376  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Trapped on an owned community lot on: 2006 April 23, 13:52:06
I thought this was one of the major OFB bugs...saving at community lots makes me nervous, as I do not trust Maxis to deal with that correctly. Therefore I save at community lots if I have done a lot of stuff there and plan to stay, but otherwise I just send them home before I stop playing the family. If the game crashes at a community lot after you have saved there, you can simply load their house and they return from the community lot, though nothing is saved after the save point. It sems much safer that way - and if you have the OFB patch (I don't, it scares me, too) that should have fixed the problem.
377  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Has anyone tried this buyable NPC/Townie maker? on: 2006 April 23, 04:25:37
if you are thinking of the testingcheats option on the letterbox to "generate townies", please note that in OFB this is FUBARed!

I didn't know that. In what way is it fubared. Don't tell me I've generated a BFBVFS in a hood where I'm finally nearly up to gen3. Sad

It works fine only in a non pre-made maxis hood, and if you only have a base hood - no subhoods attached.
378  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: Crumplebottom Fix on: 2006 April 23, 04:13:36
I thought this might be interesting to check.

Squinge release a mod so we can get even with Mrs. Crumplebottom.  It allow us to annoy, insult, nag, attack, poke, shove, slap & goose Mrs. Crumplebottom.  Here is a direct link to it:  http://www.insimenator.net/showthread.php?t=9764

You must register to that site in order to download it.  It does not cause a conflict with this mod.

I  thought messing with Grumpy Crumpy caused your game to become a BFBVFS. That hack scares me.
379  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: No Auto Reassigning Workers on: 2006 April 21, 22:07:41
This hack is working well for me, and I haven't experienced anything odd like that at all.
380  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: DeleteAllCharacters?? Need it step by step on: 2006 April 20, 00:54:50
A good step by step is impossible until this feature of OFB is fixed.

If you really want to have it done by the game generator, uninstall OFB*. Create a neighborhood. Add the UNI + NL hoods. Delete All Characters. Create a sim and put them on the lot. Use the testing cheat to spawn NPCs, Townies, and Downtownies. Go into Uni and let it spawn the Uni characters. Exit. Install OFB. At this point, decide whether you really want the OFB subhood or not. I didn't bother adding it because I didn't want the ugly OFB characters.

Of course, this doesn't work if you like your current neighborhood and would like to keep it as OFB uninstall will make your current neighborhood incompatible or some such nonesense.

Just make SURE if you uninstall OFB to make a backup in a safe place(like on disk) of all custom SC4 terrains that still have "city" in the beginning of the name. I uninstalled OFB yesterday and it deleted all of them.
381  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Anyone have Townies they are willing to upload on: 2006 April 19, 17:09:28
Probably a lame question (I feel like I'm overlooking something really obvious), but how do you make a sim into a townie?  I saw a reference to Inge's shrub upthread--is that the only way?

Inge's shrub or the Family Tree you can spawn with the InSIMenator I don't know of any other ways.
382  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Game not generating townies. on: 2006 April 19, 16:54:09
there is a post about that problem here http://www.moreawesomethanyou.net/smf/index.php?topic=4031.0 as well as how you can make it work (for the most part)
383  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Random lot questions, Maxis made and imported on: 2006 April 18, 23:34:08
You could try moving all your floor files out of your download folder, and then browse to that folder with clean installer, pick the ones you want through it since you can view the thumbnails, and then move them back into your downloads. If the one you picked doesn't work, delete or move it elsewhere, and then move another copy of that same floor into your downloads folder.

Mine are almost entirely cc ...bodybuilder mesh, hair, clothes. That is the only thing I would be worried about. I keep all genetics in one folder, clothes in another...all hacks are isolated. So I could zip the appropriate cc too without including any nasty surprises, if you didn't have it already. Character files are easy to zip and send as well, but are neighborhood specific. Mine are neighborhoods 2 and 3. Most of them would be bald and revert to maxis clothes, but the body meshes may pose a problem if you don't have them installed.
386  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Anyone have Townies they are willing to upload on: 2006 April 18, 05:12:49
If that's not enough, I am happy to send some of mine, I have about 100 or so - lost count Tongue
387  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: DeleteAllCharacters?? Need it step by step on: 2006 April 18, 05:10:11
I have tested this over the last few days with a number of confugurations. The first thing I noticed was that since OFB, whenever you delete all character files (however you do it), a townie will generate the very first sim you move into a house, on load. Another one will generate a couple of sim hours later. So far it hasn't gone beyond 2 and the basic NPCs. I made my custom neighborhoods before OFB and counted files as I was creating my own townies and downtownies. The only sims were the ones I made and the NPCs.

Pre-made Maxis neighborhoods seem to get an error when you try to create townies. I went digging through the Pleasantview files and saw that the text list files had a huge amount of other data associated with them that were not text lists like in all my custom neighborhoods. Relationship values - all unknown towards unknown, as well as lot descriptions, wants and fears. For some reason, DAC soesn't delete all the character information and sticks what is left in the Text List section in SimPE, and when you try to create townies and get an error, it will create the same sim multiple times, yet they only have partial data, have the unknown  "Mr. Potatohead" Icon, and have relationship points with each other - weird. Manually deleting the characters doesn't help. Instead of all these things showing up in the Text List they show up in the proper section. Maxis hoods have all character info in every file it seems, and a lot of the lots have special information attached to them. Deleting them doesn't help either.

Any time you delete all characters and then try to create townies with a subhood already attached, it will generate an error.  New and empty base neighborhoods have no problems. If you create your own townies and downtownies in CAS and export them it works fine with a subhood attached.

Edit:

I tried something else that works. I made a base hood, used deleteallcharacters, and then generated townies. I made a note of the highest character file number (while I was still in game), which should be user00032 if you only made one playable sim. Then I made a downtown. I exited the game, and deleted all new files, 00033 - 00110. Went back into the game and generated downtownies successfully, only ended up with 54 fewer files - which is good in my book.

For the record, I do not use DAC for my neighborhoods. I used it for testing this problem only. For my neighborhoods I always make the neighborhoods and then delete all files in the character folder. I also have never used "spawn townies" or "spawn downtownies" until this. I make my own and export them. I just wanted to test for those who like to use DAC.
388  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: My sims complain a lot on my home business on: 2006 April 16, 21:05:19
They will complain about sims that they dislike being on your lot...especially if they are enemies with the sim...perhaps that is it?
389  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Random lot questions, Maxis made and imported on: 2006 April 16, 19:02:06
I get that sometimes, too. Somehow they have different file names, and it only happens when I install packaged lots - even ones I packaged myself. I'm thinking that perhaps it is either the packaging or unpacking process that randomly changes or scrambles the file name for some unkown reason.
390  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: issues with macros - and another odd problem. on: 2006 April 16, 06:22:04
No problem, I really had fun figuring it out! I was determined to figure out which file DAC corrupted, and find out if there was a way to fix it. Made my night, actually.  Cheesy
391  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: issues with macros - and another odd problem. on: 2006 April 16, 06:12:34
To solve this problem: go to your neighborhoods folder and delete NeighborhoodManager.package, as this is the file deleteallcharacters corrupts. It will recreate when you reload the game, and you will be able to create townies again.

This only works for certain if you have not created sub neighborhoods, have no townie-related hacks installed, and if you had such hacks installed, have removed them and deleted groups.cache, too. It does work with the teleporter plus shrub installed.

Checked with all sub neighborhoods. No dice. Otherwise, it fixes the problem.

392  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Best Nvidia Driver for OFB? Anybody know? on: 2006 April 13, 23:23:05
I am using the fx5500 with the 84.21 drivers and it is running quite well, though I am going to try that vsync thing to see if it makes any difference. I have very densely packed downtowns, and it lags in neighborhood view...that is obviously my fault for insisting that every occupiable space has a building  of some sort on it  Cheesy

Edit: disabling vsync made it really choppy. I guess it doesn't work for me.

Oh, I forgot...my other windows account has a 1.12GB downloads folder, though about 50% is the same as my other one.  Roll Eyes

1.31GB, 4,331 files....seems to have doubled in the last month somehow Roll Eyes
395  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: About individualism in sims, obsessive/stupid behaviour, mods and feeling lonely on: 2006 April 07, 07:37:27
Most of my sims have kept their individuality despite all the hacks and expansions...as long as I keep them at home or take them out somewhere not sim-owned. Perhaps you were expecting more and didn't get it so it seems like you got less?

There are countless - actually limitless -  ways to play the game, and I go off on a new tangent every few days or so. I temporarily forget about a number of my sims, but go back to them eventually.
396  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Internet-Cafe Computer (Visitor Enabled Computer) on: 2006 April 06, 16:34:52
What happened to the download file?

This was the buggy version based off of the expensive Maxis computer, there is a new version by him based off the Moneywell at MTS2 that works really well.

http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=137106

The files were lost with a site mishap a couple of weeks ago, and not all of them were replaced.
397  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Career Outfit on: 2006 April 02, 23:35:51
I used this outfit for Valeria when I made my Conan characters. I love it! I got it through using debugging mode in CAS, though.

There's a prohibition on posting links to adult sites here?  This isn't the BBS

C

I (personally) just make it a habit of not posting links to adult sites for two reasons: One, it just seems inappropriate in case there are younger kids. Two, the link wouldn't work for most people anyway since you have to be a member to download. Why would I want to put up a potentially broken link?

I don't have a clue what the BBS rules are - I have never posted there. I only visit the EA site for patches.

Make sense to you now?

Nec. I appreciate u showing the pictures! Cheesy
*grasps* there's a goth male wearing a skirt and I have been resisting downloading skirts like that for my males!  Cheesy

No problem Smiley Yes, that is the Sephiroth coat, but I have many goth bois in skirts and corsets. I also have a few cross dresses and one tranny. I have a large variety of types in my neighborhoods...makes it far more interesting!

I wonder if Twojeffs' hack works on the MTS2 altar?

And can I ask, Nec, where the red-paned large gothic window in your screenshots came from? I need more colorful windows for my church, as the grey stone and wrought-iron windows are clashing with my Strangetown Adobe-style church.

I have no idea about his hack, there may be some information on it at the altar download page. I got the windows from a lot I downloaded at mts2 (specifically for the windows, but it has a ton of other goodies in it, too) here: http://forums.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=115590&highlight=confession

I got this Lara Croft at Spicy Sims in the models section. I can't post a link, though, since it is an adult site.
