be screaming to go back and edit. It's then I'd get pedantic...  Wink
269  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: NaNoWriMo! on: 2005 October 04, 19:01:47
As a writing "hobbyist" and an avid reader, I'm a little ashamed I have never heard of this before!  Thank you for mentioning it on here.

I have no comment on the grammar vs. good writer issue as I am far from an expert on the subject.  The way I handle writing though is to write from the gut first and edit out any grammar issues second.  And always have a proof-reader; if you made the mistake once you will likely not pick it up as an error in future drafts.  To fall back on a writing cliche to further prove my non-expertise, I was always told that you have to know the rules before you can break them.  Well, I guess I did have a grammar comment lol!

I echo that sentiment. I've never heard of this either and will certainly give it a look.

As for the grammer debate? Well, as Renatus has pointed out get the donkey work done first, and then go over your draft as many times as you need to. The grammer can be ironed out at any stage; it's the ideas that are important. Oh, yeah, loved your links.  Grin

Nope, because this spanner hadn't thought of that. Duh.  Roll Eyes Thanks.
271  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Nightlife Nightmare on: 2005 October 03, 18:29:42
Well, I bit the bullet and purchased a copy of NL. It came whilst I was away in London so yesterday I unwrapped the shiny little beggar - after carefully removing the downloads folder - and installed. Voila! Not a single hitch. It ran beautifully, and all my sims, houses and what nots... still there. Too damn good, I thought, so put back in the downloads san hacks. Still running well and without a hitch. Now all I gotta do is check all my hacks against a definitive list and place them carefully back. Which is dull. Dull, tedious and dull...

The only issue I do seem to have is that the game seems to be really blurry. So much so that the sims in play don't look like they have hands but clubs. Nothing is sharply defined, and I've checked all my drivers (upto date), so I'm at a bit of a loss.
272  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Black & White 2 on: 2005 September 29, 14:02:44
Been thinking of getting this, and if it has any similarities to DK2 then that is definite! What a great game that is... properly panders to all my god complex.
273  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Hurricane Katrina on: 2005 September 27, 17:40:17
Nah, Judecat, we just ain't certain how to respond.

I think that government can be corrupt too, but it does it, in the developed nations, in underhanded ways and manages to convince you that it has your best interests at heart.

When you venture into the discussion of socialized everything, you're moving away at right angles from what I suggested. I'm talking about reducing the level of socialism in the welfare industry tremendously. The government would not tell people how to spend their money or create industries to support them. (Another flaw in the plan: some small percentage of the human population are not able to make purchasing decisions for themselves. That's another baby we'd want to keep when we toss out the bathwater, but at a tiny scale compared to what we do now.) Instead of establishing free clinics, pay the money directly to the people and let them make their own decisions about where to go for health care. Instead of soup kitchens, let them decide where to buy their food. Instead of of public housing projects, let the people decide how to spend their housing dollars.

The key point here is that I have more faith in the average individual's ability to make these decisions than in the government's ability to decide these things for them. I also have much more faith in private industry to provide safe, comfortable housing, quality medical care, and good food and clothes at the best price.

Take housing as an example. If we make builders compete for those housing dollars, they'll build the best-quality housing they can for low-income families. With government housing projects, we have all sort of mischief and even worse added cost because of the burden of writing and enforcing extremely detailed government regulations. The trouble is that if the government does it, we need those picky regulations to determine a standard of performance for contractors. But if private enterprise builds the housing, then the people who will be living there will be the judges of whether it's the nicest place they can afford.

A Brit speaking here, so have been brought up with a Health Service which, despite having people moan about it, is second to none. The NHS saved my life, not once but twice, and has saved the life of many people. It has its faults - waiting lists, staff shortages, to name a few - but without it many people in this country would not be able to afford health care. For those of us who can afford it, we have the choice to place money into insurance and/or buy our health care wherever we want. The NHS is a safety gap that works damn well.

As for housing, well, you may have a point, but the price of property in the UK has risen so steeply that it is beyond the reach of most people to even consider buying a house. I live in a small, two bed-roomed mid-terrace built in 1905 and when I bought it 4 years ago the value was £60,000. It is now valued at £120,000. That's a pretty steep rise! I couldn't afford to buy a house in today's market; they're too damn expensive! God knows how first time buyers manage, and as for those on the lower end of the societal scale earning £12,000 pa, they haven't got a snowflake's hope in hell. Not unless old Nick goes to work on skis that is... And renting property is a dead end, plus you have the "added bonus" of the private landlord who likes to see the tenant living in squalor most of the time, but also likes rent in regularly and takes a massive deposit.

Builders aren't interested in anything except a profit, so I cannot imagine them building "best". It isn't true here, so why would they be more likely to in the States which is a far more machiavellian society than Britain? Mostly, all the bastards try to do is pass you off with shoddy goods.

Jeez, ZiggyDoodle, that's just bloody stupid! I concur with Azkar. Why do anything simply at all? Why not just follow the complete lunacy?

Thanks Bluecatvon, I'll give it a try.
275  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Request: STOP SWOONING OVER ROMANCE SIMS!!! on: 2005 September 25, 15:26:54
What peeves me about romance sims is the cocky strut they have just before sucking face. The face fanning is also irritating, come to think of it.
