151  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Fell In Love With Self? on: 2008 April 25, 19:20:50
Hmm.  Seems like it may have been caused from using the Quick Relations Adjuster sectional of the InSimenator during the rebuild, but so far, it's not affecting all the Sims I did that with, and it's not coinciding with when I did it, at least for some of them.  That's the strange part--it seems like it should be all-or-none, and it isn't.

I guess now the issue is, do I nuke the memories in SimPE and keep playing the 'hood, or give it up as a lost cause and rebuild again, avoiding using InSim to make friends?

OK, I JUST did a total neighborhood rebuild (as in, finished it a week and a half ago) after some game-killing glitches in both my neighborhood and backup, and things are already going south again.

Last night, one of my Sims rolled a Want to Dance with himself.  I checked his Memory Panel, and he has the memory of falling in love with himself.

I've got all EPs through Seasons and H&M.  Everything's patched.  The only hacks I have that aren't FFS are Hula&More, Decorgal's posing mods, and a mod to make single-serving desserts for bakeries.  And I DO have the dramafix/metself hack in place, and have since before the rebuild.

Obviously, to rebuild 4 generations worth of Legacy in my neighborhood, I had to cheat quite a bit.  Lot Debugger, InSim sectionals, Debug Mode, Sim Modder, SimPE, the whole nine yards.

I've found several other Sims with the Fell In Love With Self memory, although none of them have the Met Self memory.  Nuking junk memories with the Lot Debugger doesn't make the memory go away.  The memory does not seem to coincide with all the rebuilding cheatiness--in some cases, it does, which makes my backup worthless again, in the event that this is another game-killing deal, but in other cases, it's a relatively recent memory from well past the point of using InSim or Debug Mode on them.  Not all Sims have the memory, even if I did use cheat-type things on them (and, let's face it, I had to rebuild the entire neighborhood; the only playable Sims who didn't ever get the cheat treatment somewhere down the line are the EAxis-mades).

If I go into SimPE and delete the memories, is that going to eliminate whatever problem this will generate, or do I have to nuke the neighborhood again and rebuild from scratch a second time?  And how do I tell what's caused the problem so that it doesn't happen again/keep happening?  I REALLY don't want to have to rebuild right now, just after I managed to get things up and running, but I don't want to play too much farther in case I'm staring a BFBVFS in the eye again.  And when a Popularity Sim Wants to Play With himself, that can't be a good thing.

This happened to me last month.  The thread's farther down the page: There But Not-There Sims.  You can try some of what was suggested to me in there.

Bad news?  There was no fixing it.  I had to rebuild the neighborhood from scratch rather than risk just re-creating the missing Sims and leaving whatever glitch created the problem in place.  The good news?  You're losing two days and not four generations.

Well, I've cleaned up hoods with just these kind of problems and they play fine.  Did you move your back-up in, or copy it over?  If you copied it over, try removing all the files for that neighbourhood and copying the complete folder in again, and then defrag and reboot.  If the characters are still not showing in SimPE, try uninstalling, reinstalling SimPE to force it to look harder.

If, as I understand it, you have two copies of the same sim, then when you check in the Sim Browser you will probably find that only one is a normal size, the other being only about 35 kb, the same as unlinked ghosts, and will also be flagged with no character data.  However, it will probably be the larger file which shows as unlinked, so you need to relink the larger file - which will have lost all it's relationships etc.  However, that information is probably contained in the smaller ncd file, so you can open that file, make a note of all the missing information and then open the "person" sim's file and restore all those details, memories and relationships.  After you have done that, there are safe ways of deleting the "game object" file, which is covered by JM in the Deleted 2:Electric Boogaloo! instructions.

I'm not super computer-savvy when it comes to messing around in programming like that, let alone with SimPE.

I did install the version of SimPE for BV, and the Sims in question still don't show up.  Definitely a frustrating situation.

Have you checked in SimPE to see if they have, by some mischance, become unlinked?

They don't show up in SimPE.

It's been suggested that I nuke the 'hood and rebuild from scratch.  Probably safest.

My Riverblossom Hills was getting uncomfortably glitchy, so I restored a backup.  The problem is that my backup seems wonky too.

I have all EPs through Seasons, fully patched, and H&M.  Problem occurs even after pulling Downloads/Hacks.

I have two households with Sims who are there, but not really there.  Their thumbnails show up in the side panel, but they're invisible in the house, the plumbbobs flicker in and out, and they can't interact with anything or be interacted with.  I've tried adding someone to the household and using the Lot Debugger to Force Error, and nothing changes.  I've tried moving them in and out of lots, and nothing changes.  If I save the lot, exit, and re-enter, they disappear completely, no side panel thumbnails, no nothing, like they were never even there.  I haven't found a way to kill them, so I can't rez them to see if that makes them normal again.  I assume this is occuring because the character files were corrupt when I made the backup.

Is there anything else I can do to try to get them back or fix the character files?  All my characters are extracted and safely ensconced in another neighborhood for ease of cloning, but I'd rather salvage them if I can, so I don't have to try and repair the family trees and relationships in SimPE.  And if I do have to remake them, will it re-kill my 'hood if I name the doppelgangers the same thing as the originals (the clones latching on to whatever bits of character files from the originals are floating around in the ether, like)?

About the phone call problem, I've fixed it by giving the sim that should be receiving a call a cell phone. Invite them to the lot around 4:00 (or whenever the call usually comes in) keep them there until the call comes and they answer it on their cell phone. After that the caller will call the correct lot. (Well, it's been a while, but I'm pretty sure that how it worked.)

This has always worked for me.  The only other way to avoid the incessant phone calls is to wait for the inevitable post-date Random Townie Phone Call before sending them off to college or growing them up.  The only problem I've had with giving the Sim a cell phone and inviting them over is when the calls come at random times instead of 4pm; you might have to figure out a way to make them stick around for a while.  I was getting those calls at 11pm.

The flashing-face glitch was fixed within a day or two of it showing up by Changing Appearance in a mirror.  He'd never used a Senso Orb, didn't have one in his inventory.

I've had a few Sims show up with default faces that are most definitely not their own (Malcolm Landgraab's son should not look like a Face Two, TYVM), but Changing Appearance fixes them as well.

The appearance glitches aren't what's making me run screaming for my backup.  The inability to leave household-owned community lots and the constant resetting of one of my heirs are what's making the game unplayable.

Am I the only one who thinks Bruno's model sort of looks like Michelle Pfeiffer after a bad facelift?

Nope, no custom skintones.  He had custom hair, which showed up fine.  He just came home from school one day with no face.

I deleted the .cache files; nothing changed.

I definitely don't have any dead-Sim ghosts on my community lots, and even if I did, they wouldn't be active during the day.  Don't know about "ghosts" of shoppers that have-left-but-not-really.  And the odds of that being the case on all three of my owned community lots has to be pretty slim.

I have all EPs through Seasons and the H&M SP.  Game is patched.  Pulled Downloads folder, nothing was fixed.  Minimal hacks, all from MATY.

Things were going swimmingly in my 'hood until my Gen 4 Legacy kids came back from Uni.  Then things started going not-swimmingly.  I suspect BFBVFS is imminent.  I have a backup I can revert to, but it's older than I thought (Bad, bad Nerd, go sit in the corner.  I have learned my lesson, I swear) and if I can fix my game, I'd rather do that instead.  Any help would be much appreciated.

Community Lots:
*I can no longer leave household-owned community lots.  I have three, and this happens to all of them--they drive to the lot, and when I want them to leave, whoever I click on car and Drive Home with will get stuck in the "everybody out of the pool" interaction even if there are no more non-household members on the lot.  The only way to get them to stop is to use the debug mode to Force Error.  Once I've forced error, they stop doing "everybody out of the pool" but will start again if I tell them to leave.  If I call a taxi instead, they'll do "everybody out of the pool" when the taxi arrives and it's about 50/50 whether they'll get in the cab if I Force Error again.
*This does not apply to community lots that are either un-owned or owned by a non-household member.  I can go there, shop, and leave without problems.

Glitched Sim or Lot:
*One of my Gen 4 heirs is behaving oddly.  It seems like she keeps resetting herself.  On the community lot she owns, she was unable to do any sales interactions with customers, and the non-sales interactions were iffy.  She walks over to the other Sims, and then "jumps" like they do when you reset them, and won't initiate any interactions (it's like she has no free will, even though Free Will is on).  She also couldn't leave her lot.
*The same heir, when on a lot owned by someone else, couldn't be interacted with--any time I tried, she'd toggle between "I need help" and browsing.  Eventually she froze and wouldn't leave the lot.
*On her lot, when I try to put one of the cats up for adoption, animal control will show up like it should, but when the cat heads for the door, it will "jump" and not leave.  Eventually the animal control officer will walk off the lot and the car will disappear.
*The lot had a couple of glitches that seemed relatively minor at the time prior to the college years--the youngest child, when he was a toddler, still had a baby icon in the side panel and became a solid black "shadow toddler" when I entered the lot after his birthday.  I grew him up and back down with the Sim Modder and hadn't had trouble with him since.  Following the "shadow baby" glitch, the oldest teenager's face glitched--it just flashed blue and black, but having him Change Appearance in a mirror fixed it.

If you need more information, copies of the error logs, whatever, just tell me what you need and I'll go find it.
