Just solved a case of frequent long pausing in Champs Les Sims. No problems in the other vacation hoods or the base hood.

I had plonked a couple of families down into lots, and it started.
Evicted, and placed elsewhere the suspects, (whose house had an 'elaborate' path to the front door) and all was fine.

Short end: Delete families one-by-one, and keep checking if its gone.

I remember about a year ago there was some sort of ini file in the TS3 folders you could edit to (in theory) change your cache limit.
But I can't find it now. It was one of the early methods to combat error 12.
Anyone remember that or know where that file is located?

With Vista it's like John\Documents instead of John\MyDocuments. Could it be that?

I recommend Red County. Or Overlook Bay Build Template, if you don't mind a blank map with glitchy water (which I have mostly covered up)

Just tried the new package. Its much darker than the old Less Blue Nights Brighter.
Reverting back for now, I'm not sure how to tune those XML's properly.

 If you knew that the effects were repeated due to a certain event you should have mentioned that in the list you had made;
rather than give misleading information such as the label "Plays Once" implies.  Apparently they are not in fact onetime events.

Look, it does play once. Per camera visit. Hence the "Plays once" title.

I was playing around with the different effects that you listed and discovered that the ‘Bats from hole' is not a onetime event.  I noticed it seems to reoccur every time my sim comes home and every time I change camera view from upstairs to down stairs and vice versa.

Yeah, that's because it happens one time whenever your camera is in the proximity, rather than happening continually when you look at it. All the one-time effects do that.
If it truly did only happen once, and never again, it would be a useless effect.

Darn, could someone tell me what is making me crash even after a re-install?
I cleared out all documents/program files for TS3 that I could find, and started fresh with unpatched basegame.
Runs okay (5 minute test) but as my basegame gets more patched it leads to these under-a-minute CTD's. Something crucial is missing if the game cant even survive a minute in a new town.
patch 1.12.70.006002 instantly set it off again.
Text says DasmX86Dll.dll not found, but I do have this in my system 32 folder.

Update: It only happens when I unpause. I can zip around just fine while paused.

Alot of these triggered effects could benefit from some sort of simple wall button which triggers them, with sims perhaps using the doorbell animation while pushing it. Ancient torches and wall holes are a bit meh outside of dungeons.

Woah, didn't see the snow yet :/

I've been busy going through these various new effects, and the depth here is staggering if you have imagination.
In this pic, a sim pulls the switch and a laser then zaps a bug inside the test case. The wonky alignment is fixable.
You can make your own interactive objects in a sense. I also made a flea circus in a display case.

I'm busy compiling a list of the best 'permanent' and 'non-looped' effects. It may take a while but I will upload a txt with some easily listed commands.
