Edit: Now I'm getting a 'we were unable to verify that your disc is valid' error. Ugh. I tried re-patching, but to no avail. Will this thing ever work?

Awesomemod requires patch 1.8, or 2.3 if you've got WA installed, I have no idea if this is the cause however. You mentioned earlier that your version number is at 1.5, but despite patching higher?

I had to do things in the right order to get it all to work (took some time to work it all out let me tell you):

  • install the base game and patch to 1.5 using the file provided on the WA disc (/support/Updates - ask if you don't know which to use)
  • install any custom content that requires the launcher now - some Store stuff won't install before patching to 1.5, and apparently you can't use the version 1.8 launcher to install CC without melting everything
  • install WA if you want (this requires you to be at version 1.5)
  • apply the 1.8/2.3 patches - USING THE LAUNCHER TO INSTALL CC AFTER THIS CAUSES BAD SHIT TO HAPPEN
  • install Awesomemod

As far as I can judge, this is the required order and must be followed every time you install the game.

Run the game after every step to make sure it loads/CC appears etc.

Anyway, if you're installing patches and the version number isn't updating, I would suggest that something bad is happening and you probably need to uninstall and start again. After uninstalling I suggest deleting all folders/files left behind and starting from scratch. Make sure you're using the right patches (the long version number should end the same as the version you're on - 00002 probably)

Update: Found this site describing the Nvidia driver issue, followed the instructions (uninstall Nvidia drivers, download and reinstall the previous ones) and it works! *phew*

Here's hoping I haven't now crippled some other game which needed those drivers...wishful thinking?

Same problem, screen goes black then crashes to desktop, 3booter made it happen over and over. I hadn't played for a while, got WA today, patched from 1.5 to 1.8, installed WA, patched from 2.0 to 2.3, downloaded Awesomemod, FPS limiter and 3booter again, followed instructions for file placement and then tried to run the game.

Did that help at all?

No, I meant that's what I did before I tried to play today, at which point I started experiencing the blackscreen-crashtodesktop problem.

Since I last posted I've uninstalled everything, deleted caches, removed Awesomemod etc etc and even a fresh install of the base game with no patches crashes in the same way. I've got nvidia, if it's relevant, and I suppose it's possible that I updated drivers since I last played the Sims. I'm surprised more people haven't had this problem if that's the cause, however.

Thoughts?

Erm, quick question - Pescado mentioned in an update something about the last patch being integrated into AwesomeMod, but also included a link (now broken) to the patch. So, do we need to patch our games if we're using AwesomeMod or not?

I'm a code cracker, i have some knowledge  of c  c++   asm instructions.  I've studied programming but never coded.

Isn't that a bit like like studying food but never eating it?

If your Sim is better qualified for the job than the current Sim who has it, they should be demoted or something and your Sim get the job. Make it so, Pescado!

See, he gets us all hooked, gives us some half-assed excuses about older versions being evil, and then screws up one update and leaves us in the lurch like this. One is almost tempted to wonder if he enjoys causing anguish...

Yeah mine crashes also.

My sims seldom die of natural causes, but I do remember having Grim and the HUla Zombies show up when one of my platinum oldsters died.

O.o

Hula zombies!?

Hey cool idea! Whether or not it was cheap of Maxis to use Sims 1 music in OfB I certainly enjoyed travelling back in time to Sims 1 days when I heard it!

I remember playing the first game a while ago...the graphics are shocking in comparison to today's game, I could hardly play it Cheesy
11  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Body Skill with Stairs - Mod Request and/or Discussion on: 2006 June 20, 21:31:57
I never thought of it that way...so it does have a use!

Though I don't really like married sims having affairs Sad it's anathema to the perfect world that exists in my 'hood!
12  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Body Skill with Stairs - Mod Request and/or Discussion on: 2006 June 19, 10:16:58
That's precisely why. I never go for a spin, because what's the point in losing a sim for an hour or whatever? I just don't like it. As for getting the alarm installed, I take the sim running off as payment for the alarm.
13  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Body Skill with Stairs - Mod Request and/or Discussion on: 2006 June 18, 21:36:55
If you couldn't call them back quickly I would never use that, though it's a nice idea. Jogging around the lot would be fun!

If body skill can't be built climbing staircases, What about a new object, two steps from a whole set of stairs, which the sim walks up and down (without turning) while increasing the body skill! You get them in real life, I guess they have some fancy name  Undecided

There are also different ways of showing nudity - it can be a natural progression of events in a film, and without any desire to shock, merely to interpret a novel or play, or it can be done with the intent to titillate, and therefore it will shock some viewers.

*giggle* titilate!
15  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Eat the Birthday Cake! on: 2006 May 18, 22:21:11
Maybe there should be a snapdragon challenge:  How long can you go without ever buying groceries...

Ok..so I'll put my sim to bed, line the room with snapdragons...and wait for my computer to die? Cos that'll happen before the Sim will need groceries! Or, indeed, anything.  Grin

There are a few known bugs with restaurants, although what exactly is wrong with them is unknown. In my game, I had problems with some kind of corrupted favorite food tokens, apparently because the format for NL and OFB food tokens was changed, and I wrote a mini-hack to simply zap the problem, but given that no one else reports the problem, I haven't put it out yet. I figure it might be an oddity confined to my own game.

Would this be the same problem?

I get the squiggly lines of doom every now and then when customers (all townies) are browsing the menu at playable sims' restaurants and then when someone tries to "sell" them the menu. I haven't seen them on any playable sims while at a restaurant though.

...are those squiggly lines...people? There appears to be a green-faced one in the middle, on his knees with the back of his hand to his head and his elbow in the air...can you see it too?
17  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Elevator and kite flying death pics, etc. on: 2006 May 09, 16:43:13
Now now, so Maxis found a way to enable lightning!

Maybe we will have weather later than.

Now I must try the elevator and kite.  Looks humurously deadly.  Cheesy

Simslice has a weather station that works pretty ok. I don't think it kills simmies though.
His hack is such that it won't rain inside the house which is pretty awesome, imho.

I heard that Maxis wanted to include weather in this game, but it was either impossible or just too difficult to make it rain outside and not inside...

It sucks that the bats don't fly up through the middle, that's what I was hoping for.
I believe bats CAN cross object barricades (although they usually don't try it at all). Just not "true" barricades.

Hmm. Is there a hack in here? Could bats be made to actively seek object barriers they are allowed to cross?

So...like go from by the TV in the lounge, to the fridge in the next room...via the sofa in the bathroom? O.o What if you had twenty vampire sims and told 'em all to fly about, they could all flocked like a swarm of wing-ed death towards the sofa minding its own business in the bathroom!
