51  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Earring weirdness on: 2007 June 12, 23:31:20
I first had that problem with glasses after installing University, the funny thing is that they were regular Maxis glasses... (didn't have custom glasses or earrings at the time)

They kept up their blue flashing and other odd behaviour (she'd sit on the toilet, her glasses hovered above in wait for her to stand back up into them...) and as I rarely played that lot, I decided to just leave them on her for giggles.  I haven't seen her in a while so I'm not sure the problem ever did go away.

woof, I'm still reeling from that blue monstrosity with the smiley face...
no seriously, I feel nauseous!
53  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Being Expelled From Uni on: 2007 June 12, 23:04:27
I actually just did this (on purpose) for the first time
I think I let him go to a class or two first semester, but he was put on probation for the second.
Second semester (on probation) he didn't go to class, no assignments, no term paper, no exam and bang - Expelled.

Unfortunately, I hadn't realized at the time that the whole 'family' gets sent home if one gets expelled, (and less than 4 students are so boring) so 4 "4th semester on the  Dean's list" students went with him back to the main neighbourhood. (that kinda sucked, though it's easy to get them there I may send them back!?)
54  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: In the Beginning Challenge! on: 2007 June 06, 22:46:25
exactly...
In my first custom neighbourhood, I made a few 'families' of roommates.
(Basically one of each just to see what they were like)

While it's been years and some of the more interesting have moved on to create multiple generations, there are still at least 20 that I created in my first month of Sim2-ing.
I'm considering making them townies because (first off, they're all Maxis, blech) but mostly because they've been showing up at other lots as randomly and though they're still too boring to actually play, they make decent enough visitors.
55  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: In the Beginning Challenge! on: 2007 June 04, 22:43:05
hmm, sounds a lot like the Prosperity Challenge, I mean, the very slow starting version of Prosperity...

and though the idea of that sounded cool at the time, I just can't seem to get beyond Generation 2-3.
Though the idea of aging the whole neighbourhood in equal installments is appealing,  I find I just start to give a damn about the family and it's time to leave it.
blech.
56  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: The Level Challenge! on: 2007 June 04, 21:41:19
Almost all of my homes are single story and at least 85% of my Sims have maxed skills.
They all reach the top of at least one career and I have never moved grandparents out...
They rarely pass out and the only bad party I've ever had was the time a Pop sim was near death and needed a party for Platinum death (he died just as the party started -heh heh)

Guess I win huh?

I like challenges, but that was by far the most disappointing one ever (in that I've won it so many times without even realizing I was playing)
57  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Help, one of my sims isn't aging on: 2007 June 02, 20:00:40
If you haven't already, check her in SimPE.
I had a born-in-game Sim, married with a family and suddenly noticed that his wife (12 days younger) was 2 days from elder while he was still at 29 days from...

I tried everything, from negative asp elixer and moving him to a separate lot to deleting and error forcing.  Finally it occurred to me to check him in PE.  Not sure how it happened, but his days left was sitting around the 65,535 mark, (the number that appears for ghosts)

He'd never been anywhere close to death and I don't recall anything odd happening in his home, but that was the only place I could fix him.
58  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Flirt = Affair? Wtf? on: 2007 June 02, 19:45:09
But some people are just flirty.
I have friends who flirt with everyone and everything, (gender indifferent) because that's just their personality, but it isn't sexual (to them) and they do so regardless of a spouse/partner's presence.
In the game, I could see that translating to crushes from others, but it shouldn't for them.

In game, I feel 'Affair' should happen only after a kiss or woohoo because I can't imagine many partners finding that acceptable. If there were a way to define it, only after a real kiss, not a peck, which some people do to acquaintances and strangers. (I wish there was a 'family kiss' for non-family, heh heh)
Perhaps it should also be triggered by love, but I don't think crush should do it as faithful committed people can have crushes on others without cheating. (you're married, not buried and if you don't act on it, you haven't cheated)
59  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: Jun "More Awful Than You": Stupidass Houses! on: 2007 June 02, 19:44:55
damn, I want to play too but I delete things I hate almost immediately.

I do recall downloading about 30 sucky dorms from TSR when I first got Uni...

*thinks the pool 'waterfall' idea is kinda cool, if not for the hideous tiles around it.
60  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Mesh/Recolor Subfoldering Question on: 2007 May 25, 21:21:30
As you've probably seen by now...
I'm not sure if/what the limit on subfolders is, but it's ok, I'm sure I've gone at least 5-6 at times without problems.

I have 2 Mesh folders (Hair/Clothes) with Subfolders for Creators (Chriko, SimChic etc.. Misc for the one shot wonders)
Inside I have subfolders for each mesh (named for the mesh) and throw recolours in along with corresponding pictures. I very rarely make subfolders for recolours, though someone such as fanseelamb would be an exception because of the sheer volume and common theme (MA).
Makes it easy to find everything, and when finding new offerings online that require a mesh, it only takes a second to check if I already have it or not. Also, if/when I get tired of the mesh, all the recolours will come out with it.

61  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Glass Ceiling Hack? on: 2007 May 23, 22:13:52
In my experience, mean and lazy people have little difficulty getting promoted,
and in the Sims, lazy just means more apt to skill (read, play chess etc...)
62  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: May "More Awful Than You": Buttugly Brokeass Furniture on: 2007 May 18, 23:07:59
I think the cribs kind of look like nests...
a great idea if you're bent on pretending that it really is the stork bringing that bundle of joy..

though the first thing I thought of when I saw that picture was how easy it would be for someone to make a recolour that's barbed wire or broken glass shards,
that would be one high security crib...
63  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Simchic and RabidAngel recolor? on: 2007 May 15, 23:57:20
No, but shamefully, I have at least 117 recolours for that particular mesh (sim chic) and as for RabidAngel....
She's (RA is a she, right?) made quite a few yummy meshes and I grab pretty much everything associated with them so you'd have to be more specific (which mesh?)
64  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Question about SimPE and Sim altering on: 2007 May 14, 22:32:25
Zeljka > That's exactly the kind of thing Theo's alternate sim surgery is perfect for.

yes, I have the plug in -but thanks for mentioning it in case I didn't
(-oops, did I say thanks here? I meant... baaaaa Wink )

I actually used it to replace an entire neighbourhood's downtownies ( seemed like a good idea at the time)
Using the plug-in to replace them was the easy part, fixing up wardrobes for each was more than a little tedious and even after several hours of work, I occasionally find townies turning bald and nekkid instead of spinning into swimwear on a community lot. It's scary because even their eye colour goes blank...

I know, I know, he didn't design the tool with replacing whole ugly neighbourhoods in mind, but it was so easy I had to try...heh heh

flower, I've tried so many times to make a self-sim that it's not even funny, I suck at making sims.
Val made me one and though the features are perfect, as a whole, it just doesn't look like me !? I tweaked it a bit to look more like me and it spawned Q-tip shaped offspring with eyes that rested on shelves...

*fears for future real-world children  Cheesy

Will give it another go sometime and let you know how I do...

65  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Question about SimPE and Sim altering on: 2007 May 14, 01:05:15
Glad to hear no spawn = no problem

heh heh, it was actually Brynne I was thinking of because there have been many versions of her and I have one of the earliest because it was compatible with EPs I had.
Haven't actually bred her though, so all's good.

(I may be the only person who finds playing SelfSims of people I know well through the community too weird.)
66  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Question about SimPE and Sim altering on: 2007 May 13, 23:06:27
Rightclick, "replace", with one that you exported? I dunno if Newfangled SimPE can. I only use Ye Olde SimPE.

Call me stupid and unawesome but, say for example:
I had someone's self Sim in the game (we'll say Denimjo's)
She updates her Sim and re-posts it for upload, but I already have her in my game and she's doing great so I don't want to dowload another and start all over.
I ask her to export her new Sim's LXNR and use that file to replace the one in my current 'Denimjo'.
Couldn't it work?

Or am I completely misunderstanding and simplifying?

I do realize the question was 'with DNA only' and the answer is 'no', but now I'm curious if it could be done without creating new Sims.
Downloading an LXNR to replace a Sim would be more appealing than downloading the whole thing.

*shrugs

Last month's contest must have brought out the best in creators, because the strangeness keeps coming. Pretty dress for a girl? Not whore clothes?  Well...

The blue one is for boys!

Quote from an admiring downloader "Awwww cutee LOl a boys dress... ohh if i make a boy really girly.."

I saw that, and couldn't help but think, wouldn't a 'really girly' boy prefer to wear the pink one?  Roll Eyes
(I mean, as long as we're playing the blue=boy, pink=girl game)

68  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: May "More Awful Than You": Buttugly Brokeass Furniture on: 2007 May 07, 05:36:34
I don't mind cutesypoo pink so much. Though it's not common in my homes, I've certainly found places for it.
I think it could be cute in a girl's bedroom or in a girly-girl budget dorm.

69  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: Apr "More Awful Than You" CC Treasure Hunt: Whore Clothes on: 2007 May 06, 21:11:57
Why did someone feel that we needed sheer skirts without panties?

Probably because almost anything with 'sheer' in it gets a zillion downloads and the no panty thing seems to be the same...  Roll Eyes

Actually, I really think there must be wrong with her....color blindness, or residual effect of too many LSD trips. There is no way a normal person could spend as much time as needed to create that crap looking at that crap and stay sane.

I thought so too but then I realized it was mostly bad textures rather than bad meshes (in many cases, certainly not all)
Texturing vs. meshing are obviously 2 very different skills; we see examples of that everywhere in the rampant abundance of horrific textures applied to meshes we know are great, or mesh creators who are smart enough to say "I made the shape, but suck at textures'

wow, that fishbone study is quite frightening, though I think the mirror is kinda cool and the chair beside it could be nice if placed in the right setting. (not together, nooo, never together)
*giggles at cookie stools... Cheesy

I don't mind that pink sofa, (it must come in other colours?) It looks like one of those things I would download and though I'd never find a place for it, I'd hesitate before deleting because it isn't entirely crap. (the pillows (?) and the mirror/tv... can just stay where they are)

72  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: The Asylum Challenge? on: 2006 October 24, 00:02:40
I did this one twice and was kind of disappointed, guess I just got lucky with the Sims I rolled?

I rolled all the Sims and then rolled to see which I would control (seemed more interesting that way) and got the only Fortune sim.
Thought there would still be plenty of madness to go around, but by day 3 I had 4 Platinum Sims (popularity sims were thrilled with their new best friends and the knowledge sims were content to clean up the constant mess from the clogged toilet.) Apparently I was controlling the only slob as the place was immaculate. The 'loonies' busied themselves with tidying, writing in their diaries and yacking each other into best friend-hood.

I left the clogged toilet as they enjoyed cleaning up the mess...some had maxed cleaning
had my guy set out gelatin or cereal before leaving for work so the fires started after he was home to put them out, the stove was 2 tiles away from everything so it didn't destroy anything...
also had him clear the easel whenever there was a finished painting... many of them were very high in creative as well... There's nothing in the rules preventing you from inviting them to join, so they averaged 5-9 cooking points...

Second time I rolled a romance Sim. It took forever (42 Sim days) to get 20 lovers, but using the mental patients to up the count made things slightly more interesting as it caused a bit of chaos in the home and fights actually broke out.. however, this also gave the other patients far too many aspiration points and I ended up with almost 300 points, even refusing to pay bills to bring the Repo man and having one death (spontaneous combustion at the stove!?)

Wanted crazy sims...  Cry
73  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: My glitch, SimPE glitch, or game glitch? Default skins acting wonky. on: 2006 June 10, 19:05:42
the only time i had this promblem . was when i had more than one default set in my downloads , it looked as if the head was using one set . and the body anther
The moral of that story being that you shouldn't have more than one default at any given time... heh heh

I've had tons of problems with skins using SimPE to change things (my fault, I know and accept it) and though they're always entertaining, it can be frustrating when the Sim you want to play suddenly has a green head and tone 1 body or anything else that doesn't match.
I did use SimPE to make defaults once and was not happy with it. The files were ginormous and keeping the original skin in the game seemed more than a little redundant. It would probably just be easier to copy and paste over an already working default skin.
74  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Fully Outgoing Sim Moves In With Total Strangers on: 2006 June 10, 19:00:25
I have far too many outgoing Sims that barge in uninvited and make themselves pretty much at home regardless of their relationship (or lack of) with the homeowners.
It often seems that if I make them selectable, they'll never leave and will bathe, cook and sleep as if they live there (even after I make them unselectable)
I either run them outside, remove the door and drop their motives to red (unselectable-they'll eventually leave) or tell a resident Sim to get rid of them. I prefer the first (it's funnier and it doesn't add another 'acquaintance' that my Sims will be dying to befriend, best friend and more)
75  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: toddlers playing together, why not? on: 2006 June 05, 02:18:52
If you have toddlers who have learned to walk and talk, the toybox definately works and kids can join as well.

Apart from the toddlers having to be able to talk to gain social, it seems you have to direct them one at a time to take a toy from the toybox, wait a second or two, cancel it then click a second time to get them to play in a 'group'. (they will move out of the way so the next one will be able to get a toy)

I've occasionally used Inge's shrub to teleport toddler cousins and those of their parents' best friends in because it's stupid that these toddlers wouldn't know each other.
In one neighbourhood, I teleported every toddler in the neighbourhood (20 -give or take) moved them in and turned aging off for a few days, just to see how things would go. (mass toddler training/socialization is so much more efficient)
