51  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: OK, so why would I want this mess? on: 2009 May 29, 17:54:52
Honestly, I mostly like the new gameplay mechanics.  Of course, I only ever play one family at a time anyway.  I like that the neighborhood ages with me now.

People keep saying that, but in your game did no family every have more than one child that grew up.  I take it you just moved out surplus kids and deleted them?  No one got divorced or broke up?  If they did, again, the Sim who left was just bit-garbage?  I'm sorry, but I can't imagine deciding to play only two Sims for the life of the game.  It would get so fucking boring.....
52  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: OK, so why would I want this mess? on: 2009 May 29, 17:44:41
EA has given TSR some sort of perk which has allowed them to make their own content creator. (Which accounts for a good chunk of the remaining 19.56% of the reason I'm avoiding this turd.)

While I suspect this thread will be nuked, I'm curious exactly why you think the above is true.

Well, I admit that posting this topic is partly a way to cut through about 9 million contradictory posts on this and other sites--especially those made during the 3 days I couldn't access this site at all--and get some actual answers, I got this impression from the announcement by TSR as quoted somewhere or other and the commentary in the topic on this forum.  If it's wrong, I guess that's one positive note.

Having been invited, oh so politely, to fuck off and die on N99 for not joining in the cheering section for Sims 3, someone give me some reasons to not think it's a total waste of hard drive space.

I have gathered from this forum that:

You're stuck with balloon faced Sims.  And second generation Sims are even worse.
You're stuck with nasty dead-looking eyes.  (About 80% of my reason for thinking I'm going to hate this.  All I can think of when I look at them is a Victorian porcelain doll in a horror movie.  You know the one that tries to strangle the hero the minute s/he falls asleep.)
The Story Progression Toggle is either borked, not borked, or works for a while and then stops.
You can only run one family at any given time because the game will randomly delete them if you run any other family.  This problem is either fixed or not fixed by aforesaid SPT depending on whether it's borked on purpose or not.
Most of the game consists of chasing all over the open concept neighborhood collecting stuff which has no use in the game other than display.
Relationships are either too easy to make or too hard.  Or both at once.
All public areas are rabbitholes.
EA has given TSR some sort of perk which has allowed them to make their own content creator. (Which accounts for a good chunk of the remaining 19.56% of the reason I'm avoiding this turd.)

So. Anyone want to address the .44% that still thinks I might buy Sims 3 once the price drops to $1.98 US.
54  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: What would you call a Sims3Pack editor? on: 2009 May 29, 16:18:57
You realize that it doesn't matter what you name it now.  Pescado will refer to it as jfadetool anyway.
55  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Story Progression Toggle: Is it borked? on: 2009 May 23, 07:50:15
Yep, that's been reported a lot in the other thread.  Entire families up and move out of town.  Cute, ain't it?
56  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Story Progression Toggle: Is it borked? on: 2009 May 23, 07:20:50
So the game is randomly creating unwanted, ugly, random Sims and tossing them into families.  Then it suddenly looks at the numbers, decides there are too many Sims for your system, and deletes ones you've made.

What the Fuck are those idiots at EA smoking, inhaling, injesting or shooting up?
57  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: THE HORROR: The REAL TS3 Scoop As It Unfolds on: 2009 May 22, 22:58:10
Sounds like it would be easy to do a "Chucky" Sim then.
58  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: THE HORROR: The REAL TS3 Scoop As It Unfolds on: 2009 May 22, 17:08:50
That's the point, he didn't want to say pre-beta.

Has all the earmarks of someone in PR having been told, "Cover our Arse!" and kermitflailing to follow orders.  Someone who has absolutely no idea what a beta-release is or is afraid that the 12s who want the game won't understand the one-syllable word.  The fact that this idiot firmly stated that the second neighborhood, which EA has repeatedly said will be released separately, will be included in the final "real release".  Unless she/he/it means that the neighborhood is dormant on the final DVD/CD and only needs to be activated, of course.   (Somebody might check through what they've got to see if that's the case....)

This is awful.  I'm a respectable coven-going middle aged lady.  And I'm seriously considering downloading pirated softwar.  (Of course 80% of the software I had for my C vic-20 and C65, and my Amiga was pirated, but that was different.  Sorta.....

You can't fool us with that veneer of respectability.  We've noticed that if we say your name backwards it's actually a cuss-word from Farscape.

It is?  Oh, coooool!

I just asked my husband if I could dl it--he's the one who'll have to fix any messes I make in the course of so doing and he said he prefered not to have to de-virus me if I goofed up.  Now, I understand his reluctance.  We spent most of Thanksgiving weekend removing something called Vundo from my machine, and he spends much too much time on weekends fixing his Dad's computer because if his Dad see's a popup saying, "Want a virus that will wipe your hard-drive? Click here." he will click on it."  (FIL also doesn't believe in firewalls, or rather he believes in them until a virus tells him to turn it off.)  So, I think I'll give it a miss.

As I understand it, it looks like making stuff like clothing and objects is doable.  What is going to be difficult is more advanced modding, like, I guess, Macrotastics and FFS Lot Debugger.

But as stated above, they're working on it.  (And it's not like it hasn't taken 5 years to get SimPe to the point where it can do what it does now. So patience is a virture.)

Wasn't that the point of the whole "make your own thing" thing they tried to promote, or did they reverse that out and decide that the only new content you'll get will have to be bought through the store?

I know the whole 'create a style" tool is up and running, but that is just recolors. Are they seriously limiting new custom made meshes/objects?
Or am I not understanding this correctly?

Well, what Lerf said in what you quoted is that as he understands it, making clothes and objects -- I'm presuming he meant actually making new ones and not recoloring them -- is doable, but we don't really know yet. I guess we will find out in due time. But it might take awhile even if it is doable ... I'm sure all of you remember pretty well that it took something like six months for people to understand how to make new meshes for TS2. (That wasn't very long after I started playing TS2 and I was like, "Durrr .. what are meshes ...")

Yes, I meant actually making new ones--meshes and patterns--not just recoloring.  And, my husband says I'm a she.  But that's ok, it's hard to tell.  Especially as I eschew avatars.  (it's a religious thing.)

Is anyone else having problems with babies suddenly losing their diapers after using the baby stuff?  I even had a case of a set of twins turning opaque black--luckily they went back to normal as soon as they aged up.

This is in my hacks and EAXIS content only game, so no custom skintones are involved.

You haven't got the baby clothes changing mod from MTS2 have you? The going black bit was a reported bug with the first version and was fixed in a newer version.

THe one that changes toddlers to the everyday or pj's after they get a bath.  Yes, I do.  I'll take it out and see if I get--horrors! naked unblurred babies without it.  (You understand I'm utterly horrified at this development don't you?   Grin)

If you want a crisp, clean looking white use a pattern without any texture.  Under the Misc. tab there's one lonely swatch that's white.  Try that.

I already did that. The problem is that the alpha for the shadows for the said objects is too dark. My guess is they made it so it shows on dark colours as well. But for the light colours it is too dark. Also, the clean white does not look clean and white, it's more like a mix of pixelated white, cream, pink, grey and green. I repeat, I tried this without a texture. All white objects show this issue, including the fridge and the oven.
Are you sure that's the problem?  Because when I use that swatch in my game things actually look white.  *shrugs*

Might be a difference between your monitors.  I just upgraded from a 5+ year old CRT monitor to an LCD and it's amazing how different everything looks.  I just discovered that the "black" roses in S2 are actually blue....
65  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: THE HORROR: The REAL TS3 Scoop As It Unfolds on: 2009 May 20, 20:50:50
Doubt I'll download it as I'm in my late 50's and I'd like it to finish downloading before I'm too senile to know what it is.

So, can someone answer a question?  Is it possible to wipe the neighborhood clean and start over with a new family\families?  I realize that it will spawn nameless random horrors on its own but I'd just like to know if there's some way to get rid of the original neighborhood.

You say that like it's a good thing.

The idea of playing any EA game without hacks to make it bearable is just terrifying.

Are we talking about a Kewian-based version of the coffeecuphack or Kewian version of the coffemaker?  If so I'm not sure which I 've got, but I'll go look for the Awesome version, because they're still dragging the mugs all over the house with the March 11 version of the coffeecuphack.
69  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: Questions about hacks that don't have their own threads go here on: 2009 April 23, 23:03:33
Uhm, they already are. Are you using the proper official Awesome version, or some Kewian-based substitute? Accept no Kewian-based substitutes!
I'm using the Awesome version, and I check the booty every day for updates, but just in case I missed it I'll install the latest one and see if that takes care of it....
70  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: Questions about hacks that don't have their own threads go here on: 2009 April 23, 18:15:21
Would it be possible to include the mugs from the "Eclectic Coffeemaker" from LS or PS in the coffeecuphack?  I use it a lot more since it gives a bigger energy boost, but the stupid Sims are back to going all over the house to find a table to put the mug on.  And I can't be the only one having this problem.
71  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: TSR Privacy Violation on: 2009 April 02, 08:02:04
When I got my account on TSR it was still part of Mgon, and free with ads.  When they transferred to the new system my account went with it.  And, as has been repeated, you can't delete any account with them and they don't winnow out unused ones.  This is probably to keep their advertising accounts fooled into thinking they have more actual traffic than they have.  "We have a million bazillion members!!  Pay us monies!!"
72  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: TSR Privacy Violation on: 2009 April 01, 18:12:32
Your main arguement appears to be that LyricLee is too stupid to know what a .rar file is.  Last time I bothered to look her stuff was .rared so that doesn't hold  up.

Doesn't speak well for either your gullibility or IQ.
73  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Getting Ready to Update the Wrangler, taking feature requests on: 2009 March 03, 22:53:52
Just a simple one--could you make it possible to move a single garment to another folder instead of having to move everything you've found in the sort.

Otherwise I love WW.
74  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Broken M&G Window on: 2009 February 11, 18:18:03
Been mentioned before, but I thought I'd bring it up now as you seem to know your way around windows-- M&G broke the triangular "Pythagorean" window from OFB.  It will no longer place on the diagonal.
75  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: No M&G folder on: 2008 November 25, 01:15:04
Aren't you the one who started a thread in all caps about M&G being incompatible with AL, and then later discovered you had moved the EA Games folder yourself?

Trust me, the M&G folder is there.  Your comp can obviously find the executable since the game is running it.

And there was and is no M&G folder there, BTW.
