101  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Default skins ...again on: 2006 February 24, 18:59:35
yes, though it is apparently accurate, reality doesn't use a formula.

In real life, I know a blonde blue eyed fair (tone 1) woman with a black haired, brown eyed dark (tone 4) husband and their kids are 1-boy like dad, 2-boy tone 3 with dad's hair but mom's eyes, 3 daughter like mom but black hair. In my game, the same coloured couple produced 22 kids, from tone 2-4 and each with black hair.
I also know an Asian/Scandinavian couple whose twin daughters were perfectly mixed. One was very fair, blonde with blue eyes and Asian features, the other had very Scandinavian features with black hair and darker skin. They were stunningly beautiful girls.

If you don't care about genetic accuracy, you could mix it up by changing the dominance of your blonde hair to the same or nearly the same number as black, (or reducing dominance of black) though you'd have to change each one...
I haven't messed with dominance settings in my game but there is some really useful information in that other thread that should help you through it. Even  though it seems rather complicated at first, once you've done one or two you'll have no problems.

good luck Smiley
102  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: My sim does a Britney! on: 2006 February 24, 18:37:13
meh, I don't think it's gross, I ignore the hygeine of my toddlers until it gets pretty low, then put them to bed with a full bladder. Though the bath animation is adorable, a diaper change is so much faster. (of course I'd never do that with a real baby) I don't keep tubs on my lots, just too appealing to my stupid lazy adults who don't have time for that.
103  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: CONFESS! How many of you pay for downloads? on: 2006 February 24, 00:45:45
I don't see why this discussion had to turn into something ugly. Sad

As many have mentioned, what we choose to spend our money on is up to us. Calling people stupid or insinuating they are ridiculous in some way for paying to download game enhancements is silly. Plenty of people spend money at bars, concerts, frequent eating out or other things I don't do,  how is it stupider to spend it extending the entertainment value of a game that would be otherwise shelved?

That said, apart from MATY, I haven't paid for anything, simply because I don't have a paypal account and am too lazy/stupid to set one up. This isn't a matter of pride, just a statement of fact. That I really haven't seen many pay items that were better than the fabulous stuff I've downloaded for free doesn't mean that I'm cheap, or unwilling to pay for someone's efforts, again, just too paranoid for paypal.
and I have so many downloads already.

It is interesting that I've so often come across sites with stuff that was moderately ok only to find it was a pay site. Sort of like doing a content purge and trying to delete that terrible pair of pants only to realize it's Maxis stuff.

I have spent a bit of time making clothing so it surprises me when I see clothes where details were overlooked. The wrong footwear for the mesh, countless 'photo-real' jeans that are a different colour from behind, have scrunchy bums or open flies revealing the inside back of them, shirts that have a collar and buttons on both front and back, seams or sleeves that don't line up... While I feel this is acceptable for free content (I can fix it if it's warranted) but it would really offend me if I'd paid (perhaps why I notice it more on pay sites)

If/when I get a paypal account, I probably will donate to a few of my favourite sites, but not because they are charging for something I want, more because I've really enjoyed the stuff I already have from them. Modders don't usually 'ask' for money, but apart from those on Maty, Inge has really improved the enjoyability of my game. SimChic, because so much of my clothing uses their meshes, Chriko for the same reason. Reflexsims because her furniture is in all my homes, Peggy? tough call, I love her stuff, but I've downloaded more than one tiny object with a mesh that took up the whole room and so many of her clothes show in every category... would probably still donate if I had it to spare.

I know it varies, but I live in a free country and have no problems spending my money where I see fit.
104  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Any demand/desire of sc4.terrains? on: 2006 February 23, 23:52:36
I seem to have a short attention span and have almost a dozen custom neighbourhoods, so I'm always on the lookout for new terrains, these look great, so thanks Smiley
105  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: My Most Awesome Week? on: 2006 February 20, 19:11:30
I agree with Inge, I want a 'thank you this is great' option because I think I've been here since July and was kind of worried about my 3 days & 22hours here until I saw this... heh heh
106  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Hides in a corner on: 2006 February 16, 14:35:17
I didn't see the original post, but I have a tendency to click a little too fast at times, particularly when tired so I've done stuff like that... more than once.

hey, where did all my hacks go? oh, I threw them into Lot Catalog, or something equally useless.
Hey, since when did Logs have subfolders? (oh, so that's where my 3 'test' folders went)

Yet another reason window mode is so much easier...
107  TS2: Burnination / Planet K 20X6 / Re: Sit-On-Your-Hands Challege (unrefined) on: 2006 February 16, 04:38:14
But I wasn't intending on doing any challenge, just an evaluation of how well Sims get along on their own.  And they've gotten along real well left to their own devices.

Yes, but you gave them skills and are still directing them. The purpose of freewill is partially testing how proactive you are in the planning stage as there is no direction allowed.

Redundant fridges, bathrooms, trash compactors and dishwashers, smoke detectors up the wazoo and plenty of 'autonomous' skill building things like chess boards...
Children wouldn't die, Sims occasionally 'serve' on their own, and if they have a toy oven, they will cook when they're hungry. There would be issues with homework and perhaps Social worker removal if their grades slipped too far...
108  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Change Neighborhoods? on: 2006 February 15, 00:32:43
I didn't actually get errors, just wondered why all my other neighbourhood's characters were showing up there as well. Once I figured it out, I deleted all the unwanted characters and all memories of them. Seemed to do the trick (band-aid solution), though my game is full of fiery ball extinguishing hacks...
109  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Change Neighborhoods? on: 2006 February 14, 23:05:26
all their memories of the Sims who tagged along in memory form become unknown (had unknown, made best friends with unknown etc..

Before I knew about the fiery ball thing, I binned my Legacy family and moved them to a new neighbourhood, I also packaged their son who'd moved out, married and had children... so many unknown memories it's crazy, and it was even creepier when she met her son and wanted to flirt with him... ew

I would certainly try it Sleepycat's way though...
110  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Awww... shucks (newsbox) on: 2006 February 14, 21:58:38
meh, I am pretty much indifferent to it myself, I just don't like that it makes otherwise happy and well-loved people feel less so because someone neglected to buy them something on Feb. 14.

We do the present buying and overly-nice thing to each other if and when the mood strikes us regardless of occasion, having an official holiday tell us to do so makes us less inclined. If we do exchange gifts, there is a rule that it must be something we don't expect others to be getting,  usually something chore-related or downright gross, (but funny of course) whatever will be most shocking to the people who ask us what we got the next day.

I like to get chocolate, presents or flowers 'just because' not out of a feeling of obligation.
111  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: Lot Sync Timer: All BlueSoups Suck Edition on: 2006 February 14, 19:33:36
hmm, I don't mind teens, (usually because my homes are crawling with toddlers and they're so helpful) so I've been sending them the day before they transition. I guess because they had more skills and it gave me more time to figure out which friends to take along.
112  Ye Olde Simmes 2 Archives: Dead Creators / Ye Olde Crammyboye Archives / Re: No Community lot food serve. on: 2006 February 14, 10:46:16
Yes, within a directory.  I also think the directories get loaded in alpabetical order too.

This seems to be so.
I have most of my hacks divided into subfolders by creator and have simply named your folder ZzCrammyboy.
I haven't noticed any problems with any of the other hacks that mention potential conflicts (in folders such as twoJeffs, dizzy and not even with the 'kitten-killing' Inteeminator in the main Download folder)

Are there specific conflicts I should be looking for before deeming it a safe method?
113  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Has anyone using Crammyboy's mesh gotten this error? on: 2006 February 14, 10:35:24
and I'm sure you know this already Rainbow, but clicking on your Sim's 'part' will give you the option to hide it when he's dressed...
I don't want to be clicking on someone's parts! That's nasty!

I'm sure you don't, but I never imagined you would add something like this to your game anyway. Most people who add them to their games don't mind playing with them a bit. Cheesy
114  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Has anyone using Crammyboy's mesh gotten this error? on: 2006 February 14, 08:35:21
So it seems that the solution would be to 'fix' the hula dancers in PE to make them the females they appear to be (why did Maxis make the grim reaper female and the hula dancers male anyway?)

99% of my Sims die of old age in platinum (Hula circumstances) and I've only seen what appeared to be female dancers.

and I'm sure you know this already Rainbow, but clicking on your Sim's 'part' will give you the option to hide it when he's dressed...
115  TS2: Burnination / Taster's Choice / Re: REPOST - No Empty & No Mid-stream Stop Hacks on: 2006 February 11, 05:57:10
It's those neat sims again!  Catch Don doing THAT autonomously!  But I've had them walk all the way upstairs JUST to empty the potty!

Any parents out there who do it the sim way?  I thought the normal thing was to take the potty to the loo, empty it and wash it out!

I believe that is the norm, but most real people don't have potties that regenerate little blue liners which turn urine into garbage if you drop them...
116  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Default eye replacements on: 2006 February 11, 05:50:22
I think the problem with downloading eyes is that you always get screen shots of either eyeballs, or a Sim staring straight ahead.

That would be great if that's what you needed, but what would be really handy would be screenshots of Sims using them with a few of their funny 'extreme' expressions. That way, people who like me who'd prefer no shading around the eyes can skip them, heh heh

The only 'real' eyes I didn't mind were Barcelonista's, the shading is there, but it's not black, more of a pale pinkish 'barely there' colour that looks ok so far.
117  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Does This Sim Scare The Bejesus Outta You? on: 2006 February 10, 15:19:20
He looks positively possessed in that picture.  You should burninate that neighborhood immediately to rid your PC of evil spirits. Cheesy

I think he has a certain charm to him. (as a kid, I've since seen the teen picture and he actually looks like someone I know, I think it's the mouth - hideous and the girl is positively frightening!)

While I do have a tendency to mostly add attractive Sims to my game, every now and then, I accidentally create one in CAS that's so hideous I can't help but add them. They don't scare me so much as make me giggle every time I see them. Seeing those tired Maxis animations as expressed by a creature unlike the average Sim can be a refreshing change.

Faceblend accidents scare me more, perhaps it's the element of surprise. usually those stupid eyelashes protruding from the wrong place or alien sized blue eyes that scare me...
118  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Default eye replacements on: 2006 February 10, 15:07:21
Great set Syera,
It was in my folder of eyes to test but I hadn't made it that far in the alphabet (so... many... eyes...) I checked it out and it looks great on the townies.
I particularly like that unlike so many others, your green is actually green. I don't understand why so many people make them in shades that clash with certain skin tones (usually dark)

I think the problem for most (myself anyway) is that a choice has to be made between Realistic and Maxis style with improvements. The two just can't be mixed, Maxis style eyes look silly in real skin and real eyes look spooky in Maxis type skin...

I predict the novelty of realistic skins that look superb on the right Sim while zoomed in (but can look quite monstrous otherwise) will wear off quickly for me and I'll go back to a Maxis style for my default, saving the 'real' skins and eyes for CAS sims.
119  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Default eye replacements on: 2006 February 10, 14:20:55
Well, I tried these out, and they aren't for me. My sims are still wearing their contact lenses, lol. I must be really picky, because all the ones everyone else seems to love look awful on my sims.  Tongue

I feel the same way,
I've downloaded every half decent looking custom skin and eye (as a once and for all) I could find over the past 2 weeks and still have yet to find anything I like better than what I have. (Lyran's eyes)

I was excited when I saw Barcelonista's set of Real Eyes, I think the dark blue is gorgeous, but the rest...

edit: apparently the caffeine is wearing off and I need sleep Angry

120  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Any dope on the new mini expansion packs? on: 2006 February 09, 16:19:54
We don't have a Best Buy either, though I suppose if I drove to Toronto I'd find at least a couple. I have no idea what the booster packs cost, but probably not far from the $45(all-in) that I paid for each EP.

I haven't tried it yet, but didn't the last booster pack put new bugs into people's games? I already have a ton of new objects and clothes that work and actually appeal to me so I can't imagine paying for more Maxis stuff. (though I think I'd pay for a way to remove it from my Sims' closets)

New way to die? Perhaps that deserves investigation...
121  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Does This Sim Scare The Bejesus Outta You? on: 2006 February 09, 14:11:28
The worst thing was that her other parent was albino (hence the pink eyes) but I'd deleted the skin tone, so further generations were born with dark skin...
Though dark skin seems to reduce the horror of the odd features, that slight improvement was ruined by pink eyes and white hair. I also had a problem with female kids in the same hood not having teeth (just gums)  not sure where it came from (default rep from DMA?) but it just made a bad thing worse.
122  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Does This Sim Scare The Bejesus Outta You? on: 2006 February 09, 13:27:43
I agree, the only thing wrong with that girl is that her nose is too high, (and that first hairstyle is hideous, I've never seen a sim that looked good with it)

I have some horrendously ugly Sim kids... mostly decendants of I've downloaded, those nice 'unique' features don't blend well.

I downloaded a really good Lucy Liu and though she was cute as a button, she had the ugliest toddlers/children ever... Her son hit adult about 3 seconds after hitting toddler (was hoping he'd grow into it, but he didn't) I tried breeding out the ugly gene and have a whole ugly neighbourhood of her offspring to prove it (kept growing up them up in hopes an age would suit them, if not, they were moved out)  I thought I'd managed to tone it down a bit, but re-entering that hood months later, I realize I didn't even come close.

Her son and granddaughter... I shrieked everytime this kid looked at me and eventually had to grow her up because I just wasn't sure my heart could take it.

123  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Any dope on the new mini expansion packs? on: 2006 February 08, 04:38:36
hmm, mine just comes home with snide comments like 'the new guy at work said his kids used to like the Sims but they discovered the money cheats and got bored with them... and they're only 8 and 10'    where I come back and say 'sure they've discovered the cheats, but they haven't discovered the mods...'

then again, he also heads me into the computer room when he wants control of the tv (which is 98% of his home after work time)
124  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: faceless guy on: 2006 February 08, 01:23:04
Could the sheets you can't delete just be badly done (old) recolours that overwrite the Maxis which is why you can't delete them in game?

Maybe running the duplicate scan in PE could find a few that are copies? (or perhaps like my cupboards, they were tied into a frame that was deleted?) I know it's a real long shot, but you never know!?
125  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: faceless guy on: 2006 February 07, 23:14:10
And in-game deletion just doesn't work for me, the objects are back next time I load my game!

Wow, would I ever hate that!
In game deletion of recolours is about the only thing I'm pleased with (as far as relative simplicity and speed) I've often longed for the ability to delete the 'CAS recolours' in game with the same ease.

It was actually a set of counters with espresso, cappucino etc... written across the countertops. I liked it, but didn't feel I needed 5 or 6 copies of the same base to go along with the tops. (though I was wrong,  Roll Eyes)

I'd downloaded them long before Uni was released though, so they were very early recolours. One of the few sets I'd been able to find back then in a decent colour (not purple, green, pink... just a deep coffee-ish sort of colour)
