1  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Apartment Life Borkiness, or how i ended the world in 1 hour. on: 2008 September 28, 15:11:59
Do you know if anyone has extracted a replacement for the missing downtown tower?  I guess the EAxoids used the same coding from the old one downtown on a new tower for BDC and overwrote the old tower that is suppose to be in the downtown.  Probably just a screw up on their part and the old downtown tower is supposed to still be there.

Tower before AL

Tower after AL
2  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: TUTORIAL: Merging the Maxis neighborhoods. on: 2008 September 27, 15:09:07
I was experimenting with this yesterday, and it is as sigi said.  The instance values for the sims and the lots do change and that is related to it, but that alone isn't the only reason why attaching BDC with apartment lots is a problem.  If it were only that the Instance values change then we would have the same problem loading any of the other neighborhoods via the OFB or Downtown templates as well because those Instance values also change.  Even when you go in and correct the Instance values for the apartment dwelling sims with SimPE, although it almost works, there is still problems and the lots become glitchy.  The problem is centered square on the apartment lot files themselves.  The baselot and sublot files are stagnant and the values do not change at all as long as there is sims living in the lots.  You've probably heard about people saying we also can not seem to move apartment lots around within the neighborhoods or into the lots bin with sims living in them in-game either.  I don't know whether this was intentional by design or a bug, it may be intentional.  There might be too much that goes wrong with these lots, so Maxis designed it this way.  I know that when I attempted to do it by correcting the values with SimPE it glitched up the lots and the graphics on these lots get all wonky.  If it's unintentional, there may be a possibility that this could be fixed when the patch for Apartment Life is released.  I will be looking in the patch notes for this.  But, this is definitely is a problem with the apartment base and sublots in particular and not anything to do with SimPE.
3  Serious Business / Spore Discussions / Re: Patch weirdness on: 2008 September 26, 17:45:55
Is it a game that was started before the patch?  I wonder if it's one of those cases where you have to start all over with a new game/the old game isn't able to be fixed or changed by the patch.
4  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: TUTORIAL: Merging the Maxis neighborhoods. on: 2008 September 25, 22:21:02
So maybe that wasn't why the "gals and guys" were having problems? Intriguing. If you find a cure, do let us know.

I felt surely when SimPE was fully updated that it would correct this problem. That's why I waited.  I think it has something to do with that fact that in the AL folder the hidden Magic neighborhood E002 is in the Neighborhood template folder instead of the main BDC hood, and the main BDC hood is in the Userdata Neighborhoods folder. OFB doesn't have a Userdata Neighborhoods folder.   Some how when we put the BDC files in the OFB neighborhood template folder the apartment dwelling sims get cut off from where they live.  I have some ideas up my sleeve that I am going to try.  I still would like to figure this out.

For today, I did I put it together the way everyone else is.  Although it was a little more time consuming, that worked fine, except I found that the baby furniture was not included in the furnishings in the Cho apartment.  What did everyone else do about that?
5  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: TUTORIAL: Merging the Maxis neighborhoods. on: 2008 September 25, 13:33:06
Where am I going wrong? I don't get this.  I don't understand why we can't merge Belladonna Cove like we do all the other Maxis neighborhoods now that we have SimPE version 72?  How is AL different than the other hoods, or is there still something wrong with the latest version of SimPE?  Why is SimPE still not able to keep the sims in their original apartment slots?

When I go to attach Belladonna Cove the apartments are still empty.

Okay, I may be forced to move them out and in, but I would rather figure out why merging Belldonna Cove isn't working as it always has before with the other hoods.  There has got to be a solution.

There's already been a L&P from Wright that they're working on expansions, but I'm not sure what an expansion can do to fundamentally change how the game is played.

Will's not going to hang around for the expansions.  He maybe took a short vacation and then working on his next game by now, which we won't know what it is for another four plus years from now.  My money is on that it will be something related to robots.
7  Serious Business / Spore Discussions / Re: Anyone using the "no cd" for spore? on: 2008 September 20, 22:41:22
The 1.01 exe is for the Creature Creator.  Not the game.

No. Something strange is going on I tell you.  I am beginning to wonder if someone isn't attempting to exact some sort of revenge on those downloading Spore for free because of all the hoopla that was going on last week with the Amazon ratings and it being called the "most pirated game".  It's wierd because at NFOHump Battery has many listings for clean PC Game Dox.  Someone may be parading as Battery and normally legitmate sources are falling for it.

It doesn't say that is for SCC at NFOHump
http://www.nfohump.com/index.php?switchto=nfos&menu=quicknav&item=search&search=true&group=BAT
http://www.nfohump.com/index.php?switchto=nfos&menu=quicknav&item=viewnfo&id=129689

At game copyworld it's listed on the "Spore Fixed EXE @ GameFix" link.
http://www.gamecopyworld.com/

It links to this page http://gf.wiretarget.com/spore.htm

It's listed like this:

Spore
Spore Creature v1.01 Fixed Executable [12.4 MB]    <--That contains a Trojan.
Done by Battery
Spore Creature v1.0 Fixed Executable [9.7 MB]
Done by RELOADED

Spore Creature Creator
Spore Creature Creator v1.01 Fixed Executable [4.4 MB]
Done by ViTALiTY
Spore Creature Creator v1.0 Fixed Executable [3.9 MB]
Done by ViTALiTY

I checked google, and both Piratebay and Mininova originally had this file listed but subsequently removed the torrents for this file.  On ISOhunt in comments someone said it is "nothing but a Trojan".

http://isohunt.com/torrent_details/50824673/?tab=comments

I concur, but normally legitimate sources are listing and linking to this bad file, including gamecopyworld.  Since a lot of you download from there, I didn't want you to be fooled.

Wow, that's crazy about the trojans.  This is why I'll load up a virtual XP environment with MS Virtual PC 2007 and go to sites to get stuff that I need, and then scan it for viruses before moving it over to my host machine.  After that, I just close the virtual PC window and select "do not save changes", and then I don't have to worry about the crazy stuff my browser might catch.

I highly recommend MS Virtual PC 2007 for "sandbox" internet surfing.  It's a free download, and it's a great way to surf the internet and not have to worry about what might be out there.  I've been able to keep my host machine crystal clean as a result, and I always use it when going to GCW or when getting a torrent.

Does that work with Vista?

Just thought I'd give you all a heads up about this.  I am wondering if the gamecopyworld site has been hacked? It's always been very reliable up until now.  I never thought this would happen, but there is a so called Spore crack (that is suppose to be an update to 1.01 for the new patch) linked to gamecopyworld right now (at this address http://gf.wiretarget.com/spore.htm) that contains a Trojan (dl.exe) which installs to C:\Users\Your Account\AppData\Local\Temp

Also, twice today, when I went on the gamecopyworld website pop ups got passed my pop-up blocker.  It opened some random web pages and loaded a similar file as the crack file, JS/downloader, into the Temporary Internet Files Folder, and that's just going to the website not the part where you download the crack file.  The crack file itself loads a defective or phony sporeapp.exe file that contains another, but similar virus, when you click on it, it does not start up the game, but instead loads a Trojan.

10  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: TS2 Store Stuff on: 2008 September 17, 13:59:36
Well I have FT and can see the Ofb column in game.

Yes mostly because Numenor restored the broken Column with CEP.

Quote
18 MAY 2008 - CEP v.8.1 (Kitchen & Bath + more EXTRAS and additions)
New EXTRA released to restore the 2-story Concrete Column (OFB) wiped off by FreeTime.

Just a heads up, if you have Apartment Life installed.  The problem with that version of CEP is that it isn't updated for Apartment Life yet.  While you might restore the column of OFB, this outdated version of CEP causes the recolors to of some objects disappear.
11  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: TUTORIAL: Merging the Maxis neighborhoods. on: 2008 September 17, 12:35:06
The reason you gals and guys are having problems with AL is because SimPE does not recognize sims living in Apartment buildings yet.  IAmTheRed mentioned this in an earlier post.

http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php/topic,4480.msg368010.html#msg368010

That's too much trouble for me moving them out and in, and people who download your merged neighborhoods usually want the lots untouched and exactly as Maxis made them.  I think I will wait for SimPE to recognize sims that are living in apartment buildings before I undertake this.  I've been checking the SimPE QA forum every day.  They seem to be down for maintenance this morning.

I'm still confused as to how you download other people's creatures?

There is two ways.  At the Spore website in the Sporepedia you right click on what you want and save it to the creatures folder.  The other way is in the game if you are able to go online.  Go to the Sporepedia, and under creatures click Search Online.  There is a link under each creation for downloading.

FYI, there's an article in today's Washington Post about the controversy and user reactions over EAxis' DRM. He mentioned that someone has already made a creature called "Ea's DRM Policy" that has its head stuck firmly up its ass.  You can find it quite easily over on the Spore site, and in case it disappears, here's the .png for your viewing and game-adding-to pleasure:

LOL. That looks like a turkey without it's feathers. Sort of fitting don't you think?

Just wanted to let everyone know.  According to this online article (don't know how reliable this information is) if you are using a no-cd crack you can install Spore as many times as you want.  This suggests that a crack bypasses the 3 install limitation.

Umm, simple reading here will indicate that using the no-cd.exe means just that, and also means you don't get SecuROM on your system. This is not news.  Tongue

I was just passing this information on, as people were asking about this earlier in the week.  Of course I knew that you don't get SecuROM on your system with a crack, but there has still been some uncertainty whether or not using a crack would specifically bypass the 3 install limit and allow you to reinstall as many times as you want.

" Hello.

Please start the SecuROM Uninstaller tool with the parameter /fulluninstall, afterwards everything should be removed.

Please find below the instructions:

Code:

Please download it, extract the application file and follow the instructions below:

WARNING:
Hey everyone, I just want to warn you all.  Don't download this file from Tigerlover!  An AVG Scan says it contains a trojan.  Trojan horse SHeur.CILH

Only question I have is, why is the SecuROM support website giving out a link for a file that has a trojan horse in it?

I did have a question. Can you play windowed mode? Is it the same as TS2?

If you press Alt-Enter you can switch quickly between windowed mode and full screen.

I got to the space stage, but I couldn't leave the planet or save.  I was stuck.  I was forced to quit the game without saving and now I am back at civ stage. I've been reading on some other sites that this is a bug or glitch with the game.  Anyone else have this problem or know what the solution is?
Did you play through the "testing" part? I couldn't quit or save the game until I had gone through the testing of ship movement and abducting animals.

It wasn't showing me any tutorials or missions at all.  There was just nothing, I was stuck, and couldn't save.  I've been having this problem where I have to remember to save the game before I click to go to the next stage, then quit the game and restart it because otherwise upon entry to the next stage my game and the game camera is all buggy and glitched and nothings working the way it's suppose to.  It's starting to piss me off.

OMG. It's an avalanche.    As of right now, out of the 1,371 customer reviews on Amazon only 61 are above 2 stars.  A google search with Spore, DRM, and Amazon produces 139,000 hits.  There is tons of write ups about it all over the net.

http://blogs.zdnet.com/hardware/?p=2558

But, unfortunately, EA is so stubborn they'll totally ignore it.  Roll Eyes

If anyone has any suggestions for me.  I just started the Tribal stage.  I have a laptop and having a terrible time translating the mouse maneuvers to touch pad, and I have a terrible camera angle.  It's like I am at ground level and having to look up at them.  Is that how it's suppose to be?  It's so uncomfortable and difficult to navigate that way.

Ah. I always play at the furthest-out view. The videos don't bother me much, but they are short.

The videos are driving me batty.  I wish they'd have a way you can by pass them.  I keep clicking buttons trying to find a way to escape.

Hellno, SucuROM doesn't stop Hellyes!  I can haz none of that SucuROM!

  I have a feeling that's the anti-SucuROM brigade.  Wink

SucuROM aside, I've been playing Spore for about five days, and I would have to say that it's rather repetitive.  I thinkz I will get bored of it before too long.

I've been playing for a day now and I have a problem - The Creature Stage gives me motion-sickness. I like the game but I can't play it through because the camera moves around way too much. I need a static "birds-eye" view type camera or I start dry-heaving. It's like watching Cloverfield all over again. Anyone else having this problem? Any remedies? I can haz Camera hacks plz?

If you press Ctrl + Shift + C to bring up the cheat console, you can type "help" for all the commands.  There is a cheat you can type in to use the free cam mode.  I don't know if that might solve your problem, but it can't hurt to try.
24  Serious Business / Spore Discussions / Re: Lest we forget: SPORE on: 2008 September 08, 02:39:46
Is there any benefit from playing "registered"?   Are you missing out on things if you simply play offline with a no cd crack?

Sorry for all the questions.  I am off the philosophy that it is easier to look dumb and ask a question than to take the time to fix your errors afterward.  Cheesy

There is a noticeable difference when you play online versus offline.  For a few days, I was playing with an Arr'd version offline while awaiting the release day.  Today, as I obtained a legal copy, I uninstalled the Arr'd version and installed the legal copy, put the crack in, and went online quite smoothly.  Then, as I was playing, I was in awe at the invasion of the other player's creatures.  Plus, you can send your creations to your Spore page, and your game stats are added to your online profile, and so forth as well.
25  Serious Business / Spore Discussions / Re: Lest we forget: SPORE on: 2008 September 08, 02:25:51
I do have a "store bought copy."  I got it as an unexpected gift.  I already have the game installed and a no cd in the proper location.  I just haven't done anything else yet til I find out what will get me securom infested and what won't.

Registering it though will use up one of the 3 limited installs correct?

Right.  Each time you use the registration code counts as an install.  If ever you go past the three installs, you have to contact EA and provide your reasons for needing to install again.  I don't know yet if they give you a new one, or just allow your old code through or not.  Time will tell as people reach their limits and tell us what their experience is.
