Pescado, you can stop shouting at me now - it's updated for LN sliders.
27  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Service Initialization Failed (0x0175dcbb) on: 2010 November 20, 03:12:06
My only suggestion would be to bite the bullet and do a fresh install, and use the patcher from MTS to download a new patch before installing the next EP/SP.  Doing that will get you a full patch to hang on to so next time if you need to install you won't have to work through a lot of patches.

Yeah, I might try doing it that way this time around - last time I installed all of them at once and THEN patched them all using the MTS patcher. It's the first time I've had this problem with the game ever, and it's also the first time I've patched them all at once so I'll go back to my old way of doing it and see if that helps. Given no one has posted a reasonable way of fixing this that works, I'll be sure to post an update if it does fix it.

I use 2010 norton...so not exactly a mom and pop indie AV. Can we stick to the thread issue though instead of derailing into CCleaner beefs?
29  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Service Initialization Failed (0x0175dcbb) on: 2010 November 15, 03:38:09
I just got the same error, but it occurred for me after stupidly letting the launcher apply the latest patch. I tried patching manually only to find an error in the World Adventures patch (for region 1, at least). Might it be a hidden patching problem?

...

Did you read the part of the OP where I said I was patched up to date? It's not a patching issue and I don't use the launcher. My WA is region 2.

Did you try using CCleaner? If it really is a registry thing, that might clean it up. If it doesn't help and you do wind up uninstalling, it might be a good idea to run it before you reinstall, too.

I'm not confident in CCleaner, the last time I used it it wiped out not only long-dead registry values but it also wiped out half the registry values for my anti-virus and my PC got royally borked because my anti-virus started to make my PC bluescreen on startup when the info was noticed as missing.
31  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Service Initialization Failed (0x0175dcbb) [SOLVED] on: 2010 November 14, 10:17:20
****SOLVED 21/11/10: uninstall and then go into your registry and manually DELETE all references to the sims 3 and eps, then reinstall**

After spending hours today reinstalling and the game working fine aside from my CC refusing to show up due to a corrupted resources.cfg, I'm suddenly getting this error and I'm at a loss for what could be causing it and how to fix it so I'm looking for ideas and suggestions I might not have tried.

Googling the error message itself wasn't much of a help; there's only 2 results for it on MTS2 and while one fixed it, they closed their thread without posting how they fixed it except to say "cleared user data" and the mods have now locked it down. The other result stated that it was a problem with the registry and the path for the game - I checked my registry and every EP and SP points to the right targets and the sims3.reg suggestion made no difference.

No one here on MATY seems to have posted about this problem before, anyone that has gotten the "Unable to start game: Service Initialization Failed" error has a different registry string at the end of it and is related to patching, which doesn't apply here because the game is fully patched.

I removed all my CC, including the framework and the fresh resources.cfg I had just installed, with no luck. I know a common fix for the game is to delete caches, I deleted all of them without any luck and the final thing I tried just now was a total wipe of my EA folder in My Documents. My game rebuilt the shell folders, but instead of rebuilding them all as it has previously, my The Sims 3 folder now looks like this:

Does anyone have any suggestions on ways to try and fix this issue before I just do a total wipe and spend another bajillion hours reinstalling? I have all EPs and SPs installed and I'm on Vista SP1, 64-bit with 8gb of RAM and a 2.6ghz quad core, so I don't think it's a hardware issue.

Dark Trepie acts conciderably white.

If that's not a Jim Butcher reference, you're a fucking toolbag.

KIKIS LIKE THIS.

This is the first I've really seen of TS3 vampires and wow...I'm actually kinda impressed. ULTIMATE DARK TREPIE looks malicious, brooding and hella cool.

Baa. I quite like this layout. I plan to change the colourscheme but it's quite good and doesn't look like it will result in shouty routefail.
36  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: CAW makes my computer scream. on: 2010 October 09, 14:28:21
Any idea why or how to stop it?

Turn your computer off, stop using CAW or you could always take the fans out so they don't spin so fast and make so much noise.

I've also heard running high powered magnets over your hard drives will also prevent a whine and create seamless disk usage which lowers taxation on the system, thus saving your need to even deal with cooling fans...

39  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Pudding Factory / Re: Prima Guide for Ambitions on: 2010 June 09, 08:22:32
I bought the prima guide in book form.  I'm just old school, like that.  I have already found several instances where it just wrong.  For instance it said that the bake sale table is for toddler use but teens and adults could buy from it and children and evil adults could steel $ from it; it is actually for children to sell from, not toddlers.  So far it really hasn't given me too much information that I hadn't already figured out.  It does tell you how to solve all the investigation cases.  I don't plan on reading that section unless I get really stumped.  All in all, I think the book sucks.

Steal. Steel is something completely different.

Sim bonghit went up long enough ago that she probably just had a change of style?

42  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: FMS limiter limiting FPS in an undesirable way after installing HELS on: 2010 February 15, 22:30:16
If your game is rendering at 2k FPS, you'll have a lump of melted down graphics card soon. FPS Limiter does give you the option of increasing or decreasing the FPS maximum, you know. If 30 is too low for you (no reason why it should be unless you're making over-bloated, stupidly high-poly pieces of crap no one in their right mind should download) then you can manually increase it but you shouldn't need to - I have a bomb-diggity graphics card (why yes, that IS the technical term) and the FPS limiter works seamlessly for me on full graphics settings.

Its not too low. 30 is what I've had it set at since the day I got the game. It just seems like it's not working properly anymore, post HELS installation for whatever reason. :\ It does the same at 60, too, btw.

I blame tight pants then, because I have HELS and FPS works fine for me.

I just installed. I didn't remove anything. So...all that crazy crap you're doing is totally irrelevant.

It's a force of habit to remove mods to an alternative folder before you update not only because it can potentially cause borkage but also because EA used to be hit and miss on whether or not it would wipe out all your CC when you installed new EPs and SPs.
45  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Got High End Loft Stuff two days early . . . for all the good it does me. on: 2010 February 06, 03:07:06
I think the trick is to patch, remove AwesomeMod and  THEN install HELS. My friend that manages an EB finally managed to pirate cat one off the shelves for me and I patched the base game and WA before I installed HELS and it all went through without a hitch - my patches went through perfectly, HELS installed no problems and then I just had to make to drop my packages back into my mods folder with my resource.cfg files. Obviously because I didn't reinstall from scratch I have to have AM updated to HELS compatibility before I can get playing again, but that's no biggie.
46  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Pudding Factory / Re: EA store stuff in *.dbc format - a torrent on: 2010 February 01, 10:42:20
I'm confirming that if you're on Vista (I use 64-bit) you need to not only put them in the DCC Cache that is in your documents folder, but you need to put the files into your mods/packages folder too. For Vista, you do need to have them in both places.

My game is currently on our Vista machine, I only have the .dbc files in my Mods. None of them are in My Documents. If Riverview isn't working for you, you missed something, I have mine working fine.

If I put the dbc files in my mods/packages, then they won't show up - for some reason I need them in the documents DCC cache too.
47  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Got High End Loft Stuff two days early . . . for all the good it does me. on: 2010 February 01, 01:25:16
So what's the moral of this tight pants story kiddlets? BACK UP YOUR CC AND MODS BEFORE ADDING EPS AND SPS. About half that paragraph wasn't required if you'd done the logical thing first...it's not like it's the new thing to do either - we've been removing mods and CC to update since TS1 days.

I'm still calling L&P until we get solid evidunce though.

I have everything working except for riverview...which I never play with anyway so I'm not too fussed.

Why is your dog pink, anyway?

I think it's because her sim pic used to have a red face and people made comments about it having a retarded red face, at the time she'd already switched to this one so I think it's an attempt at lulz.
