I haven't seen that image in months and now it's in every thread...making up for lost time, Pes?

I want to set the burgler on fire.
Yes.  That irritated me to no end.
53  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Children witches/warlocks on: 2008 October 19, 14:19:07
Well, feel free to suggest some, including their Dog-Latin Names, the corresponding stupid poem, and what they should actually do.

What would you make as a spell?  Anything would be pretty useless, gamewise....I mean, I guess you could incorporate some of the voodoo stuff into the spells, but other than that, it's pretty much all covered...although I guess you could add things like "max a skillpoint" or "give a promotion" and the inverses...but..there's really not that much to do.
54  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: how does vampire/zombie aging work? on: 2008 October 17, 13:48:13
Couldn't you just get the individual aging off hack? Or was borked by AL?

Found it last night..it seems to work fine.
55  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: how does vampire/zombie aging work? on: 2008 October 17, 03:04:03
You have to hack the aging controller. It's a right pain in the neck and I recommend you avoid it.

For some reason this doesn't surprise me.

Guess I'll see if I can find something to approximate it.
56  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / how does vampire/zombie aging work? on: 2008 October 16, 16:48:03
Or rather, would it be possible to copy that into werewolf and witch?  I don't want my supernatural sims to age, but I don't want aging turned off for everyone...

So where do I find the function and how do I copy it into witch and werewolf stuffs?  (I'm not specifically asking "how do I copy" but rather, what do I need to make sure to  copy and what part links to what..)

I like the 50% slower because I want to avoid unwanted hobby club membership from basic survival activities. Eating should not be accompanied by rapid fan swarm.

This..this is good!  What do you call it?

Food?  It's marvelous!  I must find more of it!

58  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Enthusiasm gain mod - V1.00 (12 Oct 08) on: 2008 October 16, 15:47:04
Seeing as how I like to leave my sims on auto-hobbinate when I'm working with other sims, slower is better because it makes them appear to be doing something useful instead of sitting around waiting for me to poke them.
59  Serious Business / Spore Discussions / Re: L&P Spore (expansion) announced on: 2008 October 16, 13:22:44
I wonder what they mean with 'new planets', are they making the galaxy bigger or something? Maybe they've done that so, it will take longer to get to the 'center'... (because they don't know, how to make the game more difficult)

I'm fairly certain that "new planets" means "planets what aren't your home".
60  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: The One Shiny: Autonomy Control on: 2008 October 16, 03:11:06
"Category" is a specific technical term for object classification that is not openly visible to the player, but typically encompasses all objects that behave exactly like that: "Beds", "Counters", "TVs", "Computers", etc.

any atypicals we should know about?
61  Serious Business / Spore Discussions / Re: L&P Spore (expansion) announced on: 2008 October 16, 02:45:14
Is it really an "install" limit or is it a "computer" limit?

i.e. Is there a server somewhere that ticks off a count each time the game installs or does it just track hardware profile a la Windows or iTunes?
62  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: I broke my cat. on: 2008 October 16, 00:13:13
Are you trying to save the game with SimPE open? According to FOJ, that can cause errors like that, because the game can't save the new information because SimPE has the data locked.

I never run SimPE and the game at the same time, so unless SimPE has a hidden TSR, then no.

I think after further experimenting that choosing to save and quit or save and exit to hood is what causes this, because saving manually and then quitting seems to keep the cat around.
63  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: I broke my cat. on: 2008 October 15, 21:11:09
I cannot track this problem down at all.  It seems to work fine when I'm just testing, but as soon as I say "Ok, good, it's working" and start playing normally, it stops working.
64  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: I broke my cat. on: 2008 October 15, 00:45:36

Sounds like tightpants.  Have you tried pulling all hacks out to see if this has any affect?  Although Zazazu is also having cat related troubles, but I haven't read the post.  I doubt it's the exact same problem.

That's some seriously fucked up code if hacks that have absolutely nothing to do with pets is affecting them.

I have a theory, but I haven't been able to test it yet...but I had one lot where the cat worked fine...I think if I summon and dismiss the cat, it'll force a save, but as I said, I haven't had a chance to test it.

I was about to pull my hacks when I saw that the one lot had actually worked...so I don't know what the hell is going on.

[edit] Also, re: tightpants:

The cats worked fine back when I first installed AL and the only things I've changed since the last time they worked have been updates from the DC.  But again, every time previously that I used them, they were unsummoned (either by me or by motive failure) before I left or quit...and I only did it a couple times...but they did work.

I'll find the time to do some more testing and post the results.

[edit] Eureka!  My previous theory was wrong, but I found the solution.  I'd forgotten that I switched no reagent hacks a week or so ago.  "noreagentsdocumented" found here in the peasantry breaks the cats.  Treeag-NoStupidReagents found at MTS2 does not.

That's also why the cats started working...earlier today I switched them back out and then forgot I was going to test that because blahblahblahlifehappensblah...anyway, that's the scoop.

Annnnnnnnd, this morning it's not working again.  Also, when I loaded a new neighborhood, it loaded two magical worlds...I'm going to assume a corrupted install (there was weirdness going on when I installed anyway, but the game seemed to work, so I ignored it...) and reinstall.  I'll also load my hacks piecemeal once I get it running, just so I can purely rule out tightpants...but if the damn game is being this fickle on working or not, I don't really have a guaranteed way to test it...
65  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: I broke my cat. on: 2008 October 14, 16:09:52
OK, I know what is happening, but I don't know why or what causes it.  But the character files for the cats are not being saved, so when I try to resummon, they're linking to a nonexistent character.

I'm at a complete loss here...I have no idea what could be causing this and I don't know enough about SimPE to find out how the familiars are linked to the owners.

[edit] Here's some more error logs generated when I made Brandi Broke a witch and summoned a familiar, then immediately saved and exited to neighborhood and tried to reload the lot.

66  Serious Business / Spore Discussions / Re: L&P Spore (expansion) announced on: 2008 October 14, 15:49:57
Before, I only mildly disliked EA...but lately it seems every time I turn around, EA is doing something else to treat their customers like shit.
67  Serious Business / Spore Discussions / Re: L&P Spore (expansion) announced on: 2008 October 14, 13:50:08
But, why? It was an uphill battle convincing my 12 brother to play all the stages (but in the end he had no choice, that's needed to unlock future stages) and, I just don't get it. Why wouldn't you want to play them all? Cell and creature are my two favourite stages, including space.

As to the topic, is anyone here honestly surprised that there'll be expansions for Spore? In fact, didn't they already confirm that there would be, even before the game itself was close to release?

Knowing they'll come is one thing.  That's just a natural extension of the life of a game that's been around for a while.  Officially announcing development one month after a game releases is just greedy and insulting.  That's basically admitting that you withheld features from the release version so you could make an expansion.
68  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: I broke my cat. on: 2008 October 14, 13:13:04
Well, I'm not the best person to help you, but I'll try since no other geniuses have come along.  I would suggest playing another lot/family that has a witch and see if they have the ability to summon.  See if the problem happens with that sim too.  If it's only happening with your currently played fam, I would probably move them out and into another house.  I know it's a pain in the ass, especially if you built that home specifically for them and took ages doing it.  (One of the reasons I make a copy of each house I build in the unoccupied house bin).  Again, that's just what I would do.

Well, as I said, it happened before on a completely different install of the game.  Whatever the problem is, it's a reoccuring issue.

I guess I should also ask if they are missing any other magical abilities... are they still flying to lots, can they still cast all the spells they have learned, etc.

Nah, everything else works fine.

I have had no problems having a spectral cat coming to a community lot with a witch.   I just did it tonight in fact and it was fine so maybe it is a conflicting hack?

Yeah, but summon your cat at home, save and quit while the cat is still out and then reload the game and see if the cat is still there.  As far as conflicting hacks...the only conflicts I have are the poolhack and vacationfixes from using the nudist hack.  Those have nothing to do with anything involving cats, afaik.

Quote
Weird, I didn't know the spectral cats could ever come to com lots.  The only witch I ever summoned a spectral cat, her cat just unsummoned everytime I had her 'fly to lot'.  There was never an option, "who's comming along" I guess since she was living alone.  And the cat always unsummons when I save and exit the lot too.  But I have never had any problems re-summoning, so long as I have all the required reagents.

The spell animation fires, but the cat doesn't appear.

I didn't think anyone would care to comment on my post, so apologies for the unintended hijacking.

No worries.  Hijacked threads don't bother me in the slightest.

Quote
So when you summon a cat, save and exit, you are doing this on a home lot, correct?  And is it with only one particular family/lot or all of your families with cats are having this problem?

Home lot, only one family because I'm only playing one, but both are witches, one good, one evil...neither cat can be summoned.
70  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: I broke my cat. on: 2008 October 14, 03:08:14
If I may re-hijack my own thread:

This is a legitimate problem now.  I summoned a cat, saved and exited and when I came back, the cat was gone and cannot be re-summoned.  This is on a completely new install.
71  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: I broke my cat. on: 2008 October 11, 22:56:04
I mean I went to a community lot, the cat showed up in the "Who's going with" list and just to see what would happen, I included the cat.

I've reset the hood now, though, so...who knows.
72  Serious Business / Spore Discussions / Re: Any ideas on how to deal with the Grox? on: 2008 October 11, 05:08:49
You don't have to fight your way through.  Before you head off to Grox space, load up on mega energy and health packs.  You will need these to stay alive.  When you get to Grox space the Grox will fire on you.  Turn-off your auto turrets so you don't accidently fire back and start a war.  Also, ditch any ally ships you have so they don't fire on the Grox.  Then, hop from star system to star system until you reach the galatic core.  I tried this with one of my races and the Grox did not attack any of my colonies because I avoided starting a war.

I was at war with the Grox when I made the core run.  I just took a colony pack with me and stopped at every empty system along the way to drop a colony and heal/recharge, buy another colony and move on my way.
73  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / I broke my cat. on: 2008 October 10, 19:59:47
I tried to take the spectral cat with me to a comm lot and the game didn't like that at all.  After a crash, I reloaded and now the cat is gone completely..no memories of it or anything...and I can't resummon.

Any ideas?

[edit]Including error files that may or may not be related to the vanishing act, but they happened shortly before the crash.

[edit2] Oh, that's just fantastic.  The character file is missing.  I didn't delete it so I'm guessing some kind of save glitch....this means I have to reset the neighborhood, doesn't it?

74  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: Macro Control: Macrotastics on: 2008 October 10, 19:54:09
Are there any plans to provide support for the bookshelf/door/whateverthehellitis?  As it stands, the macros can't see route through them and don't even attempt to teleport so I have to keep manually teleporting or using the bookshelf.

And while it is a silly thing, I like the aesthetic of a hidden room for my witches and vampires and other such clandestine types.

Teleport is too a word, Google Chrome!
75  Serious Business / Spore Discussions / Re: Any ideas on how to deal with the Grox? on: 2008 October 10, 14:32:29
because you are kinda DEMOLISHING THE BOWELS OF GROX SPACE, no one will care!

Except the Grox who won't know whether to love you because you're using planet busters or hate you because you're using it on them.
