TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Reducing the Size of Your Sims 2 Installation

OR... You could play around with a "C:\Program Files\EA Games\The Sims 2 Latest EP\TSBin\Sims2.ini" file and load expansion pack files from a different location. This other location could just have the necessary files, which would improve loading time in theory. ; Sims2.ini ; Instructions - this file should be placed in the same directory as your EXE, and should be named Sims2.ini.
; *********** ; Directories ; *********** ; This section allows you to override data directories for the base game and each expansion pack. ; The data directory is the location that contains TSData. ; ep0dir=<location of base game> ; ep1dir=<location of expansion pack 1's data> ; ... ; epxdir=<location of expansion pack x's data> ; ; It is not always necessary to set a data directory if that product is installed. The registry ; will find the path. Also, if you are running the last expansion pack exe, it will automatically ; find the data for (just) itself relative to where the executable was started.
[Directories] ; Example: ; ep0dir=c:\Sims2Build ; ep1dir=c:\Sims2EP1Build
I haven't messed around with this since Freetime, but I'd imagine it works just fine for later EPs. Incidentally, using Sims2.ini you don't have to have the expansion pack installed for the game to recognize the files.

Ah I wonder if it was that sticky keys feature in windows, there's some setting to keep certain keys pressed (shift, ctrl, etc.) to make it easier for people with disabilities. I kept turning it on by accident a while back, look for it in accessibility or ease of access center (vista) in the control panel.

Wait... wasn't this broken before? View FullEither EAxis fixed it or I call tight pants! Also did anyone ever fix the UV map error on the "Full Bob Teen" hairstyle? The adult version is fine, but the teen version has a weird block of color.

These are great. I have a question, though. Is there a way to use this on individual Servos or must all Servos look alike? One of the things that drives me crazy is that if you have more than two servos--one male and one female--in a neighborhood it's impossible to tell them apart.
As of yet, it isn't possible to have servos who look different in the typical servo style. *cough-shameless-plug-cough*It's been abandoned for a little less than 2 years because no one seemed to have any interest in it.

TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Run the game without installing?

The game has to make changes in files other than just C:/Program Flies/EA Games/Etc. to run. Hence, it can't and could never run without being installed on your PC. Besides, how would you actually put those 20 CDs in at the same time?
Eh? I read it as "If I copy the files to the hard drive and add the registry entries, will it run?" The answer for that is yes, but it'd be pointless and more of a pain in the butt to do manually. Unless of course you want to just simplify your re-install process. All you really need (with a nocd crack) is the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\EA GAMES\The Sims 2 Whatever" keys.

Actually that's not entirely true, University and the standalone version of Nightlife never got a crack and the base game never got a completely working crack because build mode never worked. (but you can probably use the deluxe cracks for the base game and NL) The only games that have any of the patched game cracks are Bon Voyage, Freetime, and Apartment Life.

The coffee effect (appears inside the drawer thing, seen in Darcy's screenshot) does not show up on your version Pescado. There's a similar thing with your espresso machine (but it's the result of a missing reference to a material definition).
I haven't made this set backwards compatible with any other EPs, so it's not officially awesome according to your specifications.

Alienware, RunWithSissors, and SculptureCupid are separate files and not included in the Holiday Party Pack from 2005. argon_HPPupdate.package affects only those files that need updating from the HPP, and it's the only file which has only inits and objds.
SculptureCupid.package (the valentines cupid table sculpture) has the entire object included, since it's not already in the game files but is affected by the controller, has all the needed modifications for enabling "Pine For...". The animations are removed because they long longer exist in the package (ie. two copies of the same thing being loaded twice from different files).

It's been present since one of the base game patches. I think they changed the behavs to use a lua script sometime around Pets but I can't be certain, I've only tested with AL.
Functionally it's adding OFB shelves compatibility which is the same as what the controller does but in a more efficient way; you'll be using less cpu cycles in the background (and maybe slight improvement in stuff like set to next because there will be one less object) because the controller will no longer be loaded or needed.
ETA: I have no lua coding background but I saw references to GUIDs, so I'm guessing filename doesn't matter, they'll still get changed unless you disable the controller.

TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Nuke the "download patcher" controller!
|

Instead of actually updating any of the downloads EAxis decided to use something called the "download patcher" controller to update the object size and for sale flags on objects from the Holiday Party Pack (christmas 05), the alienware pc, cupid statue, and giant scissors. This controller runs a lua script every time it loads, so no matter what you set these flags to they would always be reverted.
This is a very stupid way of doing things, so I decided someone needed to update the objects and nuke the controller. All of the objects are using the values assigned by the script.
To install: Copy argon_nukedownloadpatcher.package into your downloads folder Copy the other files to either your downloads folder or your latest EP's Bin folder
The following objects are affected: Computer - Branded - Alienware (Havelock's didn't use the globals pie menu?? also removed animations since they're all included in FT and AL now, also adds missing CT reference) Sculpture - Cupid (removed junk, enabled dropped "Pine For..." interactions) Run With Sissors (removed duplicate animations, and re-added missing animations that got removed when EAxis updated for OFB; requires UNI) Holiday - Box - Noisemakers Holiday - Box - Poppers Holiday - Box - Sparklers Holiday - Dancing - Snowman Holiday - Fireworks Holiday - Lump O' Coal Holiday - Plant - Poinsetta Holiday - Sculpture - Gingerbread House Holiday - Sculpture - Holiday Candle Holiday - Sculpture - Nutcracker Floor Holiday - Sculpture - Nutcracker Table Holiday - Sculpture - Presents Holiday - Sculpture - Santa Statue Holiday - Sculpture - Small Holiday Tree Holiday - Sculpture - Wreath Kinara Menorah Sculpture - Cornucopia Snow Man - Base (now not affected by snow) Snow Man - Hat Snow Man - Head (now not affected by snow) Snow Man - Middle (now not affected by snow) Stuffed Animal - Teddy Bear Bunny

Argon, could you include GUID of NL Jukebox as an exception in your Tinker by Proxy GUID hack? Jukebox does not have the repair slot, but Tinker function will appear due to the fallback ID.
Done, but not done by GUID so jukebox clones will still be disabled. I can't imagine why you'd need to change the Valid EP Flags 1 on the expensive stereo, so it seemed like a good way of going about it.

In case the fallback GUID is mangled (like cloning from another custom stereo), this hack will work if you fix Fallback GUID to match the original Maxis stereo, is it correct?
Yep, it works just like the instruments by proxy. There's a .bak file generated sometime when I edit the .package files (possibly when I save?). What is it for, and why is it generated?
It's there in case you made a stupid edit and want to go back to your original file. bak = backup.

This were my first pianos, so if I understood this correctly, I changed the header Flag from 0x01 to 0x02 and changed the Tree version from 0xFFFF800E to 0xFFFF800F in the init BHAV, in addition to the usual steps (GUIDs, reset, and no op in init behav). If this is incorrect, Argon, please tell me.
Huh? Why did you change the header flag and tree version? No, what needs to be added is a "My category := Const 0x106:0x60" (raw is 3B0060430005031A0000000000000000) line to the init bhav (which it looks like its already been added to some of those. HOLY CRAP where did that JWoodsKeyBoard_22205a.package come from? It looks like they re-wrote most all the globals.
