26  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Poll: Stealth Stairs on: 2007 July 26, 03:58:19
Sound interesting, (I didn't vote because there was no "oh, so that's what stealth stairs are" option)
Have heard a lot of them but prior to your explanation, had assumed they were a custom build item I was missing out on until I added newer EPs.

I use Targa's teleporters too, they get my Sims where they need to be without taking up the room stairs do (will not tolerate anything blocking my view) and because they only need two tiles, they're easy to box in and lock for a 'family only' upstairs.
27  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Lights won´t effect objects on: 2007 July 25, 02:06:15
That's the only light I use in any of my homes (except for the occasional bedroom lamp) and it was fine until I installed Nightlife.
I still use Inge's light concealer so I really don't care what it looks like, I just used it because it was cheap, seemed to shed the most light, (until now) and was the least intrusive when not concealed.

The lots that already had it were still ok, but putting it in new homes very rarely works.
28  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Graphical Weirdness in both neighborhood Screen and on lots... on: 2007 July 24, 00:56:24
um, I never play the default hoods (long deleted) and the only time they regenerate is if I remove the entire EA Games folder from My Documents (I put it on my Desktop) then start the game.
A whole 'fresh' game folder will be generated, (including the default hoods) without reinstalling.

Turn the game off, replace what you need from your Desktop Sims folders and there you are...
29  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Does this bother you as much as it does me? on: 2007 July 22, 21:13:25
I think there's value in posting almost anything. Though many of us here have been around long enough to know what does what... a lot of people (myself at times) lurk for answers to questions they feel may be too stupid to ask.

Sleepycat... I did eventually use Insim to switch it up because it was just too darn easy.

Playing Uni with my random yet nearly identical dormies showed me the mixed blessing great chemistry (with everyone they clap eyes on) could be.
Suppose the problem is that I cave to my Sim's wants so even if I'm not intending to 'get them with someone', if they're mooning over someone, I'll let it happen. While it was handy for putting Romance sims through, playing a Fortune Student who easily made it through the same way (graduating with a perfect grade despite barely writing exams, an inventory bursting with expensive gifts and something like 52 loves) made me realize that though the Romance LTWs are a blast to play, I probably shouldn't be corrupting all my sims that way, heh heh.

eta:
(I talk too much... shrug)
Mine almost all have the same turn-ons/offs too. If I'm playing them in a Romantic way, (regardless of asp) they'll get black hair, fit or costume makeup (most of my sims have black hair, they all end up fit and because I've deleted so many eyes, they all wear contacts) I don't care what gender they decide to pursue, most of my males wear makeup (eyelids) and glasses mean jewellry or piercings so facial hair would be the only gender specific thing I could pick. (sometimes used for Legacy heir/esses)

Not that any of it matters, I had 2 bolt roommates that couldn't keep their hands off each other and when I peeked, they were a perfectly unlikely pair. He was a fat redhead (her turn-ons: blonde, fit/fat turn-off..) He liked black hair and makeup/fit turn-off, she was fit and barefaced with brown hair. Of course they were both Knowledge and had good compatible zodiacs...
30  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: taking toddlers to community lots? on: 2007 July 22, 16:39:21
thanks,
I make them strangers with the Insim, but I'm still playing two neighbourhoods I started when the game first came out so there are a lot of sims and it's a pain removing so many relationships everytime I play a family. (I personally would be somewhat concerned if I brought home an acquaintance from work and couldn't pry them off my toddler.)

I suppose the idea of a daycare/nursery is cool and I can see why people may want one, but when I want my toddlers to meet, I teleport them to someone's house. In Legacy homes, I may bring in Spares' offspring so Grandma and Grandpa can actually meet them. The kid stuff is already there, and it just makes more sense to me that if they have 10 adult friends, those friends are aunts, uncles, cousins etc...
31  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Lot error messages keep popping up on pregnant sims! on: 2007 July 21, 20:04:06
Could you not just turn the testing cheat off until she has the baby or am I misunderstanding something?

Not that I'm a big user of the cheat (sometimes use it to force errors on stuck townies) but... if I forget to turn it off and get to a community lot, the lot becomes virtually unplayable for error messages. I just hit reset until I'm able to pause and turn the cheat off...
32  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Does this bother you as much as it does me? on: 2007 July 21, 04:12:22
In my game, Chemistry seems to be far greater influenced by Zodiac and Aspiration than turn ons /turn offs which don't seem to affect much.
(almost all my Sims have the same turn ons/turn offs yet are not attracted to the same sims.)

I have several sets of triple bolters in this neighbourhood.
It probably helps that almost all the Sims I've created have such similar personalities (sloppy, outgoing, active, playful, not overly nice) which translates to sims with the same Zodiac, and I can't help but notice that at least 80% of the Dormies I generated in the Clean Uni Hood seem to be *Knowledge (!?) Makes things a little less random.

*I'm not complaining really, if I had to pick one aspiration to fill a University with, this would have been it. Would have really sucked if they were all Pleasure, Family or Popularity...
33  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Sim Squirts on: 2007 July 18, 23:20:56
because I am kinda curious too (but not enough to download it) I went to simsquirts to see what the clothes looked like.

Which of the outfits aren't showing up?
If you look through her free toddler clothes there are links to the meshes she uses, (and I seem to recall one or two is a pay mesh)
but the onesies use the 'AnshinLanugo_InvisiUndiesTod' mesh (which is included with the free onesies and bathing suits)
34  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Will real parties ever be possible? on: 2007 July 18, 06:39:55
yes, the parties in the Sims 1 were a lot of fun (until Drew Carey showed up and cleared the room)

and I still miss the bowls of party treats from SimSlice. I don't think they even added anything new, just used needs drops, and one sided (perceived) relationship rises, stuff that was already in the game, resulting in pants wetting, random flirting/marriage proposals to perfect strangers, passing out on the spot (and that sim being mad at you for 'drugging him')

good times... Cheesy
35  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Does this bother you as much as it does me? on: 2007 July 18, 06:04:24
I set one of my serial dream daters up on a boy date, (not unusual in my game but I set him up with a very, very hetero male because he was handy...)
Still being fairly new to the sims dating thing, I was curious if you could do a 'just friends' thing.

They had a dream date without romantic interactions and though they started off as strangers, I think they just did the best friend hug at the end.

and why does everyone always hate on the Romance Sims? They're tied with Romance for my favourite. The first one I ever had was the town uh, man-whore until he married a Family sim. He was completely happy (platinum) faithful to his wife and a far better parent to their gazillion kids than she was. Romance sims are awesome!

36  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Sim Squirts on: 2007 July 18, 05:39:36
[not bothering to re-quote same text]

funnygirl indeed...

well, I'm laughing  Cheesy

but in case you haven't figured it out yet, why not try going back to SimSquirts and check out the spot you got the download from.
If there isn't a link to the mesh, it should at least tell you which one you're looking for.
37  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Playing with fridge on: 2007 July 18, 00:40:00
I still love toddlers eating the chocolate spilled from the candy machine,
and 'steal bottle' which I have only seen them do once autonomously....

(that's right, I starve my toddlers then drop one bottle between them to watch them duke it out Cheesy)

38  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Influence to... grab cake? on: 2007 July 14, 06:56:17
Funny,
I realize that technically, a Secret Society has no residents but everytime I go there (with darwincow) I lose one more member to the Cowplant.

Obviously if I really minded I'd do something about it, but hey, they were all watching when the last one went so if they're too stupid to recall that little lesson...
(and ugly, I try to call the decent looking ones away, but the ugly ones make scarier ghosts)

39  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: taking toddlers to community lots? on: 2007 July 13, 04:18:39
As mentioned, with the proper mods in place, you can do almost anything.
I have teleporter shrubs on all my community lots and if I actually wanted toddlers there, it would be nothing to create a residential lot with all the toddler fixins, re-zone it to community, then teleport them in when they're wanted there.

Inge's bottomless bottle if a community fridge doesn't produce bottles, the autonomous toddler blanket, a potty or two, some skilling toys, a toybox if you wanted to set up  'playdates'...

Personally, I try to limit the Sims my toddlers meet as I hate their want panels spammed with wants for Sims I don't care about...
40  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Uni troubles - borked SS and then some... on: 2007 July 06, 03:28:43
Yay-Woo!

I tried the backup because I couldn't even get in to the other one...
2 weeks may not sound like a lot of time to most, but I hadn't played for months before them and had been using the features of Uni and NL for the first time...  'course, being a Challenge hood I'd forced myself to check in on quite a few of them, fix them up all purty-like after various CC purges, and move them along towards assorted goals...  I'd made a lot of progress that I didn't want to lose.  I mean, the first 30 odd dream dates were kinda fun, but not fun enough to attempt to recreate them.

Freshly motivated to try harder, I poked around some more in PE,
I fixed the Neighbourhood UID and changed the N00# for easier identifying, then I found a couple things in PE I'd never really noticed before (and still have no clue what they are: 0x0F9F0C21 (UNK) and the 2 UNKs at the bottom of the list) I replaced them with extracted versions from the backup hood.

Added Lottery Fix, removed ALL non-MATY hack CC (very significant in my game where the usual - compressed - is about 8G...) Started it up and to my complete surprise and delight, it worked!

The SS is a still a bit curious but only 16 members show up at a time and it actually has a a fund now that works as it should.   Shocked

I did have a new weirdness where dormies (in dorm) stood around the bookcase (frozen yet blinking, very creepy) until I reset them, so I used the lot debugger to force errors on all and everything seems most excellent now.

*plants a grateful smooch on Ste's cheek and offers him a fireman or two to help with the uncrossing of fingers, elbows, legs, arms and toes,
You rock ! Cheesy
41  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Uni troubles - borked SS and then some... on: 2007 July 04, 01:37:32
Thanks,
Though I have a zillion backed up versions of neighbourhoods, I apparently played for two weeks straight without making a fresh one (*smacks forehead)
Serves me right really, I should hardly have forgotten how this sort of thing can happen in a few short months away from the game.
I will try from the latest backup (clean uni, one dorm of YAs, no SS so far).

I don't even care if the SS lot has money, it's so easy to come by honestly that I've never used cheats for it, but I was using a YA who'd dream-dated his way through most of the neighbourhood and had an Inventory full of expensive gifts that I figured he could spare.
(unbeknownst to both of us til then, he'd dated at least 2 of the SS members as a teen, so it was a pretty easy in.)

cross your fingers for me Wink
42  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Uni troubles - borked SS and then some... on: 2007 July 03, 02:19:48
I hadn't played the Sims in months and decided finally to try putting some Sims through University. I've had the EP on for a long time but beyond trying it out with a couple CAS in a throwaway hood, hadn't used it.

I downloaded the clean Uni templates and created Academie, made 3 CAS YAs, put them on a rental lot and made 2 of them SS members then dormies.
With one left, I generated the (rolls eyes) 50 dormies and was ready to play.  5 of my favourite overachieving teens were the first to set off to University.
All was well and good and Uni was actually fun... until one got abducted to the Secret Society.

Though my test Sims a year or so ago had been SS members at SimState, I'd never seen Volavent before. Very disappointing and Secret Society funds were 0.
I decided to donate some of her inventory and got an error... I reset and thought I'd go on my merry way when the game started to lag.
Though they appeared in poofs of a half dozen or so, I suddenly had 56 Secret Society members on the lot without any sort of error dialogue.
I eventually managed to pause and place Inge's shrub so I could clear them, allowing her to get to a phone to go home. blah!

I have all the noregen and anti-redundancy mods, so I'm not sure how this 'Secret Society' has so many members... I've never done anything to change my visitor count, and this has happened in every neighbouhood I've tried.
The neighbourhood I first used is completely borked and crashes 3/4 of the way through loading either the main or subhoods (fiery ball), but testing other neighbourhoods and older versions of the same all get me the same result. Wah!

I've done a lot of reading to try and figure out the problem and have seen ste's SS Lottery fix, but don't have the same EPs (Uni/NL only)
HEEeLLLP!!!111!!!
43  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Ugh Uni - creating your own. on: 2007 July 02, 18:40:30
It's stupid that even if you DON'T HAVE A UNI SUBHOOD, they STILL get the want and then the resulting fear.  I'm just making my teens go straight to adults and then using the lot debugger to give them an education if they need it.

That must be something like when my Sims get calls from random townies inviting them to the cool downtown location they've found before I've installed a Downtown.
I tried it once out of curiousity... not pretty, and the townie was furious for being stood up to boot...

EPs would be more fun if every single sim's Wants and Fears panel wasn't suddenly taken over by 'try this great new ep' things. I can see Pop Sims wanting to jump on the latest bandwagon, but everyone? bleh
44  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Ugh Uni - creating your own. on: 2007 July 02, 17:10:13
I think it's a little silly that they're all obsessed with going, I could see it for Knowledge or maybe even Finance [insert case for each asp here] but what town in the world has an entire population wanting to further their education? I'd like to see the want of 'Not going to Uni' show up every now and then. Some people prefer succeeding without post-secondary education.

But, they never really cry over anything for more than one evening anyway right?
I usually send them to an easel or some other absorbing task after a tragedy, if they keep breaking to cry, I use object error on them to make them stop...
there will be no needless crying in my game... heh heh

45  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Fitness Surprise on: 2007 July 02, 16:51:20
Sure this wasn't just because she didn't eat during those hours Tongue

That doesn't actually affect fitness does it?
It doesn't in my game (not that it would be unusual for my game to be different from everyone else's Undecided)
I always found it weird that a Sim who lives on the brink of starvation will get fat if they take one extra bite once,
yet returning to their barely enough to live affects nothing.

No eating disorders in the Sims...
46  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Being Expelled From Uni on: 2007 July 02, 07:44:11
ooh, clothing tools global you say? I am right on that,

It wasn't just the expelled Sims that took their roomies with them, graduates did it too...
I tested with Pleasantwhatever (*sobs, traumatized by using hideous Maxis sims) using a horrible readheaded twin, added a few roommates and they all headed to the taxi when she graduated. I hit them with an error and sent her back to the phone to wait for testing.

*squeals with delight...
Jordi, you are a genius, it worked exactly as it should with both a graduation and expulsion (take that Meadow Thayer)

tha I mean... baaaa
47  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Being Expelled From Uni on: 2007 July 01, 17:33:39
Unfortunately, I hadn't realized at the time that the whole 'family' gets sent home if one gets expelled, (and less than 4 students are so boring) so 4 "4th semester on the  Dean's list" students went with him back to the main neighbourhood.
That is definitely not supposed to happen.

Being that I'd never actually played University before, I assumed it was 'as designed' but seeing as other, likely unrelated issues have turned my game to a smouldering ball... I decided to sift through my zillion indispensible hacks to find the problem.  Is anyone surprised it's Inteen?

In a way I was relieved that it was so easy to isolate, but at the same time... boo freaking de-hoo Cry
birth control, instant delivery and the occasional knocked up teen makes my game better.
48  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Creating a Custom Name List on: 2007 June 15, 22:06:11
I work with employee databases so I've seen a gazillion names, many of the common type but some really fantastic.
I feel bad for those with uninspired parents who've named them Tom Thomas, Joe Joseph, Rob Roberts etc.. (I've seen at least 2 of each, but have come across countless other 'Last name and repeat' names)
Though I suppose it made kindergarden easier, I can't help think I'd have been disappointed with such a name.

The most surprising surname I've come across was Outhouse. I realize most names mean something, but the idea that your name means that is...

*has one of those stupid last names that was mutated at one point to disguise their origins...
49  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: Anti-Date Flowers on: 2007 June 15, 21:51:21
They never used to give you any money in NL, I think that was changed in OFB. Dunno why, 'cos you can't sell them in shops.

ahh, that's why they're useless in my game. I have OFB but it's on standby.
I'd probably gone a year or so not playing and wanted to try adding the EPs one or two at a time (partially to see what each adds/milk whatever fun I can out of them, but also to remind myself which hacks are worth updating)

50  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: Anti-Date Flowers on: 2007 June 14, 21:47:22
Thank-you, O Awesome One. Will this work for those of us peasant-type people who have everything up to OFB, but do not have ZOMGPetz!!!!1111one!one! or Seasons?

oh I hope...

Is there anything possible to just eliminate the flowers altogether?
I have quite a few chronic dream-daters and as far as I'm concerned, if it doesn't add anything of use to the home (or bank account) I'm really not interested.
