26  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Dance Sphere Abductions and Engagement wants after FT. on: 2009 November 09, 18:54:09
As a warning (or perhaps not a warning), he can get abducted and knocked up from a Dance Sphere on ANY residential lot, not just his own.  I learned that the hard way.
27  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: camera problems on: 2009 October 24, 23:31:56
The only suggestion I have is to go into CameraMan Mode in Buy/Build Mode so that you can see how the adjustments you're making outside of it look when you're in CameraMan Mode in Live Mode.  If you set a hotkey when you're in CameraMan Mode, it'll work even if you're in Buy or Build Mode, so you can get the angles the same.
28  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Simple abduction question on: 2009 October 23, 01:38:30
You're probably using a more recent version of the hack than I am, but the bit where it said the odds were higher for Knowledge Sims was buried pretty far down in the RTFM.
29  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Simple abduction question on: 2009 October 22, 23:40:09
TJ's higher odds hack only REALLY amps up the odds for Knowledge Sims; not sure how it works with Knowledge as a Secondary.

Have you tried creating a test lot in another 'hood with a home business and 2 Sims to stargaze, one of whom is Knowledge and the other whatever Jon is, and having them stargaze while the business is open?  Stargazing all night every night, a straight-up Knowledge Sim should get abducted within 7-8 nights.  If that doesn't happen, close the business and try again.
30  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: I'm just full of questions these days: number of mesh files in downloads folder on: 2009 October 09, 17:52:03
I haven't heard of crashing due to number of mesh files.  I'm running EPs through Seasons, and have a shit-ton of hair and clothing meshes.  My system is a few years old and the game takes a while to load, but it always does.  If you have a lot of high-poly meshes on a lot with a sub-par system, the computer will have trouble rendering the CC and might crash, but that's an artifact of the poly-count of the meshes, not simply having new meshes.

As far as tolerating fewer downloads, look at Mac users--they don't have any EPs past BV, and are missing quite a few of the SPs as well, and I don't know of any Mac users who have limits on the amount of CC they can have.  Like I said, my system's not the greatest, and isn't capable of running FT or AL, and I try to cull my CC periodically just to keep things running quickly.  It's not an issue with the GAME, it's an issue with my 3+ year-old laptop and its graphics card and processor.  There's no issue with earlier games handling fewer downloads; I don't think you can make it independent of compatibility issues, since most people who CAN install more EPs DO, and the people who CAN'T don't have the greatest computers to start with, so there's your problem right there.
31  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Werewolf Conversion Type Thingamabob.. on: 2009 October 07, 22:10:33
It's possible to turn it into a default replacement for the werewolf skin, just like the replacement vampires and PlantSim skins.  I'm sure there's a tutorial for making creature defaults over on Mod the Sims somewhere.
32  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Cleaning a hood or starting from scratch? on: 2009 October 07, 18:01:59
There are also any number of default face template replacement mods you can download and install to replace the EA fug for Townies and NPCs that the game generates, whether you're using clean templates or not.
33  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Toddlers being ejected out of their high chairs. on: 2009 September 16, 19:37:08
I don't have AL, so I have no idea what you can do with building, but in regular houses, with moveobjects on, you can usually tile the area right under the peak of roofs and stick stuff up in the "attic" that wouldn't normally be able to be placed there.  It works on the same principle as an inaccessible basement.  Also, using moveobjects on to stick a small item inside a larger item to make it inaccessible also works.  They're whining about wanting a MyShuno?  Buy 'em one, slap it inside an end table or a counter.  They might footstomp about not being able to get at it, but at least they won't constantly be USING it.
34  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Toddlers being ejected out of their high chairs. on: 2009 September 15, 05:46:45
I think I've had a toddler use the high chair exactly once, and it was because the Servo put the spawnlet in there while I was otherwise occupied.  It's not like they don't learn to eat food if you don't use the high chair.

When it comes to annoying Wants to "BUY ME STUFF" I've found that the best thing to do is buy it for them, and then stick the object somewhere inaccessible, like an attic, a doorless room, a room locked for everyone, anyplace like that.  The advantage is that they get the Aspiration from having gotten it, but won't be able to use it, and since it's still on the lot, they won't roll Wants to buy that specific object again.  They'll just roll "BUY ME DIFFERENT STUFF" Wants.
35  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Fed up w/the fuglies. To 'hide' or 'replace' - that is the question... on: 2009 August 25, 01:28:18
Maybe it's an obvious question, but have you run your CC through jfade's Compressorizer?  It won't help if you have a corrupt file, but it will make the rest of the files smaller.
36  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Owner Stuck on Lot: Might be the Food Stands? on: 2009 August 21, 00:42:21
When in doubt, Force Error... On All.  It has saved my sanity more times than I care to count.
37  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Owner Stuck on Lot: Might be the Food Stands? on: 2009 August 20, 03:49:53
Nuking loiterers is a button under Nuke, not Force Errors.

I usually just hit Force Error... On All to cover all my bases.  Last time I had an off-world loiterer, that got rid of him.
38  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Owner Stuck on Lot: Might be the Food Stands? on: 2009 August 19, 02:52:32
You might want to try nuking off-world loiterers with the Lot Debugger before you nuke the chefs.  Sometimes visitors get stuck just off-world, and the owner won't leave the lot because s/he thinks they're still there.  Make sure you don't have Debug Mode on, then use Force Error... Off-World on the Lot Debugger.
39  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Question about multiple universities on: 2009 August 10, 20:00:09
Each uni spawns its own unique set of Dormies.  If you add all three unis, you'll end up with three complete sets of Dormies, SS members, Streakers, the whole bit.  You can delete the subhoods, if you don't want to have three uni subhoods, and the Dormies will migrate to whatever Uni is left.

The Bin Sims do get shared between the subhoods.
40  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: telescope spawns angry townies ? on: 2009 August 09, 01:46:48
Why some Sims can look through the telescope in the daytime and not get slapped while others get a seemingly endless stream of Mortimer Goth/Lisa Ramirez/Vidcund Curious types has to do with Nice or Outgoing points, I forget which.  Extremely Outgoing or Mean Sims will use the telescope to spy on other Sims, which leads to slapping.  Sims who are less Outgoing or Mean (not necessarily Shy or Nice) will spy on THINGS rather than people, and won't get slapped.
41  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Breeding results in huge eyebags... ALWAYS - no matter what. on: 2009 July 28, 03:05:10
Definitely looks like an Enayla skin issue.  I've got one of her skins that was downloaded with someone's SimSelf, and her kids have some undereye baggage.  Not quite as bad as the bags in the pictures, but it's a Pixie skin, which cut down on a lot of it.

Short of pulling your Downloads and SavedSims folders, do the bags go away if you switch the Sims to a non-Enayla skin?
42  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Is it possible to mix 'n' match poses from different boxes? on: 2009 July 25, 22:16:28
Eating is easy.  Removing bits while leaving the animal alive is a totally different thing.  Especially when you're doing it without losing any blood.
43  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Is it possible to mix 'n' match poses from different boxes? on: 2009 July 25, 21:55:00
OK.  I'll go see if I can hunt down someone with a rudimentary understanding of coding.  I'm a science person.  My skill set is very different.  If you ever need a rodent's gonads removed in 8 minutes or less, I'm your girl.
44  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Is it possible to mix 'n' match poses from different boxes? on: 2009 July 25, 21:04:15
There are a ton of custom pose mods available.  Most of them seem to have one or two decent or new poses, and the rest are either retreads (how many times do we need to see Asian-Sim-making-sideways-V-for-victory-hand-next-to-face?) or bad (Sweet Jeebus, NO ONE BENDS THAT DIRECTION).  This leads to much pose box clutter, and since most of them are made by Asian modders, there's no readable text (let alone descriptive text) to let those of us who aren't Asian know what pose is what and where Snap Reset is.

Is there a way to take the pose boxes apart, extract the desired poses, condense them into a different pose box, and add descriptive text?  I've looked around Mod for a tutorial and came up empty, and if there are tutorials on the pose box sites, they're completely unintelligible to me.

How do schools not teach tense and subject/verb agreement anymore?  Is this like the "New Math" where kids don't learn times tables or fractions that aren't 1/2, 1/4, 3/4, 1/3, or 2/3?  That's like trying to build a functional house out of pretzel sticks and spit.

I am all for Child Left Behind.  If you're a dumbass, learn the basics.  If you're not a dumbass, learn stuff that actually challenges you.

Did I say I believe EVERYTHING I see on TV?

Oh, so you only believe the stuff that conforms to your preconceived stereotypes.  Yeah, that's totally different.
47  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Important notice from the GRAMMAR POLICE. Plz read. This means you. on: 2009 July 19, 20:17:47
Says a lot about the sharpness of your mind if you believe everything you see on TV.

Your high horse is very pretty.  May I pet him?
48  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Related To Her HUSBAND? on: 2009 July 18, 20:34:01
I also have EPs through Seasons, and I've always gotten the little "Family" icon on the spouse's thumbnail.  I don't think that "Family Kiss" is usually an option, though.  Do you know how high HIS relationship to HER was at the time?  I've had some odd relationship things with Downtownies, where my Sim's relationship to them will be something like 90/50, and their relationship to my Sim will be 0/0.  Maybe something happened between them to kick down that relationship so that not all of the Romantic Kiss options were available, but Family Kiss is there because they're now flagged as family.

Don't know about the crashing, though.  Have you done all the computer-related stuff like running your Disk Cleanup and Defrag, making sure your drivers are updated, and removing the case and dusting the insides off with an air-duster to keep everything cool?

I either paid my phone bill or ordered a Russian bride.  Time will tell which!

So, either way, you won.

Of course, you may have just adopted a dog.

Yes, but I live in California!  When my Russian bride gets here, she'll be so upset since we can't get married.  And I really don't want to move to Iowa.

But mumblers are my bane. The range of my hearing, high and low, is great, but I have slight middle ear deafness ("crowd deafness") that turns mumbles to mush, especially if there is background noise. Films that play background music or noises at nearly the same freq. as the people speaking...ooh, I hate that.

Hey, I have that, too. I didn't know it had an actual name. I think mine comes from listening to too much overly loud music as a teen. We didn't have all these fancy warnings like you whippersnappers do.

I am totally guilty of mumbling, but I can enunciate when I need to.  I agree that it's not always easy to decipher.  I just had to go through an automated phone menu where the recorded voice sounded a whole lot like Alvin the chipmunk with a mouthful of oatmeal speaking from the bottom of an oil drum.  I either paid my phone bill or ordered a Russian bride.  Time will tell which!
