It's not true that DDR isn't sold anymore.  It's still sold, it's just expensive.

Yeah, the point is why should I pay this much for outdated RAM type to a computer which is 3 years old already and in another two will need a complete replacement anyway. It's not like this 1GB RAM extra is going to make my computer work like a new multi-core machine and run StarCraft 2. Sometimes it's just not worth it.

The nVidia program doesn't seem to show info on temperature. It seems it's just to configure monitor for dummies who can't use the buttons. Maybe with a few additional options.
102  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: types of gemstones? on: 2009 June 26, 14:57:43
I had a sim collect a ton of gem stones and find everything else but the pink one. I even used the map that suggests the places the pink stones are supposed to appear at, but I never had luck finding any. According to the guide, I think the pink gem stone is the most valuable one, so it makes sense it's also the hardest one to find.

I got two pink, one was next to a grave when I got the burial ground challenge, another as I mentioned - somewhere behind the stadium. It only spawned there once, though, and I go on collector route every couple of days. No luck with rainbow so far.

Also, more RAM is recommended, a stick of 2GB only costs about 20+ USD now.
I was trying to get more RAM two years ago, when buying the card. The problem is my computer has AMD processor and it can only use old DDR1 type of RAM which I was told was dropped by 2007. It appears therefore it is not sold anymore, unless you count second-hand on eBay. In short: adding more RAM would mean replacing the main board and processor as well. I need a couple more bucks for that, you see.

I occasionally get artifacts and sometimes game crashes that I think have something to do with my video card, GeForce 8800. Sometimes textures are randomly replaced by others (like an island covered with a checkered red and white pattern looking like a giant picnic blanket), sometimes there are yellow triangular streaks across the screen. A couple of times the game has crashed to the desktop. However, they appear completely randomly, and often I can play for 6+ hours straight with no problems, so I'm not sure if it's an overheating problem or maybe just something random wrong with the card. I had similar problems in TS2 with this card, although more severe. For now I've decided to deal with it, since it happens so rarely. Since my video card drivers were updated a couple of days ago the problem hasn't appeared (yet).
Seems like the same problem. It doesn't happen very often here, as well. Less than 10 times total in four weeks of active playing.
I never experienced this with the sims 2, though. Only random blue screens (sending error info option linked me to a page saying it was hardware problem and advising to get rid of hardware causing it). But sims 2 could pull in 1280x1024 and I played it in full screen mode, sims 3 freezes like hell when I try that, so I play in window mode. Might be the reason.

http://sims.wikia.com/wiki/Collecting_(The_Sims_3)

I found pink diamond somewhere behind the stadium. It only appeared there once, though. It's totally random. Presumably if you search for long enough you will find it.
105  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Evil resource devourer and texture bug on: 2009 June 26, 09:11:05
Well, I only have 1GB RAM and the game eats around 700MB according to the list of processes. Should I open one more program and the computer is basically overloaded.

You think my GeForce 8500 is dying? I wouldn't be surprised - these cards are crap I heard (unfortunately after I bought mine). It has a long history of harware errors (mostly on the sims 2) that caused blue screen of death. However, it works perfectly fine if computer isn't overloaded. Also, this texture error never occured in any other games nor 3D programs.
About heat problems - don't they cause immediate shutdown?

I'll try to update drivers, haven't done that for a few months now. I'll report back if the problem persists, so far it hasn't happened too often.
106  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Evil resource devourer and texture bug on: 2009 June 25, 21:06:46
This sort of things seems to happen to TS3 when computer is short of RAM.

Did anyone else experience this?
107  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: I like ghosts on: 2009 June 20, 20:14:08
Funniest haunting I've seen so far was when my ghost haunted the decoration on the bottom of the pool.

Mine possessed money tree!
108  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Wishes for Book Reading: Which books are which? on: 2009 June 20, 15:40:51
Borked wants? Not surprised here. My sim parents roll in want for their adult kids to get married no matter if these kids are already married or not.
109  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Who is this Fugly Pudding, and why is he in my portrait? on: 2009 June 20, 15:30:16
I don't think it's a retarded "Feature", I think it's just a placeholder because the game doesn't freeze the game while mere thumbnails are being processed, so it just throws something up.

How come it shows empty portraits/bubbles in my game then when it's processing?
110  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Hidden Items on: 2009 June 19, 15:16:54
I have tried it on the fridge and the stupid Gnome that moves around.

The gnome moves? I only saw it stand up in a funny pose, it never really moved from the spot.
111  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Objects I miss on: 2009 June 19, 15:12:06
It's all hugely marketing. I remember talking to a guy who designed and animated 3D figures. He said it's would be quite easy to create a system allowing each player to create custom hairstyles in the sims. EA won't ever introduce that, though, since if they did, they wouldn't be able to mooch money from hairstyles in sim store.

Stick the guitar in the sim's inventory then only that sim can use it, and they will be able to use it under free will.  This is how you can avoid TS2-style flypaper-instruments.
Yeah, but they also like to use it all the time, also at 3AM in a room where everyone is sleeping:(
I agree with all people who mentioned there should be more musical instruments and the skill hold name "music" or something of that kind.

And I really, really miss the ability to customize lot sizes. About half the lots in Sunset Valley are far bigger than I like to build on. I want compact, dense residential areas, not sprawling McMansions and suburban horrors.
I kinda took it for granted that I'd be able to shape the city to my will, like I could in SimCity games. But poop. I can't even place lots where I like. We're back to the sims 1.

I also really miss NL-style chemistry and dating. Right now it feels like there's no reason to have a Sim choose any other Sim in particular for a match-up, other than "My biological clock is ticking, I need a mate NOW, and you're standing in front of me." Sims are not turned on or turned off by other personality traits, they don't care about hair color; I haven't played a Snob Sim or one with a LTW related to money, but I somewhat doubt those Sims will really care much about the financial status of romantic possibilities, either. Love is simply a vending machine in TS3.
Oh yeah. I'd also love to see sims completely love-dazzed and ready to completely change their appearance, just so they seem attractive to the chosen one. Oh, and I wish I could play match-maker - you know, make some neighbors meet and try to get them hooked together:D It could've been hilarious.

I know it's not an object, but I miss LOTFULLOFSIMS the most right now. 6 screaming larvae isn't enough for me! I can fit in at least 22 more before the first one toddlers up! Someone make this possible, please!
I've been searching for that. You can't even marry off a sim with household full and if you move them out, they will never marry their partner or produce a child the natural way. I know I could handle 12 buggers under one roof.

I'm actually surprised there aren't any shelves, I just end up holding all collectibles in inventories or selling them off, because the aligning on drawers/tables is somehow borked.
The next in line I miss are hot tub and wedding arch. Big aquarium for fishies and something like that for bugs, too (or alternatively nailing them to a board on a wall >:})

I also kinda hope some forgotten items from sims1 will be recycled someday, eg. the lab or the cool brick oven in which you could make bread... (I hope for an EP as good as MM for sims 3, witches in AL really sucked).

I'm wondering when EA finally decides to add bunk beds. It'd unbelievable there aren't any so far:(

From interactions - they're rather good, though could be better - eg. it's kinda dull you can't interact with neighbors' kids they're carrying around. Or I got a situation in which my sim was visiting her neighbor, they were watching TV and the set broke down. My sim had "good" trait and 9 in mechanics, so I made her fix it, the neighbors found it inappropriate. There should be an option "offer repair", because I believe it's what a good person knowing something about repairs would do in such situation.
112  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Can't finish Omniplant Opportunity on: 2009 June 19, 12:45:47
I think you need to have graves on the lot for Deathfish to properly show in a pond.
But they are there even during daytime, not only at night like on the graveyard lot.
113  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Razor1911 release vs. Reloaded release on: 2009 June 06, 21:36:08
I have a stupid question. Does my region depend on what I chose at installation or does it verify somehow differently?
Just curious which region I actually have and how heavily further downloads will depend on it:S
114  Darcyland / Lord Darcy Investigates / Re: Pie Menu Text Strings Fix (Updated 2008/11/19) on: 2008 December 11, 07:47:19
Exactly where? STR# 0x0000012E of PersonGlobal has "Fly to Work" and "Fly to School", but I see no asterisk.

Pescado told me about those strings beginning with asterisk. They are not intended to be displayed, so no translation is necessary.

Just checked it. Only Danish actually. But it does display. Somebody must've pressed the wrong key. It should be "Flyv i skole" without an asterisk.

Thanks for the cauldron fix again.
115  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Run the game without installing? on: 2008 November 27, 18:59:46
That doesn't work. TS2 installs really stupidly, so instead of storing all its registry crap under a sensible single tree, it craps all over the place in incomprehensible hexgibberish.

I think the entries are under EA Games and Electronic Arts. At least it looks so when you take a look through the registry.
116  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Run the game without installing? on: 2008 November 27, 09:34:12
Oh please, surely you don't seriously imagine that manually copying the contents of 20 CDs and then manually editing hundreds of lines of registry is likely to be quicker and less hassle than a conventional install?

By "copy the files" I meant the game files I currently have on my HD. Oh, man, I must've sounded like a retard if you thought I wanted to copy raw contents of the disks...
And there aren't many registry entries for the game. Like three groups at most. And you extract a group as a whole.

Installing from the disks takes a few hours. Adding previously extracted registry entries and moving files from one partition to another is a few minutes.
But question is if anyone has tried that for the Sims 2? I know programs that will not work if treated this way (possibly they store some files outside the game folder or modify system files), that's why I ask. Of course, I can test myself in the end, but for such a huge game I thought it to be likely that someone has tried it before.
117  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Run the game without installing? on: 2008 November 27, 07:41:58
The game has to make changes in files other than just C:/Program Flies/EA Games/Etc. to run.
Oh, that would explain why your computer slows down after having installed it... But seriously - does each and every EP and SP does that? Reducting installation to just half would be a  great relief...

Besides, how would you actually put those 20 CDs in at the same time?
Not at the same time - one after another. (Oh, well, forgot about one extra where I keep patches, bless dad for extra drive).
And like half of them are actually DVDs. This is a huge game...
118  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Run the game without installing? on: 2008 November 26, 22:47:50
However, if you doubt the authority of those who bother to post to your thread, why not test it yourself?

Easy, man. I'm just asking if anyone has tested it already.
119  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Borked alien family trees on: 2008 November 26, 19:18:22
Is there some way I can fix the sims so that the family tree is displayed correctly?

SimPE. I tested it and it works with fine with M&G. Just go to the family ties and fix 'em.
Nothing like that occured to my game, but then again I try to keep abduction rate under control and I don't really need extra PTs.
120  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Run the game without installing? on: 2008 November 26, 18:56:03
Sorry, no shortcuts.

That means "no" because you have tested it?
121  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: M&G carpet failure on: 2008 November 26, 16:45:38
Same thing happens if you place rugs diagonally Sad
122  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Run the game without installing? on: 2008 November 26, 16:31:54
I've managed to screw my system because of SP3 and I will have to reinstall.
Since the game is on like 20 disks + extra work patching, hacking (begone evil SecuROM!) it and adding essential fixes, I'm wondering whether it's possible to just copy the files and add necessary registry entries for it to work.

I sucessfully played the Sims 1 like that, but I know some games and programs just bork.

Has anyone tried to skip the installation? Did it work?
123  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Steampunkish Servos on: 2008 November 26, 16:06:01
For human-looking servos: isn't it enough to age them to whichever age with the aging cheat or sim modder and then age back to adult (same method)? Of course you need the Clothing Rack tool to fix their face and outfits, since they can't plan/change appearance (at least if you're patched).

They also switch to default if you change witch/wizard alignment. Clothing Rack saves the day. The switch back occuring randomly sorts out when you make them change clothes.

I cloned my servos from existing sims (their creators>:{D) and then changed the skintone to mannequin. The only problem I had with the skin was that while changing skintone in SimPE for females only the face changes and body remains the same. I think it's a program or game bug, cause that happens for all sims, not only servos. Changing age fixes the problem.
124  Darcyland / Lord Darcy Investigates / Re: Pie Menu Text Strings Fix (Updated 2008/11/07) on: 2008 November 26, 08:05:09
Like translating Macrotastics?
Yes. You should show up in grah so we can work through this.

I've been thinking about this. This would reduce the number of strings, too. I could provide you with Danish version, but I need the things to translate in a text file.

I noticed yet another thing. Before "Fly to school" action for no reason there's an asterisk ("*"). I believe it's like that in all languages.
125  Darcyland / Lord Darcy Investigates / Re: Pie Menu Text Strings Fix (Updated 2008/10/18) on: 2008 October 18, 19:47:59
In Norwegian, Everyday and PJs use "Kle på...", while Outerwear uses "Kle...". Which one should I use?
Actually I don't speak Norwegian, but they used "Kle på" both for one toddler and more toddlers in original game. I'd stick to that for outdoors, then.

No, "Dance Together", "Slow Dance" and "Dance.../Classic" are all scattered in other languages too.
All 3 dances now show up under "Dance..." in English, German, French, Danish and Korean. If anyone has better suggestion for translated text, please let me know.
Sweet. Slow dance is back to the menu now. I'm either blind or it went missing after some EP.

More mess:
Someone mentioned messed buying potions from the matchmaker.
In Danish they appear under "Køb drik", "Køb mikstur" and "Køb eliksir". Best change all to "Køb eliksir", to match with the cauldron.

Speaking of potions and cauldron...
The cauldron is more messed up than it seemed at first sight. Some names of potions don't correspond with names given to actual objects. Here's the corrected version of the strings:
Lav eliksir.../Plantophic-C should be Lav eliksir.../Vita-Visno
Lav eliksir.../Kærlighedseliksir nr. 8,5 should be Lav eliksir.../Elskovsdrik
Lav eliksir.../ReNuYu-transpotyller should be Lav eliksir.../FahNihDien-transpotyller
Lav mange eliksirer.../Plantophic-C should be Lav mange eliksirer.../Vita-Visno
Lav mange eliksirer.../Kærlighedseliksir nr. 8,5 should be Lav mange eliksirer.../Elskovsdrikke
Lav mange eliksirer.../ReNuYu-transpotyllere should be Lav mange eliksirer.../FahNihDien-transpotyllere

These lacked/wrongly used capital letters (rushing work is bad Angry dear translators)
(Here are corrected strings):
Interactions:
Påvirk.../Drik Farvellerhek-S ($local:0)
Påvirk.../Drik Fortryllet essens af hundehaler ($local:0)
Påvirk.../Drik Magisk krydret sukker ($local:0)
