77  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Mail Lady on a Loop...Help? on: 2009 January 18, 11:35:21
No, I didn't try that or even moving her because I thought it would a VBT. I'll give it a go, and report back. Any idea on what's causing the SOR to freeze the game, though?
78  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Mail Lady on a Loop...Help? on: 2009 January 18, 10:38:42
I have a new lot that it took me almost a week to build. I moved in a single sim who lived there alone, with a butler, for about 4 or 5 game days, with absolutely no problems. At this point, I decided this house was too good for a second rate CAS, and moved him out and moved in a legacy with 3 members. I had everything set up so that the younger generation could immediately get married in the garden upon move-in. The taxi dropped them off, and I set the bride off to call the guests over right away. Everything was going great, until the mail lady showed up about halfway through the party.

I got the little pop-up that showed her at the mailbox, I was distracted so I just closed it and continued the party. But then it kept popping up, over and over again. I paused and looked over there to see what the hell she was doing, and she just kept walking in a circle around the mailbox, attempting to put mail in, failing, and repeat. I decided to ignore it until the party was done, so after the happy couple left on their "honeymoon", I tried to get the family matriarch, who is a witch, to just spell her away. That didn't work, so I tried the SOR, and my game just froze upon re-entering live mode. I hadn't saved, so when I reloaded the family was still in their "just got here" positions.

I tried the SOR again, same thing. I then downloaded the lotdebugger, because I searched and saw someone with a similar problem on here who was told to use that. I believe the option was supposed to be "nuke stuck bills", or something like that, but I did not see any option to nuke stuck anything. I think it says that doesn't show up unless there's something stuck, so I'm guessing there just wasn't something stuck. I am at a loss as to what to try next, aside from just letting the mail lady live in front of my mailbox.

I ran the HCDU and nothing comes up except the kitten killer conflicting with itself, so it's not that. Also, I may be wrong here, but I don't think the mail carrier is supposed to come on day one on a lot. I honestly can't remember, since I use Monique's computer to pay bills online, so I just pay them when the pop-up reminds me to without too much thought behind when the bills came. And the little red flag is up on the mailbox, but I think it gets stuck like that all the time with the online bill pay, and it never caused any problems before. So, that's my problem. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, if more info is needed, please let me know what. I have all expansion packs, including Apartment Life and M&G, if that helps.

Well, I don't have any custom cell phones, and I've tried it without any other hacks, but not without any other CC at all. The only CC I have that pertains to phones is recolors for the cheap wall/desk phones. I'll try it as you suggested without any other CC and get back to you.
80  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: Phone Hack v8.3 on: 2008 October 29, 07:59:09
I'm in the same boat as EPB and twistingsims, but it only happens when they are far away from the phone. So, if they are sitting at the desk, for example, and I tell them to use the desk phone, it goes through with the first order, but if they are in the kitchen and I direct them to the wall phone in the living room, they walk up to it, pick it up, and put it back. With cell phones, they pull it out, then immediately put it back, but it goes through with the second order.
81  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: The Spiral Staircase on: 2008 October 29, 07:30:37
I've never heard of the zooming out trick for fixing "unselectables" but I'll try it the next time it happens. It's usually trees, staircases, steps, and ceiling lights for me, too, so maybe that will work.

p.s. The benes thing was an obviously phail attempt at humor.

82  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Tabula Rasa on: 2008 October 09, 06:21:45
Before exiting the game, I messed around with the sim a little and found out that they do re-roll old wants. The sim in question was a teen witch, who had been at the coffee shop in Belladonna Cove for about 2 and a half sim days. During this time, she had developed a crush on 3 teen boys, and had had her first kiss with one, fulfilling the want. While I was trying to cast Cleanius Corpus for like the 5th time, I clicked too fast and hit Tabula Rasa. I don't remember exactly when, but at some point after I knew I was going to exit without saving, she re-rolled the "Have Very First Kiss" want. By the way, Purgomagus does not have any effect on Tabula Rasa. Apparently, once it's cast, that's it. Blank slate.

ETA: Spiritus Poultrous just makes the sim walk around and squawk like a chicken. I find it's only useful for making another sim hate the caster. The mother of the teen witch has maxed her negative reputation by using this spell and the one with the bees repeatedly on random passerbys.
83  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Tabula Rasa on: 2008 October 08, 02:27:41
I accidentally clicked on this stupid, useless spell while trying to click on something else, and now my legacy heir has no memories. I know it doesn't affect gameplay, but it is a huge annoyance. Google says there's no way to reverse it, and all I found searching here was a discussion on the name. I was just wondering if anyone awesome knows of a way for me to get my sim's memories back aside from exiting without saving. They really should have put in a reversal spell or at least a warning before casting.
84  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Questions about landlords on: 2008 September 22, 07:15:56
I also have that problem with the landlord just hanging out for days in the common area, usually ignoring his daily tasks. I have the ControlThisSim hack by Dolphin (I'm sure it's not updated, but it hasn't caused any problems for me), so when I notice that there's stuff he should be doing, I make him selectable and make him do his job. When he finishes, I stop controlling him and he usually goes home. He then works properly for a few days before I have to start the whole process over again. If there isn't anything he should be doing, I just ignore him and let him play chess all night in the rain, alone.

Btw, I'm really looking forward to your new shiny, Inge. I'm gonna go search for this "apartment controller", since it seems to do what I want, with the extra bonus of being current and awesome.
85  TS2: Burnination / The War Room / Re: Enabling Build/Buy In Apartments on: 2008 September 12, 03:14:00
If it was a problem for me, I would have searched for it. Since my solution of trial and error worked fine for me, I felt no need to go off searching for another one. But thanks for the tip, now that I know that there is a better way, maybe I'll look for it before my next project.
86  TS2: Burnination / The War Room / Re: Enabling Build/Buy In Apartments on: 2008 September 12, 00:46:11
To the person having the problem with yards: I found that the only way to have a real yard is to not have a foundation. If you have a foundation and then put stairs leading down to the yard, it won't work even if it is completely fenced in. That's how I just made a couple of townhomes with backyard gardens, they have to be ground level. I've never had a problem with balconies, though.

Now, my problem. I built 2 regular homes on one big lot, and made it into an apartment lot. I've been playing the first one for quite some time, but left the second one to be rented by an NPC. I made another family and moved them onto the lot, had them rent the second house, and then discovered that somehow, their kitchen is considered a community area. I'm pretty sure it's because I used the room separators. Upon discovering my error, I exited without saving, hoping to go back in and edit before moving them back in. However, they are still on the lot, they just haven't rented the house, and there is the other family on the lot, so I don't think I can just change the lot-zoning. So, my question is, can someone tell me which of these cheats to use, which family should I load up to use the cheat, and does it make a difference if I have the second family go ahead and rent or leave them in apartment limbo?
87  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: Unofficial AL Patch - Assorted Fixes on: 2008 September 06, 02:08:08
Huh, I thought the disappearing cooking skills was caused by my use of the hacked computer. I always use it to max the cooking skill of newly-made sims, so I just figured it's lack of updatedness was the cause. Thanks for the fix. Again.
88  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: How do you organize your CC? on: 2008 September 04, 18:35:19
That's a really good idea, I thought about doing that, but I figured I would forget to put things back in when I wanted to use them. I bet it speeds up loading time, though.
89  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: How do you organize your CC? on: 2008 September 04, 07:45:42
For those that sub-folder the heck out their downloads (by this I mean separate folders for different types of seating, separate folders for clothing genders and categories, etc.) when do you do this? As you download the items, or later on?

Related question: Does anyone extract from the .zip or .rar into the appropriate folder? Does this make it easier to stay uber-organised?

I made all of my sub-folders immediately, before I started re-downloading. For the second question, I have a folder on my desktop that I extract files to, from there they go to "New Crap Here", or if it is something by someone very, very trusted (like Nouk for hair, any hacks from here) it goes directly to it's proper place. For example, I have a sub-folder called "More Awesome", and anything I get from here goes directly into that.
90  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: An Apartment Building on: 2008 September 04, 06:39:58
Yeah, the rooms are big because I made the mistake of going into this with a particular family in mind, one of my sim families just had twins (only my second set ever), so I wanted the rooms to be big enough for both of them to have their own closet and lots of personal space. The roof is big because I have never tried to use the roof slope cheat and just always use auto-roof, but no time like the present to get educated! Since it doesn't seem to be too awful overall, I can use my future mastery of the roof cheat to make even more awesome lots to share. Thanks for the feedback!
91  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: How do you organize your CC? on: 2008 September 04, 06:24:58
After my total meltdown a couple of weeks ago, due to my former system of just dumping crap in my downloads folder as I found it, I adopted a new system that is working out quite well. I deleted the entire folder and then went in and made sub-folders that match the catalog in-game. So, it goes "Buy Mode", "Comfort", then subfolders "Dining Chairs", "Recliners", etc. Each sub-folder under Buy Mode has another sub-folder which is only for Maxis recolors. I have a separate folder for all hacks, with subfolders for what kind of hack and then more subfolders for who made it or what site it came from. I also have a folder called "CAS" with subfolders for Hair, Clothing, Skintones, etc, separated by more subfolders for gender, and for clothing, by which category it shows up under. To counteract my laziness (which I am working on, I promise!) and to save myself another meltdown, there is a main folder called "New Stuff Here, Tard", where I put freshly downloaded CC until I can test it in game and categorize it. So far, I've been doing pretty well at keeping that one up to date.

I actually only found this site because in the midst of my meltdown, as I was futilely trying to track down and identify all 5000 files in my folder, one by one, a Google search for a filename led me here. I don't remember what it was or if I even found it, because that was the same day I gave up in a fit of rage. Funny story, the CC that caused all this was a very, very ugly hairstyle that had taken over all my hoods, almost all new townies were spawning with it, male and female, although it was obviously supposed to be for females. After my Reformation, I actually downloaded it again. At least this time I found it right away, and got rid of it, without losing everything else too.
92  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: MATY and PMBD design contest! on: 2008 September 04, 04:24:56
I would definitely buy the one about wiccans, and the one with "Moar Fight". Based on the entries so far, this is going to be very expensive for me. I can not resist "inside joke" merchandise, I still have my KOL shirts in regular rotation even though I haven't been to that site in almost a year. I suck at designing stuff, so I have a suggestion. How about hats? I have that kinky, curly, uncooperative kind of hair, and hats are a staple in my wardrobe. Something simple, maybe text-only would be so awesome. I think that would work great for some of the more "You had to be there" quotes.

Off topic: I only know one other simmer in real life, and sadly she is a sheeple, but she's the one who turned me on to the game in the first place, when she loaned me her copy of Bustin' Out for Gamecube. Before that, I had no idea what a "Sim" was. She only owns the base game for PC, and prefers to play the watered down versions on consoles. And she thinks custom content is just awful because if these "creators" were any good, they'd work for EA, instead of hiding on the internet. Yeah, I know, but she's my best friend, so what can you do?
93  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / An Apartment Building on: 2008 September 02, 03:33:04
Here it is. My first non-Exchange upload. This is loosely based on some floorplans I found online for luxury apartments. http://rapidshare.com/files/141947898/Luxury_Apartments_take_2.rar.html
I'm not sure if this will work, so please tell me if it doesn't.

It is on the 2nd largest lot availabe, and there are 4 units ranging in price from 8,044 to 8,257. Every unit has 2 bedrooms, 2 and a half baths, a fireplace, plumbing, major appliances, a garage, and an outdoor area. Each unit also features exposed brick walls to make it feel more like an urban flat. There are 2 common areas, one on the first floor and one on the top. The first floor common area has a pool and a seating area. The second floor common area has a fitness center, a game lounge, and a bar with the flat-screen tv. There is also a playground in the back.

Only one unit is fully furnished, just to give an idea of layout. The rest only include appliances and plumbing, since that is all that would stay when moving sims in anyway. My decidely non-awesome screenshots are below.

The exterior.

And interior of furnished unit.

The lobby.

The community pool.

The fitness area.

And the bar/gaming area.

The custom content pictured in second screenshot but not included in the download are:
Organically Atomic Rug Recolor from Holy Simoly
Annie Modular Sofa by Blakeboy at MTS2
Hampton Desk by lara9taylor at MTS2
Colonial Tub Curtain Recolor by Piggis Sims
I used Clean Installer, so the only custom content included is the Simple Paint A in Bright White by Adele at (again) MTS2. I would've replaced this with more EAxis stuff, but couldn't find a nice substitute. Also, I have all expansions and stuff packs, so you might need those, too.

Edited to correct credits for rug recolor and Colonial Tub recolor.

ETA: MOAR pictures. Sorry for the small size on the last ones, I somehow forgot how to use Imageshack.
94  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: The Spiral Staircase on: 2008 September 01, 10:23:35
Oh. Wow.
I did try moveobjects on, but did not try undo.
An retard is I. I'll go try it now, and be back with the results.

ETA: I had to undo about 30 things to get back to before the first time I placed the staircase, but it worked! I can't believe I didn't even THINK to try that. I've been up too long, time to call it night. Thanks a million times, GayJohn.
95  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / The Spiral Staircase on: 2008 September 01, 09:53:26
I am trying to build an apartment building, (my third, so far) and decided to use one of the new spiral staircases. I ended up repositioning it several times when it suddenly became unclickable. Thanks to Google, I believe the solution might be right here at this very site, the Stuck Object Remover. The problem is that the building is not yet habitable, and I believe that the said solution requires sims on the lot. I am not sure about that because, although I found many instances of people telling stuck object victims to download this fix, I found no information on how it actually works, other than that it's a buyable object. I am also not even sure if this what I should be using for this situation.
So, should I:
a) Download the SOR, then move in a sim to use it
b) Download the SOR and use it without a sim
c) Use mystery option of which I am not yet aware
d) Live with it and admit imperfection
e) Bulldoze my 4 hours worth of unfinished work

Clearly, I would prefer to avoid the last option, so, can someone more awesome than me point me in the right direction, please?

(Benes for the person(s) who recognize the reference in the title.)
