1  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Import Strangetown and Veronaville into Pleasantville - Can it be done? on: 2006 May 05, 06:54:56
Now.  I shall sit and wait patiently for the beating and flogging I'm gonna get for admitting to using the Kitten Killer.   Tongue
lol! well i'll join ya, then.  i just downloaded inteen last night so a teen sim whose "real life" counterpart is pregnant- coulld be pregnant. so far-MY kittens are still alive (don't know if i killed anyone elses by this act of irresponsibility  Wink ), but the darn thing won't WORK. i spent half the night checking n re-checking files, n hunting down possible hack conflicts (which are MANY-sheeesh) having to take out hacks i consider to be "awesome" or at least "handy in a pinch", until all i had left were the baby controller n no baby harassment hacks that seemed might possibly be in conflict, n STILL it won't work(i REFUSE to play without those hacks) so God prob'ly doesn't kill kittens-that just doesn't seem like Him-prob'ly just lets it's quirkiness drive ya batty until you repent in sackcloth n ashes  Cheesy

I really hope pets is next, though, so all the whining and demands will stop.

I agree 100%! Its not that i'm against the pets idea, it may even be interesting, but now every 5 seconds there is a thread that says MAXIS PLZ PUT PATS IN TEH GME1!1!!! I RILLY WANT P3TS IN TEH GMA!!!!11!1!1!1!!

ROFL! looks like how i type when i'm trying to eat or something while i'm typing-lolol!

Yes, but for the time to actually count, you need to refresh the page every 15 minutes.

does it have anything to do with the fact that it asks you how long you want to stay logged in? The default is "forever". One time it'll say i've been logged in for 7 days, even if i am only here for a few minutes every couple of days (and i always close my browser when i leave), another time for three days-this time it says 23 hours.   it seems to depend on how often you clean out your cookies.

geez! this is like de-fragging n i never knew about it before? Considering how i'm shocked when someone tells me they've never de-fragged their computer-i think i feel sheepish-lol
5  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: cause of game never loading? on: 2006 April 24, 07:27:01
thanks a BUNCH, you guys. Going to try one or both of these suggestions now. Your responses are very much appreciated!

update: ok-there was nothing in my teleports file, but i'll keep an eye on it as i go to see if it collects anything-thanks for that tip Smiley  i deleted the groups cache next to see if that was it n am now lookin' for stuff to install  Tongue it made it through one lot installation anyways (had to go to bed so that's all the farther i got) so far so good. i should've asked a long time ago instead of having this 'i wanna figger it out mySELF" thing goin' on. Remind myself of my kids sometimes  Cheesy
6  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / cause of game never loading? on: 2006 April 23, 19:50:32
i need someone much more awesome than me, here-lol

my game keeps doing this thing where it won't even load. it's been doing it for a while and i've spent FOREVER trying to peg it down to what's causing it. i know nothing about editing anything in simpe (for me to try to learn might be the LAST straw for my family and friends who like to interact with me occasionally-lol) so if that's where the problem is-i'm in trouble. i've taken out hacks, taken out neighborhoods, taken out my entire downloads folder and nothing helps but re-installing.  i can add everything back one at a time, including my entire downloads folder-complete with hacks and it works fine UNTIL(i FINALLY noticed-grrr)-i install a simpack of any kind-whether it be a house (even houses clean of all custom content or hacks) or a sim (i'm not sure about the ones that are just walls or floor) as soon as i install a simpack-it won't load again(meaning-the first little splash screen pops up, but it never actually starts-no "ea" logo or any of the usual "game is starting" stuff). i don't know enough about where everything in a simpack GOES to look for what might be happening. Does anyone have any ideas for the simpe illiterate-about why that might be?
7  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Skin issues on: 2006 April 17, 07:51:25
Anyone know where I can find some free and decent barbie skintones?
Those without nipples and genitals? I really tried but it seems that most pretty skins out there are actually 'realistic' skins.

I want light, med, dark med and oriental skin tones. Thanks thanks if you know Wink

i wish there were more of these too that look really realistic in shadows n muscle definition. i have kids that play this game, for one thing and it's embarrassing to open up body shop to show someone something and have the "anatomically correct" body parts showcased all over the skintones section  Undecided
8  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Elevator Bug *please read* on: 2006 April 17, 07:27:06
Yes, but if the sim was by themselves...would the gravestone be retrivable?
i had a sim die on a community lot. it was her own business lot. The grim reaper popped up and said "it looks like all your sims have died. you have two choices. you can exit without saving and go back to your last saved game, or you can wait for the ghost of your sim to return home. it's up to you." (or something very close to that) then he sat down and turned on the t.v.  Tongue i have not played her home lot since to find out if she actually went home, nor have i tried to re-load that community lot, though (i'm not sure what would happen if she lived alone. A grave stone at that lot? At the community lot? Not sure. Maybe i should try them to find out what happened. ) it was entertaining to see all the customers being shooed out of the lot by a ghost though  Smiley
9  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: About individualism in sims, obsessive/stupid behaviour, mods and feeling lo on: 2006 April 13, 15:03:34

So if your Sims are out of control and doing stupid things, don't expect them to act "normally" and "logically" unless you actually participate in their lives and give them some direction.

But do keep in mind that games are supposed to be fun.

lolol! i bet this is what God said to Himself too: "oh GEEZ! I can see i'm just gonna have to come DOWN there! Aye yai yai" and in Bethlehem-a baby cried....  Cheesy
10  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: About individualism in sims, obsessive/stupid behaviour, mods and feeling lonely on: 2006 April 13, 14:54:19
Nadira, I feel your frustration. The game gets less and less logical with each expansion pack. I Love The Sims2. I am a true addict. I like the idea of OFB, but it is so disconnected from the previous expansions, that skills and University have almost no meaning. I have almost every hack on this site and a few from other sources. (Shhh!) It has made the game playable for me. I also cheat alot. I think the key is imagination. Make up stories and characters and pretend that degree really matters etc.

I will continue to play and will probably buy future expansion packs, but I agree with you. After a while it seems like I am playing the same sims over and over. You are not alone!

i'm with you on this one. It would't be any fun unless you write stories in your head to go with the sims.  The hacks make it possible to make your game go by the story you create, so i'm all for hacks! i play adventure/strategy games when i get tired of making stories for sims.  then play sims when i'm tired of shooting things and taking over maps-lol! moral: don't be scared to take some risks, Nadira.  That's what makes life and sims boring  Wink
11  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Inge where are thou? on: 2006 April 06, 16:54:20

Of course a modder is more than just their work, but Inge put a lot of herself into her hacks.  The type of hacks she created and her philosophy about how she wanted to play the sims was her own.  She once said that she created mods in order to help the sims behave more logically, hence the name of her site, in contrast to Pescado's philosophy, which is that sims are innately stupid and should be under strict control and never allowed to do anything autonomously.  I like playing with a combination of these methods.  Inge was (is?) an excellent modder, and her hacks were of the highest quality.  She even helped me to convert her autonomous study bookcase for the other bookcases in the game.  I have those if anyone is interested...I finally got all the recolors working.  I may not have agreed with all of her views, but it is obvious from the discussions we've had here that none of us will ever totally agree with each other.

I will just end this here by saying that Inge will be sorely missed.   Cry

Inge, if you read this, I want to add a heartfelt "Thank you" from me as well.

well spoken! hear hear  Smiley i'm kinda sorry i've been a "lurker" for so long n so i didn't know Inge herself either, but have long admired her talent (ofb drove me out of lurking-lol!)  Thank you from me, also, Inge.

The noempty potty is not working with OFB and Inge recommended - is it Crammyboy's hack?

Hmm, I have her 'noemptypot' in my game, and I have all three EPs, and it still works fine. Sure you have the latest version? (dated 10/31/04)

yeah-it works fine for me too, n i have all three eps

I have a lot of Inge's stuff in my game and will certainly miss her creations, not to mention the fact that it peeves me to lose a BRITISH modder who puts yoos in her words.  I am annoyed now because I never did get around to downloading the school stuff and also there was a new mod she put on a few days ago that I didn't download at the time for some reason and now I can't even remember what it was!

was it the new alarm clock? i decided to wait on downloading that one too  Undecided i was looking through my folders, and it looks like i only kept SOME of them. i hate it when i decide i have to STOP being a pack rat and clean stuff out-isn't that always when you find out you should've kept it? geez! i have all the school stuff, and the kids stuff, and quite a few of the globals. i forget what else. i don't know how to upload stuff to these forums, but i'll figure it out if you guys end up missing anything that i have. Maybe post a list later?

LOL I think a thread about pay/donation sites turned into a huge debate/fight about gay/bisexual people.  It was like 450 replies or something at the end, and it eventually got moved to Retardo Land.
lol! i keep wondering if i'm gonna log back on to find this there  Grin i've been wondering how long Pescado's tolerance would hold out. He kinda reminds me of the way my hubby is-in that "semi-lovable grouch" way-lol! My hubby would sit here (if this conversation were going on in person) looking bored n blank for a while n then say with a raised eyebrow: "Can we talk about something else now?" n you'd KNOW he was "not at ALL impressed"-lol!

Added comment: WHOA! i was just a thread hog! so sorry you guys! That's what i get for commenting as i go, i spose  Roll Eyes

The whole abruptness of it just seems like a knee jerk emotional reaction to something, and I know because I am prone to such reactions myself lol.
yup-me too. Whenever i suddenly have the urge to shut everything down-it's usually cuz i'm tired, burned out n feel taken for granted. i gotta boo-hoo to God a whole bunch to keep "walkin' the line"   Tongue
15  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Squinge found something interesting... on: 2006 April 06, 03:02:40
I've been considering it.

I'm a little tired of America's strange dislike of the human body. I understand people that don't want to see breastfeeding because many, many people have been raised to believe that their bodies are disgusting things that should be covered up. If it's any better at all in Europe, I'd like to know.

Well, I know people are probably tired of me going "This is how it's like in Finland" but hey, this is where I've lived for the past year and where I'll probably live for the rest of my life, so it's what you get -

In Finland, and I am getting the impression in Scandinavia in general, the view of the body is a little more relaxed. It's still not perfect, but I don't feel the obsessively fearful edge about it I felt when I was in the States. One of the first ads that caught my eye was the profile of a nude woman for something rpegnancy related (not sure, I couldn't read Finnish at the time). As far as I can tell it is perfectly normal for women to breastfeed in public, and I have yet to see a single one who was 'letting it all hang out', even though it seemed 75% of the women I saw last year were pregnant and now an equal proprtion are wheeling around infants in prams.  Cheesy They simply do it because that is what one does when one's baby is hungry.

my "slightly off topic" opion is that this is WHY Americans are so overly obsessed with the human body.  All the puritanism led to repression, repression led to obsession, obsession led to something "i" think is a vast problem right now-which is that anything to do with the human body is now seen as sexual to where we practically make our sexuality our IDENTITY and all our thinking seems to revolve around it instead of it just being ONE of the parts of life. i wanna be more than that. Come to think of it-you don't see the lil native guys in south america with pin ups of boobs all over their walls-there are naked ones all over the place n they are seen as "bottles'-nuttin more or less-lol!  There's "modesty" which is natural, n then there's moribd fear (being taught everything to do with the body is dirty, nasty, etc)-which is not. Morbid fear leads to obsession >>steppin' off soap box<<  Cheesy
16  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Squinge found something interesting... on: 2006 April 06, 02:49:53
I mean, I don't know anyone who was breastfed by random strangers or other relatives, no matter how close your family was. Tongue

i think in other society's and "longtime yestergo's" this is known as a 'wet nurse"  Wink
17  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Inge where are thou? on: 2006 April 06, 02:40:48
It's too bad, I was an Inge fan before I even found MATY.  Sad
I even remember liking her stuff from TS1. Which I guess explains how she could get tired of it, it's been a long time.
yeah-me too. Inge's awesome stuff is how i found MATY. i have just about everything she's done in a folder for "just in case" situations. her baby stuff is indispensable....ummmm-now that's juz not right. i was talking like she's the stuff she makes-dang it.  sometimes you wanna be more than juz what you do for people Undecided
18  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Squinge found something interesting... on: 2006 April 05, 11:21:27
i downloaded this yesterday (while i was trying to figure out something ELSE. i'm easily distracted-ahem!) but never played a lot that had babies/toddlers. Nevertheless-it was a hoot that whenever you click on a sim with the intent of a social interaction with another adult (or ANYthing really) you get the "breast feed baby" option. Made me snicker since it DOES apply to a lot of adults i know  Roll Eyes

update: i finally got around to playing again tonight and the option to "breastfeed baby" only came up on HUNGRY babies this time-not with every click like it did at first.  i didn't try it with the baby controller, so i don't know what happens with that. otherwise-haven't had any wierd stuff happen.  Works like a charm so far.  Thought you guys who were hesitant to try it because of the "annoyance" factor would like to know the "every click" option must've been a fluke
19  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Squinge found something interesting... on: 2006 April 05, 04:13:14
FYI, I kept getting errors while trying this mod until I turned off JMP's eye in the sky baby minder then it worked ok.

ah! good to know! i use the baby controller too, but have yet to play a lot with babies since downloading this hack. Thanks for the warning!
20  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Restocking tags showing in strange places on: 2006 April 04, 23:47:06
it's happening to me, now, too. it's in a home flower shop, and it does it with snap dragons and wild flowers. The MOST interesting thing about it is how i noticed it (big lot-lots of trees) CARS (a cheap carpool car, an expensive carpool car and an ambulance)were piled up in the back corner of my lot. i whizzed over there to see what was going on and when i got there-they disappeared-leaving out of stock signs  Cheesy thought that was interesting.

He hadn't posted it yet when I asked (believe me, I checked first). Grin
yeah-i was the one being characteristically ditzy by responding without checking (all eye rolling is for self entirely  Tongue )
22  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Squinge found something interesting... on: 2006 April 04, 23:21:00
Squinge just posted a new hack over at insimenator.net that lets your sims breast feed!  Says he found the code already in the game by accident, and just enabled it through the baby's menu.

It's in the adult section there, so you'll need access to that area to get to it. Otherwise, I'd just post a link...

.  I knew about Squinge's mod but I don't want to be tempted that easily!  Would be handy for real-life families, though.
yeah-that's always the problem for me too-if it's there-i'll think "what the heck!" n ruin all my fun by cheating-lol!  then i'll wonder why the game is so boring all a sudden-bruddah!  Tongue
24  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Hiring family? on: 2006 April 04, 21:55:59
Never mind! a good thing to do is check the latest hacks on Pescado's page to see if there's a new one-lol! Roll Eyes
25  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Hiring family? on: 2006 April 04, 21:53:08
I downloaded Squinge's hack and yes, it does have some problems. Set up a new family home business, had the dad "hire" his daughter but after he closed up shop for the day, she still had the little employee ball over her head. The only way to have her not be an "employee" was to click on the open/closed sign and "send home employees", at which point, she left the lot and her icon disappeared from the screen. I was too chicken to save with her being gone and didn't know what would happen, so I exited w/out saving. Maybe this only works on community lots, I don't know. I did read all the posts for this hack and didn't see this mentioned.

So....Pescado...where is this Business Runs You??
i want to know too! i was thinking of quite a few possible conflicts between the "hire family" hack and normal family behavriors as i was wracking my brain trying to think why it wasn't working for me, and this was one of them(the sim disappearing altogether). so i gave up trying to make squinges hack work for fear that ultra strange things happening would be the logical outcome.
