276  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Intense Fire Hack on: 2006 June 04, 20:30:53
Try this...

Tried it and loved it...One sim family never saw it coming, nor did I. I forgot to install a fire alarm and a phone after a family just moved into a house. They brought a broken dishwasher with them from another house and needless to say...Both adult sims survived the crisis, but not by very much! I never saw fire move so fast!!

Sorry about that. It's fixed now.

For those of you that were interested in my house, you can download it from my site. Just click the link in my sig. The site isn't fully functional yet, but you can get that house by clicking the pic on the main page. You will need to register, but it's free...
279  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Time-Freezing Toybox of DOOM! on: 2006 May 31, 04:43:02
Actually, it didn't show up as anything wrong in clean installer. I download houses that are empty just to fill in the gaps in my neighborhood. The toys didn't even show up as CC. I just happened to find them lying in a bedroom...and causing all this drama! Well, I'm glad you got it sorted out now. I actually reinstalled my game after this happened because it pissed me off so much...glad I did though, I really needed to trim down on my DL folder.
280  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Time-Freezing Toybox of DOOM! on: 2006 May 30, 21:30:40
The same thing happened to me a few weeks ago. Check to see if you have a toy boat, horse, and rocket in your game in the children section of buy mode. I downloaded a house that had those toys in them. They were very badly cloned and the freezing is the result of it. Obviously, I'm not sure if this is what is happening in your game, but it sounds the same. My sim always froze at the exact same moment (when her head was in the toybox). Find them in the downloads folder and remove them. DO NOT remove them from inside the game! That will cause your houses to crash when a child uses the toybox. I don't think they are easliy found either...I used clean installer to sort through the mess. Until you find the files, just don't let your sims use the toybox.

When I first heard about this, I thought there was going to be animation involved. I really have to learn to expect the smallest bit of effort, that way I won't be pissed at the crap they try and pawn off on us.

Maxis objects are useless! What's the point of this? My sims can't PLAY soccer!
284  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: House Layout? on: 2006 May 26, 14:36:19
That house has a huge yard and there are skilling objects, like a chess table and easle outside. I play to some reality and NEVER allow my sim children to skill on things they would not know in the real world. Logic, creativity, and body is pretty much all my sim children get from me...maybe a cooking point or two. But that is how I play, you can decorate it any way you'd like. In most of my houses I do include a cut off yard, but this was meant to be a beautiful no yard style. My point in showing this is that ultimately, it's just a box...but I made it look good.  Cheesy

Oh, and having my sims grow up devoid of skills is not a bad thing, if everyone was able to go to college and live a perfect life, where would the challenge and fun be??

One more thing I forgot to mention...This is the model home. I decorate the model one to take good pictures.

Plants are from 4ESF in set 5, I think. That house will be available on my site VJ Development as soon as I finish the design...I'm lacking creativity right now.  Smiley
286  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: House Layout? on: 2006 May 26, 02:23:43
I took this design from an actual plan. I think it's on a 2x3 lot. It's not big, but I find it very spacious and easy to navigate. My sims don't seem to have any problem moving through it. I hardly ever build on any lot bigger than 3x3.

287  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: House Layout? on: 2006 May 24, 19:20:26
Seconded. Somewhere on MTS2 someone even worked out a ratio of number of feet on the real house plan to number of floor squares in the game--works wonders for scaling a house plan down to Sims size.

I tried using that and it never quite worked out right. The rooms always seemed to be too small or too large. I base the dimensions off of how many windows the room has. Obviously, every window counts for one tile and you can generally tell a 2 tiled window from a 1 tiled window. It's a lot easier that way, at least for me. And most of my houses don't turn out to be humongous messes that I find elsewhere. Unless I wanted them that way, of course.
288  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Not sure if this is an annoyance or just plain broken, but... on: 2006 May 24, 14:31:13
When I finished college in RL I was completely broke, I had to debate moving back in with my parents. Fortunately, I found a moderately paying job in a field that had absolutely nothing to do with my degree. Roll Eyes

My sims usually go  to college alone because I don't have large families and the children usually have a huge gap between them. I only send others if there is some kind of arranged marriage going on. I hate playing uni so I don't do the SS or greek houses. And above all, they barely ever get perfect marks because all of my sims are just a tad bit LAZY! That's why they come back to the neighborhood with nothing.

Coming out of college, my sims are poor as dirt! Where are you guys getting all the money? Even with straight A's that's only 4800 plus whatever they got in scholorships. ~hmm...I suspect my sims are making all the wrong choices in life. lol  Undecided
290  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: How do you make a user startup cheat file? on: 2006 May 23, 19:03:18

Just put in the name of the cheat and the state you want it in in the file, just like you would type in the cheat window itself.  If you look at the example up at the top of this thread, you'll see each section starts with a particular cheat and its default startup status.  For example:

boolProp testingCheatsEnabled false

That makes sure the testing cheats are off when the game starts.  if you want them to default to on, put this line in the file (position doesn't really matter):

boolProp testingCheatsEnabled true

This applies to any on/off state cheat.  You can  then still use the aliases to toggle the cheats state.

Still didn't work. I don't know what the hell I'm doing wrong, but that hasn't worked for me for a long time. My aliases work, but not auto starting the cheat when I load the game. ?? oh well.
291  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Not sure if this is an annoyance or just plain broken, but... on: 2006 May 23, 14:40:50
With no 20k handouts installed, my poor grads only have a good 5k-9k to buy a house. Its good to make them struggle a bit. Wink
292  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: How do you make a user startup cheat file? on: 2006 May 22, 21:13:40
Does anyone know how to get the game to automatically enable the cheat as it starts up?  By starting up I mean as soon as the game starts, the aliases that I've designated are started without me having to type in the letter. I used to have the alias written at the bottom of the page and it worked until nightlife came out. I'm just being lazy, but I was happier with my game when I didn't have to worry about it.
293  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: How is it considered cheating when your spouse is dead? on: 2006 May 13, 03:07:42
If you think that's bad, you should have seen what happened to my family. The mother died in her early days of being an elder so my other sims were all in asperation failure, but the husband immediately spun the want to woohoo. Of course that gives a lot of asperations points so I called one of his best friends and made them fall in love and he got the cheated memory. When they finally woohooed he got up like he was going to be slapped and the "wife's" ghost was roaming around. I also got a message saying that the sim died on another lot and her grave would be moved. Then, when I looked at his memories, she died twice and he and the rest of the family were in asperation failure again!
294  TS2: Burnination / Taster's Choice / Re: Testers wanted: Color Binning Tool 0.2.25.1 on: 2006 May 13, 00:06:30
I have an interesting tid-bit for you. I color binned all my hair and reinstalled my game a few days ago. I started a new hood and used testing cheats to create townies. I hired a nanny for one of my sims and noticed that the nanny had custom hair. I thought that was odd, but didn't think much of it. When I took my sim to a downtown area, I saw that a great number of my townies are now walking around with custom hair. I have not seen this happen before and the only thing I've changed is color binning so I am assuming that this great tool is what did it. Thank you so much! I urge someone to try creating a new neighborhood and seeing if this can be done without reinstalling.
295  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Has anyone tried this buyable NPC/Townie maker? on: 2006 April 24, 22:20:40
I didn't know that it was fubared! I've been using it like mad and haven't had any problems. Hmmm...I also noticed while trying to hire new workers that the townies in my neighborhood are now very attractive. I'm going to create a new neighborhood and try again.
