whahahaha!  Wonderful.. A hook shop.. you could import it to Appaloosa plains and rename it "The Mustang Ranch Too" .. make a ground level entry with one of those horse troughs in the room....make people wonder what the H#!! is going on down there..   In the bar, you can use the hidden tomb door for egress to a secret kink shop behind the bar... or the hook ranch...  yep.. your downloaders can have some fun with that one.  Grin

Thank you for useful answers..  All others commenting on bad grammar/English, lack of ability to use search properly will be promptly targeted with flaming tarry boulders.

It's probably an issue with EADM. Try uninstalling, deleting registry keys, restart the computer and then do a fresh reinstall using your latest bought CD, and then update it if necessary. If it's any consolation, at the moment, after a fresh reinstall and no CC, the launcher works on my computer only if I have EADM open first, it otherwise crashes. I had issues before where I couldn't even download patches or download/upload things to the exchange or download the free things from the store if I installed any of the new EP patches that updated the game without having installed the EP as well. The download/upload issue would usually be solved after installing a new EP/SP.

Thanks. I've always thought EADM/anti-pirate crapola was the cause--and I have a legal, registered copy of the game. I have all EPs and SPs. I have uninstalled TS3, deleted the registry keys, rebooted, and looked at the registry again to make sure I got all of them.  I've reinstalled the game and patched them all - The thing that sucks in all this is the EADM always wants to download those huge EADM patches. I live out in the middle of nowhere on the back side of the Rockies and have satellite internet. It's terribly slow.  It kills my bandwidth to reinstall several times and get the same patches over and over again - But I've done that maybe 5 or 6 times trying to fix it. Unfortunately, I have to wait freaking 30 days for the bandwidth usage meter to roll off.  So I've used the computer at the university in town to download what I could. The patches work but not the store content.

The launcher does work for the older stuff I downloaded before the store downloads broke,  It refuses to download newer stuff.

Lacking the EP/SP is not the issue,  I have them all except the Outdoor Living SP.  I went to EA and downloaded their latest EADM and will see if their newer version fixes the store downloader.

I've also gone through MATY stuff today and downloaded the s3rc busted store pack installer....  And the info about securom.  I'll see what's borked there.  I think it's a borked security lockout because I have lots of CC in my game.

I will do the standard EADM uninstall, cleanup and reinstall, see if that works, if not,  I'll clear out the securom junk and see if the EADM corrects itself. Then I'll come back here and report what worked (if anything)  But it will probably be a few weeks because I live out in the sagebrush sea where only the rumors of high Speed internet are heard.

p.s. Sheeply thanks  ;0)

This is not really the way to get things done around here.

True, but I have been lurking and digging for the answer to this problem and have seen lots of newbies get chewed up for asking questions to which there is an answer somewhere in the bowels of Trogdor but to which I have not found the posting.  I dunno if that was good enough grammer for some here..   I was just prepping.   and I spent time looking for that fiery battlefield!    Grin

Ok.  I've armed my catapult with flammable tarpainted boulders and am ready to light them and let fly at EA.  Why?
IN June 2010, Store downloads broke on Windows 7 32 bit - I can't download from the store.  ****GRRRRRR****  I had a bunch of simpoints simpoints and 'purchased' stuff but it won't download to my game's computer. The download pretends to start, goes through the motions of downloading, creates a boatload of unuseable TMP files in the download directory and then fails, directing me to "See Log for details" - Said invisible log is hidden in an unknown location.

Yea, I wasted hours going through all EA's steps of uninstalling the game, removing remnants from the registry, reinstalling TS3, to no avail.  The game works fine - Can't download the junk I bought.

Last November, I replaced my old drive with a new 2TB drive, format, new partition and completely installed everything from scratch and behold!  Store downloads worked again!  I downloaded a bunch of junk that was previously purchased and it worked! So I was happy for about a month.

I was working on some base game buildings for a group CAW project at MTS and used the Anygame starter 3 so the buildings would be base game compatible and later, after stoopeedly spending $10 at the store to get some washing machines, I found that the ability to download from the store broke AGAIN!  *grrr*

I complained to EA again,  went through the uninstall/reinstall routine again, and it still failed.  I REFUSE to reformat my drive just to get rid of borked EADM download malfuntioning software. SO I demanded my $30 simpoints back and they said no.  We'll give you a coupon to buy stuff at the store.  *grrrrr*

So, thoroughly ticked off, I used my base game and installed that at work on my Windows 7 64bit workstation during lunch and was able to download my store junk.  I put that on a jump drive, took it home but the stoopeed launcher won't install it in the game.  It goes through the motions, but the content refuses to appear in the game.

So  I have  a bunch of SIms3packs, that I stoopeedly paid for, but which refuse to install on my game's computer.   How do I get these things to install?

Thank you for useful answers..  All others commenting on bad grammer/English, lack of ability to use search properly will be promptly targeted with flaming tarry boulders.

11  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Hey Pescado, Your footstep tutorial - how can you make new sounds? on: 2007 January 03, 22:31:50
Hi Pescado, Over at MTS2 you had a short tutorial on how to make the footfall noises to match the new shoe types.   that's fantastic info for me because I didn't know how to do that and needed to know how to fix that.  Is it possible to create new sounds like bells, etc. and if so, how do you add that sound to the game and match it up to the footstep?

What I'm doing is modifying clothing meshes from Maxis parts - changing boots to moccasins but I want to add bell and turtle rattle sounds instead of boot clunks when some of the meshes walk.  You can see what we are doing if you go to the MTS2 project section and look at the N8ive Sims Turtle Island project.  I'm just learning how to mesh and need to learn how to do animations for some of the mesh parts.  Our stuff is not published yet because it's still in development.

Help appreciated.  :0).
12  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Is it Just Me, or is this Community Stingy About Sharing? on: 2007 January 03, 22:23:37
I've been in the IT business for several years. (and I still CAN't Type!  Oh, yea!  that means I'm in IT - we can't type!)  One of the major problems, as has already been discussed here, is that programmers and creators, while they may be excellent at producing products, aren't necessarily able to discuss what they do coherently with lay people.    As J.M.alluded to, programmers look at the immediate problem, not the overview.  So, if you ask them a specific question on how to fix a specific problem, they'll go through that index in their mind and pop out the answer.  Don't expect them to write a manual though.  Programmers type even worse than I do.  :0) They are brilliant, but myopic and tend to be lazy about writing down their spaghetti code.  AND, It takes a lot of time to write stuff well.

What is needed is the rarer person - the one who stands in the door - the one who is not a programmer, but knows enough about what is going on, who will turn around and translate what the programmer has done/said for those who don't have a clue. AND, the door person, needs to be a technical writer.

I've spent a lot of time trudging thorough various sites seeking tutorial content.  Lots of them are fantastic but I've had to bash my head on the keyboard a few times trying to figure out what they were trying to teach me - a lot of it is due to the fact that meshing is a complex subject and you need to be a very good, logical writer to note the exact steps you use.  The main problem is the order in that they tend to present their instructions in inverse order or in illogical steps or use inconsistent labeling.  In stead of giving exact, 1,2,3 steps, they tell you things like,  "Now copy your file to your tutorial folder and extract the cres and save it to your project folder. etc.  (I'm making up those steps.)  In the end, I finally figure out what I am supposed to be doing and re-write the instructions for myself.  But, I am not so rude to post that to the original tutorial author.   i have just about decided to write a start to finish create, modify and add to your mesh tutorial that covers the basics, except, I always find new things that I don't know how to do yet.  :0)

the other problem is bandwidth,.  I've had such terrible connectivity problems (I live out in the middle of nowhere) that I just don't have the time to wait for pages to load, so I just ask and come back later and hope my head doesn't get bit off for not looking in the obvious to them place. So far I have had excellent responses to my specific questions.  Upload files and photos really help clarify the issue.  A skilled mesher can  spot the fact that I've sproinged a mesh and tell me exactly what I did wrong when I didn't have a clue that I'd thought was a great thing, was in actuality that I'd done did a bad thing anyway.  (Now if you can figure out the above content and rewrite it skillfully, you are the next DOCUMENTATION EXPERT!)  :0)

Well, I'll do my best at answering, but I'm not sure I completely understand you.

First off, if you have NL, do you have the NL patch?  Because there is a fix for terrain paints in it and from what you describe with the crashing while trying to package lots, that sounds like the corrupted terrain paints issue.

And as for exporting and saving your Sims, you can do that with SimPE (except someone else will have to explain how, or you can do a search), because I don't know exactly how.

Thanks for answering BlueSoup.  I have OFB.   By the way...   Why do all so-called fathers-suck?   Cheesy
14  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: I broke it - need to import unpacked sims into clean game on: 2006 July 01, 06:26:09
If you open the neighborhood file in SimPE, go to Sim Surgery, select the sim you want and then "use", then select extract. Put the extracted file (it will be their character file number) into your SavedSims folder, open body shop. Clone the sim, save. Now clone the clone (important!), and save. delete the first clone and the other one should disappear as well. You will be left with a functional clone you can package and install, or just leave it so you can select it in CAS. I would only do one or two at a time to avoid confusion, and make sure the character file and the first clone files are deleted. Might take a while, and you will have to redo their aspirations, personalities, etc., but you will be able to get them all back.

lol...hi Blue Tongue

hey thanks nec.  I think you deserve at least a quarter for that one.  :0)
15  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / I broke it - need to import unpacked sims into clean game on: 2006 June 30, 17:34:39
Cheesy  Yep.  I brokeded it.   Roll Eyes    My computer suffered a fatal cof sudden evacuation of the blotated download folder.  It didn't like an empty download folder and refused to reload the game past 29MB - It would just drop out of queue.   (thats what I get for trying to make sure no CC got uploaded to the Exchange.)  Anyhow...  Placing the CC back into the download folder didn't work (probably messed up the neighborhooodmanager.package file... so  I 'saved' the crashed game and reinstalled it.

I've tried several things (one at a time per restart) I copied the neighborhood back into game the and restarted.  The game is cranky, but it opens.  I can see the lots and sims and enter the lots but I am unable to pack them to a file.  I can move the sim fmailies into the family bin and on to a 1x3 empty lot but I can't pack that either.

I want to extract the sims from the game so I can reinstall them into a clean game. Using Sim2pack clean installer, I identified my sims from the (broken) backup and copied those files in succession to teleport, Download, neighborhood n002 character folder, etc. When I open the game, the sims aren't in the bin.  the only place they'll appear is when I put the 'broken' neighborhood manager.package file in teh neighborhood folder.  Theh I can see them in their lots but I can't extract them..

Any ideas?  way to fix it.  :0)  Help is appreciated.

Thanks!

17  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Questions about NPC vampires campy Bella Lugosi walk. on: 2006 April 12, 21:48:52
Yep. I'm not a vampire fan so I went and cured my vamps with vamprocillin. Unfortunately, they still do the Bella Lugosi walk (left arm hiding mouth.)

Since I couldn't get them to act normally, I made them marry each other and moved them into the old vampire mansion downtown.   Now I'm waiting to see if their kids walk around all campy.

Does anyone know how to fix their walk or is that hardwired into their characters?  I used InSIMenator and selected normal sim state and normal sim walk.  nuttin.  Undecided

18  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: My ugliest in-game born child EVER! *Now with discernible features!* on: 2006 April 12, 19:50:45
I think the InSimenator will allow you to do a face lift for the kid. Facelift basically gets you into build-a-sim screen so you can rearrange the kids face.
19  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Computer Woes and how to get around certain *ahem* restrictions on: 2006 April 12, 19:42:58
So, my computer went kablooie on the weekend.  Long story short, my CD drive stopped reading as a valid drive and kept getting corrupted somehow (the computer store guy said something about the CD burner software).

Anyway, I reinstalled Windows XP Pro and reformatted my computer and now everything is working fine.  I couldn't find all of my recovery disks and so I used my mom's Dell XP Pro installation CD.  Problem is, the activation required doesn't work with my comp because it's already recognized on hers.  How do I get around this activation?  Is it going to make my OS stop working?  Or will the only repercussion be that I can't download certain Microsoft programs (like Anti-Spyware as a I already discovered)?

Ouch!  If it was just the software and driver for your CD, you didn't need to reinstall your OS - just the drivers/cd software. If your computer is still in warranty, you should be able to go to your vendor and get replacement disks.

Activation - Your mom's computer has a single user license that's registered in her name. Sure you physically could install it on your computer but you'll have problems whenever you want to add hardware, get updates, etc.  Microsoft has a validation process that checks to see if you paid for your copy and a single user license will only work for the original user/computer.

Another question, about partitioning.  When I was reformatting, I saw I had 2 partitions (my OS came already installed, so this is the first I've seen of it), and I have no idea how to make partitions bigger, smaller, delete them, use them, etc.  The smaller of the two was about 4gigs, and then the main was the rest.

What is it for?  What's the best config to make it all run smoothly?  Someone at work mentioned installing the OS on the smaller one, and then keeping all your main stuff on the big one, so if you have to reinstall, you don't lose all your stuff (seeing as, you know, my CD drive was corrupt).

Thanks in advance for reading this rambling post that may not make any sense at all!  Tongue

I recommend that you don't mess around with your partitions.  You could make your computer non functional.  You need certain kinds of software and drivers to create a computer configuration from scratch.  If you have some friends who experienced in computer builds, consult with them.

I don't recommend that you practice on your primary computer until you get the hang of computer builds.  However, if you have a victim computer to practice on, go head on. Learn what you can.  :-)  You could probably find someone's old computer to practice on.  LOL - building computers is FUN!  and when the hardware gets outdated, you can recycle them and make those old 32MB RLL drives (6"x4"x10") into conversational piece doorstops!   Yea... one of these days I'll get rid of them... but I'm rather fond of my dinosaurs...   Roll Eyes
20  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Business Owner are unemployed? on: 2006 April 06, 17:35:29
Being 'unemployed' whle owning a business doesn't bother me. What bugs me though, is when my sims call someone who does have a job somewhere and a person at the house, usually the wife, rudely answers the phone with something like. "No. He's at work, working, unlike someone who's calling."  Implying that my sim is a bum because they aren't employed by someone.

22  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: Money Order- Send Money To Other Sims on: 2006 March 24, 21:58:17
Weeeellllll...technically true,    Roll Eyes  buuuuttt...  Since the sending family has a cash making goddess in thrall.... It really is kinda like cheating...    Wink

In a roundabout way it is because the sending family can just generate some more simoleons....  It solves a problem I made for myself.

I made a mistake of giving a family a double last name - "Monster Slayer".  I can't use the familyFunds cheat on them because it won't accept their last name with a space in it.  So I had to give them a grandpa with an single last name. Grandpa fixed that householdsname problem and it worked till the kids moved out and set up their own households.  I didn't want to invent new relatives and move them in and motherlode is kinda slow when you are trying to get them to buy out the deeds for the new shopping district. :-)  The money order is handy.  "Heh.. uh... Dad...  can you front me a few hundred grand?"

I have another family with a non-hyphen hyphenated name - "Runs Behind".  For that family they have different first names, all that Runs as the middle name (unless I forget to name the new kiddies properly) and Behind as the last name.  The InSIMenator allows me to rename the first names of the married-ins.

One of these days, I'll learn how to mesh properly and upload some N8tive sims and objects.  Then you can meet the families.

23  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: Money Order- Send Money To Other Sims on: 2006 March 17, 17:04:09
Kewl!  This is a way to send money to certain families in OFB.  When there are siblings in the same neighborhood, the FamilyFunds {lastname} +[amount]  doesn't work unless you move the family to the bin.   In OFB, moving them off their house lot kills their business and relationships!

I'll try this.   Grin

Do I use cheats?!! Of course I do... After all, it's a fantasy simluation game.. I sure ain't rich... so my sims oughta be...   Cheesy

I'd like a SA4 terrain that has lots of beach front locations for beachbum housing and resort locations.  It can be a irregular coast with sandy inlets.  Some streets can be close together and others spread out for pallatzos. (Ritzy places)
