126  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: YA male is alien pregnant on: 2005 October 10, 04:35:15
She could always 'abort' it using some hack. I think the InSimenator has that kind of option...

Still, weird. That is why I am a bit paranoid about letting my YAs use the telescope, in fear some buy will make them come back pregnant... even though the actual abduction happened in his teens.
127  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Black & White 2 on: 2005 October 09, 08:05:55
Wow, just wow. And I was honestly thinking of buying B&W 2. And people wonder why I perfer console games over PC games these days.
128  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: When's the last time you ran Sims 1? on: 2005 October 08, 09:42:48
I am one of those Sims "newbies" who started on Sims 2. I couldn't even play Sims 1 on my old computers even if I wanted to, because they were under-spec. One day I got Sims 1 and a few of the expansion collections, just for kicks... plus I could install them on my laptop. I figured it'd be like Sims 2, except with crappier graphics (which is to be expected, obviously). However, how wrong I was...

It took forever to load it up, especially the first time since it had to load ALL that extra crap that came with the expansions. I immediately went to make my own Sims, and I was surprised that I only had TWO options as far as appearance goes: A face and a body! That immediately turned me off from it, since what appeals to me in TS2 is Sim customization. I played it anyway, with some guy I randomly made, and it was awfully boring... and I don't know why, to tell you the truth. It just seemed dull compared to Sims 2.

At least it gives you a sense of thankfulness for Sims 2's many, many options.
129  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Preferrable Houses on: 2005 October 08, 09:27:25
A few more things...

- I tend to download houses on small or medium lots, since I find that it is enough space for me. I dislike huge houses myself, since I find myself at a loss to figure out what to put in each of the extra bedrooms. Depending on how many people are living in the house, I'd perfer 2-4 bedrooms. Usually my families are around 2-5 members each, so room isn't much of a problem... but I'd like one of the bedrooms to be some place where I place things such as canvases, pianos, career objects, all that crap. 2 bathrooms are usually enough for me.
- I like houses with unusual and creative designs. That is why I don't tend to download starter homes, since they tend to plain. I can easily make myself a plain home. The only Maxis-made house I liked was that Modern Artistic home... I forgot the name, but it came standard with TS2. That college house with the pool is also wonderful: I placed it in my regular neighborhood.
- I don't like bumpy or rugged terrain. The flatter, the better. This is mostly because the more rugged the terrain, the more slower it is for me.

I believe those are it... wasn't the site originally called "Livin it Up"?
131  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Preferrable Houses on: 2005 September 30, 04:05:40
I perfer my houses unfurnished. It isn't that I don't like to download custom content with houses (usually, I get some good stuff from it. Anything else, I delete), I just don't trust people when it comes to placing items, especially gardens. I've had major problems with tending to gardens in 90% of the houses that I downloaded. The gardener complains that they can't water them, or a bush can't be trimmed because someone put it in a place where it can't be reached. Usually, I just delete everything and redo the gardens. (A major pet peeve is when someone uses flooring for "dirt" and moves the flowers onto them using moveobjects. Um... you CAN'T SEE under the flowers anyway, so it is moot point, and what is wrong with using the dirt terrain paint?)

Speaking of moveobjects abuse... I also don't trust people's interior decorating either. They either put the object in a place where it cannot be used, or just fill space with decoration crap and make it seemed 'cramped.' I don't mind some decoration crap, but a ton of it is just too much.
132  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Holy...crap! on: 2005 September 27, 03:01:55
Here's a challenge: spend all that money on stuff (items, housing...) for that lot without giving it out via money orders. See how much stuff you can cram into there!
133  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Dr Boris just made me mess my pants. on: 2005 September 26, 23:30:23
I don't care for newspapers, so I usually bury them under the foundation (like many people do), or place them under trees in non-foundation houses using moveobjects, then put fencing around the trees so other Sims don't go and pick them up. (yes, they CAN pick them up from under trees, unfortunately) I didn't have the unsubscribe hack, because I don't hire maids: I make Sims clean their own houses for cleaning points.
134  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Hurricane Katrina on: 2005 September 21, 07:17:25
At the defense of booby-staring men, sometimes the woman kind of "deserves" it with the type of shirt she is wearing. Take the girl in Judecat's avatar, for instance. In my opinion, she is showing a lot of clevage, and I assume that is a thin top. She'd attract a lot of attention from both men AND women. However, if the woman is wearing regular clothing, like a shirt or sweater, then I think it is the man's fault.

Personally, most of the men I know don't stare at my chest. It is sort of a stereotype that I haven't really experienced. Believe me, a lot of my friends tend to be male.

I'd hate to barge into a thread, but since we're on the topic of the Matchmaker... Does he/she match only by the opposite sex, or can he/she match people of the same sex together?
136  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: A few nice features.... on: 2005 September 16, 06:01:24
A few questions:

1) Can career awards be placed into inventory? A dumb question, yes, but I am curious.

2) With CAS Sims, are their turn-ons/offs decided altomatically, or does something pop up that allows you to pick said turn-ons/offs? I assume they're chosen by what zodiac sign your Sim has.
137  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Upgrading Computer Hardware on: 2005 September 14, 07:08:58
Yeah, I know that only one type of Graphics Card can be used, and if I were to get a Radeon, I would most definately get rid of the Nvidia that I have. Hell, if I get a new Nvidia, I'd get rid of the one I currently have. I am just saying that would there be any sort of problems, just pulling out the current card and putting the Radeon in. Looking at the pictures of graphic cards, it seems that you just slide them into the back of the tower. Is it as simple as that, or is there some sort of huge complicated system that I have to overcome?
138  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Upgrading Computer Hardware on: 2005 September 14, 06:43:51
Zeljka, don't worry about it. ^^ This thread is about hardware upgrades in general, not about my outdated computer.

Here's another dumb question: If I were to, say, get a Radeon card instead of a Nvidia, can it still be installed into the computer? The reason why I ask is because I heard somewhere that it is easier to install in Nvidia if your computer already has one than it is to install a Radeon. I could be wrong.
139  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Upgrading Computer Hardware on: 2005 September 14, 04:23:09
Thank you, all of you. At least I have an idea on what I should look for. I am sure I know how to install RAM easily, but what about graphics card? What should I look for, and how do I know that the graphics card I want is compatible with my computer?
140  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Upgrading Computer Hardware on: 2005 September 14, 03:19:00
I am beginning to seriously consider upgrading my computer so that Sims 2 would run better. With the current hardware I have now, the game is a bit slow, takes a while to load, and I don't have those special cutscenes everyone talks about. I am honestly feeling like I am missing out on something. I also heard that Nightlife has raised the requirements. I am already at the bare minimum at this point. I don't want to spend about $30-40 on the EP, and then find out that I can't use it with the computer I have!

For starters, here are my computer stats, at least as far as being important to running Sims 2 is concerned:

Processor: 2.59 GHz Intel Pentium 4 CPU
RAM: 256 MB (I know I need to update this)
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce4 MMX 440 (Gateway) (I know I need to update this too)

What is the best way to upgrade my computer? I don't have a lot of money, so cheap yet effective hardware would be wonderful. I don't play any other computer games (at least, none as extensive as Sims 2 anyway).
141  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: So what's been fixed in NL on: 2005 September 14, 01:12:25
I know this isn't really productive, but I am glad to see at least one Maxoid person getting involved with the fans. Personally, I thank you for being here and answering questions. You see, I am relatively new to computer gaming. I have used video game consoles ever since I was young, though, and the thoughts of 'patches' never would've crossed my mind. However, The Sims 1 and 2 ARE different kinds of games, which openly allow fan content in them. I guess I am just a bit frustrated that any game would have these types of bugs, and wouldn't be so quick to fix them.

I have one question, though. This probably has been asked, so excuse me, but what date would we expect the Uni patch to become avaliable? And is there a patch currently in the same CD as Nightlife, or will it come a bit later?
142  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Nightlife: Censor Blur won't die!!! on: 2005 September 13, 05:42:08
Ooooh, poor Maxis! They're the innocent ones in this whole mess of patch demanding! They don't MEAN to make their games buggy! [/bullshit]

I, for one, am quite fond of the fact that the blur is gone. I am also quite fond of my males... err... added genitalia. I just don't think it'd be the same without it, so it is one of my many reasons why I am going to wait to get Nightlife.
143  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Nightlife bugs on: 2005 September 13, 05:36:58
But isn't the BBS the biggest source of Sims fans, obviously? If someone wants the bugs to be known, it would be the best choice.

Anyway, I think I won't be getting Nightlife in a while. The whole thing just sounds awfully not-tempting right now.
144  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: what to remove from downloads folder before installing nightlife? on: 2005 September 12, 07:17:28
How about mesh objects? I am curious about those, since I use a lot of mesh objects in my houses.
145  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Nightlife: Censor Blur won't die!!! on: 2005 September 12, 02:09:55
I don't think the blur hack doesn't work as a result of Thompson. I think it doesn't work because the code in it is outdated. Even if they were trying to make the curren blur hacks not work, it wouldn't take too long for someone to figure out how to remove the blur again.
146  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Hurricane Katrina on: 2005 September 08, 03:39:47
About what that squirrel said:

If you watched the news in the early days of the disaster, you would've seen that the news people were trying to help the best they could. However, they had a JOB to do, and it was rather important: to report the full extent of the disaster, to share information about it, and to inform others on how they could help and where. You can't just expect them to throw their cameras into the water and help these people willy-nilly, especially when they were helping by letting their pleas be known acrossed the country. Besides, many of those newspeople didn't have the skills or the equipment to take care many of the needs. Their lack of expertise could've screwed up things.
147  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: help on: 2005 September 08, 03:34:03
This is beside the point, but Meek_Monkey, I am having a hard time understanding your posts. I suggest you use more periods and not so many run-ons. Just a suggestion.
148  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Whizzing Kids on: 2005 September 07, 03:05:09
I think it is just an action Inge made. Without her hack, bedwetting doesn't exist in Sims 2.
149  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Whizzing Kids on: 2005 September 07, 02:04:05
That's what my dad always said (going to go tinkle, not have a tinkle).  I guess the sound is where it came from.  I could do without those sound effects, though.  If they are going to make sounds for that, why not the other?  I guess when the sim sits down, it blocks out the sound somehow...

I think the problem with that is when Sims sit on the toilet, they could be going poo, and some people don't like to hear the "plopping" noise.
150  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Visiting campus at inconvenient times on: 2005 September 07, 01:49:47
Personally, I'd rather use the time to skillbuild them then have them drag back chairs and remote control cars. Is there anyway to get them to visit campus altonomiously?
