TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: Pinstar's new Apocalypse challenge

I'm looking for a way to make Zombie Apocalypse more dangerous. At the moment, my zombies are just walking by the house, randomly kicking trash cans and stealing newspapers, but won't actually eat brains unless greeted. This is unrealistic (er, as far as flesh-eating reanimated corpses can be realistic). I would like them to invite themselves onto the lot without also having every other sim in the neighborhood invite themselves in, too (so that sims are forced to stay indoors with the door locked or have their brains eaten!). Are there any solutions?

*raises zombie thread yet again* I'm in a similar position, with updated apocalypse rules forbidding picking the 80% chance card perk, so the actual odds of the FT career chance cards do matter. I hate the way they seem to make things easier with every EP. It literally takes effort to get your sims into failure states or death. I haven't played a "normal" game in ages--it's always challenges.
When you can keep a sim alive on an empty lot; when your sim goes an entire lifetime without eating, sleeping, bathing, or peeing; when you can earn a million in a day, you know the game's gotten too easy...

I'm going to bump this once to see if anybody has any ideas about why I might still be having problems with SimPe. If not, I'll just ignore the memories and cheat my First Kiss picture.

That's a good idea Gwill... of course now I'm determined to figure out how to do this properly...
I must be missing something because whenever I go in to try to edit memories I see nothing but blank memories and gossip. In-game, the sims' memories are just fine. I think SimPe mustn't be reading them right but for the life of me I can't figure out what the problem is.

I'm trying to erase the "First Kiss" memory on a sim. I accidentally clicked the option and didn't get a chance to take a picture. I am assuming that erasing the memory on both sims will make "first kiss" available again; also that modifying memories is safe and something you can do with limited technical knowledge and SimPE.

I don't know, but I do know one of my sims spent a couple of semesters growing tomatoes in college and is still eating the grilled cheese she cooked (full cooking, mouthwatering tomatoes) on the day she turned Elder. There's Energizer use and dating screwing up the numbers, though.
You know what would be interesting, though--make it a contest scored by how much food you have in your sim's inventory after a set amount of time, maybe two sim years or something of that sort.

It looks really too easy... it doesn't restrict snapdragons, and once you have those, the rest of the restrictions go *poof* too.
I agree it's too open-ended. If I played this one I'd score it for one or two generations.

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: What exactly is wrong with Mrs. Crumplebottom?

I've read somewhere that the game treats her like an object. It makes sense to me; she really doesn't behave like a sim does. I was also advised that creaturefixes is absolutely necessary because otherwise vampires may try to bite her, which causes huge amounts of problems because she isn't technically a sim at all.

Ditto. It's very useful.
Does there exist somewhere a document with a list of hacks that are outdated for each EP? They can cause problems and a checklist could help.

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Boy sees dead people. Should I be worried?
|
on: 2009 February 24, 11:11:58

Yes, the death condition does change things, obviously, but then again, so does pregnacy, werewolf-hood, or any number of conditions a sim can have.
My theory is that dead sims, unlike babies, are not treated like objects but like actual sims... but I would have no idea how to figure that out.

It's not actually that scary. There's a bit of gore, yeah, but it struck me as more in the mystery genre than true horror. YMMV.
What exactly makes a sim "dead"? I don't mean the method of killing them off, but how the program tells--is it a token like "pregnant"? If so, does the game generally treat dead sims exactly like live ones?

I had a problem with my sim toddler still being marked asleep even after waking, so that nobody else could interact with it. I'd been letting the kid sleep on the floor... I solved that just by making the toddler the active sim and clicking "wake up" on it. Does "wake up" show as an option on your sims? If so it might be the same thing.

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Getting the damned caustics to work.
|
on: 2008 December 22, 23:47:56

No one knows what caustics are? It is a real word describing the phenomena when light passes through a liquid or glass.
The problem isn't that people don't know what a technical term in the science of optics means. It's that the word is more commonly used to describe corrosive substances, like sodium hydroxide. Wider-spread definition drives out more specialized meaning. I was imagining sims swimming in pools of deadly liquid... hehe

I don't think it would be that bad because the height differences would mess up all the animations. I hope. Anyway, you can do Peter Pan without any modification. They're fine as children, and you can have them living on their own if you add a teenage Wendy.

I'm not sure if anybody wants to add another layer of difficulty... but if you're moving Politics restrictions to Architecture, you could say that anti-discrimination laws have vanished; and sims are limited from birth to certain careers by their social class or caste or whatever odd reasoning people use to divide people into categories...
To select the allowed careers for your sim, before he ever takes a job, look at that day's newspaper. The three jobs there are the only careers tracks he can ever enter. Remember that if the Journalism restriction is still in place, he can only enter one of those three career tracks if that job is the first in the paper (or on the computer if Science is lifted.)
I don't know if that's too restrictive. It would certainly make the whole challenge harder; but I've seen people lift all the restrictions in four generations before... maybe it needs to be a little harder. You'd balance spamming babies and hoping they got the right careers against having too many babies before somebody got lucky enough to lift culinary restrictions.
Oceanography should ban swimming and ponds as well as beach lots and fishing.
