401  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Community Weddings after OFB on: 2006 March 29, 17:45:11
Ok, I made up two people and got them married, and moved them in with each other at a community lot. This way you can: 1)see that it is for real, and 2)see that it won't break your game.  Grin

Man Wedding and Ima Bride about to meet.

After forming a casual group for fun, he takes Ima to the local church

They get married at the altar, in Maxis wedding gear, and Ima joins the family!

And the obligatory pillow fight upon returning home

I left the links to the pictures I probably won't leave these up too long because I will run out of bandwidth on photobucket, hopefully this will answer the OFB community lot wedding questions.  Smiley
402  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: stupid managers on: 2006 March 28, 04:29:46
I noticed yesterday that a "just browsing" response doesn't necessarily meant they won't buy anything. If you leave them alone and they're happy enough, they'll buy something anyways. So I guess they might not always mean they're really broke, just that they want you to go away and leave them alone.

I tried that, and all they do is chat, tell jokes, play, or sit...or complain about something.

Yes it does. (Yes you did) You can even take two sims that don't live together to get married, and when it is done, it will add the other sim to the family right there at the community lot.

What altar is this? The one I see at MTS2 isn't set up to work on community lots... the posts suggest fixing it yourself and/or change lot zoning to get it onto a community lot. Is that the one you mean? (I can change lot zoning, but I thought that didn't work) <confuzzled>

Start out with a community lot, fix it the way you want it, then change lot zoning, exit, re-enter, add the altar and anything else you want, then change it back. I added a bottle of champagne, wedding cake, and a buffet table. You don't need more than one bottle of champagne because apparently on community lots, they are bottomless. In fact, after about the 10th toast I make them dispose of it before anymore toasts happen Tongue
404  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Post problems you've noticed, on: 2006 March 28, 00:34:58
I have not had that problem, but I have only had weddings on community lots. They always dress into default Maxis wedding gear. Also, I don't use the arches, I use an altar....perhaps that is the difference.

Are you saying that that altar (did I get it from MTS2?) works on community lots with OFB?

Yes it does. (Yes you did) You can even take two sims that don't live together to get married, and when it is done, it will add the other sim to the family right there at the community lot.
405  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Post problems you've noticed, on: 2006 March 27, 23:59:51
Among other appalling errors...
So far, in every wedding since installing OFB, the bride & groom do not dress for the occasion. (no wedding gown & tux, even w/ wedding party under the arch)

I understand there are hacks out there that do this intentionally.  I don't use them.  Never have.  Wedding gown & tux worked properly till OFB.

Anyone else notice this?

406  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: stupid managers on: 2006 March 27, 23:54:48
Heh. Well, there's an idea, I suppose I could add a "no broke shoppers" to No Playable Shoppers, which now contains a mode in which you can enable playable visitation simply by hiding the FFS Money Order somewhere on your lot like in the days of old, which would then override all the settings so that NOBODY BROKE WOULD SHOW UP.

I know that a lot of my playable sims show up claiming to be broke, but they are definitely not broke. They pull the "just browsing" thing and the $ with the X through it shows up, and they pat their pockets. This means that they are lying out their ass, basically. I have had a large increase in loiterers lately, as well. This I can't figure out, so I just ban all those who consistently loiter.

by the way: Noreaasign works brilliantly. The only thing I have found is that if you have a manager, they will walk all the way across the lot to reassign and then when they get to the sim (who is typically the owner), that is when it drops out of their queue. This has resulted in many customers getting pissed off and throwing their bags down or getting otherwise annoyed because the manager is not doing their job. They are running around trying to reassign unsuccessfully the whole time. No manager - no problem. When visiting an owned lot without a manager, the employees do their assigned task (this includes employees working as DJs and bartenders), and the owner will tidy. If there is an open register, the owner will run the register. The owner never seems to make a move to reassign.

A couple of annoyances (not related, but I found faster as a result of testing this - so, thanks): An owned business that has a bar...the $16/every 30 min. that one would get paid to "be the bartender" at a community lot applies at owned businesses. The money goes into the owner's pocket as free money, even if they have an employee assigned as bartender. Also, any sims visiting an owned bar will get paid the $16/30 min. - even if they are not bartending. This is not the case with the DJ booths, fortunately.
Managers who have the "want a customer to get a star" want, do not get it fulfilled, even if a customer gets a star. Owners do not get the "want to give so-and-so a promotion" want filled, even if they promote that person.

Have you (or anyone else) experienced these things as well? I have no hacks that are bar/bartender/barrista related, espresso or juice.
407  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Mom, Where do Dormies come from? on: 2006 March 23, 04:35:53
I have found that if you make your own young adult, export them as a townie with the InSIMinator or Inge's Teleporter Shrub Plus (most dormies seem to be townies per The Summoner from the InSIMinator) then kill a dormie of the same gender after the export, it will not generate another one to replace it. That way you can have whatever kind of dormies you like. The cool thing is, if you export them after you have had them claim a door, and use Inge's shrub to "remove all non-residents", they will vanish from the lot and then come right back and go to their room and behave as normal townie dormies behave. I always count my character files after doing this to verify...well I used to. I haven't since I confirmed they were positively not regenerating. The only thing you will notice is that the furniture is still visible in their room, but that causes no harm.

It probably isn't because it hacks so much stuff.

Will you please let me test it?  Grin
I had it, since I save the zip files of everything I install, but when I finally decided to upgrade to Win XP two weeks ago, I forgot to burn that folder and lost it. I love that hack so much!
409  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: How is the new OFB patch working for everyone? on: 2006 March 23, 04:09:57
I downloaded it earlier, but I don't think I am going to install it. I am quite pleased with the way my game is running at the moment. And though I do have some of the bugs mentioned in the list, none of them bother me enough or happen often enough to warrant potentially screwing it up [more]. I don't do bakeries or salons, I don't play Maxis neighborhoods, and I don't save at owned businesses. As far as the ReNuYuSenso Orb thing, if I know a lot has one on it and I haven't played it since installing, I just enable testing cheats and delete it when I get the error as the lot loads. The only one I have really noticed is community lots loading at triple speed when you arrive - no biggie, and Besides, I can't handle servo doing chores. Also, I am sucessfully using hacks that are presumably not OFB compatible (my favorite being Dizzy's Daily/Weekly Burgler/Arsonist) and I am not going to risk giving that up for anything. I love watching the burgler torch houses far too much!  Grin

It is easier to patch than unpatch. If it ain't broke (too badly), don't fix it. Yadda yadda yadda.
410  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Newer Shinier Comm Skilling hack at MTS2 on: 2006 March 23, 00:20:01
Does it work for you? Like does it actually do anything different than if you didn't have it in? I never noticed any sims other than the ones I was playing gaining skills with it in. I don't recall what happened without it in.

Well, I was about to reply, and then I thought about it and realized that I have been so busy forcing burglaries, arson  Roll Eyes and playing home businesses, that I haven't actually been to a community lot where one could gain skill points since installing OFB. I tried out separately and together the comm-skilling and dancefitnessbodyskill on my other Windows account that has no hacks or custom content, and what I found was this: At home businesses, both work for visiting sims/customers. At community lots they only work for the playable sim. The progress bar shows up and then disappears for the other sims. Without any hacks installed at all, there was no skill point gain at any community lots. I did not test out the cook or waitstaff thing. Before OFB the progress bar always showed up at community lots for all sims. I also realized how much I hate playing without hacks!  Tongue

Edit: I took out comm-skill and put in Squinge's version and now my controllable sims do not gain skill points, but non-playables do. I prefer JMP's one. If I want townies to gain skill points I will invite them over.
411  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: stupid managers on: 2006 March 22, 21:30:24
I don't see the problem with allowing them to re-assign tasks. After all, your employees and your business need the benefits of whatever badges they earn while doing the new task. Customer loyalty is very easy to regain.

What I don't like the most is the manager telling the boss what to do. I noticed this when I had one of my sims visit another sim's business. She was assigning the bossman to do all kinds of nonsense. This is the main reason I would really like to try out "noreassign." The boss is the boss, not the manager.

Also, no one ever assigns a bartender. That kind of poses a problem for visiting owned clubs or bars, which I have quite a few of. I am hoping that this hack will fix that.
412  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Newer Shinier Comm Skilling hack at MTS2 on: 2006 March 22, 21:23:33
I saw this yesterday, and I was like meh. Wasn't this already done (by a certain you know who)? Tongue

I use the one from here, myself. I am quite happy with it.
413  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Newer Shinier Comm Skilling hack at MTS2 on: 2006 March 22, 17:19:56
just out of curiousity why is it important for non playable sims to gain skills?

It also helps so that you don't have a bunch of non-controllable sims playing the instruments horribly, since they all eventually gain creativity skill.
414  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Help needed - coffee or bar business at home on: 2006 March 19, 00:38:10
This sentence is confusing to me, is the motel on a home lot or community lot? You say home lot, but then how can the community lot hack work to make visitors sleep on the home lot?

It is a residential lot. For some reason, when sims visit your playable sim's house they consider it a community lot - whether or not it is a home business. Why, I cannot explain. I have visiting sims crashing out at the greek house all the time, too. At any rate, ever since I installed that hack, anyone visiting the household I am playing helps themselves to the fridge, shower, and the beds. It's rather amusing Grin

It would be very cool if someone came up with a hack that allowed the purchase of community lots in the Uni neighborhoods. If I had a clue (which I don't) I would do it. I am just learning about all the technichal stuff.
415  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: stupid managers on: 2006 March 18, 16:57:09
Well, I have an anti-reassign prototype, which causes the reassignment orders issued by any non-controllable sims to be ignored. However, it has not been tested. If you would like to volunteer for this, I can place it in public test.

I would also like to test this, that would be great!
416  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Help needed - coffee or bar business at home on: 2006 March 18, 16:50:45
I built a coffee house in the shopping neighborhood with 2 espresso machines and the business computers, and it got plenty of customers - but I also made a little section with espresso and coffee machines for sale. That might have had something to do with it. I set up an outside espresso cafe downton by the bus stop, and no one used it....they all just sat at the bus stop - which looked cool for about 5 seconds, but that was it. I haven't tried the at-home one yet, but will today to see what happens.

The most successful businesses my sims have are in downtown, not the shopping district. The one that brings the most $ in is one that sells gargoyles, coffins, guillotines, and grave stones. The convenience store and the bars/clubs do really well, too.

The best home business I have is a motel with a bar in the back and a pool. With the community lot sleep hack from MTS2, people will actually stay and sleep, shower, etc.

I have not had an issue with any NPCs showing up, but I delete them all when I create my custom neighborhoods. That may be part of the problem. Maxis made neighborhoods seem to be so buggy - I never play them...I delete them.

What I would really like to be able to do is own businesses in the university neighborhood. A coffee house there would be really cool, I think.
417  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: OFB Community Lot Car Bug on: 2006 March 17, 20:16:20
I haven't had this problem, but I never save and exit at business lots. I did notice something, though, that may have something to do with the problem.

My sim was at his business, which is across the street from his house. I noticed that his lot showed his car returning to the home lot even though he and his car were at his business. So it seems to me that perhaps by default since the home lot is saved as returning and the sim is actually not returning home, but to their business, the game can't load either since they can't be in one lot and return to a different lot at the same time.

I am probably way off here, but it makes some sense to me so I thought I would share it.
418  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Restocking your Neighborhoods on: 2006 March 12, 01:56:15
The way I did it was I created a new neighborhood, exited the game, then deleted all the files in the character folder. Then I went back in, made 24 sims in total (all ages) in groups of 8 (or whatever you wish), and exported them as townies with Inge's shrub. Correct,  NPCs will generate as they are needed. Exit, and check your character files. There should be 24 or 25 at this point (if you made it to the newspaper delivery) The character file numbers should be in numerical order. Also, all files will be created at the same time, so you can just delete all the new ones if you sort by date. Then, you can make a downtown, exit the game, and delete all the new files in the character folder. Then make more sims, and export them as downtownies. With Uni, I made students, exported 2 at a time, and killed off the townie students that were the same gender.

Before exporting all of them, I randomized their skills with the skills adjuster from the Insiminator, and gave some of them a gender bias. I also made them all dance for at least 1 sim hour so they don't suck at dancing Tongue! The only thing you really have to watch out for if you do this is that the NPC vampires will go bite crazy and bite everyone, even if you export your own vampires as townies. I use the vampire fixes by JMP so that doesn't happen.

FYI, the number of towies I recommended seems to be the typical number created by default. The first neighborhood I made, I used the boolprop cheat to generate NPCs and it made 52 files, and the original number of files I deleted was 87.
419  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Internet-Cafe Computer (Visitor Enabled Computer) on: 2006 March 09, 21:17:04
This is very cool, thanks! They use it on their own, but for some reason the screen stays down. Other than that, it works great in my game Smiley
420  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Two versions of the game on: 2006 March 01, 18:13:00
Ah, ok. I have no idea about that. That's cool that you could do that with the Sims 1. I have never played it, really. That would be rather handy to do though. I have no intention of getting OFB right now since I am still really happy with Uni and NL, but when I get bored enough with the game to get it I would like to have that option because I just don't think my pc would be happy with 3 expansions at the same time either Undecided

After I finish my custom neighborhood, I will burn my files and then test it out. I want to do a new install of the game soon anyway, and will post the results - unless someone else does it first. I am pretty close to done, so it shouldn't be too long.
421  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Two versions of the game on: 2006 March 01, 17:44:52
Nec, do you mean I can do it although I only have the system installed on the main drive?  (I know I could do that with sims1, I could run as many copies of diffrent versions there as I wanted, but it seems a lot more complicated with sims2.)  It would be great if I could do that, then I could run OFB with NL and no Uni if I wanted - I have a feeling that all the EPs together would become unmanageable for me!

And my other PC only has 512 MB of RAM, so it really only plays sims2 on its own properly.

Yeah , you don't have to install another system. Even though you install the game on your secondary HD it will show up in your add/remove programs list on your main drive. You just want it on your other drive because it has more space, right? Or do you mean install TS2, OFB & NL on one drive and TS2, Uni, &NL on the other?

I have no idea about installing it in two different locations, though it might work. - since the paths to the game files would be different for each installation. Then again, it may blow up your computer. I may try that just to see if it works sometime soon.
422  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Two versions of the game on: 2006 March 01, 17:04:20
Well, in my case, I have two hard drives, but I don't know how to install the game on the second one, or how to run it from there.

I installed the game on my secondary HD this last time, and it works fine. All I did was make a Program Files folder, and then EA Games inside that, and then you have to make individual folders for the game, and whatever EPs you have. When you reinstall the game, you get the option to install elsewhere. Simply browse to the correct folder for whichever it is, and install it there. I am not sure if you have to make a new Program Files folder. I just did that because it seemed like the right thing to do. The important thing is to create the game folders because if you do not install to the default location, it will not create an EA Games folder or a game folder. The icons will show up on the desktop as normal. Grin

rainbow: Thanks for posting that about moving the My Documents folder. I had no idea you could do that! this will make my game run much better I am sure! my main HD is a 60G ATA (older) and my new one is an 80G SATA -fast as hell. I love it!  Now it won't have to search both drives while I am playing. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
423  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Hack to change tv viewing angle? on: 2006 February 22, 21:41:04
Do you both mean that after sims start to watch TV, you can change the TV's angle and they will continue to watch? They don't sit down on a diagonal couch  to watch on their own, do they?

Nope, the tv is at an angle already.
424  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Hack to change tv viewing angle? on: 2006 February 22, 16:06:54
You don't need a hack to change the way they view, actually. If a sim is already sitting, they will not get up to turn the tv on, as long as the screen is viewable from where they are. They will also watch tv while relaxing in bed if there is one available. I found that out by accident when I made a motel lot. I took a screenshot for you so you could see.

I wanted to have the walls up, but the rooms are too small for that. Undecided
