Oh the clock most definitely goes faster when you're zoomed on the grass. i always do that when I'm fastforwarding. Things are always gonna go faster when they don't have to be rendered on screen.

Interesting… So, if that is correct, it would appear that for once in my life, watching grass grow can finally make the time go by faster…

If they pick up the phone they immediately put it back down.

I don't know which EPs you're running. But with Apartment Life (I think) Using "Screen Calls" automatically causes this type of behaviour.

If you have AL, try turning "Screen Calls" off if you've got it turned on and see if that improves anything.

GelatinousSubstance, I don't normally let them eat in the morning if they have work/school. They'll eat offsite. If they do need to eat, they get something from the Quick Meal menu.

Yeah. I've pretty much resorted to doing the same. Also, eating garden-goods right out of the inventory seems to have curbed the utter uselessness of the fridge. But still... not too impressed with how long it takes for them to do certain chores. I kind of feel like I'm playing a hybrid of TS1, with TS2 and SCS perks and looks added to it, which is oddly a plus due to the nostalgia - but not enough to make me think I will be as entertained in the long run by it.

Just a thought on the slow speed-3 : I noticed in my game that zooming at max zoom on an empty zone of grass somewhere (with no sims, no mouvements, no moving shadows from tree for example) seems to greatly improve the speed and make it bearable. The inconvenience is you don't get to see anything that happened during that, still useful at night I think.

I'm hoping that's going to be fixed.

Tested on three different computers and the speeds are all definitely slower than TS2. They work. They're just slower. TS3-1 = TS2-1, TS3-2 = TS2-1-1/2, TS3-3 = TS2-2, TS3-4 = TS3-3 per action (note that times are estimated; no stopwatch was actually used). At this point, the boredom alone is enough to make me rethink wanting to play this game for much longer. Is it possible that zooming out only appears to make time go by faster for you because you're doing something other than watching them sleep?

One more note. In TS2, if I wake my Sim up 4 hrs before their shift starts, they have enough time to shit, shower, serve omelettes, eat, put away leftovers, clean their dishes and put the toddler back in the crib. In TS3, if I wake my Sim up 4 hrs before their shift starts, they have enough time to shit, shower, and get halfway through making a waffle - a fucking waffle! - I thought micromanagement was supposed to be an improvement.

On the upside:
I really love how the kids do homework now. They come home, do their homework, find something else to do if they drain too much in one area; then return to their homework on their own. I also like being able to take the guitar and play in the park for tips.

An object can't be coloured without some kind of UV map (material) applied to it - 3D rendering 101.

I would assume that each "Region" has a name and material assigned, ie: head, body, material, surface, etc...
With each material name, a basic UV map is applied. So, yeah, depending on the number of regions and names of those regions per model, one could at least give the basic colouration to the model.

Take one of the shirts for the female for example - the one that looks like a strap-shirt with a long sleeve shirt underneath. that shirt has two regions, and those two regions must have a material name assigned to them. One could theoretically create their own object with those two regions named identically (but arranged differently), and possibly have the same effect within the game even though the regions aren't placed identically.

It's really just a matter of knowing the naming scheme of the objects and knowing how to get them into the game.

Is it just me, or as soon as I went to the launcher (having previously run it via the direct .exe) and running RLD version - after it demanded  my installation of the EA download manager, I got a pop-up: "The follow program: EADM is attempting to access secure files on your hard drive - click here to cancel or stop"...

Phone home much?

Remove the EADM Folder from TS3 in the Program Files. Solution was posted along with one of the torrents.
107  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Getting neighbours in AL to visit you on: 2009 May 14, 04:43:59
It's been a while since I've played in apartments due to ultra glitchiness. But if I recall correctly, you can knock on the neighbors door and ask them to come out (or something along those lines). Then you can introduce them to the other people in your party, and they generally stick around.

Two things to make sure of are that your doors are unlocked and that you have something more fun and interactive to do in your apartment than any of the public areas.

Glad it's working for you. As for an explanation, sometimes gremlins just get in there and the simplest solution works.

You'll get used to it if you give it time. Then you won't be able to play it any other way, and if you really want a challenge, try playing it with a tablet because of RSI, which is something else that takes some getting used to.  Wink
109  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Windowed Mode Not Working? on: 2009 May 05, 20:50:26
I don't know if I would go to the extreme of re-installing just yet. Even then, I'd probably just clear out the Sims 2 folder in My Documents rather than go through the installation again (after backing it up just in case, of course). That will basically reset your game.

I'd probably just try deleting the shortcut and creating a new one first. Then I would add the [space]-w after to see if the same thing happens. But as I mentioned in my previous post, the shortcut you should use really depends on what the splash screen says.

As far as the hacks not working, it could have something to do with the order in which they're loading, a conflict, or they may simply be outdated.
110  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Windowed Mode Not Working? on: 2009 May 05, 18:55:26
hmmm, I'm stumped then because I actually copied and pasted from the Target line within Properties and I'm running in XP Pro 32 bit, so from what everyone is telling me, that should be correct and my game should open in a window -- but it's not. Undecided  Oh, and there is actually a space between the second set of quotes and the -w, so I really just don't understand why it's not working correctly.

Oh well, thank you to everyone who tried to help.  I have already tested Numenor's AGS and it does open in a window, so I'll just take my screen shots from within that program instead.

I just noticed you have GL. When you start the game, does the Splash Screen actually say The Sims 2 Seasons? Or does it say The Sims 2 Glamour Life? If I recall correctly, I think GL ran like an EP. Though, I don't know if this could be the culprit.

And...

Are you actually trying to open the game from the modified shortcut? - Stupid question, I know. But stupidity isn't that uncommon.
111  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Windowed Mode Not Working? on: 2009 May 05, 00:19:35
for 64-bit opperating System (vista) Try:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\The Sims 2 Seasons\TSBin\Sims2EP5.exe" -w

For 32-bit, try:
"C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2 Seasons\TSBin\Sims2EP5.exe" -w

Make sure this is entered in the Target and not the Start in field of your shortcut.

Hope that helps.

Oh ho ho. I am stupid. Now I will make sure I never take my own advice, thank you.  Grin

Point taken. I'll make a note of that advice as well.  Wink

Thanks everyone.

Ooh. Good to know. So, as long as the ol' gal's package is still there, all should be well?

I was about to delete her green butt once and for all.
114  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Possible Asplosion? on: 2009 April 23, 21:29:20
Sorry if this has been answered before. But I've searched and can't find an answer.

I've got my own PT-set and I want to replace one of the Aliens with a different one.

Anyway, to make a long story short, I'm curious to know if deleting a PT will have the same effect on the hood as improperly deleting a Sim? Anyone know?
115  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Feel free to call me an idiot on: 2008 December 05, 05:44:15
Thank God. I was beginning to worry. Actually, I didn't really mean townies. I basically meant the binned Sims, like the tards I can't stand having in my game. Thanks for clearing that up.
116  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Feel free to call me an idiot on: 2008 December 05, 00:05:56
I never knew any of this. What I've been doing for a while now is deleting all the neighborhoods before even starting and importing my own. I don't even have binned townies to delete. But is this also a bad thing to do?
