Is there a single sim in Strangetown who isn't borked?  Last time I played Strangetown I spent hours in SimPE putting right as much as I could, but I'm pretty sure I missed a whole lot of stuff.  You end up with double vision after a while.....

To answer the last poster first, they have no kids at all yet!

Kyna, I do have the dialogue turned on, it just doesn't seem to be working for them, even though it works for everyone else!  Looks like Zazazu may be right and I need to resort to the old-fashioned method!  And they aren't all that old, and they keep taking the old elixir every couple of sim days.....and I've had far older sims get pregnant with ACR.  And no secondary aspirations, I haven't even installed BV yet - after three months with no decent desktop, I'm only just getting back into Seasons, and none of my sims apart from the Viejos and the Roths can afford holidays , so I shall wait awhile before I install it.

I may try uninstalling ACR as Count Four suggests, it just may be something to do with the way the neighbourhood has been set up a few sims at a time, so maybe uninstalling it will clear the glitches - it's just a nuisance to have to do that as I've set every single lot's acceptances and it means doing that all over again!

I'd definitely agree that it sounds like a hack problem.  I assume you've run the HCDU so it would seem likely to me that it's one of those non-awesome hacks which haven't yet been updated.  I'd take out everything but JM's stuff as in my game that accounts for around 50% of my hacks and I would be surprised to find the problem in that folder unless I'd been careless and not updated something, or removed something that needs to be removed.  After that, I'd put things back one modder's folder at a time, starting with the ones I trust most......
54  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: TS2 still freezing after SecuROM on: 2008 March 30, 05:26:27
If you have stuff left in your registry, that would quite likely be the problem, it never, ever, pays to delete Sims games, or uninstall them through the Control Panel.  I'd suggest you uninstall everything you can, then download the trial version of jv16 Power Tools (which will work fine with two processors) run the complete registry clean option, and then use the Registry Manager option to make sure there are no Sims entries left, after which anything else that failed to uninstall can be deleted manually.  Then, when you reinstall, it would be worth doing it in stages, and checking that first the base game and then each EP is working as it should.

I've never had this problem with the Grunts, but then, I don't have Inteen, so it may be that it's an Inteen problem.
56  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Forever loading screen on: 2008 March 30, 05:15:01
If you installed notowniechildren when you were running the base game, make sure you have removed it, as this was the cause of the exact same problem in my game.
57  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: My Ramaswamis are clones.... on: 2008 March 30, 05:12:57
Oh, they're correctly marked as spouses, that's the first thing I checked.

I know that sometimes it takes a while for a couple to conceive, but I think these two must have tried a dozen times so far, all the correct options in ACR are checked, but so far nothing doing, and they are, apart from the parrot, the only occupants of the lot, so unless the game is reading a lot of extra character files than are actually there, overpopulation of the lot isn't a problem, nor is overpopulation in the hood as other couples seem to have no problem - but then they don't actually WANT a baby!  My Romance sims are forever having to take the morning after pill till they can afford a bigger house or send the teens off to college!  However,  Spring is approaching, so maybe that will have an effect!
58  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: My Ramaswamis are clones.... on: 2008 March 30, 03:28:14
Identical DNA wouldn't stop them trying for baby.  I've created an identical male & female couple in CAS before (one was simply a clone of the other with gender changed, so they were identical not just in their hair/skin/eyes but also in their facial structure), and they were able to breed.

One thing that would stop them trying for baby is if the game saw them as family but not as spouses - check their relationship to each other in SimPE to see if their relationship is undefined or some other non-spouse relationship.

Well, yes, they are marked as family, but also as spouses, and I've had plenty of family sims who see their spouse as family and have no problems  I did think of unchecking the box, but I was worried about the DNA.

How do you KNOW they have "identical DNA"? By reading the SDNAs? SDNAs only contain information like hair, eye, skin, and facial feature dominance. Even having all of these identical between two sims does not make them clones.

Thanks, JM, I hadn't realised there was more to DNA than that, so does it just mean that the same face template was used for each of them, or something like that, and would they therefore have normal babies if I can actually get them to have any?
59  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / My Ramaswamis are clones.... on: 2008 March 30, 02:59:48
Right, Priya and Sanjay are both desperate for a baby, but despite upping the odds as high as they would go, they never have any luck.  So, since even the Trying for Baby pop-up didn't appear (Casual Romance installed, of course) I decided to check them out in SimPE, and discovered that they have identical DNA!  Various ideas came into my head as to why this should be the case, but I can only assume that Eaxis has some rather twisted idea of what's clever!

So, it seems that, unless I can alter the DNA of one of them, the game won't actually let them breed!  So, do I let them each have an affair in order to satisfy the want, or do I attempt to change the DNA?  If so, does anyone know a safe way of doing it, bearing in mind I don't want to recreate the couple since they are already in game - I just want to add a bit of interest to playing that household.

61  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Vanishing neighbourhoods?! on: 2007 November 16, 07:45:10
The shower and loo jump problem was caused by the attraction markers which came in NL, if I remember correctly, and at the time the only cure was to use SimPE to get rid of them.  Now, however, we have the FFSDebugger, which can clean up attraction markers from your sims, even on a Mac.  I'd suggest trying that and see if it helps.

62  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: They broke the bed! on: 2007 November 16, 07:40:13
Not if you have a fortune sim or two living there, they'll want to spend it as fast as they get it!  Even the largest greek house doesn't really need 200 expensive counters........
63  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Leave house intact on: 2007 November 16, 07:35:10
I actually found that with Seasons, if you moved out all family members but one, moved the family to a new lot and then invited the left-behind member over and asked them to move in, the lot remained intact, as if the last sim had never left, even down to the un-done washing up.   The price of the lot was the true value, as the sim moving out last only took the spare cash with them.  And I wasn't using the staythingsshrub, or any other hack that might have caused this.

It's the way it worked back in the base game and Uni, then they changed it.  It now appears that they've changed it back.

So, if your sim wants to marry a rich sim, make sure the sim he/she chooses has a large bank balance, as they won't be bringing the value of the house and furniture with them.

But maybe someone else should try this, and see whether they get the same outcome as I got.
64  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Haha - now I *know* EA use SimPE! on: 2007 November 16, 07:21:28
They got the swing from Teresa Fernandez, who made a set of swings for Sims 1, and yet they totally ignored the Maxis climbing frame!  Silly EAxis!  And even with all the country stuff introduced in Seasons, they still haven't managed to emulate Teresa's working rocking chairs!   And who do you think they got the penguin from?  Teresa made the penguin, I think, but it was based on the SimsPlus pig.

And talking of C&C and the Interesting toilet - who thought of the idea of sims reading the paper while sitting on the loo?  It certainly wasn't EAxis!  And the C&C one was far more useful.....and it was a more effective toilet, too, sims who'd used it didn't get dirty, and they didn't need to revisit the bathroom for a lot longer!

65  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Is there a way to see the file name of the custom content your sim is wearing on: 2007 November 16, 07:06:21
Sounds like a good idea, but don't you have to make notes of who's wearing what first?  Or do you put a clothing item into your game with the specific intention of giving it to a particular sim?
66  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Teenstyle borked accessories or what? on: 2007 November 08, 23:16:33
Teenstyle Stuff?  Another EAxis balls-up?

Have you tried uninstalling Teenstyle Stuff and BV, then reinstalling with BV after Teenstyle Stuff?
67  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: They broke the bed! on: 2007 November 08, 23:13:43
Based on what magicmoon and others have said, I'd suggest removing all bed-related hacks, all custom beds and beddings from your game, and then returning to this lot to see whether the problem still exists.  (By not entering other lots, you should, I think, not affect the CC on them at this time, as long as you don't actually save your game before exiting.)  If everything is fine, then put things back in a few at a time until you isolate the problem, which you should either update if possible or remove from your game.  After that, play the lot once more, just to check, and then try another lot, and hopefully it should now be working fine and your CC unaffected unless the permanently removed object was originally on the lot.
68  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Seasons installation problem on: 2007 November 08, 23:05:27
Did you already install Seasons successfully before you decided to uninstall/reinstall?  If not, and that is why you are doing a complete reinstall now, I'd suggest that the disc you bought is faulty and should therefore be covered by consumer legislation and the store you bought it from required to refund you money or replace it.  (I am assuming you bought the disc from a reputable retail outlet, and not on E-Bay.....)
69  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: How can i prevent visitors ringing at the back door? on: 2007 November 04, 21:08:51
Inge has a homework-placement mat that you put on a desk or table and assign to a specific sim, which causes the sim to always place its homework on that exact spot.

!! Are you sure?  That's not what I designed it to do.  It's just meant to have a menu to generate some work for the kid to do to get their grades up.  I had no idea it was also making them put their homework down there.

Ack! No, I'm not sure. I haven't used it yet, and that's what I thought it did. Thanks for clearing this up.

How embarrassing.

I think this may be the cause of the confusion:

Quote
RESERVABLE DESK
ReservableCheapDesk.zip  (no globals)

Only the assigned owner can put anything on this desk.

To make it really worthwhile, also download this homework patch   (replacement global), which means when a child has a reserved desk, they will always try to put their homework on it.  I have included as little code as possible in the homework patch, in order to minimise the chance of it conflicting with homework hacks that do other things - but let me know if you seem to be getting problems.

NB The homework patch may clash with homework placement hacks by other creators.

71  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Changing Townie Clothing -- wardrobe is empty! on: 2007 November 04, 01:27:51
Thanks, Joe!  Now, all I have to do is find the cash to get my PC fixed........At present, I can't even use the teleporter/silent fire alarm unless the Base Game version is still available!  That's all this old thing will play.
72  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: No NPC Spawner options in Pie Menu on: 2007 November 03, 23:24:17
The teleporter is easiest, it just removes the sim from the lot and unlike using moveobjects on, if the sim has started routing towards something like a chair, it doesn't then make that chair unusable.  Using the ban option on the VC works too, and you then have the choice if you want to unban them - the option to unban just appears in the pie menu of the Controller, or if you are using an earlier version then you get the option by clicking on the sim.

You aren't really deleting them, even if you use moveobjects, you are simply deleting them from that lot, and yes, they are in the game now (as long as you save your lot properly before exiting) and will appear randomly on any lot you load. (If for some reason you didn't save - power cut, etc., they would still be in the lot bin, you wouldn't have lost them, but you would have to start over with turning them into townies.)

That used to work, but it broke with OFB. Don't think it's been unbroken with any of the later EPs. The problem is what Pescado said above about the townie's family-ID - the game looks in the townie's wardrobe instead of in the family you're playing's wardrobe.

That's a shame, I really thought it would work since the clothing tool usually has all the stuff in the game available to your sim and once you've made the townie selectable they are, to all intents and purposes, a playable sim until you make them unselectable again.

I must admit that I use the non-Awesome for this purpose alone - Danny's DMA Woohoo set comes with a red control panel that can be used to buy townies clothes for $1 and change them. Not sure if it works past-Seasons, though.

I only have the Workers Set (mainly for the teleporter) so I'll have to look into that one.  As to whether it works past Seasons I have no way of knowing, my copy is still in the same state it was in when it arrived on release day!
74  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: No NPC Spawner options in Pie Menu on: 2007 November 03, 19:49:02
If I take those out, which I thought of doing will it super-populate with pets too? Cause I really don't want 50 strays or some such. Also, since I have a clean template, will the game actually generate more townies/downtownies if I take them out and load? (Cause then I'll just stick em back in so they will never reload for any reason unless the game has to have em)

As Gwill says, if you have nostrayrespawn, that should stop the repopulation with pets.

A clean template is just that, a template, and sims then get added to the template in your game folders, which is then no longer clean, but just has in it the sims that you want to be there.  The template in your program folders will remain unchanged, so if you ever want to remove the present PV and start again, you would then get a new PV exactly as you had before you started to play.

The game should generate some new townies - if you want slightly more acceptable faces than the defaults, you could put a set of face replacements in first - and if you go into Downtown, it would also generate some downtownies.  To generate some dormies, you would need to load up Uni after having taken out the nodormieregeneration hack.

You just need to enter a lot, (I think, though maybe it will happen in just Neighbourhood View) then wait, and a townie will probably do a walkby as the game generates them.  If you have the Visitor Controller or Inge's teleporter plus, you can either ban them with the VC or just clear them off with the teleporter, and the game will then generate another, which will then walkby.  and so on......

When you think you have enough townies etc., then you just replace the hacks to stop any more from being formed.
75  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: No NPC Spawner options in Pie Menu on: 2007 November 03, 18:01:54
Try taking out notownieregenetation and antiredundancy temporarily and see if that helps.

Alternatively, make some sims in CAS, move them onto a lot (if you want them to be unrelated, make each sim as a separate family.)  Have the Inge's teleporter plus to hand, and just click on Make Me a Townie.  Once you exit the lot, the sims you made will all move into the townie pool, and no need to be without either of Pescado's extremely essential hacks!   If you want teenagers or children, then you will need to make them related to at least one of your adults, but what the heck, Maxis townies, downtownies etc. have instances of odd relationships.....
