1  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Roof slope problem with OFB special roof tools... on: 2006 May 06, 03:20:30
Hmm, so not only do the OFB roofs want their own level, they also want to be above all other roofs.  Sheesh!  Picky picky.

Thanks to the responses in this thread I was able to modify my latest tutorial on the official site.  I managed to modify the first lot, which is basically a starter home business lot with business on the first floor and studio apt style living on the 2nd.  I used a 1/4 high dummy level for the... well, I guess you'd call it a turret?  Then built another level on top of the dummy one and used the short cone roof on top.  The very edge of it just touches part of the standard hipped roof on the 2nd level, but so far the angle is staying put.  For the tutorial house I just added another level and topped it with the octagonal roof, and it also seems to be staying put, though I liked it better without the extra level.
2  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Roof slope problem with OFB special roof tools... on: 2006 May 04, 06:14:42
Are you using the cFE cheat on walls anywhere near those octagonal roofs?

On the first house I didn't use the elevation cheat, but on the 2nd one I certainly did.  Thanks to all for the input.  You know, now that I think about it I actually may have used that cheat on the first house...
3  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Roof slope problem with OFB special roof tools... on: 2006 May 03, 06:00:35
A-ha.  Makes sense, both lots that I keep experiencing this on have the OFB and regular roof touching a bit.  Wonder just how much space it takes to avoid this problem?  Build up a whole level, or maybe a shrunken (floor elevation) level would do?  Thanks for the info vaughje and Pescado, much appreciated.  Now I'll have to play around with this and see if I can make those lots work a bit better.
4  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Roof slope problem with OFB special roof tools... on: 2006 May 02, 23:56:14
 Huh
Seems like any lot that I use one of the special OFB roofs, such as cone or octagonal, makes the entire roof jump to an extreme point upon re-entering the lot.  Like it goes from 45 degrees, to 90 degree angle.  I've seen on the Sims 2 BBS that I'm not the only one with that problem, but I knew I'd need to come here if I wanted some real input on this issue.  Anyone here having this problem, and is there a way to fix this without having to stop using those cool roof options?  Thanks in advance.
5  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Tutorial: Deleting, Creating, and Generating Townies in OFB *updated* on: 2006 April 26, 01:30:53
Awesome info, Nec!  Thanks so much.  I'm also curious about your advice not to use a Maxis Downtown after a new base hood w/custom townies etc has been created.
Thanks again!
6  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Marriage "jump bug" issue on: 2006 April 01, 08:51:34
This worked very well, thank you!  I had faith that it would, and went ahead and threw the wedding party she had her Simmy heart set on, and the ceremony (and party) went just as it should.  Too bad I hadn't heard of this fix sooner, my last bugged Legacy family would have turned out much different.
7  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: OfB for Young Adults on: 2006 April 01, 02:22:49
Students can use job objects to earn money by making robots, etc while at Uni.  They can also work as barista or bartender, though I'm sure you know that, when visiting a community lot on campus.  They are also able to purchase a community lot and run a business while attending college, but you cannot own a business lot on campus.
8  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Marriage "jump bug" issue on: 2006 March 31, 17:36:41
I'm experiencing the bug where the intended couple is jumping apart in the middle of the marriage ceremony, with the arch or propose option.  Tons and tons of "got married" memories if I keep trying, but no actual want satisfaction for getting married, and no name change.

I read some info on an older post (http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php?topic=1549.0) that describes the same problem, and there was a zip file link there called marriagebugfix.zip, but I couldn't download it because of an error 404 message.  The fix seemed to work in that instance and I'm hoping to find it and see if it works for me, too.

It may be important to note that the Sim having the problem is a 10th gen legacy heir, reinstalled to a new neighborhood.  I used Clean Installer to make sure only the household Sims were installed with the lot, which included mom, dad, Leah, and baby brother.  The family tree only shows these four as well.  Also wondering if her brother, who is now in Uni, will have the same problem with his fiance.  Here's a portion of the error log, if anyone is interested in looking at it.

9  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: OFB *home* business ideas for the creatively challenged? on: 2006 March 26, 10:34:55
Or a yard sale selling all the raggedy stuff from Uni, Heh heh.

Oh yeah, that's fun.  I've got "Stinky Pete's Big Stinkin' Deals" on my SimPage right now.  He's an old fella living out of a very tacky trailer and selling moldy gross toilets, broken bathtubs, smashed dollhouses, and other useless or ugly goodies.  He got a "best of the best" award with his first visit from the shop critic.  lol
10  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Who's got some good names for Servos? on: 2006 March 26, 10:15:21
So far I've had Tinker Belle, Otto Pilot, Gizmo, and Gadget.  I figure since they each have a personality and wants and such, they should be more than just a number, right?  Can't wait to see what other names get added to this post, I definitely want some new ideas!

12  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: newest Maxis chat transcript on: 2006 March 20, 08:17:17
Another funny thing I read over there, is that someone asked in one of the chats when we would get pets, and the maxis answer is "when pigs fly."  So they think it's a hint to the next ep.

Hmm... Maybe the pig is triggered when our Sims buy/make a pet brick?  Seems to me that I first saw the (2) pigs after my Sim had made a few bricks and even started training one.  I wonder?
13  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Keeping employees happy on: 2006 March 15, 04:08:04
Townie Andrea Hogan is a manager at one of my Sims shops.  She was hired as a stocker at the wifes shop, then later came to the husbands shop as a visitor (and got a makeover from her employer hehe) and while she was there her asp score changed.  I didn't notice this until I went back to the store she works at and called her in to promote her to manager.  She had plat status when she became selectable as manager.

As far as making townies platinum, it seems to me that if you spawn the Sim Modder with the boolprop testing code that there is an "Aspiration > Level All Sims" option.  I don't know that they would stay this way, though.  Seems like their aspirations really do go up and down like playable Sims, just less often since they don't get the interactions that playables do.

15  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Real Estate Office on: 2006 March 10, 01:51:31
Can you sell it at your home business?

Yes.  You can also sell the deeds back to the community by phone or computer.  I've been playing around with this a bit and so far I have Nicole Thompson-McCarthy (former teen clerk, college graduate, & current wife of George McCarthy, another former clerk and graduate) as the owner of 5 business lots.  Most of these had little or nothing on them at purchase.  I sent her to visit each lot and had her work them until they achieved at least 1 rank (and were therefore more valuable) before going back to real estate office and setting the deed for sale.  One of her shops is the Just Flowers something-or-other place and she hired a Downtownie Slob as manager, and he's doing great since he came with nice badges in both sales and flower arrangement.  This way she can run the business remotely and collect the profit until it sells.  At least, this is my plan.  We'll see how it works.

Wow, your alien is pretty cute with the pink hair, SimSherry!

Thank you!  Cheesy

According to the Prima guide the lots that the townies buy will be returned to community status and available to purchase yet again.  Haven't tried this yet, though.

19  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Beware creating NPCs with the NPC creator on: 2006 February 18, 05:58:11
It turns out that as long as the NPC/Townie Maker is in "downtownie" creation mode, you can generate single NPCs for the base game and Uni just fine.  I had killed a handyman and was only able to create a new one in this manner.  Switching back to "normal townie" mode, I got errors again.

Thank you so much for this tip.  I was just getting set to create a custom neighborhood, and wanted to research custom NPC creation first, when I came across this post.  So glad I read this, thanks again!
20  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Stuck Zzz's - my Sims are sleepwalking?!? on: 2006 February 17, 00:17:23
My favourite episode of stuck ZZZs is from Trubble's I'm Surrounded by Idiots story:

Quote
LK contemplates his place in the universe while Johnny snores peacefully in the...the...pink, orange, and green.

After several hours, Johnny awakes with a startled expression ("Duhhhhhhhhhhhhh"). Unfortunately, his food is still asleep.

You have to click on the link to see the photo - it's hilarious Cheesy.

Too funny!  Thanks to all for responding, and thanks also for the laugh.  lol
21  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Stuck Zzz's - my Sims are sleepwalking?!? on: 2006 February 14, 22:16:31
Hi all.  I've got a reoccuring glitch in my game that shows my Sims with Zzz's floating about their heads all day.  Supposedly the NL patch 2 fixed this (stating that it was a side effect of the maxMotives cheat) but it hasn't fixed it for me.  I'm also using crammyboy's wonderful movie-tool bonsai tree thingy to turn Zzz's off, but it doesn't always do so, for some reason.

Now, I know I could simply stop using maxMotives and that *might* take care of the problem, but I've found that I love turning the Zzz's off so much, that what I'd really like is a way to globally patch my game so they never appear.  Is this possible?  Perhaps there's a mod/hack out there for this that I'm unaware of?  Thanks in advance for any input.
22  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: nasty dress glitch on: 2006 February 14, 12:21:15
I've experienced this glitch as well.  Mary Sue Pleasant was wearing the new NL dress that has the fur/jacket thing around the shoulders.  It looked fine while she was fit, but all choppy when she gained weight.
23  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: We have Rape/impregnation, Necrophilia, and STDs. whats next for the expansion? on: 2006 February 13, 15:35:54
What are furries???

Found this among many definitions when I Yahoo'd "What are furries" and think this answer fits the context best.  lol  Lips sealed

"People who like to be in animal outfits better than not. Some of them like to have sex and do other sexual like things while being costumed up."

24  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Patch problems? Well... on: 2006 February 12, 14:15:38
This was a very helpful tip, thank you!  I was certain I had not installed the NL patch, and yet when I tried to run the update I got a message saying it was already up to date.  Was able to install successfully after changing things back to original condition.  Thanks again!
25  Awesomeware / The Armory / Re: Lot Sync Timer: All BlueSoups Suck Edition on: 2006 February 11, 23:39:54
I still like the idea of making it smaller and more hour-glass like

I wonder if the Grim Reaper's hourglass would work for this?  Is that possible?  It would look pretty cool, I think.  I can't wait to give this a go, my NPC neighborhood is just getting settled and will really benefit from the Lot Sync Timer.
