Dunno if this has already been said, but it seems the new bathroom cabinets don't work on foundations. At least not on residential lots.
77  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: PMBD Member with Game Borkiness Question... on: 2008 September 22, 15:51:41
EmilyTwitch,
do you get the "the application has crashed..." message?

(I've had some crashes with that message on vacation lots, which I haven't resolved yet. I have a theory though, that it is somehow linked to the
portraits regenerating, but I have no proof so far.)
78  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Character Portraits on: 2008 September 20, 17:31:25
I've also noticed portraits changing simply whenever a sim is loaded, including whenever they simply come onto a lot (as a visitor). DO NOT WANT.
Well, that would certainly explain the increased laggage/random crashes I've had on vacation lots; with sims coming and going all the time. The extra lightning strikes on 4 different hot springs didn't exactly help either.  Roll Eyes Seems to me like a path to BFBVFS.

I just had this depressing thought: that eaxis effectively borked the game so it will crash all the time with no hope of recovery - and that eaxis will ignore the borkage because they want people to buy sims 3 instead.   Sad
79  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Character Portraits on: 2008 September 20, 15:09:10
Hmm, it is possible the portraits regeneration crashed my game due to lightning strikes. I was on a vacation community lot, with really bad weather and hot springs = multiple lightning strikes on sims. Which eventually led to the game crashing. This 'feature' seems like a VBT.
I realize this can't be stopped all together, but can it be made to not do this all the time? I don't know exactly what kind memory clog we're talking about, but it certainly doesn't look good.

Question: does it somehow regenerate portraits even for non playable sims? Because that would be horribly bad.
80  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Has the clothing tool changed, or is it AL?? on: 2008 September 19, 12:58:28
Weird. I don't get that new feature at all. I can get as many new outfits as I want without loading the clothing tool more than once. Really really weird. I going to look for duplicates, because that has got to be it - I clean out the hack folder regularly before putting in updates these days. Hmmm.
81  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Did I break the AL wall hanging feature? on: 2008 September 18, 12:59:20
@Ruann, that doesn't seem to be the case in some lots I've been playing. There are no ceilings if there are no ceilings on the second storey.
If I put ceilings on the second storey, there's automatically ceilings on the first storey. Granted, this is HP's mega hood I'm playing, which was installed after I installed AL.
-----
After some initial testing, it seems the dimming appears when there's no ceilings - placing ceilings makes the dimming appear less or not at all.
Possibly that goes for rooms where you have ceilings already and experience the dimming on wall objects - which means it should go away if you remove and place the ceiling again.

Really weird issue this.  Huh
82  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Gunmod's Radiance Light System 2.3 beta 1.6a on: 2008 September 16, 10:56:15

@Crash

Thanks for the information. I'm not sure if its possible to fix this as it might be hard-coded in the exe.

Is that happening with the default lighting?
Yes, that's basically what I said in my last post. Wink
83  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Did I break the AL wall hanging feature? on: 2008 September 15, 20:58:52
Chain Reaction, I have noticed a certain inconsistency with this issue - it's not as much different objects, but a single objects sometimes acts out and sometimes don't. I used the new shelves that came with AL, and in one hood they were considerably dimmed, but when I loaded another hood the dimming effect was almost next to none. A possible difference, that is yet to be confirmed, is that there was no ceilings on the lot where the dimming occurred. I have noticed that some lots actually do not get defaults ceilings for some reason.
84  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Updating CC for AL on: 2008 September 15, 20:54:27
There's a .bak file generated sometime when I edit the .package files (possibly when I save?). What is it for, and why is it generated?

It's there in case you made a stupid edit and want to go back to your original file. bak = backup.
Aha, of course, stupid of me not to think of that. I assume that means it's safe to delete once I've got things working. Thanks for the explanation - I am kinda new to editing stuff in simpe.  Cheesy
85  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Updating CC for AL on: 2008 September 15, 19:27:16
Thanks for this! I have actually updated CC all by myself now, and it worked nicely. But I have a question. There's a .bak file generated sometime when I edit the .package files (possibly when I save?). What is it for, and why is it generated?
86  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Apartment fixes on: 2008 September 15, 19:09:23
I had the one about the family unable to go into their apartment.  Was it the family with toddlers?   I think one of the toddlers got stuck just inside the door.  Eventually the family sorted themselves out, after several sim hours, and were able to go inside.  I might look at making a fix so that if it happens again they will be able to just "jump over" the obstruction lol.
Well, incidentally they had a baby, and it was just inside the door. But first they just stood staring at each other on the other side of the lot, so I am not sure what happened exactly. I used my playable sim to call them and then say good bye, and that made them first stand outside of the door for a while, then they suddenly went inside and stood there instead. Truth be told, I can't be sure it's your hack that are doing this, maybe it's just regular borkage. I will take out your fix and see what happens - I don't have any other hacks besides awesomeware because I took out twojeffs after they crashed my game. The family is the Patels, so we might be able to throw the blame on eaxis for this one - I'll test more.
87  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Apartment fixes on: 2008 September 15, 15:00:19
Pescado, when can we expect the undiscovered shiny to be discovered? Is it one of those we have to encourage fat gwilly people to ask for? Because I want to nom nom nom it!

Inge, I tried out your fix, and it seemed to work as intended on most lots, however I had some issues with a lot where another family's apartment were visible - these neighbors just stood around doing nothing after a while, starting to stink. They didn't even go inside their apartment, and when they finally did, they still just stood there. When I played said family, everything was fine, and the other family was working fine. I am going to test out some more.

Gotta say though, it was kinda nice and shocking to have the room mate actually go to sleep in a bed!
88  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Gunmod's Radiance Light System 2.3 beta 1.6 on: 2008 September 14, 12:22:46
Thanks for looking into this dDefinder.

I just got replies in 'oops! you broke it!', and it seems this has nothing to do with this mod (although the dimming gets much more visible with the mod), as you say. The dimming is still there, even after uninstalling the mod, and others have reported the same issue even without ever installing the mod. Sorry for assuming too much.

Dunno what can be done to fix this though - or if the mod can be made helpful in some way. Someone more awesome than me will have to come up with answers to that.

Edit: also, I have noticed a certain inconsistency as how much an object will dim. I hopped to another hood last night, and certain objects didn't seem to dim at all (or just very little) while other objects was dimmed more. For instance, in one hood I tried placing the AL shelves, and they became considerably dimmed. In the other hood, the shelves were just a little dimmed (almost not discernible). Confusing to say the least.
89  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Did I break the AL wall hanging feature? on: 2008 September 14, 12:15:52
Thanks for your answers guys.
Allright, so I haven't broken anything. That's a relief in a way, because that means reinstalling won't help. I'm going to do some more research in game - I played another hood last night and the dimming was almost not discernible (although it was there). It might have had something to do with the fact that I had to place ceilings after a while - not sure.
90  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Did I break the AL wall hanging feature? on: 2008 September 13, 23:35:06
As I reported here I have problems with the AL wall hanging feature borking. First I thought it was because of the Lighing mod, but after I 'uninstalled' the mod, the borkage is still there.
The borkage symptoms is that the lighting is normal when I put the wall hangings on normal hight or higher, but putting the wall hanging lower than the normal height, makes the object considerably dimmed. As far as I know, this borkage appeared after I installed the lighting mod.
Uninstalling the mod did not undo the borkage.

To my question: is this a to the lighting mod unrelated AL bork, or did I break the game by installing the mod? I can't imagine anything else but the lighting mod causing this. Can someone more awesome than me point me in the right direction how to solve this?

The last resort would be to reinstall the game, with all the EPs and SPs. In the meantime, I will do more research through refurnishing my downloads folder.
91  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Apartment Life Borkiness, or how i ended the world in 1 hour. on: 2008 September 13, 23:21:31
Interesting finds knukleur. Still, it doesn't explain why an apartment lot can work perfectly in the creators game, then magically bork when downloaded.

Could the placement of the lot have something to do with it? I don't claim knowledge in this area, but could the surrounding area when placing the lot effect the outcome? - As cardinal points seems to have something to do with it...
92  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Apartment Life Borkiness, or how i ended the world in 1 hour. on: 2008 September 11, 23:13:35
Okay, I tried rezoning the downloaded lots (to residential then back to apartment) before moving in, but that didn't work. I had to remove the landings and put other stairs (I chose spiral stairs) in the apartments. Then it worked. This is a very annoying issue.
93  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Apartment Life Borkiness, or how i ended the world in 1 hour. on: 2008 September 11, 20:54:58
Well, I can't imagine why I'm having this issue then. One lot that I've been having problem with is one of yours accidentally. (The third apartment lot that's in the peasantry) I knew of course that you test your lots before sharing, so that's why I was wondering what the heck happened when I suddenly had this weird issue. I played the top right apartment, and the upstairs was not included in the apartment, seemingly. I couldn't change anything, or put anything there, and the furniture was still there. No idea what could cause this - I thought the deck explanation made sense. I haven't tried rezoning yet though.
94  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Apartment Life Borkiness, or how i ended the world in 1 hour. on: 2008 September 11, 19:11:18
You don't need to rezone it, but I think you have to move any playable Sims out first.  In build or buy mode in a vacant building, CTRL+ALT+SHIFT to open the console/cheat window, enter "boolprop AptBaseLotSpecificToolsDisabled false" (without the quotes, but can be all in lower case). You may have to switch from build mode to buy mode and back to build mode to see the changes in the build mode icons.  Then you can delete staircases, stages, and other items that may be in the way of the replacement stairs, put your replacement stairs in, and save.  Make a test Sim to try the lot out in live mode.  The rent will likely be higher than before, since the levels that were previously blocked will be included now.
I actually did move out my playable and fixed some stuff - except for the stairs which I didn't know was the problem at the time -  but I managed to screw up the apartment boundaries so that the lot was counted as 1 single apartment. Really annoying. That's why I thought maybe I needed to rezone. It was HP's lot that I got from mts2 - I changed the flowers at the back, because I thought maybe that was the problem. Anyway, I think it's a shame that the lot doesn't work properly - and I figure that it must have worked for HP, so that's why I asked about the rezoning.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again: stages are causing me no problems in apartment lots. I almost never build a staircase that isn't modular stairs with a turn on a stage. I've played several apartments made from my lots that I've converted after this issue first being reported on LJ. I've never had any problem with the top floor being recognized as part of the apartment or being able to place objects there without cheats.
Fair enough, I also have apartments that works with modular stairs. But something is causing this issue, and so far I've only had this problem with downloaded lots. Have you played any downloaded lots, or do you always make them yourself?

Issues with 'upstairs' in apartments are driving me insane.

At one apartment lot the upstairs is counted as outside of the apartment, I can't change furniture or wallpapers.
In another lot the neighbors upstairs is completely visible even though someone lives there, and the neighbors downstairs is hidden.

They both are downloaded apartment lots, maybe I need to load them in build mode once to get them to work properly?

Do any of these lots use the stage foundations as a stairway landing between floors?  I had issues similar to yours when I used these on the ground floor/entrance level of some townhouses with garages.  Replacing the landings with a straight run of stairs or a spiral stair fixed it.  AL must be treating the edge of a stage as a boundary when the zoning change is invoked, similar to the way it treats carpet strips and flowerbed edging in the "fence" category.
Ah, that explains it. Much appreciate your answer - I was going insane not knowing what the problem was. The apartments in question does indeed use stage foundations. Is there a way to fix it maybe? Maybe I need to make the lot residential then turn it into apartment again?

97  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Gunmod's Radiance Light System 2.3 beta 1.6 on: 2008 September 10, 00:16:10
I have installed the mod in AL, and I am very pleased with the lighting. However I have encountered a problem regarding the new
wall hanging feature in AL.

As you can see, when I hang paintings and shelves at their normal height or higher, they are as bright as they should be, but if I hang them even the tiniest little bit lower than their 'normal' height, they become dimmed with this mod. See image for reference:

If there is a way to fix this, I would be thrilled. As it is atm I can't use the wall hanging feature and this mod at the same time.

Edit: also, I have noticed that there isn't any light on the closet 'doors' - they are completely dimmed. I have to put a light inside the closet to make the door light up. The issue with the wall hanging feature is the one thing that really is bugging me though; I have uninstalled this mod for now for that reason. I really miss this mod though, so I hope someone will have time to fix this sooner or later (if it can be fixed).

Sparkles are caused by a floater like the Plumbob, so it will just return on its own, especially under conditions that cause the plumbob to respawn.
I only get visible sparkles back by reentering the lot (I haven't tried the teleport spell yet). Is that normal then?
100  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Apartment Life Borkiness, or how i ended the world in 1 hour. on: 2008 September 02, 15:07:03
My teory about sparkles is what if not perform magic thing for a time you lost it and regain doing magic thing. A have a sin witch for while was too busy to do magic things and lost the sparkles, went do somenthing magican the sparkles back.

That doesn't apply to me sadly enough, because the sparkles are still there, they're just invisible (or almost invisible).
