26  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Game throws new Curve on: 2005 November 17, 01:55:02
The other night I had a sim downtown to pick up some new clothes and a bunch of Townies and Downtownies were interacting in the arcade. I wasn't paying a lot of attention, just letting my sim blow off some steam after shopping, and then I notice one Townie kiss another and they both grew little pink hearts. I didn't know that could happen, either.

Now I'm trying to fulfill their destinies, and I'm getting the playable sim who was downtown at the time to be friends with one so the Townies can move in to the neighborhood and live happily ever after. Assuming that neither is a Romance Sim.  Wink

More pics for Dylan and everybody else. These are the other three toddlers, and I have a pic of Gilbert as a child. There's a little stink coming off one pic; don't worry--it's not the green alien skin cracking through.

And after seeing those baby pics from all of you, I'm rather glad I never had anybody abducted before Dylan's skin and TJ's mod.  Lips sealed

I possessed him to do that, lol
I can't believe you didn't know about that!

I missed that thread somehow, too. But from what I've seen on the boards, you have a particular gift, not for torturing Sims, but for annoying the daylights out of them.  Cheesy

And I can just imagine the gameplay: a very puzzled Don with a gaggle of toddlers who have imprinted on him and follow him like goslings.
29  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: babies, babies everywhere... on: 2005 November 02, 14:32:17
I sure hope you downloaded the improved PT (with the nice facial structure) I made, not just the skin...

Oh yeah. Pointy ears and all. But the genetics are funny: the first baby has pointy ears, non-Vulcan eyebrows. The twins have regular ears and the Vulcan eyebrows. The fourth isn't old enough yet, but I'll let you know.

Are you keeping them, or was it merely a test?

I'm rather fond of the little ones. My first abduction babies. I'm keeping them.

Also: I'd love to see them as toddlers if possible.  Cheesy

I think I can arrange that, but you'll have to wait until the fourth toddlerizes. In the meantime, you can have a closeup of the oldest of them.

EDIT: Ha! I just noticed how well his shirt coordinates with his skin.

So I DL TwoJeffs's telescope hack, since I've never had an abduction in my game. I also DL Dylan's gorgeous alien skins. To test all this out, I put 3 knowledge guys in a house, have 'em stare into space. In less than a week, all three get abducted, one day after the next.

...You see where I'm going with this? Because it's a TS2 law that twins will be born whenever the timing is worst. So yeah, I have 3 toddlers and a baby right now, quite unintentionally.

Not a bug, but a bummer nonetheless: anybody else notice that the toddler potty-training trick doesn't work post-patch?
32  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: NaNoWriMo! on: 2005 October 04, 15:32:23
What dizzy-two *should* have written was:

"A good writer can do that standing on HIS head."

You can avoid all of this by making the subject plural: "Good writers can do that standing on their heads."

And it's actually a pronoun agreement error.

/pedantry
33  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Nightlife bugs on: 2005 September 18, 04:04:33
And dont get me started on paying 5 grand and getting some elder who just stands around massaging her aching back, lehs, hip etc...that is NOT an ideal date in my book

I think it's cute that there's no ageism involved here (although I do find those idle animations annoying, especially for Active sims with high body points).

The real reason I'm posting is that you don't have to pay the full five--four thousand will still get you high attraction sims. Not sure how low it can go yet, though.
34  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: anyone know anything about runtime errors? on: 2005 September 10, 05:20:28
JM told me that if I had a recent backup, I could replace the lot file for that one lot with the one from backup... The important thing is to have a recent backup of your Neighborhoods folder.

Um, backup?...heh heh  Undecided I think I backed up in July... lesson learned.
35  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: anyone know anything about runtime errors? on: 2005 September 10, 02:40:29
Make sure you go through your downloads folder with the HackScanner from DJSims.
Custom careers have a tendency to mess things up...

Thanks, but I don't have any custom careers, and I don't download any sims or lots where custom careers can sneak in.

Not to mention the alien computer!!

I didn't bother downloading that, either. It came out pretty quickly after the game did, and I tend to be conservative about downloads until I know exactly what's normal gamplay and what's not (i.e. a bug). Then I heard a lot of bad things about the alienware computer and pointedly stayed away from it.

AFAIK there is no way to recover a corrupted lot. I've not read of anyone doing this & I've had to write a few off, I've tried with a newly installed game and importing lots as well as copying over the whole n'hood folder to a new install. Nothing I can think of has worked for me. Sad

Undecided that's what I thought. I had visions of portraits of all ten heirs as YAs in this one dorm. Oh well. Just that I would ask. Thanks, everybody.

36  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / anyone know anything about runtime errors? on: 2005 September 09, 01:22:42
I had a runtime error, R6025 either during or after the game crashed. The background: I'm doing a Legacy and on gen 5. I have two sets of siblings and all four are cousins, so everybody has a long family tree. I thought I would get a bunch of people through college. On the neighborhood screen, I selected the four teens I wanted to send through and put them in the same household. Then I went to put them in the same dorm that their ancestors had been in. The game has now crashed twice. The first time, I had this runtime error, but I'm not sure if that had anything to do with the crash (as I have no idea what a runtime error is, really).

My questions:
1. Does this error maybe have anything to do with the game crash? If so, how do I fix it?
2. Is the lot simply buggered, and tough luck about the portraits that are several gens back?

I'm going to try the kids in another lot and see if I can start thinking through this myself. Will return in a few.

EDIT: Oh bother. They moved into another dorm. I hate having lost the other one, though. Is there any way to salvage it?
37  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Super secrect Survey on BBS on: 2005 September 01, 02:58:40
I agree, I'd like to see more aspirations, for instance, what about a Health and Fitness one?  And to go with it, a Health Club Community Lot, a bit like the College Gym but a little more upmarket!  And maybe a golf course......After all, they made mini-golf for MM!

That's a really neat idea. I've been trying to think of what aspiration I'd like to see and have just been coming up with stuff that's related to what already exists. You could have wants relating to yoga and meditation, body points, wanting to be a personal trainer, wanting to see other Sims get fit, a fear of eating anything too fattening,--ooh, wants to learn how to make new, healthy foods-- a mortal fear of getting fat, an LTW of being a hall-of-famer... And then there could be a new health and fitness career track, the top level of which would be Fitness Guru, and you run to work...

As I said, cool idea.

...new anything for toddlers and children...

Amen. I'm tired of the same three objects (I don't use the teddy bear b/c it annoys the daylights out of me).
38  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: What's the best stories you've read? on: 2005 August 30, 15:53:20
I know Meadow's a teen anyway, but I thought Legacy rules allowed marriage to either townies or NPC's, not just the latter.

I think this is because Uni had not yet come out, and she would've needed the TestingCheats enabled to move Meadow in, and that, of course, isn't allowed by the Legacy rules. The whole story took about 8 months for Jfed to tell, I think.

EDIT: Forgot I was going to talk about stories. I like Jfed's (obviously, since I've read them all, and that's a real commitment, since they're freakin' long). I find, though, that I stop reading any given story if people don't have a firm enough grasp of grammar or if it goes too melodramatic. So I don't have many favorite stories. I did enjoy SimSirenSix's stories, although I don't think she's done a whole lot since the early days of the game.
39  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Game freezes at 5:59pm on: 2005 August 18, 06:03:05
Clem, you aren't shooting anyone down, the more suggestions the better. What I know about computers can comfortably fit on the back of a matchbook cover, so I'm certainly always eager to learn. So keep on suggesting, it's called bouncing ideas around; it's actually a good thing Cheesy

I'm tenative because what I know about computers fits only a notebook page. Cheesy I don't want to look like a total idiot. A partial one will do.

clem: my graphics card info (128MB DDR ATI Radeon 9800 Pro) - and yes, I recently got some Anti-spyware and ad-ware programs. I'll disable everything and see if it works.

Your card sounds fine; I'm running on an Nvidia 5200 and all the graphics set to high without trouble.

Let us know if you manage to fix it. What's the computer doing--just sitting there, no spinning of disc, no "thinking" light? And just how many people do you have growing up/aging? Not that that should really matter, I guess. Just thinking aloud here.

Yep, they all look alot like Prince Philip.  My mother told me a while back that he was a (distant) relation of King George's (the Queen's father) - read what you will into distant.  They all look alike (horsey).

Yep, the Queen and Prince Phllip are distant cousins--looks like Queen Victoria is great-great grandmother to them both. Check out this link (it is a .pdf, though, for those with slower computers).

I dunno about the switch to dark, gang, although I thought of that at first, too. I have nearly the same specs on my CPU as Kukes and even less RAM (512 MB), and mine only hesitates for a moment before transitioning to dark. Not trying to shoot anybody down, but trying to generate more possibilities. Kukes, what about your graphics card? What kind and what kind of memory do you have?

And yeah, as ZZ suggested, I would check out usage. If you've put in other software recently, it might be taking more power than you realize by running in the background. Do you close down other power hogging programs before playing?

Okay, gonna shut up now.
42  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: EXCLUSIVE!!! Sim Scoops Lottery Jackpot!!! on: 2005 August 15, 19:10:12
This happened to me, too, and under similar circumstances. The only way I could get the graduating seniors out was to have someone invite them to move in. The sim moving in brought 4 million+ to the sponsoring sim. And at that point, I had no hacks whatsoever (a situation I remedied later). But that one's not a glitch I mind having  Cheesy
43  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Jumpy Teen! on: 2005 August 15, 16:58:00
And I resent the word "screaming"!

Ha, I meant me. I do a lot of shrill squealing here when something goes wrong that I haven't seen or read about before. Sorry I wasn't more precise; I was mocking myself.
44  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Jumpy Teen! on: 2005 August 15, 05:10:37
I'm probably going to be completely unhelpful, but I just had this problem and I think I managed to solve it without screaming on the board here.

My kid was studying from a book and doing a weird freakout every few seconds or so, although he wasn't jumping out of studying completely. I turned on boolprop to see what was causing the trouble. The Nanny Mobile. I had the nanny coming on a regular schedule according to the patriarch's job. And the patriarch had just died. I had the kid's mom call and cancel the nanny, and so far, so good.

For those who have a clue, the error was "tree break encountered." If you want to know more than that, let me know.

45  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Now what? Terrain can't be leveled. And it's already flat. on: 2005 August 12, 19:45:14
I should've mentioned that that's how I started, from the edge and over, and the whole thing turned red when I hit this spot. I've taken the picture to show the boundaries of the weirdness.

UPDATE: I think my official motto for this game is WTF?? I put down floor tiles in the space and voila, the foundation allowed itself to be put in.
46  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Now what? Terrain can't be leveled. And it's already flat. on: 2005 August 12, 18:45:26
Well, as I say. I'm trying to build a Legacy manse, and I have this one spot right in the middle of the damned lot that I can't build a foundation on. It's as flat as a mid-Ohio farm. I've already tried dipping the area and then leveling it again, and that just made things worse. Any ideas about what's going on here?  Huh

I've attached a JPEG if you want to see exactly what's happening.

EDIT: Just wanted to add that I don't think it's a stuck kicky bag--I sent one of the sims over to explore the area, and he got around just fine.

You want to DISABLE the CENSOR!!??  Aieeeeeee!  W.W.J.T.S. (What Would Jack Thompson Say).

Ugxh, don't get me started on that. Completely asinine.

By the way, love the avatar.

Spoke too soon.  Embarrassed The cheat worked on restart. But thanks all for the quick responses. Looks like today is not the day for a fbvfos.

gali, I use the cheat mostly out of habit, and partly just because I can. It's my private rebellion against the prudery of the U.S.
49  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: What the...?? on: 2005 August 02, 00:03:07
You are doing this:

intProp censorGridSize 0

Right? Or are you leaving the game in Pause mode? You have to unpause to kill the censor.

Right. And I don't pause for that cheat, so that can't be the issue.
50  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / What the...?? on: 2005 August 01, 23:52:58
My game has done something new and cute--I keep putting in the cheat to hide the censor grid and nothing happens. I tried it in another lot. Nothing. I looked it up on the web to make sure my brain didn't die and I am spelling it correctly. And I've used it hundreds of times before, so I don't know what's going on now.

BTW, I have few hacks, all of them Pescado's except the final exam fix from Twojeffs.

Any ideas? Maybe I should just restart and try it again and hope for a one-time game fart?
