That was actually part of my test. reading a book at the Library is indeed Superior to reading a book at home. the test subject at the Library was even grumpy, sitting in a 10 mood chair and missing out on a Beautiful Vista Moodlet. He still maximized the test skill, Logic, before his brother at home did, and by quite a margin. 41.5 hours vs. 51.5 hours.

Each book you read increases the speed in which you read the next book. If this applies to skill books too, then switching to books after using the telescope may not skill as quickly as in your test.

Well the current status is "Love Interest"
So what's my next step?

Yeah it would say boyfriend/girlfriend if you were "going steady" It should be under the romantic menu when you get them worked up enough.
3  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Share pix / vidz of THE HORROR here on: 2009 July 19, 23:01:29
I just loaded up my game after having to reformat and reinstall.

I went into Sunset Valley to find this:

Near as I can tell, Riverview's terrain is showing up intead of SV but then the lots aren't there and through the holes I can see the SV lots. See the dome of the science center in the last one?

Has anyone seen this before? Any suggestions or do I just have to uninstall and start over again?
4  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Facts & Strategery / Re: Traits that matter on: 2009 July 18, 22:46:37
Natural cook is a tiny bit more subtle but they will never burn food and can save you a bit of money when keeping your sims happy with food related moodlets with the "kick it up a notch" interaction they get with meals.  It makes it very easy to get "perfect" meals out of less than perfect ingredients.

I don't think that is entirely right - I had a natural cook sim and early on, before he developed too much in the way of cooking skill, he cooked and burnt a meal.  I made the error of putting the leftovers in the fridge and the couple were 'bleughing' out over it for ages after he actually cooked the meal - every time they got a plate of it.  I think the last serving of it is still in there.  He's gone on to rataouille and more exotic stuff now.

Natural cooks can also learn recipes without buying them through socialization with other sims. I also read (I think it was on here somewhere) that they can learn the recipe from eating the meal.
5  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: Story Mode on: 2009 July 15, 17:33:19
I really love the way the awesome-mod allows me to play more then one household, but frankly speaking: its storymode "improvements" are not improvements, they are just removing the rather unsophisticated solutions to certain problems EA has built into the game.

Pescado has said before that he hasn't had time to really improve story mode yet, just remove all the stupid stuff from it. Have patience and we will see an New and Improved Story Mode from him in the future
6  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: Supreme Commander on: 2009 July 15, 17:25:44
Another player on another forum I frequent has been having the long save issues without any mods installed. She discovered that disconnecting her game from the internet before playing seems to stop the 20 minute saves from happening instead reducing to 1 minute.

Does your computer have access to the internet when you are playing?
7  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: The Sims 3 Expansion In My Head on: 2009 July 03, 19:21:08
I think some kind of Superstar expansion might be fun with the open neighborhood. It was kind of dumb before because you could only build stuff in the mini games blah blah, but now (in someone else's hands, not EA) it could be really fun!
8  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Pudding Factory / Re: Children can Garden on: 2009 June 30, 00:46:36
The children can learn gardening in the game without this mod. They can't actually garden but they can learn the skill. You need an adult with gardening skill and it is either 7 or 8 logic. They will get the option to tutor people. They can tutor children in not only gardening but also things like guitar.
9  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Sim of the Month Challenge on: 2009 June 28, 14:58:08
And eating well cooked meals makes them fat.

Actually it doesn't. Not unless you have them eat more than one in a row. They have to have the stuffed moodlet to get fat. The game doesn't make them fat if they continue eating past when the hunger bar is full anymore. The more often they get the "stuffed" moodlet the fatter they get.
10  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: TS3 - Anyone see a child skill building hack? on: 2009 June 28, 01:25:09

The block table builds handiness?  And I overlooked this (or is it simply not marked as such)??
Yep but not for toddlers just children. The pop up says something about how children that play with blocks grow up to be quite handy or something similar.

I only found out about the tutoring recently but now my kid has 4 gardening.
11  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: Awesomod discussion/questions/helpful tips thread on: 2009 June 28, 00:16:58
If you disable Supreme Commander, can you then uninstall AwesomeMod? I'm not planning on doing so anytime soon, but it would be good to know.

From Pescado's warning, it would appear not.  I suspect, from a very uneducated point of view, that Supreme Commander alters game files in some way that would cause VBTs if AwesomeMod were no longer present.

Quote
WARNING!
Supreme Commander is experimental and permanent! Once you turn it on, uninstalling AwesomeMod may destroy your neighborhood! Once you start down the path of the Dark Side, forever will it dominate your destiny.

(bolding mine)

I think as long as you don't use Supreme Commander AND SAVE you can uninstall just fine. I used Supreme Commander in one neighborhood, I quit and saved,  I started having problems with CTD, I took awesomemod out and real life called ..... anyway I started the game (loaded hood previously saved with Supreme Commander enabled)....... let's just say it wasn't pretty. Once you use the supreme commander, and save, it isn't a good idea to take it out, it's a VBT.

It is fixed as I didn't save after the bad load and things seem to be working fine, but as the RTFM states there is no going back.

I would make a back up of your saves folder just in case if you are unsure whether or not you want to keep it installed.
12  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Patch released. on: 2009 June 27, 01:32:01
Here's the entire "..\Game\Bin" folder, pulled straight off my CD, in two parts. Contains Sims3GDF.dll and Shaders_Win32.precomp. Decided to .rar the whole thing in case we get anymore problem files.

Part One: http://www.box.net/shared/ykuf4fkhl7
Part Deux: http://www.box.net/shared/u5zofkx1k9

Maybe the OP or BastDawn could link to this post so all the tards, noobs, and sheeple will find it right away since they won't read the whole thread?
13  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: TS3 - Anyone see a child skill building hack? on: 2009 June 27, 00:26:26
Children can gain other skills like guitar and gardening etc. You just need an adult with enough logic points to "tutor" them in the skill. And then the adults need some points in whatever skill they are tutoring. I don't see it mentioned in this thread although it is mentioned elsewhere in the forum, but the block table builds handiness skill for children as well.
14  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Facts & Strategery / Re: Choosing Sex of Babies on: 2009 June 25, 20:02:48
A slightly more significant issue is that the best breakfast, French Toast, contains apples and doesn't advertise it.

Huh, did you have apples in your inventory when you made the waffles?
How did "French Toast" become "Waffles?"  French toast, unlike pancakes and cobbler, won't take just any fruit.  It requires 2 apples and 1 egg.  The "use ingredients from inventory first" rule is irrelevant, French Toast always contains apples.

*Shakes head
I have no idea how french toast became waffles! Sorry!
I didn't realize you were talking about the ingredients rather than a flavoring! Like apple pancakes or apple waffles like I keep getting in my game.
15  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Facts & Strategery / Re: Choosing Sex of Babies on: 2009 June 25, 18:25:23
So if every sim and her dog can grow apples but watermelons have to be sought out, what does this do for the gender ratio in a neighbourhood where you make no attempt to control things?
I'm unclear why this particular bit has gone uncorrected for so long in this thread.  You can buy watermelons in the store, they're not difficult to obtain.  Sure, you get apple seeds for free when you reach Gardening 1, but buying or growing watermelons is hardly difficult.

A slightly more significant issue is that the best breakfast, French Toast, contains apples and doesn't advertise it.  If you're the sort of player who finds eating lobster for breakfast inappropriate, it's not hard to end up with only male offspring if you're not paying attention.

Huh, did you have apples in your inventory when you made the waffles? I have been wondering about that but haven't gone back in to test that. Whenever I direct someone to make pancakes, they make apple pancakes and I *think* it uses an apple out of their inventory. I have been meaning to check and see if they don't have an apple in inventory or the fridge if they will just make pancakes.
16  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: Awesomod discussion/questions/helpful tips thread on: 2009 June 22, 20:38:15
For me, it lags 2 or 3 times for 1 minute... then runs fine.  I'm sure it acts differently in different hoods/different computers.

I already knew about the lag issue but I do have a question about it. I was playing the same household of orphans for a couple of sim weeks (long enough for the toddler to be 2 days from teen) and the first few nights the lag was once at 1 a.m. for a couple of minutes. But the longer I played the game, the lags started lasting longer. Right now they happen every 5 sim minutes starting at 1 a.m. until about 3:30 a.m.

I haven't played with any version released today because I have been at work. But it did seem to get exponentially worse the longer I played. Has this already been fixed? Has anyone else had this problem?
17  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Pudding Factory / Re: Tuning mods - in testing on: 2009 June 21, 16:40:02
Using the blocks table as a child will give 3 skillpoints in handyness when they age up.

In addition if your adults have full logic they can tutor kids in other skills they can't learn until teen, such as gardening and guitar.
18  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Extreme difficulty in killing sims by fire? on: 2009 June 21, 15:44:02
My sim had the gold digger LTW- to see the ghost of his rich spouse. He decided to go after Crumplebottom, I tried fire twice it just didn't work either time, her whole kitchen needed replacing, but she never went up in flames. I had decided to just wait for her to die of old age, until stuff started to break. I had her repair the dishwasher, the trash compactor, and finally a stereo. She repaired the first two items with no problem and little skill, but got shocked by the stereo. It gave her a negative moodlet "singed" IIRC it said it would be a good idea to keep her from repairing things until this went away. I made her try again with the stereo while she still had the moodlet, it shocked her again and she died, the paper reported her death by saying she had been struck by lightning 27 times playing with a lightning rod or something.

Were you able to fulfill the wish? I have not been able to fill this wish even when it seems it should have filled. I have my sims talk to their dead spouses but nothing happens.
19  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Heartbreaker LTW question on: 2009 June 21, 15:42:29
Speaking of confusing LTWs, I've been playing the Shallow family in Riverview. Kurt, the eldest, is a widow according to his bio and he has the gold digger LTW. In the Riverview graveyard, there is a Sasha Shallow; I thought she was Kurt's dead wife and so sent him there every night to get a glimpse of her (and it took over a sim week to finally get a look at her, grr.) Anyway, it seems that either the relationship is borked or she was related to a different branch of the Shallow family because they had to be introduced and there was no LTW fulfillment, which is something that could have been brought to my attention YESTERDAY. Oh well, hopefully you will learn from my fail. Luckily, he's been putting the moves on Hannah Jones, so maybe there's time to make her leave Aiden, marry Kurt and kill her off before he kicks it.

I have the same problem, only I killed Tom the son, so that June could get her LTW and see his ghost. When he showed up... nothing. It said ex-husband when she talked to him and got no wish fulfillment. Is the unlinking at death to blame for this? I have a feeling this is an unattainable LTW. Has anyone succeeded with it?
20  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Facts & Strategery / Re: Story Mode: A Random @Toading: Congratulations to Draklixa! on: 2009 June 18, 20:12:24
There's definitely potential for event spam, but my concept confines information to the newspaper, which is where you already find out about most of these events anyway.  (Not to say that the paper couldn't do with some serious improvement, because it could).  But key events - deaths, births, marriages - should get a popup of some sort, at least for Sims to whom your actives are close.  Major life events don't happen every day, and there are rarely multiple in a single day, so I think major life event popups would be fairly unintrusive.

Well they do sort of have that, at least for deaths. One of my sims was friends with an elder through work and a week or so into gameplay, I got a pop-up that said "so-and-so is old and won't live forever" and a suggestion to go visit her. Then a couple of days later (after I had ignored said pop-up), I got one that said she had died. It doesn't do it for births and marriages, or at least I haven't seen any, but it will do it if a friend of the family is dying.
21  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Facts & Strategery / Re: Making Playable Ghosts on: 2009 June 17, 20:29:43
It took a while for me to catch the ghosts actually out. I don't like that they are only out from midnight to 5 am now instead of from dark to light.
22  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Facts & Strategery / Re: Story Mode: A Random @Toading: Congratulations to Draklixa! on: 2009 June 16, 22:08:56
I wondered that too. I don't mind a random death once in a great while to add something to the game. But it does it too often etc. Most of the ideas sound good in theory, if they had any kind of checks on them at all.
23  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: AWESOMEMOD & SCRIPT HACKS: CRASH ISSUES THREAD on: 2009 June 15, 15:11:11
I found that if I delete scriptCache.package, start up the game and let it crash at the loading screen once (generating a new file) it works fine on every subsequent start.

That is my experience as well. Every time I delete the caches it crashes on the next start, but runs fine when I try to start it again, and doesn't crash in game.
24  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Career Profitability and Perks on: 2009 May 28, 20:49:36
Is the Medical career's perk just being able to increase fun and energy while at work?  Those are pretty useful, but my first foray into The Horror was the science career, and being able to mess with almost all inanimate objects kind of outstrips "making people hate you" and "bed at work".

I don't know about the medical career but you can also sleep at work in the culinary career as well. I noticed it hadn't made it onto the list, but you can choose "sleep on prep table" and that will increase your energy while at work.
25  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: The Good, the Bad, and the Randomly @Toaded on: 2009 May 22, 04:06:47

And, my husband says I'm a she.  But that's ok, it's hard to tell.  Especially as I eschew avatars.  (it's a religious thing.)

Sorry! My gender observation skills seem to be way off lately. On S2C/MTS2 I made the terrible mistake of referring to Inge as a "he" (sorry, Inge, I lurk and don't pay much attention) and some annoying little twat got all in my face about it. (Honestly, I think that had little to do with why they got all bitchy, anyway. I think I have a "bother bother bother me" sign stuck to me on that forum).

The default gender in this forum is female until proven otherwise. You are not the first one to make the male assumption!
