Well now if it wasn't in the rules to start with when posted, it doesn't count  Tongue  No fair changing the rules after the game is in play!

So how would you avoid fires if you could only cook on the cheapest grill, then? They can't visit community lots, so no stealing food. They can't have a fridge, so they can't just eat lunchmeat sandwiches and instant meals all the time. They would have to eat at home sometime. What am I missing?

Why can't they have a fridge? Fridges are in a seperate category, and in fact the rules for culinary give hints about turning the fridge around after the one-meal-per-day has been used up.

I highly recommend gelatin for its long shelf life.  lol

As usual, Maxis textures leave a lot to be desired. So I'm evaluating this package more in terms of new meshes.

I actually like Maxis textures, as a rule, and I've been having a hard time finding dressy clothes that don't turn all of my female sims into a freakshow-

I'm finding it's because very few meshers go thru the trouble of making sure that their meshes look good on the "unfit" female sims as well as "fit" ones.  They must somehow forget that Maxis included more than one bodytype into the game and when sims are in another state, suddenly their once gorgeous outfits turn hideously ugly with jagged, disappearing, invisable, wonky parts of the mesh as they morph into the sims body.

I test new meshes in my game before putting them into actual play now (learned the hard way) and these days promptly point, laugh and remove said meshes and add them to a list of who not to download from again.

I like variety in my game, fit and unfit (they are by no means fat, I don't care what the game says, I'm in the gimme more body types camp too!) and won't be bothered with those outfits or creators that don't work for all the Maxis body types.

As for the "stuff packs" if they were just like downloaded items and that was it, I might have gotten it if it were less than $10.  Talking legal copies here, the fact that it's twice that price for more hassle, urm no thanks.  I'll pass.  For it to be labeled "Glamour" and not to have more hairstyles is a bit misleading, I thought for sure they'd be including plenty of them.  Who can be glamorous without a new hairstyle to go with it?

I'll hold out still for the 80's stuff pack.  **dreams** Tight jeans or jeans that were cuffed at the bottom just so...and spandex--who lived thru the 80's without spandex!? Truly baggy tshirts and striped sweaters, off the shoulder sweatshirts with tanktops underneath, multicolored legwarmers and honest to goodness tennis shoes with socks that go over the jeans, or don't forget a good pair of leather "boat shoes" with the curls on the end! Friendship bracelets and pins for your shoes and long dangly earrings and big hoop earrings, a good tshirt mesh for the guys and denim jackets with pins and airbrushing on them for everyone.  Correctly spiked hair, long poofy bangs that took gallons of hairspray to get just right and curly hair to go with them.  And good 80's type sim music to match.  **sigh**

Where was I? Oh yes...meshes need to fit all Maxis body types!

If you look at the individual threads, their note(s) about being removed have been removed.  So at this point, it doesn't appear that they will be taken down after all...

JM:  Granted, they are not programmers.  Nevertheless, that still doesn't excuse their responsibility to read and comprehend the English language, their responsibility to give those that file problem reports written in a clear and precise manner the benefit of the doubt and go and test it for themeselves, and it definitely does not excuse them from simply ignoring a problem just because 'it's not possible' even though 'meshes are beta and unexpected things can happen'.   I'm not a programmer, and even I could connect enough dots to figure out there was a problem going on and could reproduce it every single time.  How deep it went, I had no idea...that took one heck of a programmer to figure out.  (And I'm ever so thankful, but I won't gush over that here, that would be useless spam...)

Kyna...lol...yes that must be it.  Thank you, I try to be as non-sheep like as possible.  Correct spelling I think is usually the first giveaway to a non-sheep.  Perhaps I blew their minds as JM had mentioned by spelling everything correctly...lol.  And Flylady would actually be okay with me today.  My sink is shiny, my hot spots are lukewarm...the only thing I haven't done yet is tuck myself in for the night.  lol.  Today is a good day! Cheesy

Thank you Marg, I think that is what I expect out of everyone after being here for so long.  I suppose that is why I was so stunned at the responses that I received.

JM the need for constant praise and affection in that respect is useless.  I did give some simple form of praise, I suppose because I didn't follow it with !111!!!!1ONEONENEONE it wasn't noticed.  Gosh, that must've been what I missed in the fine print over there...

Kyna, yes that is the sad, true fact, and I don't doubt they are there already.  Thanks for the **hugsbackatcha** .  I may not have lost my temper over there, but you better believe the 500+ members of the TS2 Classic Legacy Group that I co-own know about this bug all too well.  Those Legacy simmers sure can talk...and blog...word spreads real fast with them you know.  Yeah, not only did the creator not want to admit that it was broken, he passed up the first two chances to admit to it.  Better yet, he had all day to go and test it out before the second chance was even posted...

Thank you Nectere and here, have some more gasoline.  That was me that reported it.

Unfortunately, slicing and dicing over there got a lot of what was said cut out so unless you were subscribed from the very beginning, you missed the worst of it.

I do have those emails saved to remind me never to never do that again.  I followed all the guidelines, was clear in my posting, I believe I spelled most everything correctly and even spoke in plain english.  Silly me for thinking that was the right thing to do, eh?

I had the exact same problem with the top mesh made from the men's open shirt outfit (also on MTS2) when trying to get a job.

Do you have a link to this mesh? I'd like to know which one this one is.

Thanks!

Thank you Pioupiou for noticing that, I hadn't tried any of those options yet! YIKES!

Thank you JM for digging deeper into the issue, finding the root cause and letting those over at MTS2 aware of it as well.  Well said over there by the way.

I shall take your advice and remove it from my downloads.  Random crashes that can be avoidable shall be.

It's been confirmed here:

http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=182634

To sum up:

When wearing the "dress as tops" tops that have been made at MTS2, and trying to purchase a community lot, your game will crash.

Is there anyone more awesome than me that can write a hack that can stop the game from accessing the line of code that HystericalParoxysm references in order to have these meshes fully workable in game?  "I don't think there's going to be any fix for the dress tops that will keep this from happening - dress tops are made by cloning a full body mesh, importing the 3d model for a top only, and then changing one line in the recolour file's settings to tell it that it's a top. It's really a very simple, elegant way of doing it... And in order for something to work like a dress top, that seems to be the way it has to be done. There doesn't appear to be an alternate dress top method....So the problem is really not so much with the dress tops themselves as it is with the code that runs when a sim goes to buy a community lot. For some reason, it's accessing what the buying sim is wearing when it does it... which makes exactly 0 sense."

The other workaround listed, to have the sim in question merely change clothing prior to buying a community lot, is not IMHO a good solution.

Removing all the tops created is not a good option either, as that ignores the fact that there does indeed exist this problem.

This may or may not come up again for other meshes out there, and I'd rather have a fix for it in place in order to prevent it from happening.

Thank you to anyone who may take an interest in coming up with a solution to this problem.

I cannot, and will not, tolerate the obnoxiousness of the whining twerps who populate the dorms by default, getting in the way of the sims that are trying to get a degree, making messes everywhere, gorging on the cafeteria food and hogging the bathrooms. (I despise the way the game will make a non-selected sim grab the last bowl of food, or use the toilet or shower the second the player adds that action to the selected sims queue.)

I hate to ask the obvious, but why aren't you using nodormiespawns to prevent the above?

All babies look the same...<snip>.

Hrm...not in my game.  Siblings from the same family may look similar, but never identical.  And babies which share different genes are way different from each other.

Perhaps you need either more diverse genes or better graphics to notice the differences?

Love your babies Hegelian, they're all cuties Smiley

Well, nosy as I am, I put the hack in anyway.  If they are related, it does seem to help with my issue anyway.  All 7 simmies are now consistantly getting into the taxi.  They are all being "called" to go to the taxi, whereas before, the last one would be "called" but the "call" would drop out immediately afterwards.  Whether that's coincidence or a fix for the issue, I'll leave that to you to determine.  I can only report that it seems to have helped bunches.

Let me know if you need more testing and/or information.

There's a limit on how many people can go into a taxi?
I've had an outing of 8 people on my Harley Davindson, so I can't see any reason they shouldn't fit in a taxi.

Apparently...though I could swear you could stuff 8 people in a taxi.  But I wasn't the only one in another group I belong to having this issue, which is why I'm posing the question here.  Figured someone must know something about it...lol.  That must be quite a sight to see on that Harley! This isn't an outing I'm trying to organize though, just a regular call transportation: taxi and everyone on the lot go.  I wonder if that makes the difference?

I've had families of eight head downtown, so I doubt this is a game promblem. Maybe some strange hack conflict or other issue? Is the seventh sim pregnant or trying to skip a final or something that should be obvious and isn't?

The seventh sim isn't pregnant or trying to skip a final or anything else odd, it's always a random sim that gets left behind.  It's the middle of the night when I'm trying to send them, no where near class time.  And they hadn't been off the lot, ever, prior to the first time I attempted this.  Plus sending Uni sims off lot to a business-owned lot stops time anyway, so the Uni clock doesn't keep ticking, which is of course the entire reason for wanting to send them all off to begin with...lol.

I'm not showing any hack conflicts with the hack conflict detector either.

I'm at a loss...

97  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Getting into taxi with more than 6 sims? on: 2006 July 21, 22:17:03
I have Uni, NL & OFB installed with all patches.

I am attempting to send 7 Uni students to their owned business lot.

Only 6 of the 7 will ever get in the taxi to go to their business lot that is owned by one of the students.  The last one to get to the taxi is left out.

I believe JM's phone hack is the one that allows me to select multiple sims to go and I always select for all Sims to get into the taxi to go.  Yes, I have the latest version.

I'm assuming that would also mean if I had 8 playable simmies, that only 6 would go as well then.

I've been told already that I can call them over to the lot after I arrive there, but that's one more thing to remember of course.

Gah.  Is there a hack that enables more than 6 sims to get into a taxi to arrive as playable sims on the business lot?  I want them all to go, all at the same time.

Any help would be appreciated,
Thanks!

I hate to ask the obvious, but if they are never trying for baby, are you sure you've set it to allow try for baby on the bed? Isn't try for baby off by default on the bed?

According to the readme, the two sims have to pass 6 tests with a total of 225 or more each before they will try for a baby on their own, provided of course the bed "try for baby" is turned on.

Gosh, all I have to do is make sure my simmies are in a good mood and leave them on their own for a few minutes...lol.  I've even had more than one "oopsie" with her bed installed...

100  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: When building, why do windows disappear (but not really)? on: 2006 June 30, 11:25:02
I've had it happen as well for no reason.  Same fixes as above, either putting the walls up and down, changing levels or by grabbing them and moving them seems to bring them back again. What's weird is when it happens to only one or two windows of the same style, instead of all of them.  I place my windows before my lights, so that wasn't the issue there.  My computer is middle of the road I s'pose.
