MTS generally has the simplest solutions (they have to, because their policy is to cater to idiots).  If you can't follow their tutorial, I don't know what anyone else could do.  One of the many, many problems with TS2 was that new object functionality introduced in later EPs would only be applied to objects from that EP and the base game, and objects cloned from those objects had the same restriction.  Each EP acted like none of the others existed.  That was a problem that existed for the entire lifespan of TS2, and Lord Darcy created a series of mods to fix EA's content.

Later on, TS3 would fix this problem from the get-go with patches whenever a new game came out, but people still clung to TS2 and shunned TS3, even though TS3 has proven superior in almost every possible way.  Those people are fucktards.

It's hard to pinpoint exactly what's causing it, because a lot of different things can corrupt your save game.  Use the MTS Patch Downloader to make sure your game is completely patched, and check all your mods to make sure they are compatible with the most recent patch.  If you can't find a mod's compatibility information, toss it; some creators stop updating but leave their mods up, and then a new patch comes out, changes the things the mod affects, and the mod creators are nowhere to be found.  Use Delphy's Dashboard to check for conflicts, and install Twallan's Overwatch and Error Trap to catch some errors before they can corrupt your save game.  Watch out for core mods.  With the notable exception of Awesomemod and Error Trap -- which are two core mods that can work together -- you can usually only have one core mod per game.

Even hair and clothing mods can mess up your game if you're not careful.  Those weeaboo hair and outfit downloads are notorious for being sloppy and game-borking.  If you find you download a lot of giant hair helmets from Peggy Sims and her ilk, build a huge bonfire, toss your game in it, and then throw yourself after it.

I like how instead of giving us a curved staircase, they give us a deco item to make FAEK curved staircases.  Way to focus on quality there, EA.
