TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: So, what's the best way to sort through and cull one's downloads?
|

My downloads folder is less than one gig, and even then, I kind of need to go back and start trimming stuff. I downloaded a lot of decoration objects when I was first starting out, and now those items seem worthless. (How many bathroom clutters do I need? :P)
Perhaps I am a picky person, and also the kind that doesn't really like navigating sites unless I am looking for something specific. Right now, I am searching for decent clothes. Now THAT I actually use.

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: What do you build into your houses?
|
on: 2007 April 14, 03:01:43

If there is one thing I dislike, it is extra rooms. I wouldn't be able to stand large mansions (unless the family is huge, but rarely do play such families), because there would be a ton of empty rooms that will never get used. There's another thing I dislike: decorating rooms to find out that I never have the need to use them.
I follow a few basic rules for all my houses:
-There must be a front fence to repel unwanted wildlife, especially wolves. -I prefer large kitchens, with extra counter space. If the kitchen is too small and I can't find a way to expand it, I don't use the house. -There is always one large training room, with all skill-building items and whatever career reward objects I may desire to use. -The living room has the TV, and perhaps the computer. I only use the TV for watching the Cooking Channel, anyway. -2-3 bathrooms, with enough space for maneuvering.
And depending on the Sim family's circumstances, I add these:
-Sims that will have jobs will get either a garage (if there is enough space), a driveway, or street parking (if possible). Any cars that are not placed in garages get alarms, even though I NEVER have gotten a burglar ever since I started playing. -A nursery and a few empty rooms, for any family that I wish to breed. These rooms are large, as they will contain the important items for each life stage of that Sim until they move out or go to Uni. Babies get cribs, changing tables, and small fridges for milk. Toddlers get cribs, changing tables, tables with smart milk, toddler toilets, and all of the skill-building toys. Children get single beds, child stoves, desks and chairs for homework, whatever else I want (they usually don't get toys, as I find them useless). Teens are the same, minus child stoves. (Kinda iffy, as it has been a while since I raised some spawn.) -For the farming family, I set aside a large area of land for the greenhouse (which will contain all fruit trees and plots) and other trees that shed leaves in the fall (good source of compost). -The families with animals get a small pet room, where all the beds, toys, litterboxes, and pet-only bathtubs are placed. Food usually is in the kitchen, where I can keep an eye on it better.
Despite all that, I tend to be rather flexible. With premade houses, though, I am extremely picky.

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Graphics card?

Hm... if there is one out there, I am having trouble finding it. The only information I found that it only works PCIe-to-AGP, not the other way around.

The first one seems best, because it seems to be the same type of graphics card as the others, but has more memory (512 MB compared to 256MB).
EDIT: Looking a bit closely at the DDR types, I'd think the third one may be best, if my understanding of DDR is right.
But, a questions: Do you have both an AGP and a PCI-EXPRESS slot? Because I see both types of cards in your selection. Don't most PCs come with one or the other?

What these experiments all prove is that Maxis screwed up Environment completely. It's totally useless and should be discarded at the first available opportunity.
I agree. In fact, I completely ignore it altogether. I've pretty much "conditioned" my mind to ignore that need. My Sims get decorations based on what I like. If they don't "like" it, tough.

So, the experiment should be this:
1) *Reach full environment scale*, choosing any color-style design, using NEW objects. -I DID use new objects. In fact, it is obvious as hell that the house I showed was made just for this experiment alone. -It doesn't matter at all if "full environmental scale" is reached. The only issue that matters is that the scale goes up or down in ANY sort of amount. That is the basis of your theory, don't you remember? 2) Replace the styled objects with different color-styled objects, and test the sim's reaction when he enters the room. You already had full environment scale - *if now you lose environment points*, the sim doesn't like the chosen color-style. -I used the redesign tool, which is pretty much the same thing, since the items I used were NEW. Deleting and rebuying them will basically just do the same thing. -I moved the Sim in and out of the house. No change, Gali. Besides, wouldn't the change be instant if Sims could "see" color? Look Gali, there is NO proof of this. I am sure that if there was some sort of "color" code, it would've been found YEARS AGO. But there isn't.

To add to Nec's conclusion, here is a test I did with the Ramaswami (sp?) family. First test: Blue house, everything Maxis objects: Second test: Changed only the color of the objects using the recolor tool. No change! Third test: Changed wallpaper to a different kind of color, but the same price. No change as well! Sorry Gali. Nice try, though.

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Add Freshness Mod??
|

I understand the purpose of "freshness", and what it does very well. I just didn't understand why one would actually want to cheat on that. Hm, maybe to keep their Sim from frying by sticking to easy-to-cook foods? I wouldn't know, either. Gardening is fairly easy, yes, but it requires a bit of space and some time. I suppose some people want the game to be a bit easier for them.

Not to sound like a huge dunce here, but why exactly do you guys not seem to like Insim. or SimPe? I have always had both installed/updated but I'd like to know what pob's anyone has had. I don't think anyone has a real problem with Insim, but Inteen, but I don't know exactly what. I never used it. With SimPE, it has become a huge, lanky program, which I heard loads the game along with the rest of it. Personally, I wish there was a less resource-hog program that can be used.

Why would you want that? I really am curious. The real benefit of "freshness" is that it makes food be more filling. Food such as TV Dinners and Lunch Meat Sandwiches actually fill up a Sim.

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Poll: How do you feel about accidental deaths in the Sims 2?
|
on: 2007 March 29, 08:09:15

The only real accidental death I had was by the pregnancy glitch, and I managed to save the mom in a plea.
I am not certain that I want more accidental death, per say, but what Soylent Sim said: more nonlethal bad stuff. Not ALL the time, but once in a while, to throw my gameplay into a loop. That is why I like the chance cards: they end up negatively sometimes. However, I don't know if I trust the game's sadorandomness enough to make these Bad Things come up only once in a while. I also wouldn't mind that these Bad Things can be increased/decreased based on how the Sim lives.
Now what I want is more townies/dormies killed. It would be hilarious if one did something stupid and got killed as a result. Not ALL the time, of course, but once in a rare while, just for immature giggles.

Hm, this is where my expertise fails. My only advice is to uninstall and reinstall the game onto the new hard drive. Perhaps someone else has better advice. Like I said, I never done this before.

I don't know how well this will work, since I never tried it, but here's something you can attempt:
In the "My Documents" Properties, (right click and choose "Properties" in the My Documents folder) there should be a tab open that says "Target." Select "Move," and create or select a folder which you want to be the new My Documents.

amjoie, I think you should just apologize for that statement. While I didn't think it was meant to offend, others did, and it is best to clear up the air while you have a chance.
