26  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Minor quirks, and a maintenance question. on: 2010 March 05, 22:07:11
I've got no20khandout, which is a godsend, and I'll definitely look into that salary-halving one.

Pes, you might be right about that habit, now that I think on it. Though I make them upgrade all their appliances, decorating and such once they can afford it, it still doesn't seem like it does enough, and they could do a money-pile-roll themselves. I'm a bit similar in real life- no expensive pointless shiny objects, same furniture until it falls apart, yada yada. Old shit has more personality anyway.

@ Rufio: no, the panel is blank for three of them, and one of them has a picture of a slice of the red jelly. His wife is fat, but she is not a jelly. All the other memories in the game so far seem to be alright, so I kind of wonder if it has something to specifically do with the golden anniversary, and having two elder couples throw one on the same lot? Could just be a coincidence that the memories borked though.
27  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Minor quirks, and a maintenance question. on: 2010 March 05, 02:47:28
I've restarted my TS2 gaming and I've painstakingly customised a large degree of the neighbourhood- I want to do my best to keep this one for the long haul. What practices of maintenance are suggested to prevent BFBVFS? I don't care how long I need to spend doing it or how thorough I need to be, I'll do it, but I don't want to have to redo this yet again. I have the batbox and I periodically clean the junk memories and gossip, but beyond those I'm not quite sure what to do aside from not do stupid shit like delete from the bin or vampire-bite Crumplebottom.

I've had the occassional quirk so far- I doubt they're anything major but I want to be sure. I back up every single time I play, regardless- just OCD like that.

1. I had a pair of elder couples age up and both throw golden anniversairy parties, but the memory images are blank- I know how to fix it, but does it mean anything?
2. I got a girl to get a job, and she zipped around the house in the sitting pose like the Exorcist or something before walking to work at ordered- whiskey tango foxtrot?
EDIT: 3. Do we have any safe ways to edit Magic lots or Hobby lots yet? They're the only things I haven't custom-built and I hate that.

As an aside, does anyone know of any good hacks to pare down the beastly amount of money they're making? Even with empty lots to start life on they're ending up around at the 130k-mark come the children reaching adult age. Especially scholarships. Those goddamn college bums. I make every dollar they make go back into the community (ie. make community lots) but the figures are STILL silly.
28  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Graphical glitches with lighting and hairstyles on: 2010 January 23, 21:37:05
Mine is an NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT... and come to think of it, why haven't I thought to actually check the supported cards list?... I am a wally. Though I would think it would work.

Augh. Thanks. I blame my recent use of Facebook on that one. Trying to find other people that speak anything approaching English there is nigh-impossible. Da chatspeek, it r infctin mah brainz.
29  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Graphical glitches with lighting and hairstyles on: 2010 January 22, 20:50:39
I've only just noticed this but its' rightly annoying: With all hairstyles in CAS, the lighting effects have turned all blocky and pixellated. This results in the hair looking like its' been censored or somesuch. I've added no new CC, changed nothing, so what gives?

Possibly related, and I don't know if it belongs in this forum- Spore and TS3 just do NOT seem to get along. If I run TS3 after I've run Spore, it breaks the shit out of Spore. The splash screen goes white with a set of corrupted pixels in the corner, the HUD corrupts so you can't see anything, and the only solution I've found is a full reinstall (restoring every single file in there had no effect). Does anyone have any ideas? It's driving me ballistic. I'm actually enjoying Spore, but reinstalling it EVERY DAY is getting on my nerves. I don't even have to have run TS3 100% of the time for it to shit itself either. And no, I've found no mention of this anywhere... believe me, I've looked.
30  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Error codes 12 and 13 along with crashing. on: 2010 January 19, 20:16:29
amazone: I HAVE noticed that the e12s seem to be minimized in frequency when you merge your .packages to the smallest number possible. I haven't dedicated enough test-time to this to be confident it isn't just happenstance, but it does appear to carry some sort of weight. Down from four 12s to zero in my game. (Fresh file, not the fubar'd one. )
31  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: Awesomod discussion/questions/helpful tips thread on: 2010 January 16, 12:04:52
I had a similar issue show up when I error 12'd, except in my instance it was the most expensive camera. I'm fairly certain the cause was a corrupted Sim somewhere, and forcing the game to save after a 12 BFBVFS'd the whole thing. So if you've saved after this has started showing up, it might end up being new neighbourhood o'clock.
32  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Error codes 12 and 13 along with crashing. on: 2010 January 15, 10:59:20
I went on vacation and saved around an Error 12. Whoo. Do not recommend. People moved into my Sims' house and overrwrote the entire family, one of the Bunch girls decided all of a sudden she had a complete identity change. Spider-toddlers, CTDs, everything short of Godzilla hit that save after that. Created a whole new save file and have had no problems at all since. My conclusion of my little experiment would be that the Error 12 is a legitimate error and not just stubborn game cockery like I was hoping for it to have been. Sounds obvious, but hey, it's EA. We can never be sure how much of it is just ineptitude.  Tongue I also tried saving as a different file instead of overwriting the previous save, no help- the file was no less of a fireball.

In line with ingeli's observation, I didn't notice the Error 12s before adding in a No Autonomous Sprinkler tweak. It could be a coincidence or it could have something to do with it. I'm no coder, so I can't tell for sure.
33  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: Awesomod discussion/questions/helpful tips thread on: 2010 January 12, 17:31:07
I'll try that next time. Neighbourhood just went up in a spectacular fireball of nonsensical glitches- vanishments, stuck inventories, Lisa Bachelor deciding she wasn't related to her siblings anymore and spider-babies a go-go. It went all twilight-zone on my ass.  Tongue

I also have one borked piece of clothing and I can't for the life of me work out what its' from because I haven't recently installed any new CC. It has no upper body part (just makes the head float), but the lower body component is the black silhouette of long shorts and a pair of heels. Is it something broken and shitty I've put in somewhere along the line? It's apparently not deletable, at least from CAS.

I am getting sick of this game so damn hard. If anyone here has ever played Spore, its' also no better in the glitch-tastic fuckuppery department. Christ on a bike, I hate EA.
34  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: AwesomeMod causing red blocks of colour on: 2010 January 12, 09:59:28
That almost certainly would have to do with drivers or hardware rather than the mod. I've never seen it happen in my game, but I agree, it's pretty badass.
35  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: Awesomod discussion/questions/helpful tips thread on: 2010 January 12, 09:57:10
One of my Sims back from vacation has a few relics stuck in her inventory. Is there a command to get them out?
EDIT: "destroycorruptsims" also doesn't appear to be functioning. Has this command been removed/modified? Its' still listed on the AM Wiki page.
36  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: Awesomod discussion/questions/helpful tips thread on: 2010 January 09, 08:29:46
Have you tried evicting them and moving them back in in Edit Town mode? Maybe that could reset the residency status?

Has anyone else noticed in their games that the premade houses have white 'THIS SHOULD NOT APPEAR IN GAME' blocks at the bases of the stairs? They can't be deleted. What are these? Are they only visible because of an enabled debug option?
37  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: Booming homeless population on: 2010 January 08, 16:33:55
I've been having the same issue, but with random families and sims, not clones. So far it's anything from singles to married couples with kids already, but mostly it's large volumes of single YAs in houses numbering 1-4. They don't seem to be filling any particular niches either, such as having specific jobs or roles in town. I haven't worked out why they're showing up yet.

Also seconding the everyone-in-town-is-fucking-around issue, but I haven't looked at their traits to see if this would be normal behaviour. I just assume my town is full of whores. VJ Alvi is a major player and I -know- that ugly bastard has bad traits. What traits determine likelihood to cheat? Commitment Issues and Flirty? (... Shouldn't this be in the main bug thread, by the way? Apologies for posting if so. )
38  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Edit a Sim (with CAS) ingame. (so modify a sim after creation) on: 2010 January 08, 04:12:05
I had that error when I cocked up a reinstall. Had to reinstall again. Be mindful of the order in which you apply patches. AM is only supported for the most recent patch, either way. Using AM, the command 'editsim' gives the functionality you want.
39  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: What're the odds? 8 births, 8 male infants on: 2010 January 08, 04:09:56
I had a similar scenario happen, only with a ridiculous volume of girls. I think I ended up with twelve before it stopped. Even the pair of random triplets in there. (!!!)
I'd put it down to ghastly luck. I agree, it's a pain in the ass. Does reloading have no effect in TS3 on generated traits/gender, or has that just been my experience? I've tried the old TS2 trick of reload-reload-reload, but it just plum doesn't seem to work in TS3.
40  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Bugs in WA on: 2010 January 07, 04:06:45
I can't seem to get my sims' Egyptian boyfriend to marry her. I also invited him to stay, got a message that he'd 'passed on' but he showed up anyway. Their child also didn't have the Egyptian Culture trait when it was born. When travelling to Egypt, all thumbnails in relationship panels and family trees revert to the state they were in on the first trip instead of updating to the state they ought to be in current time.
41  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: Awesomod discussion/questions/helpful tips thread on: 2010 January 06, 08:31:01
Does AM have any effect on the generation of random families? I thought I read Pescado state that AM just creates townies in the event that there are no co-workers in a given career path, but recently I've had a spate of small families created for no apparent reason. One had a pair of little boys, and the only link I can think of at all is that I just passed an age-bracket bottleneck where I had a ridiculous number of children and teens. Maybe it's some sort of compensation? To my knowledge there are no empty career paths and each ought to have at least two members. I could well have dicked up and missed one somewhere, but I don't think so, and the two little boys couldn't be serving that purpose.
42  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Please clarify something about the patch? on: 2010 January 03, 05:11:11
This patch is dreadful... I'd say avoid it, but Pescado's no longer supporting the unpatched AM, and frankly, though this patch did a coiled-up steamer all over my game, it pales in comparison to how annoying it is to play sans-AM. The new patch definitely does have problems. My main issue was slowdown of biblical proportions. ... I'd switch camera view to the park, and, no joke, it'd take a good 15 minutes for it to finish rendering the thing.
43  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Family tree editing for offspring of pre-existing Sims, from previous save? on: 2009 December 27, 12:08:24
Whoops, sorry, my idiot way of saying that I can change the appearance of the current version of both men who have fathered children in the past neighbourhood, and the portraits both update in the child's trees.

Think it's likely to cause a major issue anywhere?
44  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Family tree editing for offspring of pre-existing Sims, from previous save? on: 2009 December 27, 11:42:36
I've tried the Twallan 'Remove Parent' option, but it doesn't seem to work for this instance. Changing the appearance of one or another of the fathers updates the portrait in the childrens' family trees, so maybe it's an incomplete reference of some sort? The sims themselves seem to 'realise' what their relationship to each other is, the only obvious symptom is that one stubborn link. Is there any means of purging relationships entirely? ...It annoys me enough to do that and relink the trees.
45  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Family tree editing for offspring of pre-existing Sims, from previous save? on: 2009 December 27, 11:33:40
I thought it was something like that. How do I do that? The current-world versions think they has a blood relation to them, or at least that's what it's telling me. How do I access the 'ghost' fathers?
46  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Family tree editing for offspring of pre-existing Sims, from previous save? on: 2009 December 27, 11:23:56
I'm having an issue neither Awesomemod's options nor Twallan's Supercomputer seem to be helping me address. I was playing a female I made in Sunset Valley, who had three children from premade guys (two by Hank Goddard and one by Leighton Sekemoto, if that matters). That 'hood decided to go BFBVFS on me, so I exported the family and started them over in a fresh Sunset Valley. However, no matter what I do, the fathers refuse to add the children to their family tree. I've tried removing the father-child relationships and re-adding them, but they won't remove. Each of the children shows the father in their version of the family tree, but the respective fathers don't have this reciprocally, since the children were sired by previous iterations of themselves, I suppose.

Does anyone know of a way I can fix this?... I've tried Awesomemod's Geneology options, and Twallan's Supercomputer as I mentioned. I didn't see any EAxis options to correct this, though I might be wrong. Each father is correctly showing the other children they've had, each child is showing all their siblings, and all children with fathers from this Sunset Valley save are showing correctly.
47  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Yup, I broke it - families, CAS won't load on: 2009 December 14, 11:04:53
Crikey! 8GB?!
Yeah, mate, at this point- even if that doesn't turn out to be the problem- it'd be WELL worth going through that and purging out the stuff you don't need. It'll really cut down on your loading time if nothing else.

EDIT: ... I just realised how hard I revealed my nationality right there. XD;
ANYWAY- if you haven't done it already, categorising your CC really ought to help. Sort clothes, objects, etc. and flush the things you can do without. There has to be a fair bit you don't even use if you've reached that mammoth folder bulk.
48  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: Awesomod discussion/questions/helpful tips thread on: 2009 December 13, 09:41:54
Have you tried getting the relationship up really high?

Yeah, it's up as high as it can go, they're still in the eternal 'Friend Zone'. Does it sound like it's something silly I've done at some point?... Nobody else seems to have this issue, so I'm thinking I've done something borky somewhere.

Nevermind, I got him to cooperate eventually. I still don't know what it was, though.
49  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: Awesomod discussion/questions/helpful tips thread on: 2009 December 13, 05:08:00
Feel free to turkey-slap me for my lack of knowings, but-
Where can I find a description/comparison of the AwesomeStory differences, and the differences between EAxian and Awesome jealousy code? I certainly assume that Awesome is Better as usual, but I'd love to be able to contrast the two.

Somewhat related:
I have this one Sim that just will not respond to any romantic advances I place on him, nor will my Sim respond to his, but he has a whole bunch of romantic interests. Controlling him myself and having him initiate the romantic advances get him rejected by MY sim too.
Similarly, a romantic interest of my Sim has recently gotten married to someone else, and he rejects all romantic interactions now. I assume this is supposed to happen (though he's a Schmoozer, with Commitment Issues and is Flirty?). Only way I can get him to respond at all is by controlling him myself and having him initiate the actions.

Is there a certain pattern of interactions these need to get to respond favorably? I of course have Awesomemod, and I've tried several configurations of Story, Jealousy modes, etc, but all with the same results.
50  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / A few customisation questions on: 2009 December 09, 09:23:40
I don't like getting Eaxis's sad excuses for lots and NPCs forced on my neighbourhoods, so I'm one of those freaks that customise just about everything. So, here are my questions. I'd go at it blunt-force, but that hasn't exactly gone well for me in the past.

1. Can you change the name of the hobby lots? They have failure names, simply put. But I'm not sure just changing them on the lot themselves would suffice since they're referenced in memories- therefore, can that text memory string be altered? Safely?
2. Is there an approved awesome method to modify the Hobby lots, terrain, names, neighbourhood, etc?
3. Not quite 'Oops, I broke it!' because I'm not sure I did break it yet- In my test hood, a guy brought the Repo Man home from work. I nixed all relationship he had to the guy and it hasn't happened since- but why might this have happened? Is it a VBT? How do I fix that?
