Surely that's not ALL it says?

Look at the opportunity (in the opportunity tab).  Is it one of those ones where you have to return to the science lab to complete it?
53  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: I like ghosts on: 2009 June 18, 17:22:33
I did have a playable ghost for a short time, but that didn't do much for me.  I just like the NPC ghosts who come out at night.  It's kind of what I'd wished for with TS2 -- an extended family, interacting with one another instead of scaring the pee out of each other.  Of course, there are always the cowards.  One of my ghosts is a coward, and every time she looks in the mirror, she faints.  Too funny!
54  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / I like ghosts on: 2009 June 18, 10:48:03
I wasn't sure at first what to think of these new-fangled ghosts, but I've decided I like them.  At the Goth house, there's one clean one who will go around and pick up after parties.  And Cornelia's dad, Simon Crumplebottom, is family oriented and will pick up the babies at night when their social is low and will play with the toddlers.  Once he even took a tired toddler all the way upstairs to put him in the crib!  Also, now that Bella is dead it's really cool that Cassandra can still talk to her, announce her current pregnancy and get hugs from mom.  It's such a nice extended family feeling!  Of course, I'm just F-ly like that.

It's just my habit not to use the scroll wheel, doubtless from having a mouse with no scroll wheel for so many years.
56  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: IMPORTANT DESIGN POLL on: 2009 June 17, 18:10:45
I have a scrolly-wheel on my mouse, but I do not use it.  I'm not even sure what functions it would fulfill.  Whatever they are, I don't use keyboard substitutes.  I use edge scrolling and point-click with the mouse.  Does this help?
57  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / Facts & Strategery / Re: Story Mode: A Random @Toading: Congratulations to Draklixa! on: 2009 June 16, 17:43:33
Are you going to fix it?  Just curious, because if you did it would, naturally, be awesomesauce.
Depends on what you mean by "Fix it". I have already added options to awesomeconfig to tweak many of the story options. More to come soon, perhaps. Suggest what you want to hate.

Hmm.  Okay, let me look over the various points again.  I think you've done some editing since I read it early this a.m., and I'm more awake now, too.

...

1. The most glaring thing, to me, is if you would make ThrowHouseParty actually work, or trigger more often or something.  I've played two versions of Sunset Valley to the 4th generation now -- one without Awesomemod and one with -- and have not been invited to a single house party.  This would have been particularly nice for my guitarists, since one of their challenges is to play at a certain number of parties.

2.  I like Gus Smedstad's assessment/suggestions.  It would be nice if AddSim could be tweaked somehow so that a) the YA+ who is moved into the household is one with whom someone in the household has a romantic relationship, and b) those in romantic relationships would spawn together more often.  I know you put the option in Awesomemod to kill parthenogenesis, which means that the addition of a baby to an existing household would require two parents, but it does not happen frequently enough.  My town always starts dying and I end up enabling parthenogenesis again for short periods just to increase the younger population.  I realize that children are not necessary to a stable population model, but I do think that for some of us this was an attractive possible feature of the game.  I know I can make new households to replace ones that go extinct.   However, I'm one of those folks that don't actually like making my own Sims.  I'd like the game to do it for me and to keep track of that sort of thing for me.

3.  It would be nice if GetJob would trigger more often, or if jobs were just automatically assigned when YA-hood is reached.  I hate that most of my town seems to be unemployed.

I think you're already addressed with Awesomemod the other things that annoy me, and whatever is left doesn't annoy me.

Gunther Goth lasted unti age 126 for me.  He wasn't athletic at all.  I'm not sure why he lasted so long, but I missed him so much once he did kick that I had to bring him back.
60  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: AWESOMEMOD & SCRIPT HACKS: CRASH ISSUES THREAD on: 2009 June 15, 18:28:51
The Mods/Packages folders are there, in the root directory... The resource file is there, it's the very one you have posted on this forum... And all it says is this:

Quote
Priority 500
DirectoryFiles  Mods/Files/... autoupdate
PackedFile Mods/Packages/*.package

So... How have I installed it wrong? Because I would love nothing more than to admit being an idiot, repent the error of my ways, and be able to run the mod in my game.

Okay, apologies up front if I'm not understanding you.  But when I use the term "root directory," it means C:\

If that's what it means for you as well, then your framework is in the wrong place.

It needs to be in C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3

This is all assuming that C is your hard/game drive designation and that you are not using a Mac, since I know the file structure for Macs is a bit different.
61  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Help! My Water Broke! on: 2009 June 15, 17:43:17
I just thought this was cute.  Mortimer Goth ran into his new sister-in-law in front of the bookstore, and while they were chatting she went into labor.  I clicked on her, and Mort had the option to take her to the hospital, so we took that option.  He drove her there and went in with her, staying even when his brother showed up, and then drove the happy new family back to the brother's house.  He even got the happy "new baby" moodlet out of it.

On a side note, I love how the game recognizes extended family relationships.
62  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Narcissa Vatos: Blank Favorites and Perpetual Obesity on: 2009 June 15, 17:23:01
I've noticed that the Sims I actually play do not gain weight like so many townies do.  I'm wondering if it's because townies eat out more, or if it's because they're unfulfilled, or maybe both.

Example: In one version of Sunset Valley, an unplayed Mortimer Goth became quite chunky.  In another version, where I played the Goth family almost exclusively, he stayed quite trim though I did not make him exercise or anything.
63  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Oddly fluctuating money, disappearing cars on: 2009 June 15, 10:08:54
... why should he?

When a Sim dies the estate is inherited by another Sim that can do whatever he pleases with it, like selling it and then blow the money so what would happen if your "resurrected" Sim come back and the money was spend and his items were sold?

You did thought about that ... right?

You did read what I was responding to, right, dickwad?  I had no expectations of the ghost bringing back anything.  Someone else suggested it. I was confirming that, in fact, the item in question (car) went to the inventory of the son (with whom he lived) and did not stay with the ghost.
64  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Oddly fluctuating money, disappearing cars on: 2009 June 15, 02:12:39
Thing is, I saw the car in the son's inventory, along with his dad's guitar, laptop computer, and a bunch of books.  Then later I actually brought the guy back, first as a playable ghost and then with ambrosia as a live Sim again, and he had nothing in his inventory when he came back.
65  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Oddly fluctuating money, disappearing cars on: 2009 June 15, 01:02:44
Bleh. I wouldn't mind if they took my bathroom ceiling light.  But a car?  That exceeds my definition of kleptomania.
I dunno about that. Cars seem an ideal target for theft. There is, however, a caveat: Sims seem unable to pass through garage doors in TS3. Garage doors are not confined to being installed in specific directions like in TS2, so you can use them to seal off entire sections of the house by using them as blast doors. Once you close the blast doors, no one gets in or out of that sector, so you can use them to create areas of no-mans-land, generally containing all the valuables you don't want anyone to touch. Like your car.

Theft and kleptomania are two different things.  Kleptomania usually involves small items, often of little value, and is a compulsive and unpremeditated behavior.  Theft, on the other hand, is to achieve some sort of material gain, and while it can be impulsive, it is not compulsive.

That aside, your info on garage doors seems to rule out Sim-style kleptomania for at least one of my households.  They have an encolsed two-car garage.  However, they already had two cars, which means dead grandpa's car should have remained in his son's backpack.  Kleptos can't steal out of backpacks, can they?  I suppose if he took the car downtown and parked it in a parking space there, someone could have stolen it.  *sigh*  I suppose I'll have to pay better attention, or quit buying cars.
66  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Oddly fluctuating money, disappearing cars on: 2009 June 14, 23:04:29
I didn't think so either, but literally just this minute my sim visted her neighbors at about midday and swiped their bathroom ceiling light. So I guess they can do it autonomously during the day. Hm, I must keep a closer eye on my maids now...

My households had maids, but I didn't think they could take stuff during the daytime.
68  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Oddly fluctuating money, disappearing cars on: 2009 June 14, 14:16:52
As the title states, I've noticed some odd monetary fluctuations that I can't account for.  For instance, in one family I noted with satisfaction that the had passed the $100,000 mark; I'd been watching because one of the family members had the lifetime want of having something like $131,000 in the bank.  Later in the same session I glanced at the money, and it was down to a figure in the $80,000s.  No one had purchased anything, so I'm not sure what happened.

In another family I was playing, they had money in the $60,000s.  Daughter married in a private ceremony and moved into husband's house.  Next time I looked at the money, it was down to in the $2,000s.  I'm using Awesomemod, so she should not have taken more than about $15,000 with her, if anything (it was a family of 4).  I looked at daughter's husband's family, and the money defenitely did not go there, as they only had about $20,000 in the bank.

Also:  after one fellow's resident father died, everything from dad's inventory went into adult son's inventory, including his very expensive car.  At some point much later, I noticed the car was no longer in inventory and was not in the garage, and no other family member had it.  Later when I played another family who had owned a car the last time I'd been there, their car was likewise missing.  If a klepto takes your stuff, do you get notified or does it just disappear?  I'm not sure if this part is a "feature" or a bug.

Anyone else with similar experiences?
69  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Technical problems with THE HORROR: downloading, installing, and running it on: 2009 June 12, 19:38:04
I finally broke down and decided to try it.  I'm not sure how well it will work since my CPU speed is only 1.8GHz (with XP, and all other requirements are met).  Anyway, I got it all installed with daemon into its own virtual drive and I'm at the point of overwriting the TSLHost.dll and TS3.exe in the \Game\Bin folder.  Problem: it says it is "read only".  I tried unchecking "read only" under general properties on the Bin and Game folders but that didn't do a damn thing.  Have I done something wrong?  Is there a way to get the files overwritable?  Any help would be appreciated greatly.

Me, I don't overwrite the exe.  I rename it and leave it there (in case I ever need it), and just copy in the new exe.  The dll, I've never messed with -- maybe that's something one only does when using daemon? -- but I can't imagine why you would need to overwrite instead of just delete/rename/move the old one and insert the new one.
70  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Technical problems with THE HORROR: downloading, installing, and running it on: 2009 June 12, 19:05:15

Here's where it got weird. Only a few items went with her, like a painting she'd done and hung on the wall, and two of the bewitched gnomes she picked up in the mausoleum, and her bicycle (which she was out riding at the time). I think that's all. Everything else stayed, including her nice little garden.

Did you look in the family inventory? (The third tab in Buy Mode).  I haven't tried it moving with furniture yet, but it was my understanding that the big stuff was to go to family inventory.
71  Awesomeware / AwesomeMod! / Re: AWESOMEMOD & SCRIPT HACKS: CRASH ISSUES THREAD on: 2009 June 12, 18:18:53
Bullshit, it won't start at all now.

This is so random.

A magic that worked for me was to delete all files that were not in folders in My Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3.  The all regenerate.  If you had edge scrolling enabled or any other custom option settings, you'll have to redo that once you get into the game.

Of course, it also worked for me to just try again without doing that.  Anyway.  Just sharing my rabbit's foot with you.
72  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Worthless whore! That's not my baby! on: 2009 June 12, 17:57:19
Something I'm considering is turning parethenogenesis off and just going around and moving random men and women together.  I noticed when I had it off before that the few couples who seemed to marry and/or reproduce were already living in the same house.

Oh dear.  Does that mean I might expect either Witch or Tigerlilley to spawn with Trepie (since they're all in the same house)?

If you've got Story Progression on, it could very well happen.  I can recount one case where there were two guys and the clone-daughter of one living in a house (from before Awesomemod).  With noparth enabled, the clone-daughter eventually married the non-parental father as soon as she was a young adult, even though he was quite elderly by that time.  He was a good friend of the active Sim, who got the option to congratulate him on his marriage.  When active Sim went over to do so a couple of days later, young wife was already pregnant.
73  TS3/TSM: The Pudding / The World Of Pudding / Re: Worthless whore! That's not my baby! on: 2009 June 12, 17:47:59
At first I suspected that it happened because I switched to "edit town" mode immediately after kicking them out, but in your case it happened even without doing this (I hope I got that right).

Correct, I did not do "edit town" after moving them to the Bachelor house.

Perhaps it's as Zazazu speculates and that the move itself reset the pregnancy controller.  Michael and his wife have the same color hair, so there's no clue there.  I like to think that Tim looks like Michael, but I could well be deluding myself.  Ah, well.  I didn't have any intentions of making that family the active family at any point, so I don't suppose it matters hugely.

I was using Awesomemod, yes, but I had parthenogenesis enabled because my town was turning into an elder resort.

When they eat their favorite food, they clap their hands and squeal.  This doesn't appear to affect overall mood, however.
